Much of the country looks like this, but not here. Every time we get one of these polar events, it seems to come down east of the Rockies. It’s cold here, but bone dry. And we’re headed into the danger zone with lack of snow. February and March usually save us, but we’ll see this year.
Links?
Mark Carney, global political star…
Yep, it’s cold. You know what you don’t see on this map? Idaho.
Xi appears to be a political bulimic.
Hey Big Apple, how you liking your new mayor?
I put the possibility of success at somewhere around 5%.
Okay, that’s it for me. It’s a balmy 25 outside with bright, blue sky. Think I’ll work on my tan. Peace out, Glibbies. Stay safe if you’re in the storms path.

Hmmm, looks like the weather’s already killed all the other commenters. Damn shame that.
All the assholes in the south are stealing our snow.
Inorite?? According to the radar, it’s been snowing for a while here in SW OH, but I’m only just starting to see some flakes blowing around.
Making chili and cornbread to celebrate being snowed in. 😋
The snow doesn’t bother me. It’s the predicted freezing rain after the snow that worries me. Especially since the prediction after the precipitation is seven straight days below freezing into the following Monday. If power goes out pipes will freeze. We’ve already got one outside pipe that’s scheduled for replacement.
SarumanTWI, when it gets bitterly cold here, we leave a thin stream of water running from vulnerable faucets, especially the kitchen sink, which is on an outside wall. Supposedly helps keeps pipes from freezing. 🤷♀️
…and open cabinet doors at least partway to let warm(er) inside air get at the pipes.
I had the water line freeze a couple times over the years, cold like today but no snow cover. The installers opened up the wall and thawed it out. Now I keep a hair dryer close by, it’s frozen a couple times since but a 1/2 hour of heat and the water starts to gurgle. As long as we have early snow cover it doesn’t freeze.
It doesn’t freeze ’til it’s about -35 or so, didn’t freeze last night, snow cover. It only freezes at night, we used enough water in the day time to keep things running.
Asshole in the South here. We just stole your sleet.
RJ, I’ll me magnanimous and let you keep the sleet.
We were warned we should lay low as ICE would be in the area.
It got up to 34 here.
I need to have a talk with Spud about not talking about Idaho.
Dude. For many years, I told everybody that you don’t want to move here. It’s cheap because if it’s not frozen, it’s on fire. Yeah, nobody listened.
I tell them it’s next door to Ohio.
Before global warming, he could have just put her on an ice flow.
It passed south of here. They forecast 8 inches, we got half that. We are getting the cold, though, but it’s forecast for 14 above but that’s not unusual for this time o’ year. However, it looks like we won’t have a sub-zero night this season, and that is unusual.
“Forecast 8 inches and got half that.” That’s what she said.
My weather prediction yesterday was correct: minimal snow accumulation. The roads are clear, but many places are closed anyway. When one place closes, others close too in a chain reaction. I walked to a nearby Pizza Hutt and got a big NY pizza with pineapple. Yum. The sidewalks are a little slippery, but otherwise, I had no trouble getting around. The places that were open closed early, so it’s a good thing I went on my foraging expedition when I did.
Foraging.
Get any good grubs and berries?
I saw a bird and bought some beer.
Hops are plants; therefore, beer is a vegetable.
A botanist told me the term vegetable is meaningless scientifically. Every part of a plant is either a root, a shoot, or a fruit.
Happy actual bday!
+1 🍍 on pizza
👍

“Children don’t need more screen time,” he added. “They need movement, fresh air, unstructured play and permission to unplug.”
In places like NYC, that’ll get you arrested, or at least a call to Child Protective Services.
*taps Lenore Skenazy’s nose*
Since nobody’s around I’ll ask whether the sequel to Judge of Jinwick should follow the same forced format to better fit serialization.
On one had, it works better for this site. On the other, it’s more difficult to write, and less fun.
I would vote for getting it right than getting it on schedule.
Agreed.
I should clarify: In my head, getting it “right” means ‘getting the story you want.’
Write the story you want to write, and then put together a second version that is serialized.
Cut it at 1200 words for serialization.
Even if it’s in the middle of a sentence.
This.
I kept my fiction submissions to about 1,000 words because that’s what I saw others doing.
Still cloudy, getting cooler, glad Im not inOKC or worse Manistee, yikes!
But Manistee isnt the UP. You miss out on the pasties!
There’s a couple stands at the West Side Market that sell them as hand pies. The Irish place calls them Scottish pasties though.
I genuinely thought this was a strip joint joke.
Pro tip: In the UP of MI, the proper pronunciation is “PASS-tees.”
It’s definitely below freezing in Michigan.

Some rich foolish kid at the private university in town was fool enough to buy my skis for the snow/ice we were anticipating this weekend.
Of all the things I have listed on FB marketplace my skis selling (I am in Texas) let alone selling first was not something I was predicting
Reminds me of the Goodwill ad like “like that winter coat that moved with you to Phoenix”
Yea the movers gave me a strange look when they unloaded those
The discussions in Cairo with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu focused on moving forward with a phased plan intended to ease the long, bitter conflict.
The cease-fire will only last as long as it takes Hamas to re-arm and train new recruits.
I would also demand filling in all the tunnels that I hear they’re still expanding/repairing.
Because yeah I do not believe that Hamas has any interest in peace.
Guaranteed
There’s ways to have fun in this weather. The video is worth watching.
Wont load for me, looks like fun though
That’s a lot of fun. 10 grandkids = winning Life. Fun project he started the same time they started coming around. Reminds me of Dad’s work at the Evansville Courier and Bluefield Telegraph before, where I was born. His crazy Asperger’s talent is he could just find stuff like that, things people *did.* That’s not nuts, but he did five columns a week like that for 40 years.
Strange, strange man. At least once a day, for several several years now, starts his ‘Mom’s a champion farter’ bit every time she *does* let one loose. She chastises him every time for it. She means it. He either doesn’t care or remember. (Both, to an extent.) Just happened, actually!
NYT inhabits a different universe from the rest of us Exhibit MCMLXIX…
25 people killed in Chitown so far in January, 23 by gun. All are black or brown. Not a word about the violence there but let one white woman/one white man
get killed FA and the whole country erupts. Somehow our priorities are inconsistent.
Oops, forgot this

Ten head shots.
80% effectiveness.
Nice job.
Coloured lives don’t matter. Unless a narrative can be spun from it.
This comment and thread are a fabulous encapsulation of what this place really is.
Bravo, all y’all. Special bonus to 4×20 with the germane thought.
The tiny heroes a weary world needs. Good doggies! Take down Hitler!!
Hi everyone! I just tossed an article submission in the hopper.
Some of the videos I see on x right now really scare me. And the reason is more for the children who are posting these things that could potentially wreck their entire lives, and they’re doing it for all the world to see.
Very sad
Protest stuff?
Lets take our guns and go kill ICE kinda stuff, very stupid, no masks at all
They will get jobs in the next administration.
Digging ditches?
To line people like up next too.
Do they really believe that Trump/ICE are Nazis? How do they think they would have been treated if they pulled this shit of interfering with business at Prinz Albrecht Strasse or in Lubyanka Square?
It is astonishing how many people have not learned that lesson.
When FB nukes your account it’s not visible to anyone anymore, I have no doubt they keep every keystroke you typed for posterity within the company and for the right politicos.
Does X leave banned accounts up?
There is some very hardcore shit being posted on x right now, and I just don’t think these people have a clue as to what they’re doing cause, if Trump was what they said their asses would be rounded up and they’d be disappeared for good.
Think about what Bidens gang did to the J6ers, these kids are stupid. If Trump were close to what they think he is then they better hide now cause they are fucked. Traitors get hanged.
You know, we tried to pound this into our kids as they were growing up. We stressed that it’s a PRIVILEGE to be anonymous, to not have their lives strung out on social media, but they never got it. The dopamine hit was too much to resist, I guess. XY posts like it’s never going to come back on him and bite him in the ass. My husband has told him constantly to cut that shit out because you never know who’s going to dig you up in twenty years, but when you’re twenty, twenty years is a long time.
I almost NEVER put their pictures or names on the internet. I also asked my husband to quit doing it (tbf, it was only on FB and not nearly as frequently as everyone else).
When they were growing up, I was reading mommy and DIY blogs where those bloggers’ kids and details were constantly on display, if not the stars of the show. I’ve always thought that was as egregious as taking out credit in your child’s name and leaving them with shit credit when they turned 18.
I’m with Moj.
I’m self employed and now do t have social media so it dosent matter. M
I have told my friends and family not to post pictures of my kids. When I had social media I only ever made one friend accessible post and then removed it less than a week later with a picture.
My dad is addicted to the approval he gets through FB and has shared the last 20 years of his wife’s grandkids lives. Mutual acquaintances think that they are my kids and that I live with him because he never mentions or shares pictures of his actual grand children.
It can be a major ego stroke but the fallout is going to be massive for a lot of people.
When I de-socialmedia’ed some years ago I vaguely recall them (Facebook?) offering an option to remove mentions of me in pics I appeared in. I have never visited that site since I removed my account so I have no idea if it works or what of me is actually out there.
I try to keep my on-line presence as low as possible. A few sites I post on, a few I lurk at, that’s it. No social media whatsoever (although there are times it would have been useful), no purchases on-line if I can help it. The Iphone is used mainly as a hotspot or for photographing plants while on botanical surveys for documentation.
Thank God social media wasn’t a thing when I was that age. It would’ve been a disaster.
I would have been fine. I wasn’t social then, not terribly social now.
Rhy, I would say you are one of the more sociable Glibs. I’ve met a few and you actually seem to be a nice guy.
Aw shucks.
Here, sure.
In real life lol not so much.
Turned a $4.98 Sam’s Club rotisserie chicken into 2 quarts of soup.
Grind!
Tall Cans!
And Buffalo trace,
Grocery store rotisserie chicken is a marvelous protein for a lot of things.
Shredded makes a nice topping treat for my 5 dags,
/spoiled brats
Our dog gets excited for rotisserie chicken leftovers too.
Made an awesome buffalo chicken dip with it once. I should do that again.
Sam’s Club’s rotisserie chicken salad makes me long for office carry-ins to justify buying it. 😋
Read the comments, my mom was this person,

I learned the other day that the oldest boat ever found (a canoe) was 10,000 years old.

Today I learned the oldest spears ever found are at least 200,000 years old.

The oldest tool, the Kanjera stone, is basically a knife.
***
These implements, known to experts as Oldowan—named after the Olduvai Gorge, an archaeologically rich site nearby in Tanzania—were shaped by our human ancestors into an impressive variety of wedges and hammers between 2.6 million and 1.6 million years ago, at the very start of the Stone Age.
***
It was made long before anatomically modern humans.
And some pre-human was pissed off because the invention of the stone knife was going to eliminate his job.

On the other hand, piling on is so much fun!
Yes, its pretty interesting on X today, cheers!
Good grief that is tasteless. I have to approve.
Things are getting pretti nasti in Minneapolis.
When I was a kid in Mpls 75 years ago the biggest complaint I ever heard was their newspaper got wet before I delivered it.
Oh my wife will
Get a kick out of that!
Yikes, a bit mean for my taste.
She’s savage.
For those who are chilly. Kilauea is putting on a good show.

Obviously the result of global warming.
Nah, it was Trump.
Ive shared that with many people.
The south view is better.
Interesting conundrum with the cold: The latch broke on our front door. The thingy ya push down on with your thumb to open, not a knob. So the door’s closed by the lock, but there’s no way to get in from the outside without help. Well, go ’round back to the garage is another option, I s’pose.
I trust this won’t get interesting for Peabody’s soon walk.
Well, his shit was more together, but still loose. Still snowing, but maybe 1.5″ so far, and remarkably sparkly, dazzling. I slipped and fell, but caught myself, which I’m sure I’ll feel later. After pickup, I slipped again AS I was tying the knot, BUT! I did not fall!
I wasn’t dumb enough to do a little, celebratory West End pirouette, but I felt some applause or a (good) buzzer woulda been nice, but the s̵t̵r̵e̵e̵t̵s̵ condo grounds were vacant. Well. From me to me: *SWISH!*
Holy shit.
Video evidence of what it is like to slide through life while being a complete moron with absolutely nothing to say but everyone kisses your ass because you’re a billionaire.
This is the the future of Marxist revolution? I am not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Nitpick: The article quotes a tweet saying the video is from 2026. It’s from 2024. Note the monitor in the background. Here’s another excerpt from the same panel discussion. Note the people on the panel.
The guy’s no doubt a crap public speaker. If I could sift through what he’s trying to say I might even come to an agreement with him on some points. My favorite is that he says ‘checks and balances’ are a custom in the U.S., not something that’s written down anywhere. He has a PhD in History from UC Berkeley.
“It’s just a custom, not written down” combined with the history PhD is just mind boggling.
“Before that, we’d only known him as the heir to the Soros political empire (Daddy is worth about $7.2 billion), which is dedicated entirely to left-wing causes.”
$7.2 billion is a lot of money for anyone to have, but that doesn’t seem like much in comparison to a bunch of other Daddy Warbuckses kicking around, particularly considering the amount of (alleged) mayhem that the Soros empire kicks up. I assume Soros Inc. is partnering with other rich, like-minded bomb throwers to make it all happen.
I had the same reaction & a suspicion that he’s worth a lot more than that.
If the year is suspect, maybe the dollars are suspect too. 🤨
I hate to say this. Huma? Prob would.
To be fair Id only need 15-30 minutes of her time.
To be fair, I probably would her husband.
I’m a sucker for the artfully-constructed five-o’clock shadow.
Uh. Huma’s a solid, solid wood. Last I looked Tres, she’s more in my alley than yours. In possibly more than one way. Yummers.
Not too slim for you, TC?
Author says he stutters.
Uh um
Not a stutter, the same terrible way the O speaks and people are that up.
Ate?
No digestion of “Y-you didn’t build that” here.
QUIET, YOU!
Have you not heard the good news of the Light Worker?
https://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/morford/article/Is-Obama-an-enlightened-being-Spiritual-wise-2544395.php
***
Here’s where it gets gooey. Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.
***
And what have you got, huh? Some moldy old constitution with a lot of jibber jabber about rights, checks, and balances, whatever the hell those are.
LOL those days were something else, eh.
The tingle up the leg. The children’s choruses singing His praises.
It turned out an empty suit could be filled with endless amounts of stinking horseshit – who knew.
Thanks for the reminder, D.
Let’s say Pretti had the gun and pointed /aimed at LEO before being shot himself. I’d love to hear the shit squelch out of the collective Left as they attempt to gather their “messaging” on how Pretti was within his rights and why the 2nd really is so important and why arms are necessary to fight against tyrannical governments like Trump’s. Or recast him as a deranged right winger. Both! But then.. oh. Can’t be both.
Oh, the silliness is so silly. (And deadly and remarkably dangerous for the country.) This martyr won’t be sanctified if he really did take aim, but if he was just carrying? Huh. That’s a pickle. (Huh. This ep of Rick & Morty just finished. Rick turned himself into a pickle. Yuh huh. My thoughts on Pretti remain.)
If he has any investment authority over that fortune it will be gone in less than a decade.
I’m old.
I’m drinking and hate-watching the weather. Mostly just to know how much snow I need to move in the morning, before I move more snow in the afternoon.
