Monday Morning Links

We’re finally to Super Bowl week. Plus the Winter Olympics start on Friday. Get your fun in while it lasts, because the dog days of winter are almost upon us. And that’s all I’ve got.

That didn’t take long. Way to go, Mexican government. You’re really tackling the big problems you have.

This sucks. I want more of it shut down, not less. And for good.

How do companies “divert $500m from workers?” Oh, I see that they didn’t take anything from anybody. So the pols lied, as usual.

It was all bullshit. Every bit of it mandated by idiots who had nothing to do with their manufacture or sales, no less. And I assume normies will be on the hook for bailing them out pretty soon.

The word “protesters” is doing a lot of work here. It’s basically a siege and the local and state coops are doing nothing to quell it. In fact, they’re helping facilitate it.

Finally, some good news. Round them all up and chuck them in the ocean.

What a shame. I guess the mob will get their way. Also, if you haven’t seen any of this guy’s stuff, you’re missing out. He’s quite funny.

This guy needs to fuck all the way off. First off, nobody should be compelled to perform medical procedures against their will, especially if they’re not medically necessary. Second, it’s grotesque to chemically castrate and/or genitally mutilate children incapable of consenting.

Operation Vacusuck 2 is nowhere near as funny as the original. Mel Brooks ought to sue.

Well this is retarded. So the fact that it’s happening in California should come as no surprise.

It’s always time to play these guys. Any day, any time. So here you go. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Monday, dear friends.

You’re really tackling the big problems you have.

    Ban stupidity.

    • WTF

      “You can’t fix stupid.”
      – Ron White

    • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

It wasn’t stupidity. More like ‘you wanna live or dontcha?’ Obviously the cartels ordered the ban on vapes.

  2. rhywun

The mayor appeared at a press conference alongside activists demanding a $35-an-hour minimum wage for delivery workers — nearly double what many first responders earn.

Sure, why not? The handful of workers left will give you their votes next time, Z.

    • sloopyinca

I find it hard to believe “many” NYC first responders are only making $18/hour.

      • rhywun

Yeah, that’s barely above the already grossly inflated “minimum wage” there.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

You see, first responder in this context are the people who show up to blow air horns at cops, block intersections, and so on.

Obviously, they need a raise to keep up with inflation.

      • Ted S.

Could NYS’ standard income tax exemption keep up with inflation, too, please?

      • SDF-7

My assumption is that it is “double what the minimum wage for first responders is which is then fed as the base wage for the union labor rates (and gains major multiples from that)”.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

        SDF gets it.

    • WTF

$73K a year to be a delivery driver? Sure, why not, and let’s just make the wage for burger flippers $55/hour. Then there will be no more need for EBT, SNAP, Welfare, etc. etc. Right?
      Right?

    • Pope Jimbo

I’m not going to sugar coat this, I don’t think the voters are learning the correct lesson

New Yorkers were quick to blast the added charge on social media Monday.

“Instacart charging/offsetting on the consumer a regulatory fee because laws were passed that YOU have to increase YOUR contractors pay is so lowbrow,” one X user wrote. “As if the service fees you charge both patrons & merchants weren’t enough.”

Another fuming customer hit with a “new junk fee” even called on Mayor Zohran Mamdani to “go get them” in a separate X post.

Maybe they just need one more regulation? Then everything would be correct.

      • kinnath

Too many stupid people are missing out on the consequences of their stupidity.

      • slumbrew

“We voted to increase your expenses, why are you charging us more?!”

      • Grumbletarian

When Instacart leaves NYC because it’s too expensive to operate there, it will be a bitter pill for consumers to swallow.

      • rhywun

I thought the extra charges were going to be paid by the fatcat kkkorporate wreckers.

  3. Grumbletarian

A video posted to Instagram showed a little girl crying as she attempted to recover after federal agents deployed tear gas.

‘It burns,’ the young girl appears to say.

If you take your children to antagonize the Gestapo, are you guilty of child endangerment?

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

But if you bring your child to a disturbance and they get fucked up you and your cause get sympathy and the outrage junkies get to be appropriately outraged. It’s the weaponization of Munchausen’s by Proxy and the parents should be horsewhipped.

    • SDF-7

Given that we’ve seen lefties parade their children as symbols of their virtue signalling, I can’t see how we should be surprised that they’re willing to sacrifice them to score some martyrdom points here.

      • DrOtto

If I were the child of one of these idiot parents, I’d prefer martyrdom to transing, but for some of these poor kids, it probably means both.

    • Tonio

If you take your children to antagonize the Gestapo, are you guilty of child endangerment?

Absolutely. But the optics of arresting them for that are very, very bad. “Feds Arrest Parents for Anti-ICE Protesting.” Just as they spun Don Lemon to “Feds Arrest Journalist for Covering Anti-ICE Protest.”

    • Threedoor

Am I the only one sad it wasn’t sarin?

  4. Stinky Wizzleteats

I guess if you bring your kid to a riot you can do any damn thing you want. The parents are either using them as human shields or they’re dangerously naive.

    • Ownbestenemy

Why settle for or when you can have and? Have it all.

    • rhywun

To be fair, both sides use kids as props.

But wingnut crowds protesting, say, abortion, aren’t generally there to break shit the way commie agitators are.

  5. rhywun

It’s basically a siege and the local and state coops are doing nothing to quell it. In fact, they’re helping facilitate it.

They’re literally just following orders. The mayors and governors of these places should be doing jail time but won’t.

    • sloopyinca

I’d think the Feds could subpoena the communications from officials to the local and state police or internal police communications issuing stand/down orders based on their public statements alone.

RICO all of them. Somebody will give the rest up to save their own ass.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, these nonresponses on the part of the local govts and the “protests” themselves are mostly top down affairs. Certainly the feds realize this. Bring up some local/state officials and some of the financiers on charges and all of this would be toned down pretty quick.

      • R C Dean

Yet that never happens. It’s almost like “both sides” are perfectly happy for this nonsense to continue indefinitely.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Exactly, both sides benefit. It’s the only explanation that makes any sense.

      • Drake

        ^This^

RICO charges against Police Chiefs, Mayors, and Governors and the problem ends.

Also federal charges against landlords and employers hiring & housing illegal immigrants would solve problems much faster than trying to pick them up off the street.

      • EvilSheldon

Yet that never happens. It’s almost like “both sides” are perfectly happy for this nonsense to continue indefinitely.

Government workers aren’t going to hold other government workers accountable for anything, no matter how bad.

      • dbleagle

ES is correct. “Professional courtesy” for the win.

    • SDF-7

Yeah — I keep thinking of the DAs in these places. Not a whole lot of point in making arrests if they get released from court and then millions in settlement for being uncomfortable (CHAZ/CHOP had some of those, didn’t they?), so why put your career on the line as a beat cop?

  6. rhywun

Second, it’s grotesque to chemically castrate and/or genitally mutilate children incapable of consenting.

Won’t somebody please think of all the luxury liberals and their trophy trans kids??

  7. ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Heh. My brother and I, along with our mother as it was her family member, were at the memorial of a president? of the Sierra Club, and my brother, roundly drunk, was extolling the virtues of desert motorcycle racing to everyone in earshot. To say the listeners were not cool with this is an overstatement.

    • sloopyinca

Does your brother have a newsletter to which I could subscribe?

Oh I’m going to Hell for that one….

  10. R C Dean

“The word “protesters” is doing a lot of work here.”

The 5 year old’s parents should be explaining to CPS just the what the fuck they thought they were doing taking a little girl to a riot where tear gas and rubber bullets could be expected.

    • Ownbestenemy

CPS will grill you if you let little Timmy walk to the store but this is Democracy!

      • rhywun

Yeah, I wouldn’t count on any help from CPS in this situation – not when there is wrongthought afoot.

      • Common Tater

It isn’t. Many of the MAHA people think nicotine is actually good for you. PG disables viruses.

      • rhywun

    • sloopyinca

      Why do you not?

      • Common Tater

        They’re harmless and eat bugs.

      • sloopyinca

Harmless? They’re invasive. They’re disease vectors, they kill native wildlife, and they fuck up landscaping.

They’re the geese of the lizard world.

      • R.J.

They are like rabbits without predators.

Not buying it. Iguanas could have easily got to Florida on their own.

From the dedthred: Dr. Who was always a fantasy show with some sci-fi wallpaper hung up. You got a wizard with a magic wand, and arcane rules of magik (sound waves don’t affect wood? AYFKM?). There was one of the NuWhos that embraced that “this is actually a fantasy show” and honestly I rather liked that one. Maybe just ’cause the companion was hot.

    • SDF-7

What’s a little funny to me is that (assuming you’re talking about the Matt Smith era, which would be my assumption given Moffat wanted it to be fairy-tale-esque…) one of the things RTD did right in his first run was building the mystery and grandeur of the Last Great Time War by not elaborating on it — but having allusions to it that sounded like the Time Lords were literally fighting with manifestations of metaphor… almost Elder Gods levels of madness weaponized.

Then Moffat had to have his “Oh no, the Doctor didn’t really kill all the other Time Lords to stop the Daleks” special…. so we got to see the Time War — and it was the laziest, crappiest “two guys with lame guns getting shot at by Daleks” type crap you can imagine. Took all the fantasy of leaving it to your imagination and made it look “real”… but “real lame”.

      • rhywun

Yeah, after Moffat and Chibnall ran the show into the ground with ridiculous writing the Davies era started to look pretty good to me. I remember that era more fondly than anything that came later.

I’m seriously and honestly at the “It has to get worse before it can get better” stage when it comes to California (and NYC now for that matter). They’re going to have to keep pushing until things collapse (like say… driving the last few refineries out of the state and ending up with shipping their fuel from India in the name of “environment efficiency”…. but don’t worry, they’ll drive down gas demand by taxing the shit out of all the normie drivers and get the electric owners as a bonus. )

“Bernie Sanders was a follower of the ‘Father of Free Love’ in his youth and built himself a device so he could achieve ‘cosmos-shattering orgasms’, according to a new book on the senator.

He was heavily influenced by the controversial sex therapist Wilhelm Reich who believed that liberation could be achieved via enhanced climaxes.

During his 20s and while at college, Sanders became a devotee of Reich, an Austrian psychoanalyst, who believed that a universal energy called ‘orgone’ powered everything. Reich constructed a shed-like device called an ‘Orgone Accumulator’ which supposedly collected energy to be later released in the form of explosive orgasms.

According to the upcoming book ‘Bernie for Burlington’, Sanders saw Reich’s teaching as the ‘answer’ to his own hardscrabble childhood.

Such was his devotion to Reich that he even built his own orgone orgasm device, a 5ft-long prayer mat made of copper wire with spikes on it that he slept on to channel the ‘energy’ into his body, author Dan Chiasson claims.”

Even more so than Donald Trump in many ways, Carlson has remade the party into a fascist project.”

      That sounds perfectly reasonable.

      • Suthenboy

Have any of the people throwing the word ‘fascist’ around so liberally bothered to define it?

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

Season 1 of Fallout is on youtube. I know this because I watched all 8 episodes last night. I guess that’s what happens when there’s no football or racing on.

It’s not bad. And it filled in some holes regarding season 2. BUT… egregious geographical impossibilities drive me bonkers. One minute you’re on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and ten seconds later you’re on a mountain in Colorado and then presto! you’re in the Mojave desert. All while you’re travelling on foot. Good set design, though. Credit for that.

“Bloom, the California-based lawyer who has specialised in representing victims of sexual misconduct cases for 40 years, is acting for 11 of Epstein’s victims. In December, she launched new proceedings against the FBI on behalf of eight of her clients, which argue that the organisation failed to investigate credible reports of Epstein’s sexual misconduct involving minors going back as far as 1996. Had the FBI acted with due diligence, the complaint argues, hundreds more women could have been protected from abuse…

After speaking with Bloom, I’m confident that if I ever need to sue the FBI for negligence, I would consider appointing her firm to act for me. It would be an expensive choice; the firm would take anywhere between 33% and 45% of any settlement payment….

Allred is representing another 27 survivors of Epstein’s abuse….

There is an uncomfortable dissonance between Bloom’s pro-victim, campaigning rhetoric and the details of the advice she emailed to Weinstein as he attempted to silence his accusers, which was later leaked to the New York Times. Bloom reportedly offered to draw on her extensive experience representing victims of sexual misconduct and weaponise it to discredit Weinstein’s accusers, particularly the actor Rose McGowan. “I feel equipped to help you against the Roses of the world because I have represented so many of them,” she wrote. “They start out as impressive, bold women, but the more one presses for evidence, the weaknesses and lies are revealed.” She also offered to help get negative articles about Weinstein buried online to clean up his Google search results, and to organise an interview to promote Weinstein’s “evolving” attitudes to women.”

Aren’t these people who are threatening to have trials in the future for all their enemies the same people who are also telling us that the Covid bullshit was just a misunderstanding and we should all move on?

Personally, I’d much rather have Truth & Reconciliation Trials for vax mandate cheerleaders than to have show trials for ICE agents.

    Victimless crime

Attorneys for alleged victims of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — citing an “unfolding emergency” — are urging two federal judges in New York to order the immediate takedown of the Justice Department’s Epstein files website.

The lawyers are contending widespread failures by the DOJ to redact names and identifying information of Epstein’s victims, according to a copy of a letter obtained Sunday by ABC News.

“For the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, every hour matters. The harm is ongoing and irreversible,” attorneys Brittany Henderson and Brad Edwards wrote in the letter addressed to U.S. District Judges Richard Berman and Paul Engelmayer.

    ——-

The lawyers — who represent more than 200 alleged Epstein victims — say that over the last 48 hours they have reported “thousands of redaction failures on behalf of nearly 100 individual survivors whose lives have been turned upside down by the DOJ’s latest release,” according to the letter.

What an absurdist minstrel show. How will they know where to send the checks if the “victims” are all anonymous?

    Waste fraud and abuse

In March, the administration attempted to fire more than half of OCR’s civil rights attorneys and staff. At the time, Education Secretary Linda McMahon said the cuts reflected the department’s commitment to “efficiency” and “accountability.”

But, when that reduction-in-force (RIF) was blocked by the courts and the Education Department was forced to retain and continue paying these staff, the department prohibited them from returning to work.

For nearly nine months, from March 21 to mid-December, “there were 247 people on administrative leave from OCR who were being paid while not being allowed to work,” says Jackie Nowicki, lead investigator of K-12 issues at GAO, “and that decision came with a cost.”

A cost of between $28.5 million and $38 million, according to GAO.

ProPublica reported the agents, both Latino, are Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa, 43, and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez, 35. Both were assigned to Operation Metro Surge, a large-scale immigration enforcement effort launched in December that deployed armed agents across Minneapolis. Ochoa joined CBP in 2018, while Gutierrez joined in 2014 and serves on a special response team handling high-risk operations. Records indicate both are from South Texas.”

The oppressed speak truth to power

Multiple members of the Kennedy family are criticizing President Trump for announcing that the Kennedy Center will close in July for a two-year renovation.

Jack Schlossberg, a grandson of former President Kennedy, wrote Sunday evening on the social platform X that “Trump can take the Kennedy Center for himself. He can change the name, shut the doors, and demolish the building. He can try to kill JFK.”

“But JFK is kept alive by us now rising up to remove Donald Trump, bring him to justice, and restore the freedoms generations fought for,” added Schlossberg, a Democrat running for Congress in New York.

    It’s basically a siege

    No it not.

and the local and state coops are doing nothing to quell it. In fact, they’re helping facilitate it.

Quell it like using live ammo? No. Quell, like policing lawful, if distasteful, activity in a free country when actual criminal and civil violations (like jaywalking and blocking traffic)? That’s already being done. PPB has been there all along. OSP troopers have been there along with PPB for at least a month or two.
