Saturday Morning Glibs Gulch Economic Links

by | Apr 18, 2026 | Daily Links, Food & Drink, Penises | 154 comments

Our Gulchers held a meeting this week of the “downtown” business owners to discuss a variety of issues, mostly about “what can the village/town/county/state do for us?” a fair and useful question. For once, I was not the only one in the room who thought, “Hey, how about getting off our backs?” People who are normally lunatics about economics were griping about the need for less regulation. The fun thing was the visuals: our downtown merchants are… eclectic, in a “what was edgy 6 years ago in NYC?” sort of mode. Looking up and down the long table, I couldn’t help but think of the bar-room scene in Star Wars.

I’m also thinking that two more of these meetings and I can ask the big question: “What benefit do you get from being in this incorporated village? Is it worth asking if the village should be dissolved?” I know the answer that most people here would give and it’s cray-cray. Wait, Prime often gently pushes me to be more kind in my language, so not “cray-cray,” but rather, “…seeming at its surface to have their decisions based on emotional aspects rather than coldly rational ones.”

Speaking of emotional, today is the birthday of a guy for rent; an actually interesting lawyer; a guy who we could judge; one of many strong arguments for term limits; a guy who was almost a parody of Ivy League political “scientists”; yet another actor who thinks his political opinions matter; a Canadian dude with undersized kids; and some dude with a big head.

Links will make any big head smaller.

Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour.

“Hey, guys, what’s Phase 2?”

“It didn’t work out with Trump, but maybe it will with President AOC.”

I disagree with much of this, but it’s fundamentally correct that the Swamp is everlasting.

what was edgy 6 years ago in NYC?

lol That is exactly what growing up in Rochester was like.

  2. Drake

Weird times. Trump says crazy stuff, which might just be market manipulation. Then we have to wait for Iran to tell us if he’s bullshitting.

    • UnCivilServant

It’s simple if you think about it – there is no unitary authority that is “Iran” anymore. That got blown up. There are multiple factions each peddling what flavor of lies they think will serve their own interests the most.

      • Drake

Which one is sending him 10 oil tankers?

      • UnCivilServant

        Bullshit artist bullshits.

        More at 11.

      • DEG

        Bullshit artist bullshits.

Trump? The Iranians? Embrace the power of “and”?

      • invisible finger

There never was a unitary authority in Iran. Unless you were foolish enough to believe what was peddled on CiaNN, MiSixNBC, etc.

The factions are the same, only the narrative has changed.

    • R C Dean

I don’t know that I would take a random Iranian regime survivor’s word as the benchmark for what’s really going on.

I kinda like the theory that Trump posts this stuff to get them to turn on each other.

      • Drake

The President is alive and the Speaker of the Parliament met with Vance.

      • UnCivilServant

Neither the president of Iran, nor its legislature ever held any power. They were figureheads.

    • juris imprudent

You’d have to be nuts to expect the truth to come out of a contest between two liars.

      • Drake

Yes. I’d love to know what’s really going on. Is peace breaking out? Are we starting WWIII?

      • UnCivilServant

        No, and No.

        It’s an analog setting.

Fighting will continue until the IRGC is annihilated, because they know they will lose any peace, and have no reason to stop killing.

On the other end, there’s no reason for additional powers to join the IRGC side, so the maximum escalation is limited to Persia.

      • DEG

JI and Drake, I detect insufficient levels of plantrustmaxxing. Report for reeducation.

      • juris imprudent

Silly old Man, there is no such thing as unincorporated land in New York. The metastization is complete.

    • Ted S.

Yeah, it’ll become part of the surrounding town.

I don’t know the legal difference between what towns do and what villages do in New York.

      • rhywun

I think the main difference is the cops would be townies going forward. Maybe some infrastructure would be the responsibility of the town.

    • Gender Traitor

I had heard that about Massachusetts years ago, but it’s certainly a bigger “accomplishment” in NY, given the comparatively vast expanse.

I don’t suppose one could convince the local leaders that unincorporation would be edgy? Somehow invoke “corporate greed”?

      • rhywun

Villages dissolve fairly often here. Especially with large-scale depopulation going on upstate. There are one or two former villages in my county.

    • Gender Traitor

Philz coffee shop featuring a Progress Pride flag above the counter in Emeryville, California.

    “Progress Pride”…? OK then.

Holy shit that tranny flag is ridiculous – I had not seen what they are actually doing at that shop. That is like Dear Leader levels of creepy obeisance. Guess we know who holds all the power there.

    • Common Tater

The flag in the picture is the “Progress Pride” flag. If I remember, that added trans (even though a regular rainbow flag was LGBT) and black and brown because BLM, around 2019? Now there is an “Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag” which is even worse.

      • EvilSheldon

        ‘Progressive Pride’.

      • rhywun

Is that the one with a circle in the triangle on the left?

I wonder if any of these narcissists asked any actual intersex people if they wanted to be lumped in with trannies and all the other letters of the alphabet due to their completely unrelated condition.

      • R C Dean

I’m sure they never asked any actual intersex people anything, because they are so vanishingly rare they probably couldn’t find any. If they even bothered to look.

      • Common Tater

Yes, the “Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag” is the one with the circle.

I don’t wonder. No one asked Hispanics about Latinx, Natives about the Washington Redskins, or actual transsexuals about kids.

      • Common Tater

Around 1 in 5,000 are intersex, which is more common than transgender was before the political push.

      • Threedoor

Intersex is closer to 1:250,000 live births.

    • rhywun

Anyway that business owner fucked himself by allowing/encouraging that shit in the first place. He could have anticipated that painfully woke displays of fealty to a small slice of humanity are maybe not the best idea in the long run, but no.

      No sympathy from me.

    • Old Man With Candy

Note where Emeryville is. So of course you know who holds the power, Comrade.

  7. rhywun

I love how Yahoo! couldn’t even summon the courage to furnish the bad old name. I was left to guess that the previous name might have been Spearchuckers?

Alfred University’s Drag Club will host a Drag Show in Miller Theater starting at 8:30 p.m., the announcement said. The event is open to guests 18 and older.

Well that is not very inclusive of them. What do they have against Alfred’s trans kids??

  9. Common Tater

“I disagree with much of this, but it’s fundamentally correct that the Swamp is everlasting.”

I agreed with most of it, although the situation is way more complicated than even the length of a Tablet article can cover.

    • juris imprudent

“If they could get Iran to suspend for even a few years, that is superior to what we got,”

This new chapter is about changing that, showing off a more sexy side no one has seen, and being closer to my fans,” Elizabeth tells PEOPLE on why she decided to join the provocative social media platform.

That’s a lot of words to say, “I want attention.”

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

It is a lot of words to say “things didn’t work out like I planned.”

Some cities have found ways to express solidarity with LGBTQ+ residents that circumvent mandates targeting rainbow crosswalks.

My god, I can’t imagine the hellscape of living in a fascist city that does not constantly celebrate me everywhere I go.

      • slumbrew

Sorry, rhy, your gayness is cancelled out by your white-male-ness.

  13. R.J.

To me this village is absolutely worth keeping. I have met many friends here, and may meet many more in the future.
I’d out more of my heart and soul into it if I had the time.

    • Old Man With Candy

So pretend that the village is still standing (we’re not expelled nor are the buildings razed), but your properly taxes are now $4000 lower. Still against dissolving it?

      • UnCivilServant

I do not believe your taxes will go down, whichever group takes over will demand the same payments.

      • Pope Jimbo

        UCS:

I bet the new warlord of the joint would be the bakery. They’d take over and start collecting the taxes.

And once you pay the Danish geld …

      • Old Man With Candy

I am deeply familiar with the numbers. Our taxes in the (former) village would immensely decrease. Now the taxes on the rest of the town will increase, but it’s amortized over a larger population and land base (e.g., the Village has 92% of the land tax-exempt, this translates to about 10% tax exempt over the town).

    • Threedoor

If it ends up saving money and eliminating government employees and their fiefdom I’m always for it.

And since it’s still part of the county you’re still paying for the sheriffs department and they’ll show up to issue your divorce papers.

  14. Fourscore

Trump’s war/peace stories are getting tiresome. Wishes and bullshit make for a helluva foreign policy. Pro wrestling is more believable.

At least Gov Walz has gone undercover and became invisible. Minnesoda is nicer again.

    • DEG

      Pro wrestling is more believable.

It’s all part of the plan. He learned how to play the game in pro-wrestling and with all his real estate deals. He’s the master!

      • rhywun

This. Are they still officially commie??

      • Aloysious

“A senior leader within the flotilla — a member of the steering committee, the highest governing body of the organization — engaged in sexual relations with multiple activists while on the boat heading to Gaza. Not one person. Not two. Three different individuals,” claimed Palestinian group Heart of Falastin in a social media post earlier this week.”

Trump officials said the medical research into ibogaine is in an early phase, but the administration wants to help determine whether it’s “snake oil” or a legitimate treatment, one official said.

As a Schedule I substance, ibogaine is currently grouped by the Drug Enforcement Administration alongside heroin, ecstasy and other drugs that have “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”

It was unclear how the federal government would help facilitate further research — strategies were still being hammered out in internal discussions this week.

First they have to figure out a way for Pfizer to patent it.

The BBC investigation found migrants whose visas were due to expire were being coached to invent stories, gather fake evidence and pose as members of the LGBT community to avoid deportation.

Advisers offered “packages” including staged photographs, fabricated letters and even fake medical reports to strengthen claims….

At a meeting of an LGBT asylum support group in east London, attendees openly admitted many claims were fraudulent.

Story about UBI that includes AdP as an example (except they didn’t get UBI. Don’t ask, it doesn’t make sense to me either). Commie writer assures us that UBI will pay for itself several times over.

Except every example the writer uses does not include UBI. Really is a tour de force in nonsensical writing.

    • Pope Jimbo

      Forgot the quote:

The paper is essentially a mathematical proof that a world with universal basic income is more meritocratic than a world without one, because luck-based distribution — which is what we have now — throws away most of the talent in the room. A UBI world isn’t a world that rewards laziness. It’s a world where the Einsteins and the Khns and the Kleks and the creatives you’ve never heard of yet actually get a shot at mastery that their talent deserves, instead of getting filtered out at age 19 because they couldn’t afford rent.

      • slumbrew

        essentially a mathematical proof

Without looking, I’m going to say it is no way a mathematical proof.

Oh fuck right off with that. Deserves ain’t got nuthin’ to do with it. Especially lumping in Einstein with some artists.

        Slumsy:

It was a simulation (not a model)

As with all of this, some actual work needs to get done in order to feed everyone. Who decides who gets to sit around a coffee shop mastering their talents and who has to clean the bathrooms at the coffee shop?

It is ironic that this economic voodoo bullshit appeals most to the baristas who are working at the coffee shop because their worthless degrees didn’t prepare them for any other job. They lap this shit up because they think they will get to sit around mastering their talents while some other icky person has to make the coffee.

AP fun: “Trump’s dyslexia barbs stir anguish and anger, perpetuating a myth about the learning disability”

How about lying about having it to explain how and why he’s as dumb as his black audience? I’m sure that didn’t anger anyone. Fuck off.

“Prosecutors say makeup, wigs helped former Alabama tackle impersonate NFL players in $20M fraud” Um. Well, they won’t hurt when your marks are as this fucking dumb:

“In early 2024, a former defensive tackle at the University of Alabama put on makeup and a wig and got on a video call from a swanky suburban Atlanta hotel to finalize a $4 million loan… Federal prosecutors say Davis would go on to don disguises — a wig once, and a do-rag-style head covering another time — again in March and July to impersonate two other NFL players on video calls and bilk millions more in loans. The complaint does not say exactly how the wigs and do-rag helped Davis assume the three different players’ identities.

It also only identifies the NFL players by their initials.” HAHA! Oh, dear, my-est oh mes.

The complaint does not say exactly how the wigs and do-rag helped Davis assume the three different players’ identities.

You know there were some people on the call muttering to each other, “that’s the same guy, right?” “You can’t say that! ‘We all look alike to you, huh?!’. You’ll get crucified. “

I can’t believe Ilhan didn’t release this on April 15th and try to portray herself a victim of the IRS.

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar blamed an accounting “discrepancy” for errors in a financial disclosure that listed her net worth at up to $30 million – while doubling down that she is not a millionaire, a report said.

The lefty “Squad” lawmaker – facing fraud probe calls from President Trump – insisted the initial figures in a disclosure filed last May were completely off-base, as an amended filing now shows shared assets with her husband of up to just $95,000, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Her lawyer told the Office of Congressional Conduct that the errors resulted from reliance on accountants.

“As the busiest of people, it is very common for members and their spouses to rely on learned professionals like accountants to make calculations and determinations that appear on public filings,” the lawyer wrote in a letter.

“While the error is of course unfortunate, there is nothing untoward and nothing illegal has occurred.”

Will anyone ask her what she actually reported to the IRS?

$29M is just a rounding error.

    • Pope Jimbo

From a different story on this subject:

Aides say Omar looked at the form before it was filed in 2025, but the error didn’t jump off the page for her because she isn’t involved with her husband’s businesses and she trusted the accuracy of the accountant who provided her husband’s figures.

Typical Omar. Too trusting when it comes to her husband(s).

I make good money and know I can’t afford a lawyer.

Lawyer: No, you see she is worth $100k. Now Ohan Holdings, Inc. is worth $30 mm.

    Democracy

The EU Chief has reportedly already given Magyar a list of 27 demands he must meet before she will turn the spigot back on. She did not try to hide the agenda, announcing that the EU needed to “use the momentum now” to consolidate its power.

With Hungary out of the way, Von der Leyen is calling for the EU to finally do away with the last vestige of national sovereignty: the veto exercised by its member states.

Under the plan, member states would lose control of their policy and could be forced to adhere to the priorities and values of the EU majority.

The EU Chief celebrated the new day of global governance in the making: “Moving to qualified majority voting in foreign policy is an important way to avoid systemic blockages, as we have seen in the past.”

Things would go more smoothly if we didn’t have to pretend to care what those far right nationalist footdraggers want.

I find Washington Commanders a far more offensive term than Washington Redskins ever were. Maybe Washington Parasites.

I’m off with the whole family to see “Clue” as a play. The 1985 film is my favorite movie, after giving my ranking thorough (re)consideration. I don’t know if they’re doing it based on the film, which was not written as a play, or if it’s its own thing. Regardless, I hope it’s a fun production, whatever it is.

The 5yo + Confusion is hysterical. Remarkably verbal, that one.

    • The Last American Hero

Do you have to go see the play 2 more times at different theaters to get all the endings?

    Today just keeps getting worse.

And now that stupid fucking ice cream truck is circling around again. Everyone who owns or operates an ice cream truck and anyone who plays or sings “do your ears hang low” should be flayed alive and their skins made into banners warning against making noise.

I have somehow managed to destroy my silverware. I have somehow managed to break the leg on my chair. I have nearly been run over, crashed into, and otherwise mangled automotively, and I’m not even one of those driving a suicide machine around. My eyes hurt from the sunlight, and I can’t seem to do anything right today. Even the checkout at Lowes thought I was trying to shoplift my own wallet. I bought the right tools for the wrong job. I can’t focus, and I can’t unwind.

And I know All I’m achieving is annoying you, so I’ll wander away now.

I *enjoy* your curmudgeonliness. (Not that I want you to have such serious mishaps, of course.)
