House (1977)
This is a legendary haunted house film from Japan that gets so crazy that you start to feel like you are in an alternate reality. I first watched this film on an old TV, from a bootleg videotape at a friend’s house. It was amazing. That was probably mid-eighties. I didn’t realize then how lucky I was to see it, there were probably only a few bootlegs around at the time. The film wasn’t officially released in the states until 2009.
So what is it about? I turn to Reelreviewsandrecommendations for details:
HOUSE resembles THE EVIL DEAD, not in look or style, but in the pure level of inventiveness on display. It’s a film that’s full of imagination and energy despite the often languid pacing, and the story of a group of schoolgirls visiting a crumbling mansion in the deep countryside is only the start of it. In one of the film’s bizarre highlights, a guy is transformed into a pile of bananas. It’s that kind of film.
Trivia! Director Nobuhiko Γbayashi wanted ideas from a child’s imagination, not from adults who would only come up with variations of what had gone before, so he consulted his daughter Chigumi. She began with a nightmare she had of being attacked by her mirror reflection. Many of the remaining ways the girls are attacked by the House were her ideas as well. These include the mattresses, the head from the well. and the piano. So, essentially, this film was co-written by a 12-year-old Japanese girl, who shares screenwriting credit. – Courtesy IMDB
Well, this is as much as I can write today. Work is brutal so I will have a very brief post for tonight. I hope all of you enjoy!

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary, I appreciate all the suggestions for upcoming films, so I will do some kind of audience appreciation series again soon. It has been crazy around here, so I have not been able to make any advance schedule.
Bonus! Original Kamen Rider!
At some point when I was not looking, Kamen Rider was added to TUBI. It’s Ultraman on crazy pills, and a perfect match to tonight’s film. Here is the very first episode. Of all things, Kamen Rider was an early pick up from Amazon, who paid for a reboot on the series. And it was a cool take. If you have Amazon you can click on this link and see their sponsored version. Otherwise there is about a billion different versions on TUBI now.

” I first watched this film on an old TV, from a bootleg videotape at a friendβs house. It was amazing. That was probably mid-eighties. I didnβt realize then how lucky I was to see it, there were probably only a few bootlegs around at the time.”
You were lucky.
I knew a lot of amazing people in the eighties, and I think we all took each other for granted. No telling what would have happened if we all stayed together.
I thought it was going to be this House (1985)
https://tubitv.com/movies/475885/house
It’s got Kay Lenz and Norm from Cheers.
But not this House.
Ha! I thought that was going to be a house track.
I’m not THAT gay.
I’d love to be friends with him and Stephen Fry.
It had The Greatest American Hero, William Katt, in it too.
*woof*
He had it goin’ on a little bit back in the day.
That takes me back. I saw them live in 1985(?). Great concert but, man, Richard Butler must have been on heroin. He looked like he weighed about a hundred pounds.
They played my campus Spring Fest around 1990. Yeah, he always looked like that.
How have I not heard of that band?!
Thatβs a killer track.
You might have heard a track or two.
Here is one very well known one.
Donβt know pretty in pink.
Tell me you don’t listen to Sloopy’s music links without telling me you don’t listen to Sloopy’s mm music links.
I open the news links.
Rarely open the music links.
If I could get YouTube to play the music while I read here I would be more inclined to open them.
If you’re on a desktop they should open in a new tab.
That’s also really great.
I think I’ll watch it now…
That was a fun movie.
Norm!
Two things:
The real crazy stuff starts at 32 minutes in, if you get bored with exposition.
There are boobs.
I think that answers the main questions that may come up tonight.
Man boobs?
Is Chuck U . Schumer in this?
I’m starving and work is driving me crazy.
Carry on.
Would you like a jelly baby?
It’s true what they say – the Evil One eats babies.
You mustn’t believe all they say.
Friday had an issue recently of Kamen Rider actresses. It sold out quickly.
Tubi seems to be broken. Maybe I’ll try another time.
Oh my. Itβs working here. Dod the commies break it?
It’s working for me.
Maybe the website; I don’t use that.
The tee-vee version.
Still down. I had clicked on Search and it said “no can do”. After returning to the Home screen any further attempt to access Tubi yields an empty black screen.
Shit. Try it on a laptop?
TBH, I hate watching media on a computer. Because I’m already doing other stuff on my computer.
I usually tune in on the smart TV, but I do provide a link for those who wish it.
Anyway, I’ve seen House (1977). Although in modern times. Probably would have been mind-blowing back in the 80’s. I like different kinds of Japanese horror, but it just didn’t do it for me. Very creative, original, all that. Don’t speak Japanese, but the subtitles are retarded. Then again, they are schoolgirls. Definitely worth watching if you haven’t seen it.
$8.05 for a Motherβs Day card.
It doesnβt light up. It doesnβt play music.
Itβs just a fucking card.
π
Yep. Same.
π³ I haven’t bought a paper card in a couple decades. Maybe 3 or 4 bucks tops back then?
I became a huge fan of Sandra Boynton’s greeting cards when she started out with Recycled Paper Products back in the day. Still a big fan of hers (especially her book/music sets for kids,) but since you can’t pick up her cards at the drug store anymore, I’m kinda over greeting cards in general.
Those are cute, and cheep.
But yeah, last time I went to an email version and probably won’t go back to paper.
Stupid covid.
I was going to suggest you buy her Hallmark stock instead – but it turns out they’re privately held and not traded.
I love that my company went back to private a few years ago. So much less tedious compliance BS. Still regulated up the wazoo but any bit of relief helps.
My mom buys fancy cards for the kids and then bitches sh dosent have any money to get them giftsβ¦
“So, essentially, this film was co-written by a 12-year-old Japanese girl, who shares screenwriting credit.” Cute/ That was rather nice of him. Or the producers. Kinda wouldn’t expect that from mid-70s Japan. (Nor now, frankly, but I’m not up-to-date on any modern Asian views on women. Women certainly worked in Korea, but family dynamics? Uh huh.)
“…the story of a group of schoolgirls visiting a crumbling mansion in the deep countryside…” *looks ’em up* Yep. Would teach at.
Early results indicate Reform is dominating the UK council elections.
There is plenty of time to cheat yet.
And Labour might lose Wales for the first time in almost 30 years.
I’m surprised anyone other than Labour has won in Wales at any time in the last thousand years or so.
Is this ‘good?’ I’m guessing in the realm of possibilities, this may be ‘good.’
Yes. It shows some Brits might still have a spine.
Are council elections for MPs?
No, they’re the city, county, etc
Thanks
@ Pat
“It hasnβt changed noticeably since I moved in.”
If it isn’t moving, and it was my house, I’d just Jack it up to level and put new material in the gap.
I don’t see why you’d put a bunch of new piles in.
STEVE SMITH GIVE YOU PILES

lol Are they really selling “Rules for Radicals” there? You’d think those commies might want to keep a slightly lower profile?!
“Why let your children play outside when they could be building functional models of wind turbines, solar-powered cars, and hydroelectric power stations?”
Yeah- why let those little gov’t serfs want to be outside when the climate is killing everyone?
And Obama was trained by Alinsky- why not shill his book?
Surely not in real time. Dude died in 1972.
Just learned Hilary reportedly had her university seal her (PhD or Masters?) thesis on Alinsky while Bill was President.
That seems extra creepy. It disturbs me how long-term ‘their’ thinking was. Very Chinese. Birds. Feather. Flocking.. Somewhere left.
I don’t believe that Hilldawg has a Master’s. She did her Bachelor’s at Wellesley and her JD at Yale, which school is it that is doing the hiding?
Wellesley, yes! On Alinsky’s wiki somewhere in his Legacy section. They thought it would make Bill look bad (around ~93) and wanted to keep it hidden. Oh. Maybe it was Yale. It was something she had to write a big thesis for. *shrug* She specifically wrote it about Alinsky. (Dammit. Now I’m checking again.)
Huh. “In 1993, Clinton asked Wellesley College to seal her thesis on Alinsky for the duration of her husband’s presidency.[110]”
It’s all so middle-schooly. Speaking of, fuck I wanna know why Obama picked that design for his fucking perpetual graft machine. Surely, he had at least three designs to look at. And the quote on the damn wall. Uh. He, seemingly, must’ve had the final say. Wouldn’t ya think? And *that’s* what he went with?
Patron: “Here’s that check Mr. President. Now you sign this and my son will get to work on your splendid building, sir.”
Big O: *swiftly grabs check* “Now let me be clear. I want more of these.” *scribble*
I was being figurative. “Trained” by his book.
So is it Janus or “jah-anus” ?
An asian Beaulah Ballbricker ?
1: Did AI that first GIF? I remember I AI’d some stuff.
2: I thought this was going to be the prequal to the seminal film House II.
That’s a Kid N Play link, isn’t it?
+1 hightop fade
No, apparently I let everyone down by not playing the 1980s House.
I saw your AI of the Bleach flavored Oreos. Epic!
So one of the 8th graders chose to take the narrative prompt in a romantic direction. It was, uh, shockingly good. Just ends with that 12 second kiss, but her (must’ve been written by a girl) descriptions of his heartbeat making the veins on his forearms “more prominent” went on for a few paragraphs.
I gave it the highest score I could. It deserved it. For later use, I’m glad it’s in my collection.
(No, not that one. (No, not that other one, either.) The other one.)
Nothing. Left. To. Cut.

Ok, we can cut some other crap first. They’re so damn cute.

The sled dog show at Denali is pretty cool.
But how do they taste?
A little ruf
When I first saw House I thought of the TV show but knew that couldn’t be right. Then I thought of that god awful Julianne Moore movie Safe. Don’t ask me. I’m still haunted by how terrible it was.
Huh. Water cooled M249.

This is more like it! Start really defining the roles and participants in the coming CW Eleven.
Finally!
Also, she an idiot.
They’re not sending their best.
The Democracy states are all the ones she was elected in; so all of them.
Not going to read that but let me guess, you could light a sun with all that projection.
Saw Mike Johnson asking questions in a hearing of two abortion “advocates.” They are saying outright they no one should be “forced” to stay pregnant against their will.
He asks them directly about late term abortions. Up to 9 months. They smugly refuse to answer. The actual medical doctor there to advocate it said his questions were offensive and inviting violence against the two of them. Refuse to answer whether the aborted baby at 9 months is even alive.
These people are fucking ghouls and a perfect demonstration of how completely unaccountable and anti-intellectual modern feminism actually is.
Ghouls, Communist? Same thing
“How old are you, five?”

Happy Friday!
Is it?
Did you plan your breakfast properly?
What’s your obviously incorrect definition of “Properly”?
It sounds like your answer is “no”. π
Well, if you’re unwilling to define your parameters, the question is invalid.
Well enough not to complain about not having the right ingredients?
Good morning to all you non Hantavirus infected people.

That’s an oddly specific qualification.

I try not to spread it.
Good morning, Sean, U, Ted’S., Roat, homey, Teh Hype, and TO’G!
Sometimes I wish I could grab the end user and shake them going “That’s not how this works! That’s not how any of this works!”
TFIF!
You seem to need one of these, but oddly enough, it’s sold out. π
The Fire Is Fought?
Good to know. I’d hate for it to burn out of control.
Snark aside, my first thought was “This Friday is Fucked”.
Somehow I don’t think that was the intended message.
NPR had someone on bemoaning that Drumph has gutted and politicized the CDC so much that thhy weren’t panicmongering the Hantavirus thing sufficiently.
Yeah, I’m gonna get on a ship real soon. You get a free third-world disease with each cruise!

This one would be fun sometime. I haven’t seen it in years but I remember it was silly with a great cast.

As I predicted, Starmer is not going to resign his post.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/local-elections-2026-uk-live-updates-results-b2972615.html
He is going to bury in deeper like a tick and finish sucking the soul from Britain.
He’s not going to be the one to make the decision on when he goes overboard. At this juncture, he gains nothing by throwing in the towel.
