Watched the Clowns get swept over the weekend. On the plus side they brought out several surviving negro league players, including a dude named ‘Nub’ Armstrong, who only had one arm. He was a fielder for the original Clowns. He showed how he fielded a ball with one arm. Glove on hand, catch ball, pin ball between forearm and chest, roll arm up so you can pin glove between shoulder and chin, pull hand down, grab bowl, throw out the runner.
At his age, he just showed the basic movements, and said, “It usually worked.” with a chuckle.
I remember trying to do that as a kid after I watched a Pete Gray biopic on TV. I know it was wartime baseball but man, what an impressive feat he accomplished.
