Genre – Kaiju
Movie Total Runtime – 1 Hour 36 Minutes
Spoilers – Yes

Oh, no – there goes Tokyo.

We’re jumping all the way back to the start of the series to go through them in order. As I mentioned, this is the Japanese cut, so no Steve Martin as played by Raymond Burr. So, lets get started. This is the era of front-loaded credits, which play over the sound of roars, and an orchestral score. I can’t read Kanji, so when the subtitles stop telling me what’s scrolling past, I’m at a loss. Our first scene is a ship at sea, surprised by something atomic then sinking, its SOS reaches the mainland and someone phones Ogata. Ogata can be summed up as “Generic Japanese Dude” Not really bearing any distinguishing characteristics. Generic Japanese Dude and Generic Love Interest discuss breaking off plans because he needs to go look into the distress call. Serious Uniformed Dudes don’t know anything and inform people as much.

Another ship is destroyed and sinks in the same area. Crew families are swarming the office trying to get information they don’t have. Some survivors get pulled from the wreck and are taken to Odo Island. That place sounds familiar… The Islanders are complaining about the lack of fish as another survivor washes ashore. The old guy with an exaggerated frown declares it must be Godzilla. I don’t know if it’s related to some theatrical tradition, but that is not a natural expression.

Mainlanders arrive by helicopter dropping off Nosy Reporter. The Islanders other than old guy don’t talk to Nosy Reporter, so he gets an earful about Godzilla and how they used to sacrifice girls to her, but the ritual has been reduced to a placating dance onshore. The music is not to the taste of the King of the Monsters so that night he comes ashore to lodge his complaint. We don’t see him, just hear his footsteps and see the shaking houses.

We cut to some sort of legal proceeding where the Odo Islanders are making an insurance claim – I think. Maybe they’re suing for damages, but I don’t understand the background to figure out what kind of proceeding it’s meant to be. Witnesses declare that was no typhoon. Paleontologist Dude recommends a research team, which we next see shipping off to Odo Island. Dr. Goro is at the docks to see them off, looking very ominous. I call him that because he reminds me of a clean shaven Goro Majima in appearance, only with the eyepatch on the other side. The characters remark on how Dr Goro is normally a recluse confined to his lab. Generic Japanese Dude and Generic Love Interest reach Odo island to look over the devastation of the village. We find that there is radiation lingering on the island in isolated pockets. Paleontologist Dude is measuring a footprint he is standing in as Nosy Reporter pesters him. The footprint is a hot spot for radiation, but they find remains of a trilobite in it.

The investigation is interrupted by an alarm, and panicked villagers make for the high ground. We hear footsteps booming in the background. Godzilla himself crests the ridge and sneers down at the humans before roaring. The villagers decide the high ground is a poor choice of destination. Having made his cameo, Godzilla lumbers off back to the sea. Some poor sods are carrying swords and I can only wonder “What did they expect to do with those?” I mean, they saw the footprints people were able to stand in.

Anyway, we cut to the Bad Science scene where someone claims dinosaurs peaked only two million years ago, and that this was the Jurassic Period. Look, I’ll give you a pass on a lot of bad science but there was no reason to get that one wrong. Maybe it was a subtitle error, and they missed the hundred. Two Hundred Million years ago was the early days of the Jurassic. Paleontologist dude officially gives the Odo Islander name to Godzilla during this press conference and we get some explaination of “why now?” for the emergence of the monster. We get some scenes of consternation and news distribution, but the only plot development is a plan to antagonize Godzilla with depth charges. We know it won’t work, and Minus One was a retcon, so the JSDF doesn’t know conventional weapons are useless.

Godzilla is next spotted by a cruise ship as he rises from the water just long enough to show he’s not dead. Serious Government Men start discussing new options for killing Godzilla. Paleontologist Dude says it is impossible, since he was birthed by the H-Bomb. We also find that Generic Japanese Dude and Generic Love interest and Dr Goro are technically a love triangle, but Dr Goro doesn’t really stand a chance. She decides to break the news to him so that things are less awkward, choosing to do so on a trip to introduce Nosy Reporter. Dr Goro declines to discuss his research with the Nosy Reporter, but does tell Generic Love Interest, swearing her to secrecy first. The results of what she sees causes her to cover her eyes and scream. They don’t discuss relationship matters.

A potential domestic scene is interrupted as Godzilla makes landfall. The shore machine gun emplacements do about as much as you expect. I’m not sure Godzilla even noticed. He lumbers on, breaking through power lines and tresspassing on a railway track where a train smacks into his foot and gets his full attention. As he trashes bridges on his way back out to sea, I wonder what it’d be like to make miniatures for a Godzilla movie, putting in all that work knowing their fate is to be trashed.

Anyway, the Japanese evacuate part of the coast and begin putting up a giant electric cattle fence. In this scene I notice the first “I can’t ignore it” effects issue. The high-tension wire required to feed this fence are composited onto the main image, but the masked portion wobbles relative to the normal field of view. This is because compositing on film at this time required physically cutting out pieces of film and gluing them on to other pieces of film – frame by frame by frame. It’s painstaking, delicate work. Any errors in positioning become visible in the final product. And the wobble is the result. I do credit the effects team. The do a fantastic job with the tools they had. I just can’t ignore the wobble.

During the evacuation warning, Generic Japanese Guy announces his intent to ask Generic Love Interest’s father, Paleontologist Dude, for permission to marry Generic Love Interest. Paleontologist Dude is too fixated on the Godzilla issue to pay the matter any attention. They have a debate over the morals of killing Godzilla versus studying the monster. The result is Generic Japanese Guy being ordered out of the house before he even gets to relationship matters. The Radio announces a Godzilla sighting and the tanks roll into position behind the electric fence. The artillery on the hill opens up our set piece as the JSDF once again tries to stop landfall. The conventional forces throw everything at Godzilla as he pushes through the fence, and he responds with the first use of Atomic Breath, melting the fence then torching the neighborhood. Notably for me, the fact that even in this film his back plates glowed when using that ability was something I’d thought to be a later introduction. Nope, even as he faces down the JSDF tanks, it glowed.

Realizing that their attacks have been futile, Japanese command redirects people on the ground to rescue and firefighting efforts. This leaves Godzilla free to trash some very realistic buildings. It isn’t until they’re falling apart that anything looks like models. I know exactly how hard it is to make things look real at that scale. The rampage is the big cinematic moment, but there’s not a lot of plot synopsis to go over. The only scene of note is the reporters who narrate the events even onto the attack on the tower they were observing from. We cut to Dr Goro watching the footage of the rampage, and Godzilla’s return to the sea before cutting back to the fight as the JSDF air wing decides if the big guns of the artillery didn’t hurt him, maybe the little guns of the air force can. They have such terrible aim that more of their rockets miss the giant monster than hit. It’s not as if Godzilla was even moving fast, just going at a slow amble.

Rampage over, we watch the aftermath as the wounded are collected, tested for radiation, and the grim reality of the damage is tallied without explicit numbers. But the hospital halls are overflowing with people and individual tragedies. Amidst the suffering, Generic Love Interest tells Generic Japanese Guy about Dr Goro’s research. He’s been working on a superweapon he’s called the Oxygen Destroyer. In his lab, a small pellet device skeletonized an aquarium full of fish in almost an instant. The science behind the Oxygen Destroyer is bullshit, as is to be expected. Dr Goro is himself horrified by what his creation does – literally destroys the oxygen atoms. He says it turns them into a Liquid of some sort, but it’s unclear exactly how that works. Dr Goro is trying to figure out a way to use the device beneficially, but has not come up with an answer, vowing to detroy his work rather than weaponize it.

Generic Japanese Guy goes to Dr Goro to discuss using the Oxygen Destroyer against Godzilla. Dr Goro refuses on the grounds that others would weaponize the device against people. It’s the television that intervenes as calls for prayers for the victims and scenes of the devastation and human cost play out on the broadcast. In a previous shot, the television wasn’t even on, and I did not see anyone change that. Dr Goro turns it off and agrees to one use of the Oxygen Destroyer. He then burns his research notes to ensure the work cannot be readily replicated.

A ship packed with press heads out into the harbor following the ship carrying Dr Goro and Generic Japanese Guy. Dr Goro convinces the others that he has to dive down to deploy the Oxygen Destroyer. As the one with diving experience, Generic Japanese Guy also goes down, on the pretense of giving instruction to Dr Goro, who has no such experience. In the murky depths they find Godzilla spending a lazy afternoon in his Tokyo condo. And I realize the real reason Dr Goro has an eyepatch in the movie. With the diving helmets on, there is so little to differentiate the two men that they’d be difficult to tell apart without such an obvious indicator.

Generic Japanese Guy is hauled to the surface as Dr Goro prepares the superweapon. It is unclear what prompted the surface team to haul him up. Scrubbing bubbles engulf Godzilla and he writhes. Dr Goro cuts his own tether so he cannot be pulled out, ensuring that the Oxygen Destroyer will destroy the knowledge of its creation that is in his own head. Godzilla surfaces to roar before sinking back down and skeletonizing.

There is a moment of memorialization for Dr Goro before ‘The End’.

Title Fight Results – Japan by a Knockout.

Godzilla’s record (Win-Loss-Draw):
Japan: 0-2-0

This movie birthed a legend for good reason – succeeding as both a serious film and a kaiju flick. I don’t really have to tell you that it is a classic, you all already know that.

    I’m sort of printing.

I did all that, and I’ve got it printing off of Tool 2.

I could probably run Tool 1 as well.

I have known issues with Tools 3, 5, 6, and 8. Tool 7 has not been tested. Tool 4 is a maybe.

      • UnCivilServant

It was too much to hope that all eight Tool heads would print after I was the one to assemble the thing.

      • Threedoor

Me not knowing that 3D printers had more than one head.

      • UnCivilServant

Most 3D printers only have one.

This upgrade changes my machine to have eight.

      • Threedoor

I’ve seen enough henti to know where this is heading.

In the murky depths they find Godzilla spending a lazy afternoon in his Tokyo condo.

    It’s cheap real estate.

I’m old and forgetful, but I don’t remember reading about first contact between Godzilla and SEA SMITH.

Did they ravage mainland Japan together?

    Sink ships?

Someone besides me should ask ol’ SEA.

    • Threedoor

      Sweet sweet love making?

    • Spudalicious

Godzilla is what you get when SEA SMITH fucks a Galapagos marine iguana.

Oh, no – there goes Tokyo.

Fun story: At the age of fifteen I visited my grandparents’ house while sporting a blue mohawk and wearing a BOC t-shirt my mother bought me at their concert. The front of the shirt had Godzilla battling the Grim Reaper over the skyline of Tokyo on the front and an upside down Egyptian cross on the back.

…For a few weeks grandma was convinced that I had joined a Satanic cult. It was kinda funny.

      • Trigger Hippie

Look, I had just threatened to murder my father via a Rambo knife after I caught him cheating on my mother with a coke whore. I was a very unstable kid at the time. Cut me some slack.

      • Chafed

        Jeebus
With an incident like that I understand why.

      • Trigger Hippie

The punchline is by the age of seventeen my old man had groomed me into becoming a coke/meth/weed/pills/you name it addict so I’d be more open to slinging his shit.

        Life is funny.

        Life is funny.

        Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, monopoly

I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you

Also, I like how you started with a nod to BOC.

  6. The Late P Brooks

    Are you printing a Godzilla?

  7. Evan from Evansville

The Oxygen Destroyer? Huh. “Godzilla surfaces to roar before sinking back down and skeletonizing.” I’m not sure that’s how that works, but hey! It worked! I’d think a fun tourist attraction could be made out of its skeletal frame.

Were I to scuba, and I kinda highly doubt that’d be a good idea, I’d love to check out big sunken ships. Swim through ’em, and such.

    • R.J.

His skeletal frame was recycled into Mecha Godzilla a number of movies later.

      • Chafed

        I didn’t know that.

“On March 1, 1954, just a few months before the film was made, the Japanese fishing vessel Daigo Fukuryū Maru (“Lucky Dragon No. 5”) had been showered with radioactive fallout from the U.S. military’s 15-megaton “Castle Bravo” hydrogen bomb test at nearby Bikini Atoll. The boat’s catch was contaminated, spurring a panic in Japan about the safety of eating fish, and the crew was sickened, with one crew member eventually dying from radiation sickness.
    —
The film’s opening scene of Godzilla destroying a Japanese vessel is a direct reference to these events and had a strong impact on Japanese viewers, with the recent event still fresh in the mind of the public.”

US testing radioactively killed someone, eh? That’d be a slightly awkward WHOOPS! to send out.

  9. Gender Traitor

Scrubbing bubbles engulf Godzilla and he writhes.

Product placement for Dow Bathroom Cleaner? (The scrubbing bubbles are SO CUTE!!! 🥰️ Fun fact: IIRC, I’m pretty sure the original Dow Bathroom Cleaner spokesbubble had the same voice as Tigger in the Disney Winnie the Pooh cartoons.)

      • UnCivilServant

But I own a reusable toilet.

      • rhywun

FWIW I haven’t seen it in decades.

      • Gender Traitor

        a reusable toilet

You use it more than once??? Ewwwwww!!! 😝️

      • R.J.

So you don’t use the seashells, or the brown paper bag?

Do you have special pooping gloves?

      • Aloysious: Evil Dark Lord of Wonderful Smooches

        I googled ‘pooping gloves’.

        It was very informative.

      • UnCivilServant

        Why would you do that?

It wouldn’t take much thought to realize that was a bad idea.

        Think, Aloysious, think.

      • R.J.

There are times, perhaps after eating a cheese tray with martinis, where you need to don the pooping gloves, grab the brass pooping rail, and prepare for the poop apocalypse.

‘“The decline in this city over the last four years has been so exponential and devastating — economically, socially and on every level. And obviously, we’ve lost so much business here. People are leaving,” said Messing, an NYU alum.

Messing called the Big Apple the “city I love” but said, “It’s not the city I love anymore.”

She looked at Blakeman and said, “I believe in all my heart that you are the answer. You are the affordable campaign, candidate.”

Whatever it takes, I suppose. I can’t believe that city voted in a ‘State Grocery Stores’ socialist. (Well. I kinda can. Yeesh.)

    Guilt unquestioned, punishment merciless

Universities have an equally urgent responsibility. A sexual-assault report cannot be treated as a public-relations problem to contain quietly. Institutions need independent investigators, clear procedures, meaningful support for complainants, and processes that are fair to all parties while prioritizing campus safety. When an impartial process finds a student responsible for sexual assault, the consequences must be serious enough to protect the community and demonstrate that violence will not be tolerated. And Title IX policies and procedures should likewise be reviewed and strengthened to ensure that complaints are handled fairly, promptly, and effectively.

    Justice, baby.

    • rhywun

I watched the “angry cop” video someone posted against my better judgement – I don’t like long videos – but it was interesting and convincingly makes the case that she lied to whomever drew up the civil suit. There are many discrepancies from her original story. And Kathy pulling the county DA who did nothing wrong two years ago is pure theater.

Institutions need independent investigators, clear procedures, meaningful support for complainants, herpity derpity doo

The idea that Cornell doesn’t already have all of that and armies of bureaucrats to enforce it is laughable.

      • kinnath

        Thank was me.

I wasn’t aware that I was posting against your better judgement. I’ll be more careful next time.

The civil claims no interactions beyond those already listed in the girl’s sworn statement.

The suit merely claims that every interaction she has was coerced in contradiction to the sworn statement. That’s the lawyer doing his “job”.

      • DEG

Thanks kinnath. I finished the whole video. It was exactly as I expected. Regret sex.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

From what I have read, she broke every guardrail that the univirstiy, town, and her own sorority had set up to stop things like this happening. And, on the frats part, they say there were frat brothers checking in on her to make sure she was OK. (take that for what it is worth).

At some point, you just cannot stop someone from being a danger to themselves.

      • kinnath

        you are welcome DEG

      • J. Frank Parnell

At some point, you just cannot stop someone from being a danger to themselves.

Well, you could uninvite them from future parties, but that seems to be what triggered the police report.

      • Fourscore

I don’t recall being uninvited to a party, it’s just that I was never invited.

One person said “You’re not much fun since you quit drinking”

The last part is true but I probably wasn’t a lot of fun for other people when I was drinking.

At least now I can remember being a jerk.

    • kinnath

      this is a repeat

      but I’m not complaining

      just enjoying all over again

totally unrelated to the discussion at hand, of course

      • kinnath

Save and Share ==> Save page as . . .

      • Nephilium

That used to be a standard browser feature. You could choose if you wanted to download images as well, it started getting depreciated as more and more web sites started shifting to being web code instead of serving static text.

“Democratic Socialism – a largely anodyne political ideology in many parts of the world, but which has long been stigmatised in the private capital-driven USA – is now the subject of polls and headlines across the country.

In barely two weeks, for instance, a Gallup poll found that Socialism is more popular than ever, with 43 percent of Americans holding a positive view. But The New York Times, citing another poll, informed readers that roughly half of US voters view socialism unfavourably.

For many Democratic strategists, that means a “Socialist” label is not a problem in primary race, but broadening a Socialist candidate’s appeal in a general election could remain a challenge.”

Also thanks. It looked pretty bizarre and I was planning on seeing it. I shall avoid it.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

None of the commercials for it gave any indication of what it was about, so, from that alone, I knew it was going to be a scold.

      • R.J.

        This is wise.

    • Evan from Evansville

I was hoping it’d inadvertently make fun of their beliefs, of how they think they can change the climate ‘at will.’ That’s about all I can hear out of their bullshit.

    • Threedoor

What year was this movie made? I thought the one with Raymond Burr was the first Godzilla movie. Obviously I was wrong

    • UnCivilServant

This is the First Godzilla Movie. They Did a re-edit and filmed additional scenes with Raymond Burr to make the US release version. They are the same movie, but as I watched the Japanese cut, I included the “so no Steve Martin as played by Raymond Burr” line at the start.

      • Chafed

Got it. Thanks for clearing it up.

      • R.J.

It is awesome to see the original Japanese version after years of seeing the Americanized version.
It’s like seeing the Spanish version of Dracula for the first time. It’s watching the familiar through a different lenses.

      • Evan from Evansville

(it was a lot harder for me to find than it should’ve been, too)

      • UnCivilServant

I got this big boxed set of a bunch of early Godzilla and had to hunt for the middle eras. 5 movies required me to resort to eBay.

        Colorized sounds racist.

        “Karens, over here, over here”

      • R.J.

It’s that horrible early colorization that looks like crap in dark scenes, kinda ripples. Archive probably has a better version.
Probably was “ colored by Karens.”

    • Evan from Evansville

What in the fuck is Caillou? *searches* Ah, likely French/Canadian bullshit, but I’m pleased it later got a nasty rep cuz the main character is naughty. I wonder what they’d think of Calvin?

      • Derpetologist

Although Calvin is lazy and selfish, he’s also creative, adventurous, and funny.

It’s hard to write an entertaining story about a well-behaved kid.

Cartman is sort of like older, unfiltered Calvin with no brakes.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0mmKKVWBsw

      • Evan from Evansville

Calvin isn’t lazy, he’s just not focused on things he ‘should’ be. He’s pretty properly 6yo selfish. Cartman, as an unfiltered Calvin? Growing up in a completely different environment, especially with that fucking sister of his, IIRC, I much enjoy this comparison.

Well-behaved kid? Isn’t that all of Peanuts? Or is pulling the football ‘wicked’ or something? (I think it’s boring, what I know of it, but it sold. *shrug*)

      • Derpetologist

The shtick of Peanuts is “kids who talk like adults”. There’s humor in that until you think about your own childhood.

      • Threedoor

So the Peanuts characters are cosplaying homeschoolers.

      • Derpetologist

Peanuts kids act like homeschoolers? OK, I can see that.

The real children I remember being around in school were a mixed bag: rock stupid, vicious, naive, conniving, grotesque, and sometimes just pitiful.

    • Threedoor

I thought the allasoirus was bigger?

      • Derpetologist

        AI sez

        ***
Tyrannosaurus rex was significantly larger, heavier (up to 8,000–14,000 kg), and far stronger than Allosaurus (1,500–3,500+ kg), with a vastly superior bite force (~35,000–57,000 N), making T. rex the clear favorite in any hypothetical matchup.
        ***

Allosaurus is garbled Greek for “other lizard”. There was only one other dinosaur discovered at the time. It was called Megalosaurus (big lizard). Scientists are often not very creative with names.

I find it hard to believe that white folk in 1995 would name their son Will Smith. Kentucky. *throws hands up* Why would you do that? Maybe that was their version of naming him Sue.

I appreciate his flying out in a bit of that spot, there, though. That helps me right now. Keep it up.

I went to high school in the 80’s with a kid named Rick Schroeder and twins with the last name Thompson.

From ded thred, Drazan is a piece of shit establishment hack that steamrolled over her legislative replacement to get back into office and power after fucking up the last gubernatorial election. She bent over backwards to enable the Democrat majority to fuck over traditional gun rights and a number of other things so that mean things wouldn’t be said about her, while lying out her ass. In office, she’ll be a pushover for the continuing Democrat majorities in the legislature and will be sandbagged by the parasite bureaucracy and the quangos and other retainers making bucks off the current system.

And yet I’ll still pull the lever because the alternative is even worse. Wasn’t my choice in the primary either.

Kotex needs to sent back to PA where she belongs. She’s utterly evil, but not stupid unfortunately. She’s spent years rigging the political process and system in her favor, and the state bureaucracy since getting into office. Any potential challengers or threats seem to have convenient political scandals (since they’re are up to their necks in increasingly stupid schemes that are covered up until it’s necessary to deep six someone).

I just moved to a new state and I have no idea who’s in play next month. Perhaps I’ll just go in blind and vote against any Democrat I see.

      • Evan from Evansville

Oooh, nice ‘Vote for Fawkes’ pitch!

        (I’d vote for (symbolic) Fawkes.)

      • UnCivilServant

        The “Pro-Catholic Absolute Monarch”ist?

While demolishing Parliment might havealigned in some ways, his intended outcome was very much not the same.

      • Evan from Evansville

Well. I’m glad Mr. UCS has his ‘Ruin My Fun with Historical Accuracy’ Gloves on. They come with his reusable toilet that folds into the ether and back out again. His toilet paper for the ungloved has invisible squares! Try to guess which ones! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised 😎

I see Spartacus is up for re-election – that’s an easy vote-against. House candidates other than Dem are all parties I’ve never heard of. Two are obviously far left and the third is some sort of “entrepreneur” running on the “We the People” party – possible crypto-leftist but whoTF knows. Probably skip that position.

Nothing else is listed on the site I found. No judges or props that are typical in my previous state.

      • Evan from Evansville

(fwiw, I like those gloves. They add texture. Unlike that damn invisible TP. I want them to remooove texture.)

    • Threedoor

Typical stupid party shooting themselves in the foot.

      More reason for greater Idaho.

Remake Oregon Territory and expel the left like India’s 1947 Partition.

I find it very strange I’ll be waking up tomorrow and going to work for the first time in two months. 🧐 Like last time, it’ll be my first time in a ‘normally scheduled’ gig in quite some time, only that time didn’t work out.

Well. I’ve got my shit together. Last too-much gig, escrow processing, was $22.50/hr. This one is $19.25, and I really, really hope this gig is $3.25/hr EASIER than the last one, if that makes sense. (It had best.) Tomorrow will certainly include paperwork and I assume I’ll start onboarding, and I’m curious how that’ll go. I’d be happy if I got to see someone actually doing what I’ll be doing, and I hope that’s pretty soon in.

Another big gear shift. Still feels strange, the night before. Qs many friendly puppies will soothe me. *purrrrr* (Well. In a few innings.)

    • rhywun

FWIW I’m underpaid for my title and place and I’m sliding into the twilight of my career so honestly IDGAF how much effort I put into it anymore. I am generally praised by all of my coworkers- I do have SOME pride – but that doesn’t show up at review time.

      • Nephilium

Sounds like me at the last two jobs I had.

      • Evan from Evansville

*Curious Face widens* I’ve been walked through the building a bit, and it reminded me of the Evansville newspaper, many open cubicles in a big open space, aisles between ’em.

IIRC, my realm is much smaller, but I’m sure I’m misremembering where all the filing shelves are. We do have a lunchroom where lunch is apparently pretty good and not too expensive. They have a little convenience store-type Mart down there to buy little things. Offices are so strange. Last time when I thought I was starting, I brought my lunch and left it in the fridges down there. It included a real fork and my (also real) shaker of salt. I wonder if they all got tossed that Friday. It’d be more humorous if they were still there, frankly, and also more embarrassing, I s’pose.

      • rhywun

One of my current stretch goals is to return to the office – the suits are pushing it hard so I moved back down here to see if I could make it happen. It’s been years – I like to WFH but I’m also going kind of stir-crazy. Other than a couple weeks in 2021 I haven’t been in an office since 2018.

I have some medical issues to take care of first but if all goes well I have a ten-minute walking commute to look forward to. Although I am now officially remote so I could just stay home if I want. 🤔

Went to a wedding yesterday. The best man said “Jina is the best thing that Jude has come into.” The entire table groaned. The groom turned beet red. The father of the bride turned red.

      • Threedoor

        That IS class

      • Brochettaward

Aint nothing wrong about Firsting your bride to be.

    • Nephilium

The groom and the best man are now either mortal enemies or closer than family.

    • Evan from Evansville

How’d Jina take it? (Not sure how a shrug’d do in that circumstance. 50/50)

      • Ted S.

Lying back and thinking of England?

  24. Brochettaward

I hadn’t seen an exact number on speech related arrests in the UK, but to be clear it’s roughly 30 people a day. 60k over the last 5 years. And you can guarantee that will only increase if they have their way.

Much like blue hellholes here in the US, they’ve basically got a policy where theft isn’t responded to if it’s under a certain amount. Which is apparently $250 or so.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, U (So sorry you’re sick! 😟️,) Ted’S., and Grumble!

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

      *insert bullshit leftist cause here*

    • Grumbletarian

Closing that ‘loophole’ would have changed nothing, since she said she gave verbal consent for everything that happened, and they stopped when she wanted them to. Unless closing the loophole means that having a drink means giving consent is impossible.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

It also only applies to women apparently. The guys were zonked out of their skulls too.

      • Common Tater

“Unless closing the loophole means that having a drink means giving consent is impossible.”

        Exactly what it means.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Next time you go to a party make sure you carry a properly calibrated breathalyzer fellas, maybe keep a logbook too.

    • rhywun

      “botched 2024 rape investigation”

And we’re jumping to conclusions in the first sentence.

      /taps out

      • Sean

        Yep. Shameless.

    • Gdragon

Silver hat is the rapist. That was easy.

  25. Common Tater

Godzilla was on Spectres, not Agents of Fortune.

  26. Not Adahn

    Good morning all!

As expected, going to the “unlimited overtime” system resulted in my days off today and tomorrow being yanked ’cause my boss wants to flex. Ladyfriend arrives tonight, fortunately she knows how to drive standard so I can let her use the Subie while I’m at work.

I wonder how many chicks will hit on her.

      • Not Adahn

Rawr! She went through a lesbian phase in her 40s, but never let me watch.

    • Sean

I wonder how many chicks will hit on her.

      hehe
