Brotherhood of the Wolf

Today I am enjoying the movie selections of our very own Evan! This is a werewolf film, in case you have not guessed. And it is from France, and been redubbed into English. It is also written and directed by Christophe Gans, who was the director on the Silent Hill movie and the live action Beauty and the Beast.

So what is it about? Generic IMDB is here to help:

In 18th-century France, the Chevalier de Fronsac and his Native American friend Mani are sent to the Gevaudan province at the king’s behest to investigate the killings of hundreds by a mysterious beast.

A mysterious beast??!?! Well, it’s killing, not raping, so that rules out the usual suspect. I suppose we will all have to watch to figure out who dunnit. And it is a good mystery, with plenty of action, and an excess amount of French people. It is a French film, so that explains the latter.

Trivia! There actually was a Beast of Gévaudan (La Bête du Gévaudan) which was a real wolf-like creature that prowled the Auvergne and South Dordogne regions of France during the years 1764 to 1767, killing about 100 people, often in bizarre circumstances. (courtesy IMDB.)

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! Next week, we will be going in blind. I am posting 008: Operation Exterminate! A little Italian Spy Film with legs!

Bonus!

Kinnath has been discussing his weight loss journey, and it brought this to mind. Please enjoy! At the least it gives Evan something to watch since he has already seen the feature film.

“who was the director on the Silent Hill movie”

I thought it started off well then ended badly.

    • rhywun

I have vaguely fond memories of that movie but it’s been a while.

      I love the IP.

      • Common Tater

        It’s on Tubi

      • rhywun

        Sweet.

I remember enjoying the 2nd one too. And apparently a new one just came out – I will have to keep an eye out for it.

      • Sean

Agreed. The IP is quite good.

  2. Common Tater

    “killing about 100 people”

    That’s like a hundred Ted Kennedy’s

    • Evan from Evansville

How many Oldsmobile Delmonts does that fill? Giraffes need to know.

  3. R.J.

I will be in and out tonight, it got really busy here.

  4. DEG

Seems to be a lot of commercials.

    • R.J.

It does seem like they are on the rise lately

    • Common Tater

I don’t see any because I go HDMI out of a laptop into a TV.

  5. Common Tater

    18th Century Juggalos?

“Next week, we will be going in blind. I am posting 008: Operation Exterminate! A little Italian Spy Film with legs!”

Since it’s before July 4, we should pick something American.

    • R.J.

Good point. Let me see what I can do.

      • dbleagle

“Spirit of 76” is a fun little romp about 1976.

“Broken Arrow” the Jimmy Stewart one about the Apache wars.

“The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” Jimmy, Lee Marvin, and the Duke. A true classic.

“High Noon” the old American spirit. A German officer couldn’t understand why I wasn’t insulted because he cited the sheriff in HN. Then he watched the film and understood.

“She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” The best of the John Ford cavalry trilogy.

Ah, yes, I guess the revolution will NOT be televised, or even discussed. I know nothing about this Australian host, but here’s the nutshell version. He’s a long time host of the the Australian version of the Today Show. He runs an independent podcast and interviewed Tommy Robinson. For this crime against humanity, the podcast episode has been taken down and he’s been fired by the network:

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-26/karl-stefanovic-leaving-channel-nine-9/106835046

The most bizarre thing? Here’s an excerpt of what the network’s executive director for news and current affairs said:

“Protecting freedom of speech is at the core of 9News and Current Affairs,” she said.

“We have a rich history of interviewing controversial figures, and journalists have an obligation to ask difficult questions.

“Part of what makes us tick is trying to understand why people are the way they are, or think the way they think. We welcome open debate and challenging norms with constructive, balanced arguments.

“As journalists, we play a critical role in society to question, challenge, and hold people to account regardless of where they come from or which political party or views they represent.”

Understand? The way we protect freedom of speech is to fire people.

*big high five* Thanks! I do gotta rewatch, but this flick is just fun and pretty. Don’t think too much. Monica Belucci is my spirit animal.

  9. DEG

I’m trying to figure out what was going on with that fight between the Indian and everyone else.

And then a commercial. I suspect I’m only going to get halfway through this before I need to break for the night.

    • Chafed

It’s like you are giving Ted’S the silent treatment.

  10. Michael Malaise

Le Pacte Des Loups is a really fun flick. Drags a bit in the middle. Failing to mention the presence of the divine prime Monica Bellucci in the film is criminal. It combines period costume drama, gothic horror, mystery-on-the-moors storytelling and kung fu into one crazy package.

    • R.J.

It does. Thank you for an excellent pick, Evan!

    • Common Tater

“One of the children was stabbed, while the rest appear to have been poisoned — possibly in a rage over their dad recently getting custody, sources told Channel 13.”

Family court made a good decision?

      • Threedoor

These assholes haven’t take innocents out when they simply need to off themselves.

      • Threedoor

        Have too

      • rhywun

        Yup.

      • Chafed

You took the words right out of my mouth.

  11. DEG

    Curiouser and curiouser.

The new guy from Paris is going to be a problem.

    • Evan from Evansville

Is this that footbally thingy again?

    • Threedoor

      No.
They should have to repay the Obama cash with interest.

      • Chafed

        Damn straight

    • Common Tater

      Babies are a right-wing conspiracy.

      • Threedoor

Since abortion is the sacrament of the left this is true.

  12. DEG

Hmm…. maybe I will stay up to finish this. So the “healer” from the beginning and his daughter control the beast.

    • DEG

And they are in cahoots with the brother.

    • Evan from Evansville

Guardian: “Teaching shouldn’t be a last resort for the jobless
Bob Epton and Lily Bond take exception to a letter that suggested youngsters should become teachers if they were struggling to get any other job

Teaching is an exceptionally difficult job that requires a multiplicity of skills on top of sound subject knowledge. We all want not just “good” but “inspirational” teachers for our children, not people who are incapable of anything else. How wonderful it would be if the first-choice career for our brightest and best graduates was teaching, with only those who couldn’t get a job elsewhere going into banking.”

      Yes. How wonderful that’d be.

      • Evan from Evansville

Woah. That went to the wrong place. I don’t plan on getting distracted by that until Bunk Time, which isn’t terribly far off.

      • Threedoor

Have a career or two before you become a teacher.

This is how the cycle of commie teachers is broken.

      • rhywun

How wonderful it would be if tedious leftists weren’t constantly lecturing the rest of the world with their tedious leftist propaganda.

      • Threedoor

        Can’t do?
        Teach
        Cant Teach?
        Coach

        Is oh so true.

      • rhywun

The coaches in my HS were teachers except they had to farm out soccer to some dude.

The ones I remember are football was my social studies teacher and tennis was my physics teacher.

      • Threedoor

        Social studies and English teachers.

        I rest my case.

      • rhywun

        Both were excellent teachers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Granted, it was 40 years ago.

    • J. Frank Parnell

I only clicked to see if the URL was accurate. I can confirm, it is accurate, those girls do not have yoga pants.

    • Chafed

That was not what I expected and thank you.

  13. DEG

Wow. That took a dark turn between the brother and the sister. Whoa.

  14. ron73440

This looks like a good one, I’ll try to watch it Saturday night.

    • rhywun

Seems crazy but I’m an Easterner and we don’t get wildfires. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • DEG

We have them in the East, just not as big or long lasting as the ones out West.

NH had some a year or so go.

      • rhywun

It is so goddamn humid all year every year it’s hard to imagine it. I’ve never heard of one but sure, there is always an exception.

      • DEG

        Droughts occur.

We’re also here in Northern New England prone to dry conditions for a short windows in the Spring before everything greens up and the rains come, and in the Fall after the leaves drop. During those times we also tend to get high winds.

    • Threedoor

It’s very rare to get an actual wildfire from fireworks. Grassfires, some scabland fires sure.

The Highway 30 Oregon fire that the commie governor used as an excuse to shut down a huge chunk of the state was caused by a kid with Roman candles. Supposedly.

  15. DEG

    That was pretty good.

    Thanks RJ! Thanks Evan!

  16. rhywun

    USA! USA!

This match against Turkeyay is fun.

I expected that we should not underestimate them. My hometown was loaded with immigants from there and they had a rep for being good. They have definitely been underperforming so far.

    • Raven Nation

USA seems a half-step slower most of the time.

      • rhywun

I’ll let it slide since they don’t need this.

The Turkeyaysian fans are probably going to be rightly pissed at their poor performance in the first two matches.

      • rhywun

Huh. Well, that’s not good enough.

Glad I’m not there to witness that shitshow.

  17. Chafed

I assume this movie is a short because the Frenchies immediately surrendered.
