Saturday evening Links

It’s been warm and dry here in Manly Time, today offered a respite. I woke up to a gentle rain that’s going to continue for a bit. I was going to power wash the patio today in preparation for next Friday’s shindig, but I’m going to use this opportunity to lounge about. Works for me.

Links?

“You’re dick is green. Might want to get that looked at.”

I wanna grow up and be this guy.

Not sure where the north African tribes that sold each other into slavery are going to come up with the money.

Don’t vacation in third world countries.

Uh, yeah. No. We’re done with that.

In other Middle East news…

Tulsi walks out with a mic drop. Too bad nothing will come of it.

Because they were all complicit in the cover up.

Okay, that’s it for me. Back to lounging about. Peace out, Glibbies.

    Needs more punitive redistribution

The California Teachers Association, the state’s largest teachers union, opposes a measure on the November ballot that would impose a one-time tax on the state’s billionaires.

“After thorough review and democratic debate about the Billionaire Tax Act, our State Council of Delegates — 800 educator representatives from throughout the state — determined that this policy will not provide the sustainable and long-lasting funding that our schools and communities deserve,” CTA wrote in a statement.

The union went on to say that they fully support taxing the wealthy, but prefer to do so by extending the taxes on the wealthy that were imposed under Proposition 30 and later Proposition 55, which generate millions for schools and community colleges and are set to end in 2030, unless voters extend them in November.

We can’t get by on some piddly one time cash grab.

The union went on to say that they fully support taxing the wealthy

      Oh. Whew!

For a minute there I thought they might have joined reality.

The plan includes a new specific call for compensation for gender-based violence, referencing data that suggests “women represented approximately 30% of the estimated 20 million Africans forcefully transported across the Atlantic Ocean”.

    umm…

The draft, which has been seen by the Guardian, asserts that climate justice and slavery reparations are “inextricably linked”

Oh, of course they are. Why would anyone ever assume otherwise?

      • R.J.

They are both linked to make it easier to toss them in the trash

      • rhywun

        Just… wow.

You can’t make this shit up.

Shrek’s uncut? Huh. Seems a proper ogre ritual, but no ogre mohel, I s’pose. Pretty good band name.

I was curious if it would be a red rocket like a dog or more like a human.

        Mike Myer’s won’t return my e-mails.

      • Spudalicious

        He does that a lot.

    • Trigger Hippie

I would too if I had employees as dumb and incompetent as the one he spoke of in the morning links.

      • Trigger Hippie

        Er…that was for Spud.

Hey, nice enough pussy buys a lot of ‘ignore my faults.’ IMF. Ha, such a perfect descriptive acronym, ‘I May Fuck.’

The Israeli military carried out the attacks after Hezbollah fired more than 50 times at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, a military official said. Five Israeli soldiers were killed by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon over the last couple of days, the official said.

Lebanese health officials said seven people were killed in the latest strikes. They said 83 people had been killed and 141 wounded in the earlier attacks, in which Israel said it killed dozens of militants.

I mean, most ceasefire agreements between Israel and (*insert Islamic terrorist group here) seem to be more like “fire at each other a bit less than we have been” agreements, so what’s the issue?

      • rhywun

Timelss. It reads like a blurb that could have come out in any of the decades I have been alive.

“The (Syrian’s) destruction of the Kurdish autonomous area has not, however, led to a general reconciliation between the various ethnic and sectarian communities that make up the Syrian social fabric.”

No shit, yeah?! *head explodes* Especially over there, were quaint, colonizing, racist and patriarchal ideas like ‘life, liberty, property’ never took hold.

    • rhywun

“Various ethnic and sectarian communities” fighting each other basically describes all of the Middle East and the entire continent of Africa. I dunno if it would have turned out any different had The West not dicked around across the region.

      • Evan from Evansville

Oh, yes. We certainly affect the TIMING of such, that’s true. Most telling: The only parts of Africa that are doing kinda well, or aren’t complete, absolute primitive shitfuck swamps, were “colonized” by Euros. The reality of that SHOULD have more power against the ‘anti-colonists,’ but I suppose it’s a tough argument to sell. (‘Specially when ‘educated’ by those with skin in the game of KEEPING ‘anti-colonizing’ popular for they Big Blue Tribe they belong to.

UTVs are great. I’d drive one with a pickup bed if I was allowed.

    • DrOtto

Oy, all the commenters on that article pissing and moaning about UTVs skirting emissions and safety requirements makes me sick. God forbid anyone has a say in how they live their life outside what Uncle Sugar says is allowed.

      • Plinker762

Best response in comments: “Whaaa, whaaa! Let freedom ring!!!”

Interesting times, ahead. I wonder when if/how something more organized gets under way.

“A maniac went on a bloody rampage with a machete in Scotland that left five people hurt.
The shirtless attacker appeared to be targeting Muslims in the Friday attacks, which unfolded in Edinburgh, according to reports.Video shared online appeared to show the suspect saying he was “protecting his country” from Muslims while being held on the ground and arrested.

“I’ve told you time and time again, I’m protecting the country from these f–king Muslim bastards. Raping our young daughters, raping our kids. Enough is enough. I have had enough,” the man shouted while being cuffed.”

    • rhywun

It was inevitable. People have reached their breaking point. It must be really bad there.

Narrator: We know it is really bad. In so many ways.

      • Evan from Evansville

The newly released report of the ~250,000 rapes+ that were, uh, not investigated and silenced? I want to catch up on that story, specifics-wise. Not only was the justice system uncaring, folk that were were actively punished for tweeting.

They proudly allowed themselves to be disarmed, so knives are an easy option, but I’m guessing they’ll go back to bombs. But the Islamic retaliation? Uh, they’re more ‘seasoned,’ I expect. More willing to die for the virgins.

        It’s all profoundly fucked.

    • rhywun

Maybe all those Scottish soccer fans we keep hearing about aren’t just impressed by ranch dressing but also our apparent lack of a Muslim rape gang problem.

Busy day. I’m grateful to have a Saturday off. Been working 6x10s. Kinda burnt out. Salaried so I don’t get paid for it. No end in sight.

I got the kitchen and bathroom cleaned. I planted the wacky tabacky in tubs outside. Planted the flowers (marigolds, zinnias, forget-me-nots, calendula, amaranth, poppies (the fun kind)) in containers. Planted the herbs in containers. Hacked at the thistles in the big garden. Burned them with the propane torch (die, muthafucka, die!). Planted morning glories.

Tomorrow I need to plant 5 butternut trees, several grape plants, and several raspberry plants. Maybe I’ll even get some potatoes in the ground.

I pulled a muscle in my back while feeding the chickens. Sipping on Laird’s Apple Jack (Thanks to whomever suggested it a while back) to make it better.

    • Fourscore

Save some space for Fall rhubarb, you never know

  7. The Late P Brooks

That being said, UTVs are not engineered to the same safety and emissions standards as passenger cars.

    Fuck off, grandma.

    • DrOtto

Don’t read the comments on the article, the Karens are strong with that site.

      • R.J.

It’s astounding. Why do they care? Don’t drive one then!
        Fuck off Karens!

      • rhywun

Because someone, somewhere might be having fun.

  8. The Late P Brooks

Hacked at the thistles in the big garden. Burned them with the propane torch (die, muthafucka, die!).

Cutting the root with a shovel seems to be the most effective way of dealing with the giant space cabbages we have here. They just come back if you spray them.

  9. The Late P Brooks

A maniac went on a bloody rampage with a machete in Scotland

    Did he paint himself blue?

    • Ted S.

A maniac went on a bloody rampage with a machete in Scotland

And he’s slashing like he’s never slashed before.

      • Evan from Evansville

@Ted: At first, I was gonna point at the slasher’s inexperience and compare with the ‘bombing experience’ I mentioned above.

Then I realized what you did done did there, and appreciated it. Slasher couldn’t pull it off like Chris Farley.

  10. Shpip

An 85-year-old man was arrested after allegedly street racing at over 100 miles per hour in a sports car while smoking a cigarillo.

Leesburg is right next to The Villages, i.e., a bunch of superannuated Boomers who can’t afford to retire to coastal Florida but can afford a Corvette (or in this case, a Corvette and a Nissan 3xxZ).

Florida recently passed a “Super Speeder” law, and certain counties are making a point about enforcing it. Expect to see lots of “Florida Man arrested for doing 120 on a straight section of deserted county road” headlines for a while.

    • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I got stopped for doing 122 mph in rural Oklahoma on my motorcycle. Rural road. Cows to the left (fenced). Wheat fields to the right. It was about the safest place to see what she would do. I crested a hill (or what you would call a hill in flatland OK) and saw a car with gear on the roof. I honked on the brakes. My buddy also honked on his brakes. The officer turned around and lit up his cherries. He asked to search our bikes. I said no. He knocked it down to 85 in a 55 mph. Triple digits in OK means they confiscate your vehicle. I consider myself lucky.

    • kinnath

I was disappointed the article didn’t say what the Nissan was. I was wondering if it was a Z. I can’t think of anything else that could hang with a corvette.

      • Frosty

I saw the article elsewhere and I believe it was a modern Z.

A GTR would dispatch most ‘vettes pretty handily though.

      • kinnath

        Thanks for the info.

I didn’t expect it was a GTR doing “only” 110.

      • DrOtto

Rental Altima with bumper covers flapping in the wind.

  11. Rat on a train

I learned it is a red card to cover your mouth during an altercation. Soccer is retarded.

    • Evan from Evansville

Is it to make it impossible to lip read the ‘racial slurs’ the red-carded are yelling? Everyone in baseball does it for that reason. <– That's the only explanation that makes 'sense,' and it's really, really fucking dumb. Again, *childishly* dumb. Fucking retarded 'adults,' some of whom may book learn certain things just okay. Damn.

VOLDEMORT, MOTHERFUCKERS!! DO YOU HEAR IT?!!?

      • rhywun

That is exactly why they are doing it, because racism is literally the worst evil the planet has to offer. This campaign to “end” it has been going on for a long, long time.

      • The Hyperbole

        Yeah, fuck sportsmanship and couth.

    • rhywun

Only since about a week ago. Apparently the reeducation camps aren’t working it was felt that sterner measures were needed.

    • R.J.

Flopping is a res card now too

      • R.J.

Apparently my fingers are retarded. Or drunk. Maybe both.

    • DrOtto

      You can say that again.

      • Rat on a train

        This statement is squirrel approved.

  13. rhywun

    Ugh… work.

I hope the comment I just added to a Teams thread prevents me from getting a confused phone call around 11pm or midnight.

    • Ted S.

You’re lucky work gives you a functioning Teams.

I’ve been complaining for months that I have to use the web version and that it doesn’t give me the toast pop-ups, and IT can’t be bothered to do anything.

      • rhywun

We have a pretty good team, I have to admit. Of course I am also IT and therefore very competent too if not involved on that side of things.
