Assaulted Guards

No I am not talking about someone with Antifa finally going to jail who apparently assaulted a concentration camp full of Mexicans. Nah we’re going to do something even more inane.

This is my review of Ommegang Rare Vos Amber Ale (H/T: Not Adhan):

Before I begin, I will issue the Standard Libertarian Disclaimer: professional women’s basketball is not a sport. Is it a college sport? Sure, but not professional.

Anyways, the most interesting female in the WNBA is up to her shenanigans again. She was playing basketball when suddenly out of nowhere she was viciously assaulted by a black woman on the other team. Why would she do that? Because she is a white girl that gets the headlines.

The player assaulting her of course was suspended…for one game. It drew more attention because of how light the punishment seemed. This woman was assaulted, then insulted by the other team for the slap on the wrist, then the whole incident was called out by the world’s biggest man-child! ASSAULTED I TELLS YA.

…or maybe she fell over and the other player went for the ball, saw it was gone and stood back up since the play was still going. Whatever it is, it is not a throat punch. According to the US Army Field Manual this is a throat punch. It appears “the internet” is once again falling for the same trap the corporate media constantly plays in slowing down the video frame by frame in order to find a frame that validates a chosen narrative. But she’s constantly drawing hard fouls and they might finally be making an example of someone? Fine yes they seem to be fouling her hard, because she’s good. So was Michael Jordan every time he had to play Detroit. Mike adjusted, that’s why he’s the GOAT.

I think they are surprisingly open about what is going on here. The haters are saying the only reason people are paying attention to this is because the most interesting female in the WNBA is a pretty white girl. Her apologists are saying the WNBA is stupid because they are trashing the one player that is drawing more attention than the rest of the league as a whole. All of this is intended to draw attention to something nobody would otherwise pay any attention to…goddamnit it worked.

I can’t remember if it was Not Adhan that commented I need to review an Ommegang beer when I get back. If it was you, sorry. if it wasn’t you, again sorry. Anyways I am not sure if I would classify this an an amber. Ambers normally are a much more balanced drink with a nice malt profile and a crisp hoppy finish. Does this not have that? No it does. Why I say this is not an amber is because there is an obvious “funk” to it that I would prefer to classify as a Belgian ale, and I don’t think anyone is going to really argue with that. At any rate I happen to like Belgians anyways, so it was a nice surprise and I would happily recommend it if you’re in the part of the country where this is actually available as a tall can. Ommegang Rare Vos Amber Ale (H/T: Not Adhan): 3.8/5

you can’t say that about a black woman

No you can, but only you can.

The June 16, 1984, episode of Piper’s Pit would go down in history as the start of something huge: the Rock ‘n Roll Connection. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper™ interviewed pop star Cyndi Lauper™, Captain Lou Albano™ crashed the conversation, and chaos ensued! It was the start of an epic era of collaboration between music video makers and WWE® Superstars, which launched WWE into the cultural mainstream and led to the creation of WrestleMania®.

“The haters are saying the only reason people are paying attention to this is because the most interesting female in the WNBA is a pretty white girl.”

Pretty…huh. I guess it takes all sorts.

    • rhywun

      Yeah that was my thought

      • cyto

I really dont understand that complaint. Not like she is deformed or anything, but she is definitely not above the “average” swath. “Skinny” and “attractive” are not synonyms.

There have been lots of star women’s basketball players who are attractive- going all the way back to Reggie Miller’s sister, who is a better ballplayer than he is (relatively speaking)

They all got cosmetic endorsements, and other endorsement contracts based on their appearance. But they were mostly black. Nobody was putting Rebecca Lobo on the cover of Cosmopolitan, no matter how great and white she was.

        Dogwhistle is misogynistic

      • Mojeaux

It’s not about pretty. It’s about white. To the speaker, being white is default “pretty.”

    • mexican sharpshooter

There’s a sliding scale here. The same WNBA crowd thinks the USWNT is more popular because most feamale soccer players are also, “pretty white girls” like Meagan Rapinoe apparently.

    • Threedoor

She’s skinny, tall, and young. That’s what she’s got going for her.

  4. Trigger Hippie

As far as said “controversy” goes…not really seeing malicious intent in real time.

    • mexican sharpshooter

I will admit my view is sullied by UFC.

I haven’t had Rare Vos in a long time. It was in a corked and caged (not a euphemism) bottle when I had it.

Ommegang makes great stuff. I would expect a Belgian twist to it since they make Belgian ales.

    Their Three Philosophers is great.

I watched a few stretches of WNBA games because of the Clark hype.

WNBA basketball is terrible. Worse than college. The officiating is terrible. This leads to a lot of horrible play with turnovers, missed shots and push-off putback rebounds.

The multistep “gather step” jumpers of the NBA look 1,000x worse when executed awkwardly by these ladies.

Clark does make the game look pretty good when she is doing her thing. Her vision and passing is exceptional, for any league.

But overall, it is unwatchable. Mostly because of the officiating.

Clark isnt the only one getting roughed up like that. It really makes for an ugly game when you can just run into people or grab them with two hands.

It makes me crazy. They have a ton of goodwill and some willing eyeballs, and they dont see that cleaning up play would help them keep those eyeballs.

    • PieInTheSky

I tried to watch yeah nah

I was their perfect target demo

        Dude who likes sports

        Loves basketball

Went to all the womens games in college (and dated one of the players when we were in high school. She was a walk on and didnt play. But she *was* guilty of being a hot blond.)

So they could not ask for a better potential customer.

And their product is unwatchable. Most of my WNBA action comes from clips like this:

        https://youtube.com/shorts/PfA8Tyv0kTE

      • PieInTheSky

        heh

I like basketball but cant say I was a target cause it just looks like bad basketball and I do not have the game to date the hot blonds anyway.

      • Ted S.

Technically she was a hot blonde. Not that there’s anything wrong with it if your taste is in hot blonds.

I should have the orphans polish a few for shop use. Necessary to read the tiny printing on taps and dies.

      • DrOtto

I’m thankfully near-sited and just had to read the small print on a tap & die yesterday. Unfortunately, when the tap & die comes out, I’m already having a bad day though.

      • Threedoor

I’ve always had a hard time reading them.

      • Threedoor

And then I had to get the carbide drill bits out…

Broke one of them yesterday too. In the hole I was drilling a high speed steel drill bit that I broke off earlier out.

Got the job done but it only took two hours longer and I had to use a 3/8 grease zerk rather than the 1/4” one I had intended.

AOC actually has pretty good instincts. With a machine controlling her and also controlling the media, dont count her out.

I think they are leaning Newsome for their vacuous prop who looks the part on TV, but it could be that the “her turn” crowd has enough power.

      • Raven Nation

        Newsom/AOC 2028?

      • rhywun

Yeah, I don’t count her out – I think she is very dangerous. But the US chooses a communist president I don’t know if I could stop laughing.

      • Threedoor

        We already had FDR.

  13. The Late P Brooks

Just what a fascist would say

Donald Trump has previewed a Republican strategy for the midterm elections, seizing on a progressive sweep in New York to portray Democrats as “godless communists” who pose an existential threat to the nation.

The US president, who was a child during the “red scare”, seized on wins by democratic socialists backed by the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, to stoke fears that the Democratic party has embraced extremism that could lead to the violent persecution of Christians.

On Friday, Trump was addressing religious conservatives at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s annual Road to Majority conference at the Washington Hilton hotel. He described the election winners in New York as “very troubling people” and claimed without evidence that they “want to destroy our country, and they hate our country and our people”.

They don’t want to destroy America, they want to make it better, by saving us from late stage capitalist oligarchy. Is that so wrong?

    • cyto

A couple of them have actually called for the destruction of not just America, but all of western civilization. What are we doing here?

  14. Plinker762

I liked watching high school girls basketball while I was attending that high school. Since graduating HS, I haven’t watched any basketball, lol.

  15. Plinker762

Gotta admit, I was expecting a Trump related link for “world’s biggest man-child”

  16. The Late P Brooks

Jumping in front of the Maoist parade

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is widely viewed as a 2028 presidential contender, on Friday called for a nationwide tax on billionaires as part of a broader agenda to usher in what he’s calling an “economic reset for America.”

The Democratic governor, in a Substack post and accompanying video posted on social media, backed hiking taxes on the nation’s richest — but reiterated his opposition to a state-level wealth tax that Californians will vote on in November.

    ——-

Newsom’s early rollout of a possible finance-focused campaign platform echoes proposals that have already been put forward by other Democrats — including some, like Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who are also flirting with a run for the highest U.S. office.

Newsom framed his economic message in terms of a broad coalition of working Americans who have been disadvantaged by a system unfairly skewed toward the wealthy.

“They did everything right, and the system still has nothing for them,” the governor wrote in Friday’s post. “What stands in their way is the federal tax code, a corporate code, and an inheritance code written for a different set of Americans.”

    Round up the usual scapegoats.

I believe Ommegang uses the same house yeast for everything, which is a Belgian strain. It’s also ferments fast as hell, and relatively cleanly. As they’re owned by Duvel, I would assume that they’re sticking with US Belgian styles to be released under the Ommegang label, leaving the standards under the Boulevard or Firestone Walker labels. My only complaint about the Duvel ownership is that I still don’t get Firestone Walker here in Ohio.

Despite heavy thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday the firefighters are still saying that the fire is 0% contained. No movement towards our house, though for the past 3 days.

My best hope was for the evacuation lifted was today, after all of the rain. The weather is changing to hot, dry, and windy for the next few days so it looks like we are in for a long slog.

The Socialists didn’t get much play or attention when they existed as a minor party in the last fifty years. Now, as players within the Democrat Party, they “got the word out,” started to grow, and are actually winning primaries and generals. Maybe Libertarians should take a page from them and stop wasting time and money trying to keep a third party afloat? Instead, burrow into the GOP and start trying to move them toward liberty and less government.

Get back to me when “libertarians” have seized control of the educational infrastructure. That’s hoe the socialists have legitimized themselves.
