IFLA: The “Road Work 1” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of August 2

by | Aug 2, 2026 | IFLA | 33 comments

Technically I won’t be on the road when this one is published, but I need to get both of those written and casting horoscopes out of sequence sometimes causes me to miss emerging trends, so I’m doing a month’s worth in one swell foop.

This week the biggest downer is Saturn going retrograde. Doubling downer is it’s aligned with Mercury and the sun which is probably an extra bit of Things Falling Apart but could potentially (if you’re lucky. I crack myself up.) mean a new beginning. Monday is a good time to put the moves on your domestic partner. Thursday is a time to be extra careful that whatever you and your domestic partner are doing doesn’t damage your home

Leo: 7 of Cups reversed – Desire, will, determination, project.

Virgo: Ace of Coins reversed – The evil side of wealth, bad intelligence

Libra: Justice reversed – Law in all its departments, legal complications, bigotry, bias, excessive severity.

Scorpio: 4 of Coins reversed – Suspense, delay, opposition, contingency plans mostly but not completely successful.

Sagittarius: 2 of Cups – Love, passion, friendship, affinity, union, concord, sympathy, agreements.

Capricorn: Queen of Swords* – Widowhood, female sadness and embarrassment, absence, sterility, mourning, privation, separation.

Aquarius: King of Swords reversed* – Cruelty, perversity, barbarity, perfidy, evil intention.

Pisces: 4 of Swords – Vigilance, retreat, solitude, hermit’s repose, exile, tomb and coffin.

Aries: 7 of Swords reversed – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling.

Taurus: 8 of Coins reversed – Voided ambition, vanity, cupidity, exaction, usury.

Gemini: 4 of Wands reversed – Prosperity, increase, felicity, beauty, embellishment.

Cancer: 10 of Swords reversed – Advantage, profit, success, favor, but none of these are permanent. Pyrrhic victory.

*These two cards drawn consecutively have additional meaning. None of them are good though.

Widowhood, female sadness and embarrassment, absence, sterility, mourning, privation, separation.

That’s not going to please the spousal unit one bit.

Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling.

Sounds like I’ll be talking to myself a good bit.

      “Everybody’s talking ’bout me,
      Can’t hear a word they’re sayin'”

Not yet but the handwriting is there

Almost like the Palisades, or Hawaii, or…

      • Threedoor

Zwak. That’s what I said last night.

News ‘it’s a fire storm warning’

News a few hours later ‘it’s the first time the state predicted a fire’. Then you look at the map and think, that’s pretty suspicious.

I’m betting a cigarette butt or arson.

    • Threedoor

It would be ‘good’ if it were Hilliard or between the bus station and division.

Well. I suppose I’ll find out this week if I’m being axed as an escrow processor. That’s possibly distinct ‘voided ambition.’

And I think I really do have the system (reasonably) understood after two weeks of actual work. But I haven’t had test cases to show the uppers this. Don’t know if I will.

    I’d say that’s sufficiently shitty.

Leaving Michigan City after a night w full family. A very fun time and I’m pleased I decided to go and not back out in a sullen mood yesterday. We’ll see how it goes.

    Leo is not sufficiently shitty.

I just bought a new silencer for my AR.

If you are thinking about a silencer (and you should be) then now is the time to buy. All the paperwork, fingerprints, photo submission, everything was done automatically through the Silencer Shop kiosk – took fifteen minutes.

Sadly I couldn’t walk out the door with it, but compared to twenty years ago when I bought my first can, it was easy as pie.

    • Threedoor

I want my tax stamp cash back on my half dozen.

Need to do the SBRs and SBS here soon when cash is available.

      • EvilSheldon

I think this is #4 for me, plus three SBR’d AR lowers.

        I’m already shopping for #5, a super-light direct-thread can for a future PRS Gas Gun build…

    Weird fantasies

MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell tore into Senate Republicans, saying they “disgraced themselves” during a hearing Wednesday with Anthony Fauci. While Fauci’s testimony was meant to focus on the origins of Covid-19, O’Donnell said members of the majority spent their time “attacking” a man he said had saved “possibly millions” of lives during the pandemic.

    ——-

“There is no higher calling than saving lives,” O’Donnell said. “There is nothing we could ever do more important than saving a single life. And most of us will never know that feeling of saving a life.”

    Fap fap fap.

    Iran war predictions

It will drag out for the rest of Trump’s term, and the next president will struggle to gain “peace with honor”. The end result is we will stop bombing them, both sides declare victory, and things go back to the way they were before the war.

War – a simple guide for American leaders

    1. If you are already at war, even a proxy one, finish it before starting a new one.

    2. Pick ONE country to bomb. This is important.

    3. Pick at least one other country to help with the bombing. If you can’t get help, stop. Do not go to step 4.

    4. Bomb the shit out of the country you picked in step 2. This should not take more than a month.

    5. Declare victory whether they surrender or not.

    6. STOP bombing them.

    • Fourscore

Had Trump not dodged the draft he might have learned what war is all about.

He and Biden, Cheney and Bill Clinton could have been tent mates

    Wagons ho

California’s High-Speed Rail Authority repeatedly missed key deadlines to buy its trains, a failure federal officials cited when they pulled $4 billion in funding a year ago. More than a year and a half after the original deadline, the authority still cannot say when it expects to award the contract. The state says that the date remains “TBD.”

Approved by voters in 2008, the project was originally designed to link San Francisco and Los Angeles in under three hours with electric trains capable of reaching 220 mph. There’s no direct line between the two major cities, and the ride now takes 10.5 to 12 hours.

Psst- apparently you haven’t heard, but we have these things called airplanes now, which have rendered long distance rail travel obsolete.

  14. The Late P Brooks

In July 2025, the Trump administration pulled $4 billion in federal funding for California’s high-speed rail project, citing the state’s failure to lay any tracks after spending $15 billion over 16 years.

    ——-

Gov. Gavin Newsom called the federal withdrawal of funding a “political stunt to punish California,” and state Attorney General Rob Bonta promptly sued “to stop Trump’s politically motivated attack on high-speed rail.”

Yet, less than six months later, California dropped the lawsuit. The rail authority offered no explanation, but said it hoped to work with the federal government some time in the future after deciding this administration “was not a reliable partner.”

Hoe do you expect us to meet these unreasonable and onerous demands?

    • UnCivilServant

How many transcontinental railroads were laid in less time than it has taken for Commiefornia to lay one mile of high speed rail to nowhere?

I know the purpose of the project is to plunder the budget, but you should still make it look like you’ve gotten something out of all the cash.

      • Threedoor

The unused tracks will have to be replaced several times by then.
