Hennessey’s latest supercar produces less than 1000 horsepower, but the mad scientists down in Sealy, Texas, haven’t gone soft. Instead, the Hennessey Blackbird signals a shift in priorities for the American outfit, from chasing speed records to focusing on maximizing driver engagement. While the Blackbird packs less muscle than both the Lotus-based Venom GT and the most recent Venom F5, it will prioritize putting a smile on the face of anyone who gets behind the wheel thanks to the combination of a naturally aspirated V-8, rear-wheel drive, and a six-speed gated manual transmission.
Don’t worry though, the Blackbird is no shrinking violet. Named for the famed Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird airplane, Hennessey’s latest beast will still be capable of a 220-mph top speed. Power will come from a new naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8, developed in conjunction with Ilmor Engineering, the same folks responsible for the Chevy V-6s found in the current breed of IndyCars. The engine will rev to more than 9000 rpm and produce between 800 and 850 horsepower, enough to shoot the Blackbird to 60 mph in a claimed 2.5 seconds.
Given the lower power output, the key to the Blackbird’s performance is its lightweight design, with Hennessey employing a full carbon-fiber tub and carbon-fiber bodywork to help keep the overall curb weight below a targeted 3000 pounds. Hennessey also aims to provide engaging handling via an adaptive suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
Based on the NAPCAR truck series motor, presumably. Not a bad starting point.
They could shave some more weight off by deleting that “adaptive suspension” crap.
I don’t like the looks either. But, no fan for downforce!
Something to be said for exclusivity and rarity, I reckon. Since I can get pretty much the same performance from the Toyota GR GT at a tenth of the price.
Something tells me that I won’t be seeing one of the Hennesseys at Track Day anytime soon.
$2.5mil if you eat shit on the track would be a hell of a bite, even if you’re rich enough to afford a $2.5mil car in the first place. Especially if you’re putting up the same times at the other guy with the GT3, Viper, or whatever…

It is in the interest of the humanity who reside in Great Britain to repel invaders to their homeland. It’s been that way (or should have been) since 1066.
A couple of 20mm rounds through a small boat will sort out that problem, as well as be a lesson to others.

A remarkable new law went into effect in Minnesota on Saturday that bans nudification apps, AI-based or not. It penalizes the app provider by enabling lawsuits from victims, and levying fairly harsh fines of up to $500,000 not just per generation, but every time someone accesses the image, meaning a viral image could be financially catastrophic.

The law defines “nudification” as altering a photo of a recognizable person to expose “intimate parts,” which—with apologies for being a bit graphic—can include more than just the classic broadcast TV standard of genitals, buttocks, and female nipples. The “intimate parts definition comes from a separate state statute defining those parts as the “primary genital area, groin, inner thigh, buttocks, or breast of a human being.”
To count as nudification, image alteration has to be basically at-the-push-of-a-button, and can’t involve artistry or skill. So the pervy Photoshoppers of Minnesota are safe from this law (but this is not legal advice, and don’t come crying to Gizmodo if you run afoul of Minnesota’s revenge porn laws).

Not just the coverage itself but just started window on permanent Medicare premium increase because we’re in deferral due to creditable coverage.
Pre OMB the feds would take things like paystubs as proof of coverage to avoid the increase.
They should get you reinstated or at least COBRA until you can properly enroll.
However, health insurance is my least anount of knowledge of all forms of insurance.
I’m not worried yet, other than the inconvenience and ineptitude. And because it’s outsourced, my HR dept’s response is open a case with them. Maybe I should be worried.
Life update OT. Today I had a PET scan, tomorrow is preop, and the day after is surgery to remove the top lobe of my right lung. PET scan went pretty well, I did not feel out of sorts afterwards as I have in the past. I believe they have a new formula of radioactive glucose that isn’t as harsh as it use to be. I talked to the surgeon last week and this is all he does. He’s an older guy, but says this is old man surgery since he sits and manipulates everything remotely using robots and cameras. I asked when I could go back to work, he looked at my job title and said whenever I feel like it, you’re a supervisor so have someone else do any lifting for you, but besides that you should be good.
My sister passed away last Saturday, 1300 miles away in Montana. I’ve been in contact with her SO and she is working a memorial around my schedule, which is in flux, so that is good. My sister wanted some of her ashes buried on our mom’s grave which is here in Texas, so I will bring some ashes back with me to do just that. Nothing like taking a post hold digger to the graveyard in the middle of the night. (“I’ll get my kit!” Bender, Futurama.) I’ve also had my brother, sister, and my name engraved on the back of mom’s stone, now I need to have a date added. I’m the last of the OG family, feeling a little lost right now, but I have the new family I created to help, and it helps. Peace.

We shared a sense of gallows humor, and it seems I was one of the few that did with her. We would talk on the phone and we could crack death and cancer jokes while my wife and my sister’s wife just groaned out loud.

The Fourscores will disappear from the demographics, my immigrant parents had 3 sons, my paternal uncle had one ,my cousin, who died in WW2, unmarried. My 2 brothers and I begat a total of four boys, 2 had 2 daughters each, no boys. My oldest brother had 1, never married. My son married, divorced and never had any kids. I became the patriarch by default about 15 years ago.
Family name will disappear. Life goes on.
