So what the heck do I play for a 5th anniversary show? I decided to play a classic from my youth. I am turning 60 tomorrow and I am feeling nostalgic. Besides, P.J. Soles is such a nice lady, every time I see her.
Does anybody not know about this movie? Possible some of the young ones lack understanding, so I will pull in a quick summary from marcusgrant-86630@ IMDB:
P.J. Soles lights up the screen as Riff Randle – a fun loving teenager who just wants to listen to her Ramones albums without her evil school principal, Ms. Togar (a hilariously campy Mary Woronov), telling her that she’s a bad person for it. Naturally, this pushes Riff to go to desperate lengths to share her love of The Ramones and even gets a hundred of her classmates tickets to their local concert…but will Ms. Togar try to put an end to their fun?
Rock ‘n Roll High School is absurdist comedy at its most bizarre. The music of The Ramones adds a nice underscore for the punk rock storyline and general sense of anarchy. All the actors are fun, including the adorable Dey Young and charmingly goofy Vincent Van Patten. Cult icons Paul Bartel, Dick Miller, and Clint Howard are also amusing in their smaller roles.
Turn off your brain, crank up the volume, and have a blast.
Thank you very much, Marcus! I owe you a drink should we meet sometime.
Film Trivia! There is a wonderful list of trivia for this film. This is probably the most famous bit:
Originally, Todd Rundgren was to star as the musical act, but both sides could not come to an agreement. Next, Cheap Trick was contacted, but a similar situation happened. After that, talks were conducted with Warner Bros. Records, where Allan Arkush had a connection, to decide on which band they should use in the film. The first suggestion was Devo, but Arkush decided that they had too much of their own concept. Another band considered for the movie was Van Halen, but Warner execs warned Arkush that they were raucous and would be difficult to handle. Finally, an exec name-dropped the Ramones, who recorded for Sire Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Records. Arkush, being a huge fan of the band, agreed. To this day, Rundgren regrets passing up the role he was offered. –IMDB
This movie would not have had the impact it did without the Ramones. Nobody else on that list could have pulled this off. Now here’s a few odds and ends from the year I wanted to get out in the universe:
GlibFlick Trivia! Next year we will have the 300th show, should I not die or otherwise be incapacitated. And this is the first year since this show began that our average comments per post per year has gone up! Fantastic news!
Thanks! Thanks to Tonio and Bethannica, who believed in this concept and remain supportive even now.
The Rejects! And now… The list of horrible stuff I considered but did not officially post (except here). There is a ton more. The things I watch for you people…
I imagine this is enough of me talking and copy/pasting from IMDB for one day. Everybody put on your party hats, get your favorite beverage and enjoy Rock ‘N’ Roll High School!

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! I will say that few things make me happier than being right here, with you folks. I thank you all for accepting me and my silliness.
Bonus Film List!
This is what used to reside in the Forum. It is a list of all the movies I have ever played. There is a master chart, a comment volume tracker, and a breakout by year. Why? I am an autistic libertarian. That’s why. In case you ever wondered if I played a certain film, well, here is your answer! Year one and two I used to do a retrospective of all the movies I played during the anniversary post, but now the list is over 200 movies, and that would get a tad unwieldy.

Theme Song!
Yep. I have one.

Gabba Gabba Hey!
Huzzah!
Woo! Five years!
Thank you, R.J.!
How long has this site been in operation? We’re closing in on a decade, since it was after the 2016 election that the final straws started arriving. I think it was early 2017 that the jump was made.
I came over around 2020, and started the movie postings in 2021.
I was an early Glib. Moved during the initial migration.
Thank you, Mojeaux!!! 🥳🥰🤗
🥳👍
I hope we’re not going to have to have editors on standby to kick the articles into active.
I think…
This happened with things scheduled days ago. I will remain hopeful that this crisis has passed.
My stuff gets scheduled weeks in advance because I write so far ahead when I put them up.
Then there may still be an issue tomorrow.
I mentioned on dedthred I can see what’s coming but I can’t seem to publish it 🙁
Yes, Rhy, we’re both Mere Contributers.
UCS – got it re: “contributor” level. That makes sense.
Actual superpowers would be more limited.
Yes, thank you very much!
Okay, so I think I’m gonna write a companion piece on MLW’s post because I know why they only read the dialogue and I’m pissed about two things:
1. My genre label has been ONE THING since before I was born and I “grew up” (as a writer) inside that boundary. Those fucking illiterate 30yo girls have hijacked it.
2. The REASON they only read the dialogue is because all these cunts grew up reading fanfiction. Okay, so what. Well, except they never read anything GOOD, and by good, I mean actual good writing. Sex can exist in good writing as well as no-sex can. But they don’t care if it’s good, They want their dopamine hits. That’s bad enough except … THESE ARE THE CUNTS SITTING IN NEW YORK MAKING BUYING DECISIONS, TOO!!!
I need to go cool off.
Why, no, I do NOT want my work lumped in with Morning Glory Milking Farm and I feel kicked out of my own house.
I understand the sentiment. I’m nowhere near as established, but there’s plenty of works which have seen commercial success in rpoximity to where I produce I feel embarassed to think of an association being made.
If my rambling makes any sense.
Yay! I was wondering why you hadn’t said anything. Trapped in an internet bubble?
No, I got a bona fide grown-up W2 job with bennies.
Also, I’ve been rehabbing my website.
Not doubting anything you are saying. Only thing I’d add is that I feel like the decline of quality writing is really universal. And it’s gotten worse and will only get worse as people are just less literate.
Even when I hear how people talk about something like say Game of Thrones (which is 30 years old now) you’d think it was this master writer who had perfected his craft. The guy himself refuses to let anyone else ghost write his stuff though he may have many reasons for that. The one thing I’d say is…he can’t really argue that he has some unique writing voice that no one else would struggle to emulate unless we are talking about the incredibly awkward sex scenes that seem written by someone who has never had romantic relations with a woman (at least not one he didn’t pay for) and his fixation on food.
Point being, George R.R. Martin writes at like a 10th grade reading level. What he says is what he means. Not much hidden meaning to any of it. He happens to just have an interesting story and characters that he developed, but the writing itself? Guy couldn’t hold Tolkien’s dick for him to piss.
And that was really before the decline, but you wouldn’t know that by how most people talk about it. When my mouth breather of a middle brother can pick it up with no problem, it tells me it’s pretty barebones writing.
And just looking into this, the quality of writing has been on the decline for a while. And this stuff begets more. The people who grew up reading Martin’s work (or from that era) were already getting simplified writing.
I started following this girl (Pens and Poison) who talks about the decline of literature and specifically how its taught in schools. Basically they aren’t reading the classics. They’re reading modern slop if anything – and I stress if anything – and it shows.
This generation of writers stands out because it’s an obvious escalation.
Getting through high school and college I learned you only have to read the first sentence of every paragraph and everything in quotes to get through a shit book fast. So, lessons from shit people are forced to read in in high school may have bled into general reading habits.
The post was scheduled correctly, It missed. I don’t know why, but WordPress is asshoe sometimes.
Happy Anniversary and Birthday RJ!
Happy anniversary and birthday!
🎉 🎈🥳🛸👽
Happy birthday!
I only catch about one out of every 20 Glibflicks, but someday I will go through the backlog.
Happy Birth Anniversary, RJ.
You are still a young man, younger than my kids.
I watched a few minutes of your choice. A little different than my experiences.
Thanks for your efforts and the efforts of all those that put the Glibs together, every day.
Indeed, Happy Burfday and anniversary. 60 eh? What is that in broccoli headed alien years?
Not much of a movie guy, but I enjoy the write up and reading people reactions.
I’ll try to put up at least 1 reply to boost up that comments/post/year. Is that 2 time normalizations? per week per year?
It’s the only easy stat I have. And it does track engagement, which has been going down until this very year.
Engagement is down site wide sadly. It was a small community from the start and people have naturally trailed off with time. And there’s no real pipeline of new members unless it’s word of mouth from people already here. And how many people do most of the people who post here really know who’d come here and fit in politically and then also kind of gel with the general vibe?
But Glib Flick is the part of the site that I enjoy the most. No pretensions from the creator, brings their own unique interests to the table and shares them with the group and always good natured about it all.
I’m not around as much on Thursday nights due to real life bullshit but I remain glad that you didn’t stop producing it. The comments may go down over time, but it’s inevitable sadly.
Yeah, looking over the list I missed many old favorites. But caught a lot of new favorites.
Happy Birthday you crazy cabbage headed alien.
Is that the reporter from Death Race 2000?
Yes. Many of the Paul Bartel crowd are in this and also Death Race 2000.
Death Race 2000 is in my top 20 movies of all time.
Mary Woronov — Didn’t know her. Still don’t, but found this: She’s credited as “Welfare Person” in ‘Dick Tracy,’ which is a really underrated flick. Kinda ahead of its time. And I gotta say, with no other real reference, peak Madonna. *mwah*
Happy upcoming bday, Sir R.J. ThreeScore! I’m only 1.05 behind ya!
Thank you, whippersnapper and others who came tonight!
Mary Woronov is great. Her son just wanted a Pepsi!
I was classmates with The Kid from “Dick Tracy”, who even at that young age was still probably the smartest person in Hollywood LOL
Alert! Both links result in “unsupported format” for me.
This makes me sad.
It’s weird because the link says “xlsx” but it comes down only as “zip” no matter what I do.
And a “zip” that won’t open.
xlsx is a zip file with particular contents. What happens if you change the extension?
OK it works if you right-click on the first link and use whatever “save as” command your OS offers.
It saves as xlsx and even macOS can open that.
👍
You, sir, are a very dapper looking alien robot sex maniac.
Congrats on 5 successful years.
Also, happy half-way-to-120-years-old Birthday 🎈🎂.
Emptying their tank and the end of 26.2 mile effort, R.J.’s coming into the finishing line… and ya just put the flag away and drop an unannounced DOUBLE marathon?! Damn. That’s cold.
Borderline related: When I was 13, Dad forced /challenged /bet me and Cameron $100 to walk home from Rockport, IN, a 25 mile walk back to my house. It was mid July. Less than a half mile from home, Cam kinda bitched out and stopped. Well. I didn’t, so I *did* abandon him there. I got back and maybe an hour later, Cam opened the door to my place and just fell inside, door still open. Then-pup Scooter was so consoling! Just licked him for the salt for like 30min.
I got paid $100 w a side bet of $25 if I could actually do it. Cam only got $50, IIRC. Cops stopped us once, thinking we were runaways. (Today’s money? $197.82. Oooh. $247.27 after winning the bet. Damn!)
Nobody tell Ev about the 360,
Please don’t. And it’s a scam anyway. On you! Gotcha!
(…huh? …oh, shit. uh. What about 360? ‘Common’ number. for a reason. I fear i’ve mis-mathed somewhere. I got an XBox in 2001, freshmen in high school. Halo was game changing. Never got the 360. That one?…..)

To be honest, I would expect a denial regardless of what happened, so this doesn’t really illuminate beyond telling me there was a rumor of a fatal brawl which I had not heard.
How many pregnant 3s?
All of them. Even the trannies. It’s a miracle resulting from the incredible amount of jizz nesting inside of them melding together to achieve the impossible.
Sort of like the Glibertariat.
I’d wager that the leadership on that ship is fuming right now. The spouses back home have no idea how much trouble they’re going to cause for those guys. They may be going home, but it’ll be a bit like when Alexander the Great turned back and his men gave a sigh of relief only for most of them to die as he made them march through the Gedrosian desert.
“This movie would not have had the impact it did without the Ramones. Nobody else on that list could have pulled this off. ”
I don’t think any other band could have pulled it off.
“Blitzkrieg Bop” was another song in our “The Man Wons” cover band in Korea. Perfect song for what it is and what it’s trying to be, but not albums I’d listen to start-finish. Very much in the ‘have to grow up with it’ vein, The Ramones.
They were “my older brother’s favorite band” if any of my older brothers were into that music.
Just a bit before my time.
I still love the title track they did for “Pet Sematary”, though. Much better than the actual movie, which was a turd.
My older brother’s favorite band was The Get Up Kids, so yeah, they became mine until high school or so. I haven’t listened to them in forever. I imagine some of it holds up, but they’re not great musicians. I bet Something to Write Home About would get me just cuz I know them so well. I’m sure I could still ‘sing’ ’em, not hearing them in certainly over a decade.
Huh! Guilt Show’s a good album. Hadn’t thought about this. *hand up* I promise that isn’t where my band name, “Guilt Kick,” which became official on tour and on the two EPs we put out, came from. It must’ve been on my mind, and apparently no one in the band thought the title the way I did, of ‘a persistent, personal feeling or trend of regret.’
I forget what they said it ‘meant’, but it wasn’t what I had in mind.
Never heard of that band but I like some of their contemporaries like Mineral. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And I’ve never heard of them, but they toured with Jimmy Eat World, and I think we ‘all’ know who that is.
*double shrug*
I’ve heard the name but don’t know them.
The genre is not a focus for me so my knowledge is sketchy at best.
‘We’ all know ’em = Late 90s early 2000s, not a great band, two big singles. “The Middle” and “Sweetness.” Kinda radio constants, to their pro and con.
Let’s say this: They are much, much better than the terrible Smash Mouth, and fuck those fucks for making so much goddamn money with “All Star.” Mystery Men is a fantastic film. Dammit. Shrek and many others also used it.
I remember the first one, barely. Not the second one.
No interest in either.
A lot of people say “All of the songs by the Ramones sound the same!”. But often what they really mean is “The handful of Ramones songs that I know all sound the same!” 😉
H5thA, HBD, thanks R.J. 🙂
Had an interesting discussion with a very smart conservative earlier. He is all-in on requiring digital ID for everyone online and ending anonymity. Smart guy. Lawyer. Says there is no constitutional right to instantly communicate with millions of people anonymously. Classic “they didnt have this technology” argument.
The argument grew out of a discussion of Woke and the response to woke and the current state of the electorate (actually electing communists is something we agree is unfathomable for the country we grew up in)
During that discussion I brought up Konstantin Kisin. I know I sent him the original debate that made him a darling of the right, but he had no memory of it.
Which made me think some of you had missed it or forgotten.
Anyway, here it is… a blast from the past, Konstantin Kisin at the Oxford Union debates on the proposition “Woke culture has gone too far”
January 2023
Amazing how far the window has moved even since then.
https://youtu.be/zJdqJu-6ZPo
This is a banger. Well worth the time.
Recognized the name, found this: Born in Moscow in 1982, Kisin moved to the UK as a teenager to attend school. Before transitioning into podcasting and commentary, he worked as a Russian-English translator and interpreter, as well as a circuit stand-up comedian in the UK.
That’s a fun route to take.
The internet is like a masquerade ball where one is free to scatter unsigned leaflets and hand out pamphlets if they’d rather not talk directly. Requiring digital ID is banning the party masks and requiring the handbills be signed.
I’d say the anonymity is part of protected speech and the press.
I’m sorry but that’s r-tarded. Anyone who espouses that nonsense is an enemy of freedom.
100% Rhy. By that reasoning everyone on the radio can be censored.
I’ll bet that guy also thinks the Second Amendment only applies to muskets.
all-in on requiring digital ID for everyone online and ending anonymity. Smart guy. Lawyer. Says there is no constitutional right to instantly communicate with millions of people anonymously.
Agree. Just like there’s no constitutional authority for the state to require digital ID. So by exactly what authority to you claim that power?
The constitution doesn’t grant rights, it’s a grant of limited and enumerated powers to the state. And I don’t see anything that grants the power to require that I have a digital ID to access networks. How exactly do you see a non-enumerated right as implying non-existence, but an non-enumerated power somehow actually creating existence, giving blanket authority for you, through the violence of the state, to require it?
“How exactly do you see a non-enumerated right as implying non-existence, but an non-enumerated power somehow actually creating existence, giving blanket authority for you, through the violence of the state, to require it?”
‘Remember that Social Contract ya didn’t sign? Well, we do, but we’re changing it, and you still have to follow. Capeesh?’
‘What if I un-sign the thing I never signed, or *change* the thing we didn’t agree to?’
‘All your pen are belong to us. And we’re gonna fuck you here. And there. And over there. You know why. Smooches.’
You know, the youth are retarded, but I linked to a video earlier with an actual libertarian take on Enshitification. It’s so, so rare to find a voice producing anything that doesn’t just blame capitalism and greed. And a lot of that stems from the fact that these are people who came of age with the Great Recession.
Not only was that all piled onto the lap of the private banks despite all the government fuckery behind the scenes and politicians using the homeownership rate as a political talking point (especially for the marginalized), but they watched as those banks were then bailed out while normal people were told to pound rocks.
Combine that with Obama taking over George the Lesser…
Progressive was a dirty word under Obama. The word had become so tainted in the generations prior that no Democrat wanted to be called a progressive at that point. But the Republicans appeared so loathsome and free market was such a joke of a concept that they took t wird back.
And really progressives are just like a short jump, hop, or skip to socialists. So here we are.
This is a great pick for your 5th anniversary. It’s such a fun movie. I can’t imagine it with any other band.
Fun fact. I saw The Ramones when they played my college. It’s one of the loudest concerts I’ve been too.
I had a friend who worked in the theatre where they played He saw Joey shooting heroin.
This might actually be a fun question, how many Glibs have seen them? I saw them twice, they had C.J. and Marky in the lineup both times but that counts.
I wasn’t here to get this rolling with a First, but at the end of the day aren’t we all really First?
Well, no. No we aren’t. I’m First. But still…
May Glibflick endure for a thousand years.
“ May Glibflick endure for a thousand years. ”
A reich, of sorts…
Thanks Bro.
Was talking about James O’Keefe as an example of reasons anonymity might be necessary, and shortly this popped up
https://x.com/i/status/2087954844636111066
Weird. They heard me talking about James O’Keefe.
Minnesota stunt – you can vouch for unregistered voters on election day.
Bonus
Retirement home employees can vouch for unlimited unregistered voters.
So… how do they come up with 20,000 votes at 2 am?
Nobody is going to see this. But it explains a lot.

Good morning, Sean, Ted’S., U, homey, and Gdrag, and happy birthday, R.J,!
Morning, GT.
How are you today, U?
However much I griped about being up three pounds, I’m doing all right. I made it to the office with the minimum of fuss. It was cool enough last night that the AC got my room down to a good sleeping temperature. And I got caught up on the work I’ve been fretting over because I’d procrastinated before.
Still don’t have my paperwork to take possession of my new pew, but today’s the earliest realistic day for it to potentially arrive, but not the most likely day.
I’m debating on whether Midon and Mr Todde should get in a physical altercation or merely have words. If they got themselves arrested it would put Jasper in a more awkward situation, which makes the brawl an intriguing narrative option. But I don’t know if it’s out of character.
Isn’t the lesson from the midday post that they need to have a sex scene?
I can see Mr. Todde saying something to set Midon off.
No, Ted, the lesson was that I need to increase the amount of text dedicated to description and action and leave my banter for circumstances that confound people who don’t read the whole book.
Sorry, Sean, it looks all Greek to me.

Is the mini van market that vast?
Happy birthday, RJ!

Chicken and waffles? 🤢
Sounds disgusting.
China did one with KFC that tastes like fried chicken.

Morning, Glibs.
Logically I know at my weight a variance of three pounds is within normal swings due to water levels. I just don’t like to see 278 after having reached 275 🙁
Stick with it. I definitely am carrying water weight after having cake and bourbon last night. I am right there with you.
🥺🤞
suh’ fam
yo whats goody
Happy Birthday!
I have seen this selection many times, Favourite part is Joey coolly relaxed in that convertible, just eating chicken right off of the bone like he is a character on “The Flintstones” LOL
Good morning, Glibs. And congrats on the anniversary and birthday, RJ. While Glibflix isn’t my cuppa tea, I’m glad the content has been there for others to enjoy.

Good morning all!
Morning, NA.
If you could find them, I’d appreciate getting those grips back if you’re not going to use them.
I have them somewhere. I’ll go hunting for them.
Are they Super Grips?
Good morning! I slept in. I am taking the day off and will Zoom tonight. I miss seeing you all.
Good morning, R.J., NA, Grumble, and Beau!
@Bro
THANK YOU!!!
