“OK, since it is Labor Day, the staff is not laboring. Here is an Open Post for the day.”

Can you be your own shabbat goy?

  2. Toxteth O'Grady

I am an atheist and socialist, Bob would have you know. (Um, neither.)

    • Toxteth O'Grady

I will leave youse alone. Got enough problems.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Goodbye if necessary (hope not).

Moj, what’s the ICD code for non-alcoholic wooziness? Rhetorical Q.

I really cannot function. Malingering, my ass.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Weak as a kitten. Bob refuses to drive me, invalid bitchy mother cannot.

        Je m’en fous. Bye.

  3. Gender Traitor

What kind of characters are on that keyboard?? 🤔

(I gather the joke is some kind of gaming thing I don’t get.)

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

(I think the joke is that we are all keyboard commandos at work, and then spend all of our time off on the keyboard, too)

      • Sean

I do not use a physical keyboard after work. So there.

      • Fourscore

No days off for the unemployable

    • Nephilium

I walk with WASD and run with shift!

Reference to the keyboard controls for most first person games (W = Forward, A = Left, S = Back, D = Right).

      • Threedoor

        Anything is letter than QWAP

      • Gender Traitor

Thanks, Mr. Ilium! I figured it was something like that.

    • Threedoor

      Russian or something?

    • Common Tater

I’ve seen AI generated pictures where lettering on things was messed up.

    • rhywun

Germany has QWERTZ instead of QWERTY IIRC.
And yeah, the “after work” pic has the fingers in the resting position for gaming.

      • Nephilium

Huh, I figured Germany would use the AZERTY that I encountered when I was consulting for a company that had a Belgium office. The M and N key being flipped threw me the most.

      • rhywun

Oh yeah I remember AZERTY being France.

      • Pat

I learned to type before I got into PC gaming, so I use the same home row position for both.

    • Sean

Abnormalities in an election? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

      • Threedoor

Mail in ballots are the most secure.

    • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

They’re still on the learning curve. If you’re gonna cheat, go all the way, as in the LA mayoral primary.

    • Ted S.

A demographic that thinks mail-in voting is rigged against them disproportionately votes in person? Color me shocked.

    • rhywun

You’d think they’d be a little less brazen than that.

  4. The Late P Brooks

The world needs ditch diggers, too.

What (or who) goes into the ditch…

  5. Threedoor

I’ve been off work since Aug 11th and have been losing my mind.

Surgery and recovery. Everything went well except the damn nerve block hasent worn off yet and every sensation is fire. It sucks and I’m less than worthless around the house. Sitting around like a blob sucks.

Thanks for you all for keeping me sane.

  6. Sean

Ok. I’m done grilling for the day.

    *sets cruise control*

    • Threedoor

Have you rubbed your eyes yet?

      • Sean

I’ve cut up a whole plate up peppers and they are in the dehydrator right now.

5 mil nitrile gloves work gud.

      • Threedoor

Must be spicy if you need gloves.

      • Sean

        Weapons grade.

      • Threedoor

        Scary.

  7. The Late P Brooks

all other parties gaining abnormally from mail-in ballots.

That’s just the shut-in vote. Nothing to see, move along.

    • Threedoor

I’m sure there is no ballot harvesting in German nursing homes.

When I learned that this classy broad bought two in Switzerland all I could think about was the fraud potential. I’m sure I was wrong about that too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Anand_Sheela

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

All those Nazi’s they found in the Ukraine are mailing in their ballots.

      • Threedoor

I’m sure none of the dead ones are voting.

  8. Common Tater

“A never-before-released 911 call log from the Bexley Police Department, obtained by Loomer Unleashed, reveals new details about the 2019 domestic disturbance at the home of Ohio Democrat gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. Records show it was Acton’s own daughter who called 911 to report that her mother had been “drinking and throwing things and breaking glass.”

The incident occurred while Acton was serving as Director of the Ohio Department of Health, the same position she used months later to help impose statewide COVID lockdowns, business closures, and school restrictions on nearly 12 million Ohioans under then-Governor Mike DeWine. Acton is now the Democrat nominee for governor of Ohio, facing Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, and she is attempting to sell voters on her judgment and leadership under pressure.”

Hmm. A hardcore proggie woman with impulse control problems. You don’t say.

“Socialism 2026 speaker Da’Shaun L. Harrison also said that the deployment of GLP-1 drugs is “fascistic” because the world is “fixated on genociding fat people.”

“This is a structural critique that asks what happens when the conditions produced by capitalism, by public health, by the state apparatus, and by anti-black desire align around a single bodily ideal that leaves little to no room for divergence and punishes any body that does,” he said. “Whereas earlier diet drugs were often associated with vanity or addiction, GLP-1s are positioned as responsible medicine, promising relief rather than restraint.”

Harrison followed up and said that “policing of black fat flesh anchors entire systems of governance.”

“Without a population to discipline, there would be no BMI, no obesity epidemic, and no medical or scientific institutions organized around managing fatness,” he claimed.”

It’s certainly nice watching these ridiculous caricatures sky-lining themselves. I just wish a few more people would notice.

China’s Cultural Revolution shows you what happens when people like that get in power. And they’re aiming for it.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Just once I would like to see one of those in-frame sign language interpreters make the international symbol of jacking off during someone’s speech.

That’s not the international symbol for afropessimist?

What, you mean too much food?

      • B.P.

Yes. Which is why we need to usher in anarcho-communism to starve people for a while.

    • Pat

Da’Shaun L. Harrison also said that the deployment of GLP-1 drugs is “fascistic” because the world is “fixated on genociding fat people.”

Perhaps the only genocide in history where the genociders are trying to make the genocidees live longer.

      Welp.

I hear they have an opening.

  11. EvilSheldon

Happy Labor Day, and also fuck all Neo-communists and their enablers!

In happy news, yesterday I got a line on a possible new place to shoot…less than an hour from my house and with rifle targets out to 1200 yards. Time to start building out a real long-range AR…

    • Common Tater

      An AR in 300 WM?

      • Sean

        6.8 arc

      • EvilSheldon

Probably going to be a 6ARC to start – cheap to load, runs well in a gas gun, and a legit 1000+ yard cartridge.

I love the 300WM, but getting it to run in an AR is a real task. Also, it’s really expensive even if you handload.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

An AR for long range? What, convert it to .308 and bolt action?

      • EvilSheldon

It’s 2026. The .308 is like the .45ACP – completely obsolete for twenty years, except for being mandatory in few obscure Boomer competitions.

Bolt guns are more like snub-nosed revolvers. They still have a role to play, namely ELR and huge cartridges, but they’re definitely a specialty niche.

      • Common Tater

        I wouldn’t call hunting a specialty niche.

      • Sensei

Hey this GenX has two .45s.

If this gun shop that’s pissing me off actually contacts me I’ll have my first 9mm.

When I first bought my .45s everybody was hyping the .40S&W. There is a cartridge I read about all the time. Or not…

      • EvilSheldon

I still pull out the .40 Limited blaster for a match, maybe twice a year. Just making sure I can still shoot irons.

Lightweight hunting rifles are also certainly a use case for bolt guns. I still consider that something of a niche. Also, I hunt deer with my AR.

      • Sensei

I might be “that guy” that takes NJ’s required CCW training with a .22lr Colt Match Target.

There is no required caliber. I think I can get it to fit my OWB holster ok. I just have to make sure I can get it to clear whatever I wear over it for the concealed requirement.

      • Threedoor

I need to do the Idaho Advanced CCW class so I’m legal in Washington. Unless they change their mind and ban that too.

Requires you to fire 100 rounds in class.

When I get around to it I’ll be using the Ruger MKIII

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        “… .22lr Colt Match Target.”

        NOICE!

And, you are right ES, bolts are a niche weapon: hunting, target, plinking…

    • Threedoor

      1200 yards is nice.

      • EvilSheldon

Enough to make me think about a fifty. Anti-material capability is somewhat lacking in my rifle deck at present.

      • Threedoor

When I bought mine I brought it to the “unidentified distance” range on base that was open on the weekends for plinking and practice. I think that range had targets out to about 1200m.

Jerks shut me down because it was a 50cal so my buddies had to find another range to go shoot at. Which was hard in the area. We found one that was 250 yards within half an hours drive but it was weird and downhill. At least we got to shoot and one of the guys little brothers from Jamaica got to shoot the 50 as his first time shooting. That was awesome. Kid had an ear to ear smile the rest of the day.

      • Threedoor

Looks like it’s MWR range 15/16 now and a lot different than it used to be 20 years ago!

  12. Toxteth O'Grady

    Sorry, not done.

Bob, I sent you to Honey Harvest 2022 and got you out of Bumfuck, MI.

Ingrate! You won’t even drive me to a doctor! POS!

    • Toxteth O'Grady

My finger hurts a month later.

He is Mad Libs from hell. Dumb cunt, lazy bitch, dipshit…

      • Toxteth O'Grady

“Why doesn’t TOG reply?” Because she cannot, either emotionally or logistically. I grew up with abuse and am as pleased as punch to find myself back in it. No good deed.

I think I am being brave in saying all this, but I also do not give a crap anymore.

    • Oy the Billy-Bumbler

Ain’t nothing wrong with Manistee, MI

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        So says Jean Shepherd.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I should have left Bob there!

  13. EvilSheldon

The owner and bartender of my local pub have conspired against me. I was not planning on three beers over lunch.

    I’m glad I can walk home…

    • Toxteth O'Grady

      ?

Three is too many for them?

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

I have three beers anymore, and I am phoning “wife, wife!”

    • Threedoor

The right and left in Europe are socialist vs communist.

They never had a moment of liberty between feudalism to collectivism.

    • rhywun

Angela “Let ’em all in” Merkel was also “center right”. After a youth spent being a communist. Oh well, what’s in a label anyway.

  14. The Late P Brooks

Far right, as in de-frocked communists.

  15. R.J.

I wish you all a Happy Labor Day off. I think Swiss is overseas so this particular holiday will pass him by. So I shall have an Old Fashioned for him.
I am having a few neighbors over. Home baked chicken wings, jalapeño poppers, burgers and dogs are on the menu.
    What are you all doing?

    • Threedoor

Flaunting the new pool to the neighbors?

      • R.J.

Maybe a little. My status as an ass-busting capitalist is not something I am ashamed of.

      • Ted S.

STEVE SMITH BUST ASS TOO. AND BY BUST ASS MEAN….

      • Threedoor

If yeah got it, flaunt it!

    • slumbrew

Shopping with the wife before we leave for France 🙄

I’ll be smoking a whole chicken on the grill later

    • DEG

Getting a few things done around the house. I had an Irish coffee this afternoon. I have some more stuff to do. If I get enough done, I’ll be at the gym later.

    • Pat

Meant to text you but forgot: couldn’t get out of the wage cage this weekend, as we have a supervisor on leave and we’re short handed. So I’m checking boxes in spreadsheets and filling out senseless paperwork like a boss.

    • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I scored a Hobart 1612 commercial meat slicer for $100 off FaceDerp Marketplace!

I already ordered replacement feet and sharpening stones for it.

      I see them online for $650 – $1,500. I think I got a good deal.

On Friday I scored about 60 lbs. of 2-3 year old frozen venison for free. Guy was cleaning out his freezer before this year’s deer season. I hand sliced about 10 lbs. into strips, smoked it, then dehydrated it. Heckof a lot cheaper than the chicken liver puppy training treats.

      • Threedoor

That’s cool. The Hobart stuff is nice.
The guy that works with me found a non Hobart slicer several years ago after he made a big butcher table. He had cold room he built in his shop but moved last year. I’m curious if he’ll build another cold room. Shot a nice spike elk last week already and has a second tag for rifle season. He worked part time in a butcher shop and just Knossos out the meat processing. I which I could clean a fish half as fast as he does.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

The venison I got was processed by someone who knew what he was doing. Perfectly cut steaks, no silverskin. I’ve only ever processed my own (I’m a skinflint) and it shows.

      • Threedoor

He’s got a dog so none of it goes to waste.

    Dance, monkeys, dance!

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) slammed President Trump’s recent post where he shared a map showing her state renamed as “New America.”

    ——-

On Sunday, Trump posted a map of New Mexico labeled “New America” after a debunked online hoax spread that he had signed an executive order changing the state’s name.

The map, which the president posted to Truth Social, featured a large “X” over “Mexico” in the state’s name and the word “America” below it. The White House’s official account also posted the image on X.

    Outrage mob, assemble.

That’s fucking quality Rick Trolling, right there. Laser Pointer Exhaustion deaths are rising this summer.

I heard he wants to change the country’s name to United States of Trump’s America, and the Milky Way will become the Trump Way. Is there anything sacred?

  17. Evan from Evansville

Having my first conversation on Hinge. She liked my pic of me drumming in some Korean bar. She’s called our chat “delightful af” and was pleased with our short conversation. She’s cute, looks Korean, certainly is Asian. Profile says she’s a corporate graphic designer, linguist. Actually a bit of real chat.

She just got back in touch with me after we both had busy weekends. Not expecting anything or much, but I’m rather pleased with this development.

    • Threedoor

Do they use the name Hinge in opposition to Unhinged?

      • juris imprudent

You look for that in a strip club, not online.

You think there is a difference, JI?

Modern dating sounds awful, it was bad enough for me in the late 90s early 2000s and internet matchmaking had just started.

        ^This.
Evan, I would take you to a bar and find you a mate. My powers have not declined with the years.

      • Evan from Evansville

You’re not wrong. I’m mostly experimenting to see what they’re like. I won’t venture into the bar world until I kinda have a job and my own place. I wouldn’t feel comfy with myself.

However, once I do, or if you’re providing cozy accommodations, I’d love for you to be my alien wing man, cuz, lemme tell ya. I’ll skooch the gooch of many martian creatures. (I’ll settle for squirrel right now, but not the weaselly ones.)

    • Pat

All my sub-30 single friends tell me Hinge is better than Tinder, but still doesn’t result in many actual encounters. Then again, we all know each other from online gaming, so the app itself may not be the problem…

I hate to indulge my worst tendencies, but I was so fucking delighted when that insane bitch got busted on her fabulism and had her name destroyed. I had spent 10 years reading the paeans and hagiographies in all the business porn mags, beginning about 28 seconds after she left Stanford and was crowned the Millennial Steve Jobs. Anyone with 4 functioning brain cells could see clear as glass right from the get-go that her company was built on a mountain of fresh, steaming horse shit, but anyone who called it out got smeared as a backwards he-man woman hater. Every stupid motherfucker whose money she flushed down the toilet got exactly what they deserved.

      • Threedoor

I watched one video of her and her head movements and the terrible lighting in the video set my spidy sense off.

CNN on AfD: Mass deportations and separate schools for refugees: The far-right AfD’s vision for Germany
(Lots of talk about the party being nasty before getting to AfD policy)

“At the heart of the party’s manifesto is an overhaul of migration policy, including the immediate deportation of irregular migrants, the expansion of mass detention facilities and the return of non-ethnic-German citizens to their country of origin – a policy it refers to as “remigration.” Trump, Germany style. Good for them.

Edu: “The party’s manifesto also calls for segregated classes, with refugee children taught separately by other refugees, and teaching designed to convey the message that staying in Germany is temporary.” (Natch, they used a pic of three white kids.)

“AfD politicians in Saxony-Anhalt want school lessons to focus on the periods of German history before World War I and World War II, and less on Germany’s Nazi past, in line with the party’s stated desire for Germans to move beyond guilt and focus on national pride.

“More Bismarck, less Hitler,” is how Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, the party’s regional cultural spokesperson, summed it up in an interview with German media.” <– Good thinking. "Make Prussia Great again!"

Last graf: "Even though AfD only emerged in 2013, polls say that if national elections were held today, it would win most votes."

I always request to work on labor day because I’m so fucking libertarian and First that I would never take off for a commie holiday. Take the labor theory of value and get fucked.

    • Mojeaux

I have always defended stores being open on Thanksgiving and Christmas/Eve, etc., because even if you WOULD otherwise celebrate, you might need the money, you might be alone and need somewhere to go, you might hate your family.

I have a paid day off for the first time in 24 years. It is very strange. Then again, having a W2 job is very strange.

      • Fourscore

I used to give 2 days off for those that worked voluntarily on holidays. Never had a problem finding volunteers, usually single people.

Saved paying double time as well.

      • Evan from Evansville

“Then again, having a W2 job is very strange.” You said it, soul sistah. Docu Agenting(!!) next week will start my… fifth W2 of the year! Ooh. Matches a career high! The second one, Meijer, had me working in three different ‘areas,’ starting in the gas station, so it feels like I’ve had more jobs these last eight months.

I’ll be beyond pleased if this one works out. Looking it up endlessly, apparently “Monotony” is the biggest reason for people quitting, which, uh? Well, people be people. Stable monotony sounds wondrous.

      • Pat

        Stable monotony sounds wondrous.

I prayed for stable monotony. God answered. Now, like a grumbling Israelite in the desert, I find myself bored and restless. But I’m still eternally grateful for Good Ol’ Boredom. Beats a lot of alternatives.

      • Mojeaux

I prayed for stable monotony. God answered. Now, like a grumbling Israelite in the desert, I find myself bored and restless.

This is why God made hobbies.

      • Pat

This is why God made hobbies.

True. But I’ve pretty much lost interest/no longer enjoy any of the things that used to grab me. OTOH, I’ve got mountains of shit I still need to get done before winter hits, which will take up substantially all of my non-working time anyway (and I probably still won’t get my car painted before the temps turn).

      • Mojeaux

But I’ve pretty much lost interest/no longer enjoy any of the things that used to grab me.

        Take up spelunking.

      • Pat

My curiosity piqued, I searched “caves in west TX.” Looks like I’m only a couple hours from the Caverns of Sonora.

      • Evan from Evansville

Well, a stable, monotonous job that pays what it does will provide me enough money to get my own place. Managing the Peru Tribune was enough money, kinda barely, but nothing like stable, nor monotonous. (Big regret, resigning.) Since then, after a stint training for phlebotomy and getting fired twice from that, I did two contracts for remote standardized testing, a long spell at Walmart and then at Meijer’s station, and then inside to get some money while looking for something of substance… which led me to escrow processing, which I got fired (let go?) after three weeks on July 3.

There was an after school part-time gig in there, somewhere, too. (Probably something else, as well.) So ‘monotonous and stable’ is a tremendous improvement for me, both in scheduling and in sanity. This isn’t an end goal, but supposedly they’re big on internal growth. Regardless, work is what you do to afford play. (I gotta figure out what ‘play’ is in America. Such a different vibe.)

Getting my own place and saving up is my primary goal. Dating is a fun idea, but I’m trying to cultivate friends, or groups, or kinda anything. Hard to date when you’re 39 and live with your parents. So. Clear goal. Coming back with a TBI after 12yrs away is an odd sand trap to be stuck in. This may be a perfect little toehold for the moment. *shrug*

      • Pat

So ‘monotonous and stable’ is a tremendous improvement for me, both in scheduling and in sanity.

Oh believe me, I understand. I came within 3 or 4 days of having to throw all my shit in storage and move in with a friend when I bought my current place, and then spent 2 years working 3 simultaneous jobs before a few small promotions allowed me to winnow it down to 1 full time and my long-term side hustle. I got so used to the busyness that it feels like I’m doing nothing now.

This isn’t an end goal, but supposedly they’re big on internal growth. Regardless, work is what you do to afford play. (I gotta figure out what ‘play’ is in America. Such a different vibe.)

Same boat, in terms of trying to figure out what the hell to do outside of work to make work a means to something other than survival.

” trying to figure out what the hell to do outside of work to make work a means to something other than survival.”

*fist bump* Just got off the phone with Munch. She’s quite, quite keen on meeting up in Cedar Rapids. I ‘love’ her (as a person) but can’t imagine being in a relationship with her. Dream world? We’d each have our own wing in a big place. I wouldn’t at all mind have many interpersonal experiences with her, however.

I miss the expat community. Wow, that was an effortless, omnipresent part of life. ‘Everyone’ was your friend. Truly remarkable, especially juxtaposed with the bubble culture we’re happily bouncing in. Onward! Ready your steed! Through the bubbles! *slowly, gas escapes, whistling*

That’s how you get all those cool mutant powers. As long as they don’t me that damn Dazzler bitch, I’ll adapt. I take that back. I’d get good at her powers and make a fuck load of money doing special event entertainment.

    • Pat

What do you think the side effects will be revealed to be later?

Whatever they are, they really can’t be any worse than Alzheimer’s. Should I ever find myself in that predicament I’ll be taking a one way trip to Oregon.

My father had Alzheimer’s. Fuck did that suck.

I do hope this drug works, and we can end this shit.

      • R.J.

Agreed. My father died from stroke-based memory loss though. Not plaque based. That is my fate.

    • Threedoor

I’m 99% convinced that Alzheimer’s is a disease of abundance and caused by glucose/carbs.

Will the drug have side effects? Absolutely. Will those side effects be worse than the disease? Probably not. Would eating right be better for you in the long run? Yeah but you can’t unwind the clock and there is just about a zero percent chance that nursing homes are going to pull their heads out of their asses and divorce themselves from the American diatecis association and do the right thing as far as their meal plans are concerned.

      • UnCivilServant

So you’re in the “type 3 diabetes” camp?

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

“Alzheimer’s is a disease of abundance and caused by glucose/carbs.”

From my experience with my MIL, it’s not. Thin as a rail, ate right, exercised (physically & mentally) etc. etc. Still got it. Died no longer recognizing her daughter.

My belief is that it is an infectious disease. Partly after trillions of dollars spent trying to find a cure they’re no further along than when they started. But to advocate for a disease organism means the grant dollars dry up, so they continue to pour billions down the rabbit hole.

      • Evan from Evansville

IANAD, but I think Alzheimer’s is pretty much your brain decaying with age. *shrug*
Keeps it simple. More terrifying, perhaps, but simple.

      • UnCivilServant

Simple, but wrong. The distribution doesn’t fit a “just getting old” cause. There are other elements at play.

      • Threedoor

UCS I had only heard the “type 3 diabetes” thing recently and think it’s a cop out.

Just like some people groups are more susceptible to alcoholism I think some people are more susceptible to forming Alzheimer’s plaques.

Is it a biological vector? I don’t think so but look at how long stomach ulcers were thought to be stress induced and then they turned out to be viral. Same with cervical cancer.

I’m putting my money on the issue being glucose.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Dry mouth and night sweats or forgetting your own name? I think I’d risk it.

      • UnCivilServant

Suppose it’s something like ligiment liquefaction leading to extremly painful movement?

      • Threedoor

Sounds bad but how many of those symptoms do the demographic that gets Alzheimer’s already have? And had they forgotten they had the symptoms?

London’s Muslim mayor celebrates deal to have historic St. Paul’s Cathedral host nightclub raves
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan: “Fabric. St Paul’s Cathedral. Name a more iconic duo.
Bringing together these two institutions will create a one-of-a-kind experience, pairing world-class music with one of our most special landmarks.”

BBC: “St Paul’s Cathedral has signed a four-year deal with the London nightclub Fabric to stage music events inside the building.
Under the partnership, Fabric will be the cathedral’s exclusive partner for such events until 2030. The first concert is due to take place on 29 October, although the artist has not been announced.
Fabric co-founder Cameron Leslie called the deal “an extraordinary and unexpected coming together of two very different parts of London.”
Sandra Lynes Timbrell, the cathedral’s director of visitor engagement, said she hoped a “carefully curated programme of exceptional concerts” would draw people who had not visited before.”

St. Paul’s Cathedral history: “There has been a church at this location since 604 A.D., meaning there has been over 1,400 years of continuous Christian worship here. When the Vikings burned the first church down, they rebuilt it. The current church building – the fifth since the fall of the Roman Empire and the formation of Anglo-Saxon tribes into a common English identity – was completed in 1710 after the previous Gothic cathedral burned in the Great Fire of London in 1666.”

Humorously fitting it would be in St. Paul’s Cathedral. The apostle who had to admonish the church at Corinth for engaging in orgies and pagan sacred prostitution in the temples.

      • Chafed

Sacred prostitution? I haven’t even heard of that. What was it?

      • Pat

Basically a pagan practice/rite, mostly attributed to the worship of Aphrodite, where prostitution is engaged in as a form of religious ritual, with some or all of the proceeds benefiting the relevant deity. That’s most likely what Paul was referencing in I Corinthians 6:15-20.

Zeron is standing up for the little guy

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has created an office to assist organizing efforts among private-sector workers.

The new outfit, the Mayor’s Office of Worker Power, puts another democratic socialist stamp on the nation’s largest municipal government and stands to endear the mayor to the many labor unions that play a prominent role in city politics.

On Monday — in a nod to Labor Day — Mamdani signed an executive order creating the office, which he said would funnel more resources to working-class residents while cutting down on abusive employment practices.

“The Mayor’s Office of Worker Power will make sure workers have a seat at the table before exploitation becomes a crisis and violations become routine,” Mamdani said in a statement. “We’re connecting workers to their rights, to each other and to the organizations ready to stand with them.”

The office will be led by Tony Perlstein, a former longshoreman and organizing director with one of the largest unions in the country: the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, commonly known as UAW.

Workers of the world, pay your dues.

    • rhywun

make sure workers have a seat at the table before exploitation becomes a crisis and violations become routine

As if the city government isn’t already entirely beholden to labor unions. No idea what this ridiculous initiative is papering over… even more grift I would guess.

  27. The Late P Brooks

Perlstein will report to Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, who during the City Hall briefing drew a distinction between what the new outfit will be doing compared to actual labor organizations that perform the practical work of unionizing.

“This office will not be directly going into workplaces and organizing workers,” she said. “We are not taking the place of unions or worker centers and others who do that work.”

    Union rules don’t allow it.

I got pretty damn ripped off a few drags. May have puked. Thinking back, odd how little memory I have of that. I thought I had more. *quizzical face*

Without work, a pack lasts me far longer than a week. At my dorm at IU, some students made up a policy where we’d share smokes unless someone had three or fewer. I still followed it, and do now, but I didn’t want to take or sign their (no-shit) fucking SOCIALISTS OATH about it and why sharing is caring and other bullshit. I don’t think folk ostra-smoked me for this, but I don’t remember running out. Collins Dorm was fucking awesome. Got shingles there after taking LSD the second time, though. You’d be surprised, depending on what state you live in and the market demand for labor. Even in Missouri, a dyed in the wool Red State, most blue collar labor jobs outside a national/international corporation(from what I’ve seen personally) stoped testing for weed a few years ago. If they are in fact doing tests for weed, it may be held as a strike against you in the future but it doesn’t seem like an immediate barrier to employment.

      • Evan from Evansville

*shrug* The company says it online they don’t (“But we’re a drug-free workplace and can’t be..” blah blah) and the order says (“1. You know what, man? I appreciate you. Always positive, always looking onward and upward. Appreciated muchly, Trig. *big hug* Certainly blessed by family and upbringing, but so many folk are always bitching or complaining about really trivial shit. It gets in their skin to where it becomes the Default setting, and it’s pretty much never advantageous. I really, really, really don’t think many/most people would be as chipper as I am after The Incident. I imagine, if they lived in the first place, they’d be dour, unpleasant folk, afterwards.

‘You always find more of what you’re looking for?’ Always look on the bright side of life. *whistle whistle* I’m very pleased I naturally find little things to amuse me throughout.

My next sub is kinda my nadir, but I still think it’s upbeat. (Stubborn COVID escape in quarantined Korea in ’20? That’s pretty fun.) This is the last of two ‘downers’ to start my little project to establish setting and character. BIG THOUGHT: This semi-memoir, a screenplay idea has caught my mind as the easiest way to tell my story. I think I have a fun twisty little machination where I can turn the ending into a fun, fictional, mad-cap caper (or similar) and it would still remain within the narrative I’ve created telling my actual story. I sincerely don’t think it’s a bad idea. I have other things to address first, but it’s certainly on my mind.

*uplifted face* I’d kinda be in big trouble without this place.

Toxteth, at this point you are better off telling us outright how we can realistically help you in detail or just stopping this. Yusef is an old bum. If he is living with you, it’s presumably in your house (or your Mom’s). We have no idea what’s going on. You asked for someone from the site to show up not having any real clue as to what the hell is going on just the other day.

Who exactly is supposed to drive/fly out to San Diego and what are they supposed to actually do when they get there? That’s the only concrete thing you’ve asked for.

You can leave, or you can kick Bob out at this point. Or leave yourself. But if you are staying in a situation with actual abuse, especially if the cops did show up, then it’s kind of on you at that point.

I don’t think anyone here even knows exactly how you became entangled with Bob, but just cut the bum out of your life and he’d probably end up homeless. What the hell are we even talking about at this point?

AI writer taps AI photographer for illustration, AI editor says good enough.

  32. Brochettaward

I know most Glibs are older and not quite in touch, but I can’t emphasize enough that as a species we are at the lowest point in the relations between the genders in history. At least I have to think so. Young people, especially men (for all the talk heehawing coming from the female side) are tuned the fuck out. It’s a straight out majority of single men who are just like why bother with modern woMAN. But it goes beyond that. When men don’t view the woman in society as worth a damn, they don’t just stop pursuing the woman. They aren’t going to do a lot of other shit that society benefits from or straight up needs to survive.

If this gets talked about in the media, it’s in terms of what’s wrong with men. They just love porn and video games. I mean, those things help deal with it, but the left has completely ruined young woman and it seeps into the 30-40 range at this point.

Even the ones who aren’t explicitly “feminist” have still grown in an environment where equality is the norm. They may reject feminism as an official ideology, but they tend to pick and choose from it rather than being anything resembling traditional woman. You can find some girl who calls herself a traditionalist and a Christian who will still start talking about how she’s your equal. Not because she’s being treated as lesser, but because she’s just as obsessed with that idea as the blue haired harpy.

Modern woman are mostly transactional, entirely delusional people with full rights and none of the accountability to go along with it. And men are nop’ing the fuck out of that.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Being an equal in society is one thing, being placed on a pedestal in the legal system is not. There’s also the fact that the various dating apps allow the best looking ten percent of guys to get ninety percent of the pussy. The market is broken.

      • Grumbletarian

With the various dating apps, one can often find that the profiles can be less than fully accurate. People will want to emphasize the good over the bad, of course, but when you get “Oh, that picture on my profile was from five years ago before I gained 70lbs. If that’s a deal-breaker for you, then you’re the problem, and not me for using an out-of-date picture to seem more attractive” then it’s easy to decide finding the needle in the haystack isn’t worth the effort.

      • Grumbletarian

Along the same lines, I was once sent a random nude from someone on a dating app. Here’s where my brain went:

She’s hot, if it’s really her, but how many other guys on this site have this pic?
Is this the start of a scam attempt?
If I respond, aren’t I just saying ‘hey, babe, dtf?’ What does that say about me?

        So I didn’t respond.

The Google AI is afraid to even give an answer on it, and the top search results related to it are a bunch of dopey leftists shitting on Trump’s claims on this. No one says some parts of Europe don’t allow some mail-in ballots like America used to, but when voters who are perfectly capable of going to the polls are using it that’s a different beast entirely.

Probably still available but a quick search isn’t pushing it to the top, that’s for sure.

I still have my 3-hour commute to the office.
Im not scheduled on a project this week (well I kinda am but not till tomorrow) so I try to reduce the overhead burden.

Kinda rough going so far today?

Yes. Mostly little things. Saving grace being it’s a remote day so they didn’t pile on top of a commute.
