Tuesday Morning Links

The Astros had their best day in a while yesterday. They didn’t play and they fired their GM. The Indians are back in a wild card slot, although it’s arwally a crowded race for the last two WC spots in the AL with a bunch of teams hovering around .500. The College transfer portal now appears to basically be a pipeline from NFL teams to LSU. And I think that’s all I’ve got for today, so I’m moving on.

What’s chaotic about having verifiable ballots? I’ll let the AP explain their logic, because I don’t understand it.

I don’t think these people understood their job. Which comes as no shock.

I’m shocked! Shocked that it wasn’t 50 instead of 30. Great job keeping the streets safe, big blue city prosecutors.

Oh, lighten up, people! It’s a friggin’ costume, not a racism.

I fail to see the problem here. It’s not as if he’s gonna sell anything to children. But maybe the parents would feel safer if their kids walked to school and had to step over fented up bums.

What kind of dumbassery is this? The worst kind, unfortunately.

Well, it’s a start. But I’d like to see another zero added to the end of the number.

Why is this being held in the US? Based on what I’ve seen, it should be in the UK, Germany, or Malta.

I hope he doesn’t end up homeless. Or worse, go back to the dull middle class life he claims to have grown up in. I’m kidding. I actually do hope he ends up homeless.

What do they mean “before Burning Man?” Seems to me it just kicked off early this year.

Here’s a nice mellow tune for you. It was among his best. And here’s one with a little more pop to it. Also among his best. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Tuesday, dear friends.

      Lexi Belle was in Avatar?

“That effectively restarts the legal fight over the order in an incredibly compressed timeline, with initial ballots scheduled to be sent to North Carolina’s overseas and military voters in just over a week, on Sept. 4.”

Aren’t military absentee ballots not mail ballots?

    • Common Tater

“What’s chaotic about having verifiable ballots?”

Well, it looks like they found three retards all using the same word. So that’s the talking point.

    • rhywun

AP is playing the usual DNC game of FUD.

Military absentee ballots have never been controversial and are not going to be affected here but they will pretend otherwise in order to advance the cause of permanent Democratocracy.

    • Gustave Lytton

There’s no functional difference between military ballot and mail in ballot these days?

There shouldn’t be absentee ballots for anyone, including service members.

      • Gustave Lytton

Nor should they be provided in any language other than English.

      • R C Dean

I assume military ballots are delivered through military channels, not the post office.

Which means they, theoretically at least, can have a chain of custody.

      • AlexinCT

“Nor should they be provided in any language other than English.”

So much this… You can’t speak English, our language, then I am sorry, but you shouldn’t be here voting.

      • Gustave Lytton

Not here. They’re mailed and returned via mail. Or emailed or faxed. Yes, those are valid options with a signed secret ballot waiver form.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

If you are working overseas in a job required by the US gov’t vote at an approved Gov’t location, and the results can be phoned to whomever is necessary for tabulation, just like any other polling location. No one else can vote outside a polling location! Period. Everyone knows what the day for voting is, it has been the same forever, make your vacation plans round that, not the other way.

(I will possibly accept mail in for people who have a medical reason, provided the doctor signs off on a witnessed affidavit.)

    • The Last American Hero

This is the same democrat logic on display last week that conflated a miscarriage with an abortion and was worried women would be thrown in jail if their body failed to carry a child to term.

    • Threedoor

Military absentee ballots are regular absentee ballots.

The individual has to apply for them from his state. Thank god the unit dosent have any involvement with them.

My county auditor threw mine away one cycle because she didn’t like my signature which was the same one on my DL. My guess is she was just being a good democrat.

  3. UnCivilServant

Why is this being held in the US?

Because Pan Am was an American Company? 🤷‍♂️

    • sloopyinca

By that logic, if somebody smashed into a FedEx truck in London, they could hold the trial in the US.
      That can’t be it.

I’m not certain how that affects possible jurisdictions.

I wish they’d have explained why it was being held in the US. I’m genuinely curious.

    • UnCivilServant

      • Gdragon

And although I didn’t mean for this to happen, of course there is a perfect response to my comment about my ex.

Now they’ll just stop using black kid models for Halloween costumes.

      • rhywun

        It’s the only sensible response.

    • Fourscore

Isn’t the idea of a Halloween costume to pretend/laugh at something that is obvious not accurate? Can little black girls not dress as a Snow White/Cinderella? Are gorilla costume off limits? Was I mocking real life cowboys when I strapped on my six shooter cap guns?

I daresay there were burned cork faces around in my neighborhood at H’ween time.

    • Chipping Pioneer

      I’m quitting this thread.

    • Pope Jimbo

I’ve told this story before, but it fits here perfectly…

As a kid, I was going to go trick or treating with a black kid when we were in the 3rd grade or so. My dad drove me into town to go door to door. On the way we picked up my buddy.

He was wearing a sheet and my dad said “nice ghost costume” and my friend said “NO! I’m a spook”.

It was years later before I realized why my dad kept laughing all night.

      • Gdragon

Once as I rode home in a Haitian-driven cab while on the phone with my ex I relayed to her that “I am in Harlem right now, not too far from where we saw Gorillaz”. I meant The Apollo Theater 🤦

“Residents gathered at a park beside the daycare on Monday, August 3, to protest the planned opening, while an online petition called on officials to stop the business from setting up at the location.”

I looked at several articles, no pictures of the protest. Could just be a few old white women.

    • Rat on a train

Maybe they just need to proclaim a protest like how modern filibusters work.

    • rhywun

Left-coast elites. I am sure they look and behave exactly like you would imagine, and yes, they would probably rather set up a facility for violent homeless junkies next door than a purveyor of evil totems.

    • ron73440

Could just be a few old white women.

We get ICE protests some weekends in downtown Suffolk VA.

It always looks like a few residents escaped the old folks home.

    • EvilSheldon

For about the past year, a handful of dimwitted white boomers have been waving U.S. and Ukrainian flags and hanging signs on the Great Falls overpass over I495 – a spot calculated to cause the worst possible rush hour delays when people slow down to read their slop.

This morning, it was, “$40 BILLION DEBT TRUMP GETS RICHER.”

We truly can’t means-test Medicare and Social Security quickly enough.

      • Ted S.

If only the debt were just $40B.

      • EvilSheldon

Something like that. But you get the general idea.

The idea of a bunch of retirees publicly complaining about the debt while collecting SS and Medicare payments, makes me long for a return to fire hoses, pickaxe handles, and attack dogs.

      • Nephilium

        ES:

Someone should get the useful youth idiots to join the protests holding flags about abolishing SS. They can put the SS as little lightning bolts too, the boomers may think they’re referring to ICE.

I say we declare California an asylum and round up all the people protesting things like this, or supporting murderers, or ranting about invisible kings, and confine them there. They can entertain themselves by banning electricity and agriculture, and protest to their little baby minds’ content, and the rest of us can enjoy a little peace.

      • UnCivilServant

Can we use a smaller geographic area, preferrably one isolated better. Like an Island? We should ship them all to Hawaii, and blockade the islands.

      • (((Jarflax

I mean we can, but there are apparently millions of these loons, and the largest clump is already in California, so I was going for efficiency. Maybe just wall off the part from LA to SF and have a retard drive to push them all there?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Why would we send them to someplace nice? Maybe a island off the coast of Alaska, where they could see Russia from?

      • Threedoor

I vote Puerto Rico and Hawaii UCS.

Going to need more land mass for the shear amount of fools.

    • Pope Jimbo

Yup. It isn’t like the Left is protesting Target for other reasons too.

A national coalition made up of millions of teachers, school staff and other union members has launched a boycott against Target in protest of the retailer’s decision not to publicly denounce the surge of immigration enforcement officers in the Twin Cities earlier this year.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), in coordination with the AFL-CIO, announced the campaign in recent days. The organization also ran a full-page advertisement in the New York Times on Sunday.

I’m puzzled. Target gives tons of money to the proggie NGO’s. What will they say when the money dries up?

      • rhywun

In case anyone was still under the delusion that teachers unions give a shit about students as opposed to radical leftist politics.

      • AlexinCT

“In case anyone was still under the delusion that teachers unions give a shit about students as opposed to radical leftist politics.”

It is not just the unions. The entire public school system is nothing but marxist indoctrination at this point. And they are robbing property owners to pay for their own children and grandchildren to be brainwashed to hate them and the country.

      • The Last American Hero

When the fuck will Target wake up and turn off the spigot?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

That would take critical thinking skills, Jimbo. These are teachers, they never leared that in school!

    • Pope Jimbo

We always called it the Stars and Lies. It is amusing that they are trying to pretend that it has ever been a fair and independent news rag.

The only useful thing in it was the standings of the various sports leagues.

      • AlexinCT

“We always called it the Stars and Lies.”

Yes. Goes back to before the 80s..

I’m guessing the unit got cases of them to hand out and they ended up in a dumpster.

  13. R C Dean

I fail to see the problem here.

I am heartily sick of the performative primitivism behind the kind of totemic thinking on display here.

I gotta wonder, though, how many of the people protesting this “for the children’s safety” are making excuses for the woman who strangled her three kids.

    • trshmnstr

making excuses for the woman who strangled her three kids.

I’ve been unplugged enough that I didn’t know about this woman until my wife brought it up and she explained about the women who are supporting her. I was blown away.

Dafuq is wrong with these people? IMO, supporting this lady is incompatible with civilization. Sure, it sounds like husband and psychiatrist were asleep at the wheel, at very best. However, that in no way lessens her culpability in a triple murder. Anybody supporting this lady should lose their franchise.

      • rhywun

I guarantee it is the same broken people who support various other recent murders that the left is celebrating, from that health insurance executive to Kirk to festival Jews.

I suspect the paper itself was a bit more circumspect but who knows these days with the garbage that can pass for medical research. And I’m sure the authors were more than happy to have a press release.

When a group of YMCA campers needed to be rescued during the wildfires on our northern border, it was Canada who immediately helped. Not a word from Trump.

Sure the fire the campers were stuck in was in Ontario, but when has a mere border meant that the US can’t intervene unilaterally?

The Greeks learned this lesson more than 2500 years ago. Every great empire collapsed because of two things. Massive welfare, and unlimited immigration. Rome died because the elite imported foreigners to replace the people that because of wealth, whether they had too much of it or were getting free shit, lost their edge to do the hard work. Eventually they ran out of money to support the giant welfare state. And bingo. They at least had a few hundred years to unwind it and then came the dark ages.

“Do you really want to have this conversation? Are you circumcised?” El-Sayed bluntly asked the “Jesse Watters Primetime” host, after arguing that the government shouldn’t get involved in transgender medical procedures for children….

Undeterred, El-Sayed argued that it’s a “problem” that Watters believes the government should step in to outlaw sex change surgeries for minors but not circumcisions.

“I’m just saying that yes, circumcision is surgery on a kid’s ding-a-ling,” the former public health official told Watters. “So if you really want to bring that up, you can … I just think you guys are really selective about these things.””

On July 7, the district announced that, as part of the settlement, it would pay the $4.22 million to the Labor Department, which would in turn give the money to the foreign workers. It also stated that it was barred from participating in the H-1B visa program for two years — meaning it could not renew the teachers’ work permits during this time.

Visas except for tourist should all be revoked and the programs shut down, the books swept of all these loophole programs, and a single “Intent to immigrate” program set up where the potential future resident must show they will be of a benefit to the US, wants to assimilate to American culture, and does not intend to bring in incompatable cultural traditions. People on this visa will be ineligable for any for of government assitance for the entirety of their lifetimes.

People who are not legally in the country should be summarily executed after being positively identified and status confirmed.

The first impression begins long before the front door, with a sweeping driveway approach leading to a waterfront custom cut stone home. The foyer rises three stories, traced by floating staircases with custom wrought-iron railings. A wood and leather paneled library offers a quieter counterpoint, complete with a private second-floor terrace above the water, while the two-story family room brings the house back to a more relaxed scale, with soaring ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. The gourmet kitchen is supported by a walk-in pantry and butler’s pantry, while a breezeway leads to a sunroom surrounded by windows and water views.

The house continues upward rather than simply outward. Every bedroom functions as its own private suite. Beyond the bedroom level, a third floor introduces a conference room, bunk room, and recreational room. The walk-out lower level is built for recreation, with a game room and bar, a home theater, a gym with steam room, and a cabana.

Outside, covered porches, balconies, terraces, and patios extend the architecture into the landscape. A swimming pool sits beyond the house, and over 200 feet of private waterfront runs along the property, every room across the rear enjoying uninterrupted lake views across five acres.

Innsbruck Avenue does not rely on a single grand gesture. Its distinction comes from the accumulation of them, room after room, level after level.

Red Lake Reservation is a “closed reservation,” which means all land is held in common by the tribe. No one owns private property. It also means the tribe has control over non-residents.

If desired, outsiders can be expelled, or their movements limited on the reservation. The tribal government has full sovereignty and has the right to limit who can visit or live on the reservation. As a result, very few non-members live at Red Lake.

I’ve heard stories from fishing buddies about being “encouraged” by the tribal police to be off the rez by dark during fishing trips there.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided on Tuesday that Bulgaria violated the right to respect for private and family life by demolishing a camp inhabited by Roma in August 2023, on the outskirts of the capital Sofia.

Fifty-six claimants brought the case to the Strasbourg court, arguing that they were not involved in the process that led to the demolition. The judges found that Bulgaria violated Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, but did not find sufficient evidence to condemn Sofia based on Articles 3 and 14, which prohibit inhuman treatment and discrimination.

The claimants only gained access to the demolition order after it had been executed. The ECHR decided to award each claimant compensation of 10,000 euros, and Bulgaria will pay a total of 18,000 euros for costs.

    • PieInTheSky

what is the official glibertarian position on bowfishing.

      • Pope Jimbo

I’ve never seen bow fishermen go after tasty game fish. They are always shooting carp or other trash fish. So I’m not real sure that you care about waste.

Bowfishing regulations in Minnesota apply only to rough fish and common carp. Game fish such as walleye, bass, and northern pike cannot be taken by bow under any circumstances on standard inland waters.

The bow fishermen here also have to pay for a fishing license, so they are helping pay for the management of the fisheries. More power to them.

      • EvilSheldon

        Depends on where and what.

Lionfish are fair game – and apparently pretty tasty!

      • PieInTheSky

      • Nephilium

As Pope Jimbo said, I’ve only seen people bow fishing for shite fish like carp and [Lake Erie] sheepshead. They weren’t released, they were culled from the lake because they were garbage eating.

Although my dad did tell tales of a [black] neighbor when he was growing up who would walk up and down the breakwall (where there’s a large contingent of locals fishing), collecting sheepshead. Spending is not the problem

Critics often argue that because federal revenues have remained “roughly flat” as a percentage of gross domestic product while spending has risen, spending is the culprit. Data proves, however, that tax cuts enacted this century are driving this fiscal imbalance.

    Let’s consider two critical points.

First, without these tax cuts, debt as a percentage of GDP would be declining. Put simply, it is a mathematical truth that had the Bush and Trump tax cuts never been enacted, the U.S. debt ratio would be declining indefinitely.

    Assume a can opener.

long-term spending projections are actually lower than anticpated
A reduction in expected spending growth is a cut!

  30. The Late P Brooks

That means that spending changes have improved the long-term debt outlook relative to expectations, making tax cuts responsible for all of the worsening fiscal gap relative to the last time the United States had long-term fiscal stability. It doesn’t make sense analytically to blame spending increases relative to the old outlook that were previously fully budgeted for when they actually came in below expectations.

The root cause is clear. And, importantly, our current path is unsustainable — it hurts the economy, driving up interest rates and dragging down real wage growth.

    Ow, my hed.

This was literally the prompt he told me about when I asked how he liked it. Says he sits there with his hands in his lap and doesnt touch the controls at all.

“We can see that voice and touch are becoming more and more common. Maybe it’s a generational thing as well. You would see that a lot of the younger generation, maybe 45 or below, they’re tapped into these technologies at a faster pace, using voice, using touch.

“They want things done quickly and they’re multitasking. And we have to keep that in mind. That’s how customers are evolving. They are multitasking.”

Exactly. And actually driving the car is not their top priority.
