Thursday Morning Links

The Patriots, namely Drake Maye, choked that game away. With their schedule, they really didn’t want that to happen. The great Barry Melrose has passed away. The US Open semifinals are all set. The Astros lost again, but thankfully so did the Rangers. And Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Stuttgart all won their UCL openers. And I guess that’s it for sports.

I’ll believe it when I see it. The first step would be to start voting with the other side instead of just talking about how bad his own party is.

Well, no shit. Anybody who says otherwise has been in a coma or is profiting from the changes.

Go woke, go broke? I’m not sure that tells the whole story, but I guarantee you it’s a big part of it.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Politically, at least, they’re indistinguishable.

These people ought to just shut the fuck up. They’re willingly turning into pariahs.

Suck it, New Jersey. Now turn the tables and bankrupt the officials trying to pull this nonsense.

“Is about to” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. In fact, I’d go so far as to call the claim an outright lie.

Rules for thee, but not for me. It makes more sense when you google image search the city council leader.

I wonder if he’ll get a reprimand. Just kidding. He’ll probably win an award and get promoted.

Imagine falling for a Nigerian Prince scam. Oh it’s the California government. No wonder I’m not surprised.

Here’s a nice mellow song. Well, kind of. It’s mellow compared to this, anyway. But they’re each fantastic. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Thursday, dear friends.

    Groundbreaking shit.

  2. Common Tater

“saw Dylan Mulvaney in a sports bra”

    This is something that happened?

    • The Other Kevin

Oh yeah. He was in a Nike ad prancing around in a sports bra and leggings. Very cringe, as the kids say.

      • Common Tater

I looked it up. More like a tank top. Didn’t even have tits then.

  3. Not Adahn

For those of you not in contact with academia:

When someone is described as a “lecturer,” especially when there are multiple campuses given, the person is a non-tenure track part-time employee. Employed because they can’t even hire Mexicans for a lower wage.

    • (((Jarflax

Maybe making smirking calls for someone to kill another conservative figure will get him a tenure track position!

      • Not Adahn

IME, once you’re relegated to lecturer you can never move up. Hiring committees are much more likely to hire a fresh PhD than someone tainted by such low status.

      • Ted S.

Now do a map targeting congressional districts.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Yeah, if you aren’t working on a post-doc at least, you are not getting a tenure track.

Adjunct and lecturer are the Home Depot Mexicans of academia.

      • Common Tater

Home Depot Mexicans do real work. You’re not getting an adjunct lecturer to haul roofing tiles.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

You haven’t meet a desperate adjunct.

      • UnCivilServant

The adjuncts I knew had day jobs in their relevant fields and worked as professors for extra money. My Criminal Justice courses were rife with them. The “Policing” professor was a Captain with the Sheriff’s office, the “Courts” Professor was a sitting judge, and so on.

The worst instructors I had were full professors, who ignored their teaching obligations.

      • rhywun

I had a great math lecturer who taught HS during the day.

      • The Last American Hero

Teaching is for adjuncts and grad students.

  4. rhywun

Most feel there is less unity now than at the time of the attacks,

    Yeah, no shit.

And it’s entirely by the design of Marxist ratfuckers gaining even more control over everything.

    • (((Jarflax

Less unity kind of understates it. People forming into tribes in preparation for the US turning into super Beiruit.

      • Not Adahn

The US no longer values freedom, only control in the name of “safety.” And control of the Total State is far too important to let enemies gain it. Tribalism is the only sensible outcome.

      • The Other Kevin

This. They created a surveillance state, now we’re just flip-flopping over who gets to control it. Spoiler alert: It’s neither side.

“speakers that will highlight the progress on high speed rail to-date”

Those should be very short speeches.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

And those will be longer than the free rides on laid track.

    • DEG

      “The right people got paid”.

      Yeah, that is short.

  6. Rat on a train

We’re bringing the party to the iconic Salesforce Transit Center, which will be one of the hubs of the California High Speed Rail.

Isn’t that the transit center that is a glorified bus terminal without any rail connections?

    • rhywun

Correct – it is a bus terminal. There is no rail connection there.

  7. rhywun

spending much of the past decade injecting left-wing politics into its brand

I seriously do not understand why any company gets political like this – left or right. It is basically shitting on half your potential customer base.

  8. Necron 99

Nottingham City Council leader Neghat Khan said residents had been left feeling intimidated by individuals wearing balaclavas, skeleton masks or similar coverings without any “legitimate justification”.

Left unsaid, the V for Vendetta mask.

      • UnCivilServant

This is what I get for checking my spelling.

      • Necron 99

Crap, I should have known that.

My mom had five acres of pasture land, two good friends, one was English, one was a pyrotechnician, so she put on a giant party for the English ex-pat community (which I did not know how large it was) for a few years on Guy Fawkes day. The parties were epic, complete with a professional fireworks display, bonfire, and burning of the Guy. Years later I am still reminded of the event through random meetings in town or old friends that have fond memories. It was the only time I saw her Labrador quit begging for food and go sleep in her dog house while food was still afoot, with lots of little kids to mooch from. I am still uncertain if it was too much food, or just too British.

    • Tonio

“legitimate justification” reeks of the WNBA “sincerity” argument.

This was brilliantly played, and the politicians fell for the trap which the protestors set for them. Now every single protester is a trans Muslim woman. And there was much laughter on one side, and foot-stamping tantrums on the other.

      • (((Jarflax

Criminal laws with exceptions that boil down to “The Government approves of this person’s motive” are the perfect addition to our in no way tyrannical police state.

      • Not Adahn

Once they declare they’re Muslim, they’re eligible for the death penalty for apostacy.

  9. R C Dean

I’ll believe it when I see it.

I keep telling people, Fetterman talks a good game, but he votes exactly the way he is told. He hasn’t bucked leadership a single time that it matters.

    • DrOtto

We need someone to replace Susan Collins if she loses.

    • DEG

I keep telling people Fetterman was once conservative.

He grew up in Central Pennsylvania’s York County, the son of an affluent insurance firm partner. As a teenager, he describes himself as a “football-playing meathead.” His family members were all Republicans, so he was a conservative too, though “not in an aggressive or angry way.”

      He’s returning to his roots.

    • The Last American Hero

It has been speculated that after November, he may align with Team Red to become a key swing vote in what could be a deadlocked senate, which would give him a lot of stroke.

      • DEG

What you did there, it was seen.

  10. Common Tater

“Police and community protection officers in Nottingham will have the authority to demand balaclavas and “skeleton masks” be removed where they have reasonable grounds to believe the coverings are being used to hide someone’s identity for criminal or antisocial purposes….

Exemptions have been made for religious, cultural, health, work, weather and personal safety purposes.”

    Sounds reasonable.

“Yes?” she enquires with a knowing smile, “Can I help you?”

“I was wondering,” whispers the man, “Are you the one who gives the hand jobs?”

Trump implored listeners to “pretend that I’m on the ballot” so he can “finish the job” —presenting a stark choice between “radical left communists” and a continuation of his populist agenda.

Glad to have brought them together. At least I won’t be taking care of her anymore (and Bob is not keeping up either).

“many think that the U.S. would unify as it did 25 years ago if another terror attack from overseas were to happen today”

No. 9/11 was when I saw the Left really jump into overdrive and it was the beginning of the media becoming explicit and overt in their hatred of all things “traditional America”; prior to that it was a lot more subtle. Further, Bush sucked so badly and the ridiculous Iraq debacle so horrifying that it paved the way for Obama who has set us on the current socialist path and turned ideological disagreement into a rift the size of the Grand Canyon. If another attack happened, it would only further that divide. Frankly, I see nothing fixing it at this point.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yep, we’re screwed. A house divided against itself and all that.

    • (((Jarflax

The left hates everything the right values, and after decades of hiding that fact they opened up about it. Now the right largely hates the left as well. After 9/11 the unity lasted only a few weeks before there were media stories about how all the patriotism was kind of over the top and maybe we should consider what faults of ours had ’caused’ this. I see no chance for what I think of as Conservatism to win. It isn’t even a contender anymore. Trump is a nationalist populist, not a conservative, that becomes more obvious every day.

      • Q Continuum

If by “conservatism” you mean “classical liberalism” then that horse left the barn long ago. The closest thing we got in modern times was Reagan and even he sucked by a lot of measures. Before that you’ve gotta go all the way back to Coolidge and then antebellum before that. People don’t like liberty, reason or personal responsibility. It’s just too damn hard!

At this point I’ll just settle for anything not commie and not Islamofascist.

      • R C Dean

Best we can do is corruptocrat anarcho-tyranny.

We needed someone in his position to have balls and call it what it was. A religious war.

      • R C Dean

        Yup.

And I gather that is a bad translation. “Religion of submission” is more like it. Doesn’t really sell the whole “Oh, poor muzzies. Mustn’t backlash when they kill us” narrative, though.

Without reliable figures about which racial and ethnic groups live where, it would be far more difficult to create congressional and state legislative districts to reflect those groups’ share of the overall population.

Strangely, there is no Constitutional support whatsoever for such pandering and gerrymandering. Sorry, the left.

I can hardly wait to see the inspirational scores of the students at this new Minnesoda school!

At the recommendation of a workgroup, the school board voted in 2024 to turn Benjamin E. Mays from an International Baccalaureate focus to an Afrocentric program. Benjamin E. Mays was chosen for the Afrocentric school because of its location in the Rondo neighborhood and its high African-American population.

It follows the introduction of various other cultural programs in St. Paul Public Schools in recent years, including a new East African magnet school, Karen language and culture programs, and a Hmong language and culture middle school to complement the popular elementary school.

The school plans to hold a regular morning assembly for Harambee — the Swahili word for “all pull together” — to start the day with high-energy singing, dancing, and chanting.

Students will also be inducted into four “houses” representing different eras of African history: the Empire of Ghana, the Kingdom of Great Zimbabwe, the Empire of Mali, and Kingdom of Kush. The school’s teaching philosophy and curriculum is grounded in Nguzo Saba — the seven principles of Kwanzaa — as well as eight Black historical consciousness principles.

Can you get more authentic African cultural roots than by using Kwanzaa? I also like the incorporation of “Houses” from Harry Potter into their curriculum. I wonder if they will have a sorting hat of some sort too.

    • rhywun

This is literally Marxists tearing people apart but the clueless left will celebrate and the idiot right will be too terrified to complain.

      • Pope Jimbo

Not Marxists, Black Separatists for the win!

American black separatist Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 during the aftermath of the Watts riots as a non-Christian, specifically African-American holiday. Karenga said his goal was to “give black people an alternative to the existing holiday of Christmas and give black people an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society.”

OK, maybe black separatists and Marxists are the same thing.

Any time I hear people using Kwanzaa as some sort of “authentic” African bull shit I laugh. It is a 100% made up thing. For fuck’s sake, it isn’t even celebrated in Africa!

        Practice outside the United States
Other countries where Kwanzaa is celebrated include Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, and Jamaica. There have been calls in Barbados for Kwanzaa to be recognized as a national holiday.

In Canada it is celebrated in provinces including Saskatchewan and Ontario. Kwanzaa week was first declared in Toronto in 2018. There are local chapters that emerged in the 2010s in provinces like British Columbia, where there are much smaller groups of the diaspora, founding members may be immigrants from countries like Uganda.

While you definitely might be right that these particular people were thinking of Harry Potter they actually did this same crap at the local public school that I attended from ’81-’85. The “Houses” were the names of 4 different Canadian cities where our school’s namesake had lived and/or made his mark when he was alive. I think this type of set-up might be an old thing.

      • (((Jarflax

Rowling did not invent the idea of ‘Houses’ she borrowed it from common usage in British boarding schools.

      • Gdragon

I suppose that it is an easy way to divide up the students into smaller similar groups for certain things. Although the school that I switched to just used the alphabet when they needed to do that sort of thing and it seemed to work out perfectly fine without any “houses” or labeling.

We did the same to the Vietnamese, Cambodians and Hmong who came here in the ’80s. I feel so sad for them now.

A nonpartisan congressional ethics office cleared Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar of wrongdoing over financial disclosures that briefly made her look like a multimillionaire. The Office of Congressional Conduct voted 5-1 to recommend the allegations be dismissed, the congresswoman’s team confirmed.

Omar’s communications director, Jacklyn Rogers, gave KARE 11 this response to the vote:

“The Office of Congressional Conduct delivered an overwhelming vote to dismiss any allegations against the Congresswoman.

“From day one, we have been clear: the Congresswoman is not a millionaire. This vote clearly underscores that the Congresswoman did nothing wrong, and attempts by the far right to manufacture controversy and distract from the facts are pathetic and nothing more than a desperate distraction from their own failures.”

    • UnCivilServant

Extradite her to Somaliland along with the other members of her family so that they might face justice.

      • Pope Jimbo

One of the most damning things about Omar is how petty her thefts of tax dollars have been.

When she was a simple Minnesoda legislator she only grifted $2,500 in speaking fees before being shut down.

Give Nancy her props, she made bank while in office.

Laurie Moore, 47, a 13-year veteran of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, is accused of abusing the controversial license plate reader system to run searches on her ex’s vehicle around 3,000 times, as well as four additional license plates hundreds of times each, Syracuse.com reported.”

  22. Pope Jimbo

Cali is so cooked. Can’t even finish a simple high speed rail line? Look upon Minnesoda’s great works and despair!

The Mesabi Trail now stretches 165 continuous miles from Grand Rapids to Ely. The milestone comes as the trail celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The project is managed by the St. Louis and Lake County Regional Railroad Authority, which will host a week-long celebration beginning Saturday, Sept. 12,to commemorate the anniversary.

Since the story doesn’t mention it, I’ll enact some labor for the journalo. The Mesabi trail is a bike path from Northern Minnesoda to North Eastern Minnesoda. I have no idea what the entire project costs, but in 2021 they got $1M for a 5.5 mile section between McKinley and Biwabik Minnesoda

    • R C Dean

At $200K/mile, that would be $33MM.

Not sure how much that is in learing centers, though.

      • UnCivilServant

You could get 16.5 Standard or 15.7 Metric Learing Centers out of that.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

If you stacked the learing centers, they would be four giraffes tall.

    • Pope Jimbo

The best number I could find was that it cost $20M to build those 165 miles of bike trail.

    • Rat on a train

But will cyclists use it or will they continue to ride on roads?

      • UnCivilServant

They will continue to ride like salmon against the flow in the oncoming lane.

    • Drake

The cool bike paths are old rail ways that were torn up and paved over. Shouldn’t cost that much.

      • UnCivilServant

But then they couldn’t harass the motorists and signal their virtue for not having an engine.

      • Pope Jimbo

Most of that trail is along old rail beds.

You flunk Gubbment 101 if you think simply paving an 8ft path along a rail bed would be cheap though.

      • Rat on a train

Then there is the rare trail to rail proposal.

huge misunderstanding of american humor and everything but here’s my proposal for the 9/11: two manhattans with a shot of fireball dropped in, and you drop a third shot of fireball in someone else’s drink halfway down the bar

    Which was in response to:

Went to Ireland and CONFIDENTLY ordered two Irish car bombs and the bartender let me know that was EXTREMELY offensive and equivalent to ordering 2 9/11s 😭😭😭

    • Pope Jimbo

      I 100% like this idea.

After drinking them, you should be required to take off your shoes to go to the bathroom.

No, you pour it into a Moscow mule cup, and scream “Fireball won’t burn copper!”

    • Nephilium

I would suggest using two of the tall double shot glasses to represent the towers. Arak should be a component of the drink, there should be a flaming component, and I would think a variant of the paper plane would be appropriate as well.

The firebombing of Dresden would need to be a Blue Blazer that gets poured onto the bar.

For Nagasaki/Hiroshima, I’m unsure if going green with Midori for radiation is passe or not.

The Great Chicago Fire is a shot of Malort with a flaming grain alcohol floater.

There’s already a Hurricane and Mudslide drink.

Yes, I have thought about this for a while, and have kicked around thoughts of an article in the past.

      • EvilSheldon

The Great Chicago Fire is a shot of Malort with a flaming grain alcohol floater.

Needs to incorporate milk somehow (for Mrs. O’Leary’s cow). Maybe submarine the flaming shot into a half-pint of milk? It has Malort in it, it’s not like it could be any more disgusting…

      • UnCivilServant

No, Sheldon – serve it with a well-done steak.

      • Ted S.

        That’s a crime against steak.

        Flaming Dr Pepper?

Dr. Pepper would need to be for a Texas disaster I would think. For a San Francisco fire, a pousse cafe with a flaming float. Alternatively, add a pebble or two of dry ice on the side to be added for an earthquake.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Well, what ever the drink, it has to be Flaming!

“Hold that gun, bitch! Go ahead and shoot me!” Dribin yelled.

The deputy ultimately opened fire as Dribin advanced. The suspect was struck and suffered injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening. Deputies provided treatment at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to a hospital.”

    https://nypost.com/2026/09/09/us-news/california-man-allegedly-charges-sheriffs-deputy-with-sword-in-wild-bodycam-footage/

    Drugs may have been involved.

    • EvilSheldon

I’m not saying that a gun always beats a blade…but that was about the stupidest possible way to make it happen. Particularly with a sword that looks like it was bought from a gas station…

      • R C Dean

Whether a gun beats a blade is very situation-dependent.

      • EvilSheldon

Very. In force-on-force training with Simunitions and training blades, I’ve beaten some guys who went right for their gun, with a 2″ fixed-blade trainer. The catch was, we were both in the front seats of a car for the training evolution.

A good rule of thumb is, if you draw against someone who’s within arms reach, it’s not your gun anymore. The other guy gets a vote, too.

      • ron73440

Very. In force-on-force training with Simunitions and training blades, I’ve beaten some guys who went right for their gun, with a 2″ fixed-blade trainer. The catch was, we were both in the front seats of a car for the training evolution.

In that situation if I was the one with the gun, first thing would be to get out of the car.

Or was it moving at the time?

      • R C Dean

What I have seen and experienced in training is that mindset is probably the overriding factor. One example, probably not uncommon for gun on knife scenarios:

If you draw your gun to control the other guy (very common*), and he has a knife in hand and is within say, two or three long steps, maybe 4, you will lose because in the time your brain shifts from “control him” to “kill him”, he has closed the distance, moved your gun offline, and begun to stitch you up.

*most people, when they draw a gun, are really using it to keep the other person from attacking (or perhaps fleeing) – to control them. Without the training and mindset to have a mental trigger set that goes off automatically (“if he does X, I kill him”), you have to shift gears and that takes a surprising amount of time.

    • ron73440

He then allegedly confronted the deputy and charged toward him.

    Thoughtful analysis

But for as much as Kirk was revered on the right, he was reviled on the left, facing pushback for comments disparaging immigrants and transgender people and questioning the qualifications and capabilities of women and Black Americans. He also amplified conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and falsely claimed the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent.

The criticism did not faze Kirk, as he visited campuses across the U.S. to debate his positions at “Prove Me Wrong” events that were central to the image he cultivated for himself as a defender of free speech, free markets and limited government. It was the same type of event he was taking part in last year when he was assassinated at Utah Valley University.

He was not any of those things. He merely projected an image of himself as such. There is no reality, only narrative. There is no truth, only message.

This is what they really believe.

The big thing that the media and the left (same, I know) get wrong about Charlie Kirk is that he was not necessiary political in nature. He was a Christian apologist. They can’t understand that his love of liberty came from that. They only focus on the politics as to diminish his actual mission.

“It is now time to stop acting surprised that our warming planet keeps getting warmer. This is occurring exactly as forecast by scientists literally decades ago,” Texas A&M University climate scientist Andrew Dessler said in an email. “The interesting question is not whether we will keep breaking heat records (we will), but whether we’re going to do anything about it or just stand there while the climate train runs us over.”

    Spoiling the party

Each year on the anniversary of Sept. 11, politicians of various stripes join victims’ families for a commemoration ceremony in downtown Manhattan, putting aside partisan beef and pledging to “never forget.”

    This year is different.

President Donald Trump is skipping Friday’s 25th anniversary ceremony at ground zero, reportedly because he wasn’t given an opportunity to deliver remarks. Vice President JD Vance plans to attend instead — and stoked outrage last week by suggesting he’d use the occasion to ridicule former President Joe Biden, who’ll also attend despite his battle with cancer.

Meanwhile, Republicans and the relatives of some victims have demanded Mayor Zohran Mamdani stay away, with GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman encouraging 9/11 families to turn their backs on him during the ceremony.

Those rebukes stem in part from Mamdani’s connections to figures like Hasan Piker, a political commentator who said “America deserved 9/11,” and others who’ve minimized the attacks or blamed U.S. foreign policy. Some of the backlash against the city’s first Muslim mayor has been tagged as Islamophobic.

Before being elected mayor, he spoke publicly about the lasting imprint of his aunt choosing to stop wearing her hijab on the subway, fearful of the anti-Muslim bigotry that became more prevalent after the attacks. He’s also long spoken critically about how the NYPD surveilled Muslims after 9/11.

We mustn’t lose sight of who the real victims were.

Don’t believe the auntie story, there was little to no “anti-Muslim bigotry”, and whatever he is implying about the surveillance of Muslims after 9/11 is a complete fucking lie.

That POS can fuck right off.

Trump is the only living current or former president who won’t be at Friday’s memorial ceremony in Manhattan, which will be attended by Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Biden.

Mad King Donald spits on the graves of our honored dead.

Given how eager the MSM always is to frequently point out that New York hates him, I can’t really blame him.
