A little postscript about my travel travails:
This is the first time I’ve flown into ALB on Delta with gunz. When I checked in at DTW, the put a special tag on my bag. When I got to ALB it did not show up on the baggage carousel. It had been removed and held until they could verify my ID. Ok, I appreciate that they’re preventing my guns from being stolen but it would have been nice if they had told me.
What I did NOT appreciate was that the decided they weren’t just going to hand over “weapons” to their rightful owner, they fist ziptied my suitcase closed with some sort of reinforced strap. And surprisingly enough, removing the closure wasn’t trivial. It defeated my kitchen shears though my tin snips worked. I imagine there’s probably some technique involving a punch/screwdriver/chisel and a hammer that would have also worked, but I didn’t experiment.
The zip-ties are a Delta policy since some asshole shot up a baggage claim years ago. One of the many reasons I don’t fly on Delta – I like being able to strap up right after I collect my bags. It’s not like the Uber to my hotel is guaranteed to be safe…

I’m sure you have all dealt with this…. someone who can rearrange reality to suit the moment. Reorder events to make themselves look good, add or delete inconvenient facts… just make up a new narrative.
And the big impact is the part where they fully believe their fabricated version. In re-imagining the past, they lay down a new memory that feels every bit as real as any other memory.
These people make fantastic liars. Because they believe the lie is the truth.
This is why so many of these folks become politicians, or corporate leaders.
It took me decades to come to grips with this reality. I had mostly confronted this in arguments with a significant other, a situation where digging to get to the bottom of a conflict and resolve it is important enough to invest the time and pain to confront the problem.
But then I had a president of a company that I worked for who would, as we called it, “believe his own bullshit”. We would come up with a version of events that we could sell, and he would go out and sell it with absolute confidence.
I later would be talking to him about the topic, and he would tell me our spun version. The one I personally helped craft. So one time I called him on it…. and he got pissed! It turns out, he would take our story and make it into reality in his head. He sold it so well because he truly believed it.
Total sociopath.
We talk about this often in terms of eyewitness testimony. How unreliable it can be.
But we dont often tie it to this idea that going over a memory, retelling it, being interviewed on it repeatedly will alter that memory, make it stronger and add false details, or maybe even completely change the facts.
Sunny Hostin clearly believes her story. So much so that even when confronted with contemporaneous reporting that contradicts every detail that she offers, she believes it confirms her story.
Which is a long way to go to say I really feel sorry for her husband. Because you know she does that shit at home with him and there is nothing he can do other than shut up and let her have the win, or leave and file for divorce.
