I had it last week. It was an irritant for almost the whole week.
It always seemed that I’d catch something on the plane.
Flew to St Croix, spent a week sitting in the car to stay warm while everyone else was swimming. Flew back and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Other trips always seemed to end up with a cold of some sort. I blamed re-circulated air.
On the flight there, I head a kid a few rows back coughing the whole time. That was unnerving.

Pat: I’m glad that’s what I thought it was. Ben Gibbard sometimes tries too hard, but he’s a very good songwriter. I really like Death Cab. I think it’s funny the band and The US Postal Service had to come to an agreement about the name, and IIRC it was agreed to, somehow, and the Postal Service album was available on the USPS site.
I like some of that album but I don’t remember this track at all. 🫤

I never got all that into DCFC. I know I’ve listened to Transatlanticism a few times, but I never end up keeping it in my library. Gibbard can definitely be hit or miss, and his shtick can wear thin, but Give Up is just perfect in its pacing and length. Quite possibly the greatest sadboy/breakup album ever written.
Dntel actually did (mostly) all the production on the album, and Gibbard wrote and recorded all the vocals. My understanding is they wanted to call the project The Postal Service because they were mailing DAT masters back and forth to each other after completing their respective portions.

Let me see, • The Photo Album (2001) is great, Transatlantacism, ’03, was mid high school and just perfect perfect timing. Plans is also a really good album, but he is starting to get a bit full of himself. But, likely their best work? What Sarah Said, Follow you into the Dark, Crooked Teeth IIRC is my favorite.

New Hampshire has a competitive U.S. Senate race between Pappas and John Sununu. How do you know it’s real?
You can start with the polls. The RealClearPolitics average gives Pappas a 6.5-point lead, which is significant but not overwhelming. And the most recent poll is from NYTimes/Siena, rated by Nate Silver as one of the top three public polls in the country, and gives Pappas just a five-point lead.
Then there’s private polling from campaigns and political organizations spending money on candidates and needing real data, so they pay for very high-quality polls. Multiple sources have confirmed to NHJournal that their polls show the race is in play.
Speaking of spending: for people too smart to trust public polls, there’s the political adage “Money talks.” And it’s saying Republicans believe Sununu is a legit contender. According to data compiled by political researcher Rob Pyers, Republicans have outspent Democrats in this Senate race by more than $13 million.
Well I’m sold. The wizard prognosticator who accurately predicted the media’s First Black Hope would win against an ill tempered octogenarian warmongering manlet has spoken. Here on the ground, I’ve noticed Sununu is running a much better campaign than Pappas. Pappas, at least so far, seems to be phoning it in as if it is something he’s got. Now, to be fair, I think Pappas is more likely to win. But the Sununu machine is very good at getting votes. And John Sununu is running a much better campaign and doing a better job of public speaking than he did way back in ’08 when he last ran for Senate.
Oh I don’t doubt it the numbers, I just have a pathological need to shit on Nate Silver whenever i hear his name mentioned. He’s been resting on the laurels of calling a really easy election marginally more accurately than every other polling outlet for damn near 20 years now, and it irrationally pisses me off for some reason.

Not wanting to upstage the dreaded man-cold, but here goes. Did my first round of chemo last Thursday, a boy howdy was it an ass kicker. I’ve done chemo before for lymphoma, but this was twenty times worse. Aches, chills, nausea, runs, nausea, aches, fatigue, malaise and nausea. Infusion itself was a marathon session, they pumped saline, drugs, chemicals, and and more saline for eight hours. The next day I was pretty run down, then felt better Saturday. Sunday it all came back to me screaming with vengeance, [que Judas Priest] when the steroids wore off. I am “working” from home today, hoping to get back in the office tomorrow, we shall see. Not sure I want to do three more rounds of this shit.

Oof. Sorry. Mine is in capsule form with no side effects at all. It’s not “working” right lately though, so they are bumping up the dosage soon.
Yesterday I happened to come across the total amount billed to my insurance provider year-to-date and almost fell out of my chair.
How long have you been on it?
My mom went through 2 rounds of only semi-successful chemo, but then was placed on an EGFR inhibitor (which her oncologist needlessly simplified as “the chemo pill”). Tumors shrank and she lived 2 years with relatively little by way of side effects.
