IFLA: The “Ready to Go” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of October 4

by | Oct 4, 2026 | IFLA | 40 comments

Today when this drops I’ll be having lunch at SWAT’s range during the “thank you for working our steel shoot” steel shoot.

There’s nothing to indicate that this will go badly in particular, but this is in general not the best week as the Earth passes between the sun and Saturn Retrograde. Couple that with Venus being in retrograde, it’s not looking good for having a good time. More specific bad signs start coming together on Saturday as Mercury and the Moon start interacting with Venus retrograde, so take special care to keep your personal relationships strong. Or if you were looking to dump someone, do it then. Everything else is like the end of last week which wasn’t great either

WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME THIS GAME EXISTS?

Libra: 3 of Wands – Established strength, enterprise, effort, trade, commerce, discovery.

Scorpio: Strength reversed – Despotism, abuse of power, weakness, discord, disgrace.

Sagittarius: 7 of Cups – Distractions, sentiment, imagination, false promises.

Capricorn: The Lovers – Attraction, love, beauty, trials overcome.

Aquarius: Knight of Coins – Utility, serviceableness, interest, responsibility, rectitude (I didn’t even know the dude!)

Pisces: The Moon – Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.

Aries: The Empress – Fruitfulness, action, initiative, length of days, the unknown, clandestine, difficulty, doubt, ignorance.

Taurus: King of Swords – Power, command, authority, militant intelligence, law, offices of the crown.

Gemini: 9 of Wands – Strength in opposition, delay, suspension, adjournment.

Cancer: 6 of Coins – Presents, gifts, gratification, attention, also a sign to begin whatever you’ve been waiting for a sign to start.

Leo: Page of Cups – News, message; application, reflection, meditation

Virgo: The Magician – Skill, diplomacy, address, subtlety; sickness, pain, loss, disaster, snares of enemies; self-confidence, will.

Fruitfulness, action, initiative, length of days, the unknown, clandestine, difficulty, doubt, ignorance.

Birth and death seem to be the only things missing.

  2. kinnath

Pisces: The Moon – Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.

sounds like a fun week ahead

  3. DEG

    News, message; application, reflection, meditation

Last week was correctly sufficiently shitty. This one looks incorrect as it is not sufficiently shitty.

    • R.J.

Well, I did take a break in silence and finish this weeks’ GlibFlick early. Is that meditation?

      • DEG

        I’ll allow it.

  4. The Late P Brooks

Sagittarius: 7 of Cups – Distractions, sentiment, imagination, false promises.

    That sounds swell.

    • Fourscore

      So, political ads.

I accept!.. the power, command and authority… of the office of the Document Agent at Cox Auto Inc. tomorrow morning! Aug. 3 was my last day as an escrow processor and I got my new job offer Sept. 3. So, as one of y’all astutely observed, yes, their onboarding paperwork process is, indeed, *glacial.*

But the odd semi-vacation is (about) over, and good! The daily grind is good for me. So is making money. New brake rotors and work just cost me $390, a suit I didn’t need was another ~$320, and a new leather bag was $115 to replace my old, fraying one. My life is quite small and all together, those didn’t dent my wallet too much, but it sucks spending money when the reservoir doesn’t ‘magically’ refill itself a bit every two weeks.

I submitted a new post, kinda Part 1 to that story and I need to get started on Part 2 today. It tells the story of my successful return to Korea in 2021, though it also reveals to the reader why this project is coming together. The sub ends on a cliffhanger as the cops arrive to my school in response to a ‘disturbance’ my boss called them in for.

Spoiler: *I* was the supposed ‘disturbance.’

Break up a no-hitter I the 8th with a double.. and get thrown out at third trying to make it a triple?! With TWO outs in the inning?! YEESH! Good Iron Baseball Rule: DO NOT make the 1st or 3rd out at third. Just. Be happy, STOIC(!!) with your double! And a damn CATCHER trying to leg out a triple?! Greedy, greedy, Yankee squealie!

    Trouble

Kristof says that there are several factors beyond the demographic cliff that explain the drop in admissions and enrollment. She also told The Catalyst that families are turned off by the almost $100,000 per year price tag and more students are turning down CC in favor of larger institutions in different parts of the country, like the Southeast, for example.

“This generation of applicants are going to large regional public [colleges] because they have a social scene that small private liberal arts colleges don’t,” President Whitaker said.

There’s somebody who has her finger on the pulse of modern education.

My alma mater- they are accepting more applicants, but fewer of those applicants are enrolling. Because the social scene isn’t up to snuff. That must be it.

    • R C Dean

See, I purposely sought out a small liberal arts college to avoid the social scene at Big State U.

      • Threedoor

I gave zero consideration to scene when I choose colleges.

Spent all my time working and studying anyway.

  7. The Late P Brooks

Kristof says the Office of Admissions is working to make CC more visible, expand their work with admitted students who are yet to commit and make better use of data and software systems to increase application numbers and yield. President Whitaker has also made returning the acceptance rate to under 20% a part of CC’s “Claim Our Space” strategic plan.

But for now, the continued drop in enrollment means that there’s less money to go around for academic departments, athletics and student life this year.

We just need to work on our messaging. The curriculum is perfect.

    Republica – Ready to Go

holy shit haven’t heard this song in ages

    • Evan from Evansville

Shoulda time traveled to the States before your most recent outing: ‘”Ready to Go” was featured as the theme song for the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster at Cedar Point (in Ohio), until its closure in 2021.”

I recall the song so I looked it up. Funny bits of Brit reviewers language in their search for descriptive language: “Rabble-rousing techno/guitar pop from a yob-gobbed young lady known as Saffron .. (she) whelps in the climatic chorus … Pan-European magazine Music & Media found that here, “techno meets rock guitar with strident vocals from singer Saffron, all adding up to a fresh, gritty pop sound which Europe simply can’t afford to miss.”

Dave Fawbert from ShortList called it a “bloody good tune”. (another) said in his review of Republica, that the song is a “good taster from their cocktail of shouty pop, mad bouncy dance and fun guitars.” David Sinclair from The Times viewed it as a “rock/dance hybrid featuring the imposing vocals of Saffron.”

It’s well suited for this purpose: “It is used as the song that both Sunderland A.F.C. and Farnborough F.C. walk out to upon entering the pitch before a match begins.”

We stress independent individuality and critical thinking

I have eight free therapy sessions a semester and my peers have the opportunity to submit a care report anonymously if they fear for my well-being. I am graded on participation, as are my classmates.

    ——-

Our college orientation is a week-long ordeal of community engagement, internal bonding and sharing anxieties. Everything is intentional in a way that makes it so no one’s humanity can be ignored.

Who would turn down an opportunity to be a part of that Borg-like cohesive community?

    • Threedoor

      Eight therapy sessions a semester?

Who would have time for that between classes, study and work?

    • R C Dean

Effing Christ. Is this Longhouse College? That just oozes estrogen.

  10. Sean

“ Cancer: 6 of Coins – Presents, gifts, gratification, attention, also a sign to begin whatever you’ve been waiting for a sign to start.”

Damn right! I know what that means. 🍆💦

    • Threedoor

      Here comes Steve Smith!

  11. UnCivilServant

Okay. So, except for one sticker, I’ve finished the assembly of the upgraded 3D Printer.

I still have to do calibration. But first I need to clean up a bit. All these boxes and parts baggies are going to get in the way.

    😔

    • R C Dean

You, of course, took photographs to illustrate your three part series on this project, yes?

  12. Threedoor

    “sickness, pain, loss, disaster”

Yeah physical therapy starts Thursday. That’s gonna suck.

  13. Gender Traitor

Scorpio: Strength reversed – Despotism, abuse of power, weakness, discord, disgrace.

Does this mean my boss will be in all week?

    • Ted S.

I figured it meant you’re going to be a despot.

      • Ted S.

Have fun despotically trying to force UCS to have good mornings. 😉

  14. Trigger Hippie

Taurus: King of Swords – Power, command, authority, militant intelligence, law, offices of the crown.

Well…I’m about to beat the original Rome: Total War game on my tablet again. Does that count?

    • dbleagle

That is a great game. Which faction are you playing as?

      • Trigger Hippie

Pontus. I’ve gobbled up the Eastern Mediterranean From the Caucus(?) Mountains to the North to halfway across Africa to the South and just recently grabbed up Greece and most of Italy including Rome. Just need to invade Sicily to win outright. I know the battles are supposed to be the payoff but I always find just managing the cities and troops in your ever growing empire more challenging and satisfying. Real easy to neglect some cities while focused elsewhere then poof! Open rebellions that spread like wildfire.

      • dbleagle

I agree about empire management being the real key. Because if you do that right you can prepare for the next campaign 5-10 moves early and don’t need to try and move slow armies.

I usually let the computer run the battles.

      • R C Dean

Since we got the new pup I have not been able to get any gaming in. I was this close (hold up thumb and index finger a quarter inch apart) to finishing a pretty compleat playthrough of Oblivion Remastered (not including the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood this time; stealing and murdering just isn’t my bag).

      • dbleagle

RTW is great for people with constrained time. Each turn is six months long and you can save the game to come back to it later.

      • Threedoor

        Obviion remasterd is pretty great.

I dont like the Dark Beotherhood quests either. I usually hunt them down. And I’m no good at sneaking about.

  15. R C Dean

Prediction (after the bullshit unnecessary roughness call in the Cowboys game):

In my lifetime, I will see pro and college football converted to flag football.

    Hobgoblin-in-Chief

“Do I think that all Democrat candidates are good? No, I don’t,” said Sharon Orella, a longtime Sherwood resident and volunteer at the Sherwood Heritage Center, a historic building in the city’s downtown. “But it’s kind of, better the devil you know than the devil that you don’t know.”

Multiple Kotek supporters in Sherwood said they are particularly wary of electing a Republican governor while Trump remains in office. While Kotek has made her opposition to the Trump administration a cornerstone of her campaign, Drazan has walked a fine line on the president, appearing to distance herself from him while criticizing only his most unpopular actions. On abortion, for example, Drazan has said she is personally pro-life but would respect Oregon’s pro-choice laws.

The risk that Drazan would support Trump is enough for Charles Harbick to reject her.

“I’m not voting for Drazan because she’s aligning herself too much with Trump,” the 67-year-old owner of an antique shop in downtown Sherwood said. “He’s the worst president we’ve ever had.”

Would anybody even bother to vote if Mad King Donald wasn’t on the ballot?

    • dbleagle

Buchannan and Wilson are sad that they aren’t remembered for being craptastic presidents. Jull biden is holding her breath hoping people don’t remember that shit show.

    • R C Dean

Drazan has said she is personally pro-life but would respect Oregon’s pro-choice laws.

So, she’s willing to trim her sails as needed to take power. I’d be excited to vote for her if I was in Oregon.

    • Threedoor

OPB even did a poll that showed Koteck being behind. Granted it was of fewer than 1000 people.
