Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse

Diani and Devine visit Texas.

Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse

Short Subject:  Mr Moocher

Some of you may remember a wonderful film called The Selling which I posted a while back. This is subsequent film effort from the comedy team of Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani. And it is great. I am very happy it is out where everyone can here see it. In case you didn’t see the post for The Selling, here is a direct link to my post, as opposed to just the movie link above.

In this film, Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani play themselves experiencing the apocalypse. It’s a pretty good view of the apocalypse, I must say. I shall tell you nothing else of the plot! I will say that this film wrinkled the feathers of some film critics, as it was “too brutal” and Diani and Devine’s comedy is not sensitive to the needs of snowflakes. Good! This means their film goes in Glibflicks!

Enjoy this comedy, and maybe find some new ideas to prep for the upcoming apocalypse.

Also included, a nice short subject about mooching neighbors. I apologize in advance for the prison camera timer.  I don’t know what is up with that.  Other copies seemed to be short about 20 seconds and were hence suspect – so the prison timer version won.

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary!  Next week, will be… Something.  I don’t know what yet.

I’m diving into the short and then I’ll start the movie.

  2. Count Potato

    *hits play*

  3. Count Potato

The next two should be horror movies.

    • R.J.

It is Halloween. Also the short subject should be scary. Perhaps Gary Busey, Pet Judge? I think there was only one episode.

      • Count Potato

There has to be thousands of horror movies on Tubi.

Aaah! Zombies!! aka Wasting Away was on there, last time I checked.

      • Chafed

Gary Busey: Motorcycle Crash Victim. That’s a horror movie.

  4. DEG

a nice short subject about mooching neighbors.

    That guy is beyond mooching.

    Movie time.

    • R.J.

Yeah, that was extreme. May be the last Columbia short subject for a while. I am switching gears.

  5. DEG

I like how the movie is starting.

  6. DEG

Oh fuck. The Chris Pappas ad where he says he’s writing legislation to truly “Drain the Swamp”.

    • R.J.

Nothing but Medicare ads here. Makes me feel 100 years old.

      • Rat on a train

Get your abortions now before Republicans take over.

        • R.J.

I see a guy with a tray, like somebody selling beers at a ballgame.
“‘Bortions! Get your ’bortions here! $20! Nice quick ‘bortions!”

          • Count Potato

I had that job. Except I sold hot dogs.

    • DEG

And… him again. Same ad even.

  7. DEG

I am amused at how clueless and unprepared these two folks are.

    • R.J.

      It’s well played.

  8. DEG

    Vegan doomsday food. Heh.

  9. DEG

I gotta go. I’ll finish this tomorrow. Thanks RJ!

    • R.J.

      Thanks!

    • R.J.

      That’s quite the rabbit hole.

      • rhywun

Yeah my eyes glazed over just skimming it.

        • R.J.

          BILL CLINTON BAD!

We all know that. CIA certainly explains the low survival rate of his acquaintances.

          • MikeS

And it started* way back in the 60’s when his college roommate committed suicide.

*I swear, I have absolutely no proof of it being anything other than suicide.

    • MikeS

Just before I got overwhelmed with it all, I ran across this paragraph:

Clinton’s favorite professor at Georgetown was Carroll Quigley, a Defense Department consultant and author of Tragedy & Hope: A History of the World in Our Time (1966), which traced the power of a small Anglo-Saxon banking elite and how they effectively ruled the world.[7] Quigley wrote that “the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. The policies that are vital and necessary for America are no longer subjects of significant disagreement, but are disputable only in details of procedure, priority, or method.

      Mission accomplished, professor.

      • R.J.

Yep. I think it all started under Bush 1. Then has continued ad infinitum to the present day.

        • Brochettaward

Honestly, we probably have a bigger contrast between the two parties today than at any point in our lifetimes. There is still a strong squishy GOP element who only disagree with Dems on the hows and whys, but the right has hardened on issues like gun rights while the left has gone full batshit on the socialism ( or “progressivism,” which used to be a dirty word in American politics).

They don’t differ much in spending. In practice, you may not feel there is much difference in how they behave. But at least in the ideologies, there was definitely more of a Cold War consensus on how government should operate and both parties stuck far closer to the middle.

      • Count Potato

Noam Chomsky wrote that a long time ago.

        • rhywun

I used to read him and it was hard to sift through the crazy to find the real.

          • Count Potato

            [real]

        • Chafed

I think you lit the Michael Moynihan signal.

          • Count Potato

            Who?

            • Chafed

Former Reasonoid. Co-host of The Fifth Column podcast.

              • Count Potato

                OK, never listened to it.

      • hayeksplosives

        I … can’t even.

  10. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Man, this is some bad football. Maybe even worse than last week.

    • rhywun

I’ve got hawkey and two tennis matches going.

      Suck it, Amazon.

    • Zwak. who's suit is as ragged as his nerves.

Its gotten better in the 3rd. Not great, but better.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Good grief. How did the Niners lose to the Bears? They’re horrible.

      • Dr. Fronkensteen

The monsoon helped the Bears against the 49ers

    • Brochettaward

Just think – Amazon spent over $58 billion to have the rights to this game.

Stop supporting this hustle. Don’t even watch. The NFL’s product is becoming a joke in general, Thursday night football is even worse than average, and fuck Amazon.

TNF still isn’t as bad as Rings Of Power, though, so I guess there’s that…

      • The Hyperbole

Week 3 was a good game.

    • Chafed

Amazon has freed me of the need to think about Thursday Night Football.

      • dbleagle

        Amen to that.

  11. Not Adahn

Greetings from hot and muggy Alabammy!

The CMP facility is just all class. Race Gun staff shoot is over, I placed in the lower half of Limited, which was going to happen anyway, but using a Production rig didn’t help anything. I did however beat the guy who was shooting in Open with a CO gun. However, I had more than a couple of stages where I laced in the top half, even with the extra mag changes, so that was nice. What absolutely killed me was one particular stage: Virginia count, all hard covered targets, bagged, shot while in a downpour. My first 0.000 HF! The stages were better than the Nats I attended in 2019, though not as awesome as the NYS championship ones. Don’t know if I’ll get a Limited classification out of this.

    Paying competitors start tomorrow!

  12. Ownbestenemy

Trip booked to Greenville and Asheville at the end of October. More land/house searching and area exploration.

KK? You gonna still be in area?

    • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

I’m headed downstate Nov 1 unless something opens up at one of the places where I’m on the waitlist. What day do you arrive?

      • Ownbestenemy

We land the 28th in the AM and drive over to Ashville first I think

  13. Count Potato

I thought The Selling was way better. Anyway…

    Thanks, RJ 🙂

    • R.J.

Welcome! I shall grab some horror films through Halloween.

      • rhywun

I was channel surfing earlier this evening and AMC was showing Halloween III.

I am confident that anything you throw out there will be better than Halloween III.

        • R.J.

Bethannica recommended a movie called “Tethered” which I an going to scan quickly. Straight up horror film.

          • Count Potato

            Bethannica?

            • R.J.

Yes. She used to comment here. Old friend.

              • Brochettaward

                Would?

              • Count Potato

                Sorry, must have missed that.

        • R.J.

I watched “Book of Monsters.” It was so close – but just not there for posting. It just didn’t work. Granted this movie’s ending didn’t work either, so maybe I am being too picky.

  14. Brochettaward

Sometimes, I grow tired of people wanting me to First on them, or in their mouths. I am all about The Firsting, as you know. I am, after all, The First Of All Firsters. But there are other parts of me besides The First. It is a bit degrading how much people want some Firsts.

    • Chafed

      You still charging $20?

      • Brochettaward

I would never put a price on a First. It goes completely against The Way Of The First.

I First for Firsting’s sake. I First for you, the Glibertariat. For humanity. I First to save you from your sins.

    • rhywun

on them, or in their mouths

I’m getting a weird feeling in my special area for some reason.

  15. Brochettaward

I have not been following the Alex Jones case closely, about to listen to his Crowder interview, but did they pretty much just determine that expressing batshit crazy opinions is not allowed, under penalty of having your entire life destroyed?

    • Brochettaward

Something tells me they definitely did not prove that he knew what he was saying was false.

    • kinnath

It’s been discussed. Try to keep up.

Judge ordered Jones to produce documents. Jones said they did not exist. Judge issued a verdict without a trial. Penalty phase resulted a nearly 1 billion dollar award.

      • rhywun

        Bonkers.

  16. Brochettaward

And now I see they made Troy Aikman apologize for saying that the NFL should take the dresses off players. Because it implies that women aren’t just as tough and strong as men!

    • slumbrew

They are so fierce that the merest slight requires a groveling apology.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Stop it, you’re gonna hurt their feeeelings!

  17. straffinrun

I get to wear a corset for three days because a 7 year old kid with Down syndrome decided to do a blast double leg take down on the 52 year old man walking through the school’s front door at 8:30 am. The chiropractor’s office handed me a sheet of paper and asked me to write down where it hurts and how the injury happened. “I’d rather not.” They looked confused.

    • Chafed

It’s not all bad if your wife digs the look.

    Mornin Glibs!

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, Stinky, and RoaT! It’s Friday and payday! Can’t think of much I have to do at work today, so I’ll manage my vast financial empire (i.e. pay bills and transfer money between/among accounts) and set up a spreadsheet counting down the hours until time to go home. Oh – and pester our PEO about why they can’t seem to fix the updating of vacation balances in the timekeeping system. 🙄

    • Rat on a train

I didn’t realize there were Wawas that don’t sell gas.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I can think of few places I’d rather not work than a convenience store in a bad area. I’d rather be on a chain gang, it’d be so much safer.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time?

    • UnCivilServant

This world had better not be an egg. If it hatches we’re all in trouble.

DC may delay COVID-19 vaccination deadline for students again

The D.C. Council is expected to take a vote on temporary and emergency legislation on Nov. 1 to push back the deadline almost another year to the beginning of the 2023-24 school year. The current deadline is Jan. 3, 2023.

“We certainly think children should be vaccinated, but there is hesitancy around the COVD vaccine, which we have not seen in routine pediatric immunizations,” Farley said.

It’s estimated that about 45% of children over the age of 12, who must get fully vaccinated under D.C. policy, still have not.

Too many anti-vax Republicans living in the city.

    • Rat on a train

      Who can afford produce anyway?

      • Sean

        My gin needs limes.

        • Stinky Wizzleteats

Put them in an old sock.

    • Gender Traitor

California will be the first state in the nation to outlaw the produce bags after banning single-use checkout bags from supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores back in 2016.

The plastic ones aren’t necessarily “single-use” – I use them when I scoop the cat litter if they aren’t shoddily made and full of holes. 😾

      • Rat on a train

California already banned check out bags. These are the smaller bags for fresh produce.

        • Gender Traitor

I get it. Another reason to be glad I’m in Ohio and not California.

          • Rat on a train

The sanity must be driving you crazy.

        • Grosspatzer

One of our local stores, the Acme in Ramsey, NJ, voluntarily decided to remove the produce bags. I will not be shopping there again, I can get the same sales in Montvale where they are slightly less woke.

    • rhywun

Pepperidge Farm remembers the promise they weren’t banning produce bags when they banned plastic shopping bags.

Buena Park’s Medieval Times is a castle divided by union disillusion

After weeks of research and meetings with both AGVA and Medieval Times, 25 of the 47 members of Medieval Times’ bargaining unit — including stable hands, knights, squires and show cast members — signed a petition asking AGVA to withdraw its petition to the NLRB for a union election.
Several members of AGVA’s administration received the signed petition, and Doris responded three days later.
“The document that you sent me is of questionable authenticity, and will not interfere with the fundamental right of Medieval (Times) employees to choose to unionize,” she wrote. “We are awaiting a decision from the NLRB as to the details of the upcoming election.”

Why won’t the union follow labor law?

Green said AGVA’s union dues would run around $750 a year.

    There’s the reason.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Thou shouldst refrainest from yon union noncery and getteth the fuck back to work!

  22. UnCivilServant

    Morning, Glibs.

Watch, it’ll stop raining so I have to lower the shade on my window so the sun doesn’t blot out my computer screen. (My one office status symbol is that I have a window cube. I really want an office with a door, but this building doesn’t have any)

    • Rat on a train

I only rate an interior desk but I haven’t used it since 2020. I enjoyed watching GS employees fighting over seating charts when I was a sergeant that got to choose among the crumbs.

      • UnCivilServant

What I value most about a cube location is low foot traffic and a swnse that no one is looking over my shoulder. Having a high foot traffic location literally made me sick from the added stress. Getting shunted into a windowless interior corner improved my health dramatically. My current cube is still off the beaten path. No one will walk by randomly, since I’m at the end of the row away from the aisle.

        • Rat on a train

There have been a few particularly bad locations over the years that I fortunately did not get.
Near the door so there is an expectation to answer for deliveries and guests.
In a classified environment near the shared unclassified phone so there is an expectation to answer when it rings.
Near the door to the server room that sounded like every device was running at 100%.

          • UnCivilServant

I liked my cube that was next to the server room door.

Admittedly, the sound didn’t make it out of the server room and there were white noise machines there. I can tell you that a Dell 1850 booting up does a great impression of a jet engine though.

    • The Hyperbole

How do they keep out thieves and such?

      • Rat on a train

        Theft-free zone signs?

      • UnCivilServant

We can’t. The political appointees come and go as they please.

    • Gender Traitor

So…wishing you a nice…cloudy day? (Would partly cloudy do?)

      • UnCivilServant

I actually like rainy office days. It’s soothing to turn around and watch the water run down the window.

        • Gender Traitor

::gets up out of chair, does clumsy, awkward rain dance::

            • Gender Traitor

::dancing suddenly improves immensely, complete with swinging hips::

        • Not Adahn

You can have all the rain you want, as long as it doesn’t rain her on 10/19 and 10/20. I have to shoot those days and cleaning up after the last storm rined ore than one hotel towel.

  23. Grosspatzer

    Mornin’, reprobates!

Stayed up until 4AM Wednesday night to monitor a process fix.

Good news: I did not break anything new.
Bad news: I did not fix the issue.

This is turning into my white whale.

    • Rat on a train

It will get a stealth fix at some point leaving you uncertain what happened.

      • Grosspatzer

Either someone is already performing a manual fix overnight or the retry mechanism succeeds after multiple retries. One of these days the support team will respond to my inquiries – just let me know if you did something, guys, is that too much to ask?

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘patzie! Sorry it’s not getting better, but glad it’s not getting worse!

‘patzie’s gots da white whale blues!

      • Grosspatzer

        Nice, hadn’t heard that one.

        • Gender Traitor

Now that you’ve heard the “Cliff Notes,” you don’t have to bother with that overlong, tedious book! 😃

          • UnCivilServant

I read it in high school. The sections on whaling and how the industry worked were fascinating. The subplot about Ahab wasn’t all that interesting.

            • Gender Traitor

I tried reading it as an (alleged) adult and just couldn’t plow my way through. The most unlikely book I actually enjoyed reading in high school was Silas Marner.

              • Mojeaux

I liked Silas Marner. I also liked Tale of Two Cities.

              • UnCivilServant

I’ve Never heard of that one.

I’m trying to think of the most unlikely book I’ve enjoyed reading. As a baseline, I’m the kind of guy who reads stuff like De Re Metallica for fun. (As an aside, Herbert Hoover should have stayed an engineer) I’m drawing a blank, probably because I do so much pre-emptive filtering of materials the outliers don’t make it through.

            • The Hyperbole

  25. Mojeaux

Welp. I am up bright and early so I can finally end this torment known as colonoscopy prep. I only wanted an EGD. They said, “How long has it been since you had a colonoscopy?” “Um, I had one when my daughter was 9 months old.” “Aaaaaaand how old is your daughter?” “Ummmmm, 19.” *dead stare*

    • Grosspatzer

Sorry. Sounds like you had a shitty day.

      • UnCivilServant

Which is liable to get probitive.

      • Mojeaux

        It was, indeed, shitty.

      • Fourscore

The good news about getting older is that the medical profession has less interest in some aspects of my internal workings.

    • Gender Traitor

In early 2020, I was scheduled for a routine colonoscopy, a mammogram, and a dental checkup. Guess which was the only one that DIDN’T get cancelled when everything got shut down. 😒

      • Mojeaux

I’m avoiding mammography as assiduously as I was avoiding colonoscopy, so that’s a trick question. LOL

      • Fourscore

Yeah, dental visits are not much fun

    • rhywun

Oh noes, sorry. I had to do it twice in 2020.

Have the guidelines changed? I thought you start getting them annually after 50.

      My colon remains untouched.

      • Mojeaux

IIRC, every 5 years starting at 40. I don’t remember why they insisted I do it after XX was born.

        • Certified Public Asshat

Ah, so you are a little behind.

          (hey-o)

        • rhywun

Yeah, I would nope right the hell out of doing it every year.

          • UnCivilServant

But how are the proctologists supposed to pad their billing if they don’t cycle patients faster?!

  26. Fourscore

Ground is white this morning. It’s only the beginning (remembers last April)

  27. Not Adahn

I’ve never interacted with so many Southerners before. This is a perfect example of how Texas is NOT in “The South.” I swear, these people must spend time working on their accents and courtly mein.

    • UnCivilServant

You don’t need to work on something that’s been ingrained in your upbringing. It just comes naturally.

      • Not Adahn

You say that, but surely being bombarded by “standard USian” speech and behavior in all your entertainment media has a homogenizing effect that you’d have to actively resist.

I can see why it can freak outsiders out. I get a definite vibe of “I am demonstrating precisely correct courteous behavior. Please respond with behavior that matches it in politeness.” Like if Dame Judy was crossed with Foghorn Leghorn and a heldentenor .

        • UnCivilServant

The effect of media is overstated. Especially when the social norms of your day to day meatspace interactions reinforce the upbringing.

  28. R.J.

    CWAA.

I understand some amount of autonomy is needed for judges — but there has to be ways to rein in petty dictator crap like this beyond “Wait for their next election” or “Hope a higher court bothers to look” (because like all things legal, the last thing judges want to do is set a precedent of limiting judicial power).

    • UnCivilServant

I am aware of sure-fire ways to get rid of such behaviours.

I’m afraid that it is frowned upon by people who believe in the rule of law.

CWABOA (That’s a bunch of, if you were wondering).

Given the VA Legislature and Gov, I doubt any of it would pass — but that they think they can put it out there speaks volumes (and I’m sure it will be coming to CA if that moron who wants to lower consent to 2 in the Bay Area has anything to say about it). Talk about “there have been revolutions for much, much less” and “unconstitutional as hell”.

Losing elections is supposed to restore some level of sanity to the vanquished, particularly when you lost the election for…exactly these sorts of policies, telling parents their kids don’t really belong to them, but to the state.

I’d imagine it’s very hard for the Dems to do that because they have so many of the right people with the right platforms cheering them on at all times. They have no sense of self-awareness or ability to admit they fucked up on anything.
