A Christmas Horror Story

A Christmas Horror Story

My orders are to report to a cruise ship where I will be given many Piña Coladas and listen to Boomer music. I understand there are drink specials and gambling, which are important for my continued survival. As such, I may be in short supply during the next few weeks.

Tonight’s film is a series of short stories, narrated by William Shatner playing as a radio DJ. This is a great film with a good plot twists which would have fit in well with Creepshow or Twilight Zone.  There is a chance some of you may remember this as A Holiday Horror Story. The rumor is that this film was re-titled for storefront sale at WalMart. I took a moment to research this.  Seeing is believing. If you go to buy a copy online at WalMart it does not show that slipcover. As such I almost discounted this rumor.

This film has good trivia I was unaware of: The film takes place in the fictional town of Bailey Downs, which is where the Ginger Snaps films take place, as well as the name of the suburb where the Allison clone in the Orphan Black (2013) television series takes place. This was intentional, as the filmmakers were responsible for the Ginger Snaps films, and director John Fawcett is one of the creators of Orphan Black. (Courtesy IMDB)

All of the stories in this film are interwoven. It works very well, up to a surprise ending.  I will spoil nothing!  Time to stop talking and start packing.  There is yet another big party, right before I leave on this cruise. So watch!  Or don’t!  Everything is voluntary until Shatner starts to sing!  Next week, Eight Crazy Nights!

    No one beats the Shat.

  2. Brochettaward

I’ve seen this one. Hell if I remember much about it. There’s a krampus story in it? May watch it again. I’m a basic bitch when it comes to horror.

    • R.J.

      1. Yes, there is a krampus.
      2. Other good short horror films in it.
      3. Enjoy, if you choose! I am here at least part of the night. On the road starting tomorrow.

  3. DenverJ

What’s up party people?!? I love Shatner, have a fiance who’s been putting on Christmas movies since Halloween, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this! This will definitely go in the lineup.

    • R.J.

Nice. You enjoy. There were a few that I did not have time to post, all on Tubi:
      A Merry Friggin’ Christmas
      Christmas Blood
      Santa Claws
      Mother Krampus
      A Christmas Karen

      • R.J.

Oh, and All the Creatures were Stirring looked good.
There was also a crappy one about a haunted elf doll that should have been great – it was not.

        • DenverJ

          👍

      • Mojeaux, font of all evil

MOTHER KRAMPUS?! You mean I’m NOT the first person to make Krampus a woman?! HORS!

        • R.J.

You probably did it first. That is a recent film, around 2017.

    • DenverJ

Ima reply here because it gets too thin. I think I’ve seen Santa Claws, and Christmas Karen sounds fun.

      • R.J.

It is fairly amusing, yet I had to get over the conceit that the fat, ill-tempered Karen was conservative instead of a lefty. It didn’t come up much so I was OK with it.

    • Gustave Lytton

      Whoa! Look who’s here.

Since I missed it before, congratulations!

      • DenverJ

Thanks. Been busy, but haven’t forgotten you all.

    • Common Tater

      Congrats on the impending nuptials.

    • Chafed

Good to see you J. Congratulations on the engagement.

  4. The Hyperbole

Much as I wish the left was correct about the J6 larpers being actual insurrectionists, I wish the right was correct about the “War on Xmas™”, I feel like I’m the only one fighting anymore and it’s a bit demoralizing. But I’m not going to admit defeat yet, Bah Humbug MFer’s, Bah Hum Bug!

    • R.J.

Do you need some Christmas music?

      • R.J.

Hype is wise. He stays silent when I ask if he wants music.

      • The Hyperbole

No, unless it’s the Kinks, but that song kicks ass all year long so it doesn’t really count as Xmas music.

    • ron73440

      Yep, no “War on Christmas”.

I’m sure it is just a coincidence that no commercial or sign says “Merry Christmas”, and they all say “Happy Holidays”.

I don’t think anyone notices anymore, it has become so ubiquitous.

      • DrOtto

I think Hype is referring to how early the Christmas season seems to start earlier and earlier every year.

      • The Hyperbole

So I’m winning? Woo-Hoo! Take that baby Jesus.

    • Not Adahn

So, are you taking the bogus position that decolonizing the holidays/decentering whiteness impetus never existed, or are you taking the bogus position that the only people pushing that were some silly -studies majors that had no effect off campus?

  5. Aloysious

I don’t think ol’ Norman is feeling very Chrismissy.

  6. Aloysious

    Gratuitous booty grab.

    SANTA SMITH APPROVES.

  7. Common Tater

Pretty sure I’ve seen this already too.

    • R.J.

There is a fairly limited pool of quality holiday films. So comment away on any topic.

  8. Sean

Oh, poor Malcolm. How far you’ve fallen…

    Doing hairclub commercials. Sad!

    • The Hyperbole

X, McDowell, In the Middle, Jamal Warner? you’re gonna need to be more specific.

      • Sean

        In the middle

        • Gender Traitor

Don’t feel too bad for him – it looks as if he’s moving up in his auto racing career to NASCAR’s second-level series next year.

Maybe the hair club will be one of his sponsors! 😁

  9. Aloysious

Oh hey. Julian Richings. Very cool.

    • R.J.

That guy has been in over 200 films. Super prolific.

      • Aloysious

His character comes to a rather unfortunate end in Netflixes Polar, starring Mads Mikkelson.

  10. Aloysious

Nekkid black lady just got put on the naughty list.

  11. DrOtto

My favorite Shatner song is his cover of Pulp’s Common People. I don’t have mystical linking abilities, but do yourself a favor and google it on the U tubes.

  12. DrOtto

I like the cut rate George Plimpton they use in the Vic20 ad.

  13. Mojeaux, font of all evil

Doctor prescribing drugs he knows his elderly patient cannot afford, and says so in his note. Why. What is even the point.

    • Brochettaward

Can’t the patient just not be poor anymore?

    • groat scotum

The latter is from the Wednesday post. Nobody else picked up on that amazing visual? at least judging from ctrl+f. Philistines.

The former is, well. You know.

  14. Aloysious

I didn’t see that ending coming.

    The Shat rawked.

    • Chafed

      As usual.

    • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

There are few things better than a good Shat.

Looking through the interwebs I found this,
    https://fee.org/articles/argentina-s-inflation-explained-in-one-chart/

“Killing triple-digit inflation won’t fix all of Argentina’s economic problems, which are decades in the making and stem from its embrace of Peronism (a blend of fascism and national socialism).”
    So, Nazis?

    • Suthenboy

More people should read that. I find it nearly impossible to discuss inflation or rising prices with people because they are so commonly conflated. Of course that is by design.

    • Lackadaisical

It is honestly hard to tell some of the supposed new art deco featured in the story is art deco. (1 bennet park, especially)

I’m not an expert in the style, but I expect a little more geometric design added in and a bit of flash. That said, I am glad there is some movement away from the nearly brutalist designs of old and even the all-glass tower/cube/pillar/whatever aesthetic.

    • UnCivilServant

      But it’s Friday!

      *sigh*

At least I am awake well before I have to leave for the office.

      • Sean

Do you also hate the chain restaurant?

    • Lackadaisical

I’d rate it a ‘meh’. Sounds like it is all volunteer (except maybe police officer time?)

  16. UnCivilServant

    Morning, Glibs.

Last night I made an absurd amount of progress on a diarama for a contest at the local GW store. The deadline to complete is saturday, but I’ve gotten most of it done. I just have to do final assembly of where the models sit on the terrain, gore effects, adding the last bits of fake plant tufts, and painting the edges of the base.

I just wish I hadn’t been pulled away by so many things and been able to put more time into the fine details and ideas I haven’t been able to implement.

    • Lackadaisical

I assume you’ll post some pics?

      • UnCivilServant

Darn thing is impossible to photograph without showing how cluttered my hobby room is.

    • Gender Traitor

      😁👍

    • Ghostpatzer

Nice! I get that you want to spare us the horror of your hobby room, but how bad can it be? After all, this is a group which consumes a steady diet of SugarFree.

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not sparing you, I’m sparing myself the shame of having the clutter on public display.

  17. Beau Knott

    Good morning all!
    How about a little INXS?

    Freedom Deep

    Men and Women

    Share and enjoy!

  18. Tres Cool

    suh fam
    Yo what’s goody

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, homey, Beau, Lack, U, and Sean!

      • Lackadaisical

        Morning gt! TGIF

        • Gender Traitor

Yup! And I feel better because I was able to leave work early yesterday and get a start on my Christmas shopping for my siblings. (It also helps that I won’t see them until the 30th!)

    • R.J.

Good morning. Back to work for me, a panicked short day and then off to vacation.

  19. Stinky Wizzleteats

Man, I was searching for a story on the reauthorization of the warrantless surveillance stuff to post here and I couldn’t find shit: A couple of articles from a couple of weeks ago and some stuff from the last time they reauthorized it in 2018. They sure managed to bury it this time-what we don’t know won’t hurt us I guess?

    • Gender Traitor

Oh, I’m sure they just ran out of room on the Internet, and since it was no big deal anyway, it had to be left out to make room for more important stories. 🙄

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Did a Brave search with their search engine-nothing-maybe it’s on the others but lord have mercy…

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Well good, I’m glad it can be found somewhere.

        • R.J.

Stories started coming out late yesterday afternoon. Most if those sites don’t get search results. Larger websites will have that story today.

          • Stinky Wizzleteats

I suppose so but it bothers me that there was practically no public debate before this thing was voted on outside of some sorta fringe corners of the interweb. If it wasn’t for Greenwald and Dave Smith (or was it Hexenhammer? I can’t remember for sure) I wouldn’t have known myself.

            • R.J.

I absolutely agree. Can’t trust anybody in government. Not one.

  20. Ghostpatzer

    Mornin’, reprobates!

Good to see that our overlords have authorized an extension to FISA. I feel so much safer now, that was close.

    • The Hyperbole

I’m not concerned because I never do anything wrong and have nothing to hide.

      • Ghostpatzer

        Nothing to hide? Sounds exaggerated.

      • R.J.

You attend my movie nights. Tainted, you are.

        https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nQLJNCDa4GA

Same link as yesterday, I just don’t think too many peeps saw it. Enjoy some morning music!

    • R.J.

Geddy Lee’s autobiography is on there too. MikeS would be spewing vitriol if he was around. I miss that guy.

    • Ghostpatzer

#2 might be OK, if it has illustrations.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

She’s managed to maintain her looks somewhat but the poor woman’s as crazy as a shithouse rat.

        • Lackadaisical

I find it interesting how I have way more sympathy for her than say Kanye. I think males, generally at least, have a lot more concern for the wellbeing of women than we do for other men.

          • R.J.

This is true. Also wrongthink. Go to the box and feel shame.

  21. Not Adahn

I enjoyed Orphan Black and thought (think) Tatiana has got some acting chops. Pity she’s decided to portray the woke bitch IRL.

    • Lackadaisical

That’s a great idea, can you imagine getting to learn rocketry from former SpaceX people?
