I informed my youngest he needs to eat more protein. He tends to eat nothing but complex carbs, because he’s a kid, and that’s what kids find amongst the multitude of meat and cheese based snacks. Except I’ve found him in a dark corner in the morning eating a Chomps stick. Yes, its just a high falutin Slim Jim but at 10g of protein this represents 1/5 of his daily protein requirement. I told him that behavior was odd and he doesn’t need to hide eating meat in the morning.

So this morning I get this:

*Rip*

“WILL YOU STOP EATING THOSE IN THE CAR!?”

“What?” *continues munching*

Yes, in an enclosed space at 0700, they’re a bit on the stinky side.

¡enlaces!

¿El Emperadór Dudebro?

The Orange Man levies his tariffs over the weekend. Market drops. Mexico says it will play along. Market recovers. Canada meanwhile…needed another day to ask its mother first.

The ACLU does what they do, waste the court’s time.

Meanwhile, why are we doing the tariff thing again?

Not to be outdone, Ecuador also levies a 27% tariff on Mexico.

When did Marco Rubio start being cool? Is this some based Golem wearing a Rubio skinsuit?

El Presidente Dudebro has some ideas.

They need to stop playing this in the gym. Have a great Tuesday!

how do I see the fucking gif?

    • kinnath

actually, it’s not a gif today.

      • kinnath

Reflexes got the better of me.

That will show up in some report in IT. I hope I survive.

      • SDF-7

Ouch… sorry. Did not intend for anyone to follow it (I didn’t actually do the http:// part for that matter — apparently WordPress decided to be “helpful”).

      • kinnath

        I wasn’t paying attention when I clicked.

I assume that IT has bigger problems than me.

      • Sean

        🙂

      • Tundra

For some reason when my VPN connects to a server in Utah there are sites that won’t open. Not naughty sites, but just regular ones.

        NSA probably.

  2. SDF-7

they’re a bit on the stinky side.

I’m now wondering if I’m going to be alone in thinking he was letting one rip in a different fashion… for which this statement still holds.

  3. SDF-7

They need to stop playing this in the gym.

Well it doesn’t really have the vibe for NASCAR…..

  4. SDF-7

Be fair — the Central American crapholes to El Salvador — the South American ones to Millei. Talk about an Amazon delivery!

  5. Tundra

    Chomps are great!

100 calories and 10g of protein – not too shabby. Also no shitty ingredients and – for Pie – grass finished!

    But yes, kind of stinky.

    • Sean

Yep. I’ll buy them by the box.

      No stinky issues here.

    • mexican sharpshooter

They’re excellent, but a bit expensive.

One of the first Community Notes on X had to do with that song. There’s a country star that got a country music award for doing a cover of it, and some AWFL was on X saying Tracy Chapman would never win that award (because racist). And the community note was that she’s not a country singer, but she won Grammy’s and the song went platinum for her.

    • kinnath

      I remember that.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Excellent choice.

    • Evan from Evansville

Drummers who can sing baffle me. I’m not a bad singer, though never performed as such. I *have* done so as a drummer:

The ‘speaking’ and drumming parts of my brain have never allowed their mixture, and that ain’t just an Ev thing. It’s funny how odd multi-tasks can completely override each other, muting both skills. (Any other examples, ya got?)

That’s a great ‘new’ song, by far(?) the best a glib has linked to (that I didn’t already know). I kinda knew their name and jokes from umlauts and Airheads!, but never listened to ’em. That’s impressive as hell. Sincere thanks.

re Immigration: ““The government is doing just what Congress by statute decreed that the United States must not do. It is returning asylum seekers — not just single adults, but families too — 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝,” 𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞.”

Yes. That’s exactly what will happen to them. (My yawning won’t cease ’til their delusions do.)

    • The Other Kevin

At first glance, I don’t see any mention in that article of the app that Biden encouraged everyone to use, with instructions on how to declare they needed asylum no matter what country they came from.

  8. The Other Kevin

People in general do not eat enough protein. My wife’s step mom is basically starving herself to lose weight, and wondering why her hair is falling out. Mrs. TOK told her she’s malnourished and needs more protein. She rejected that advice. Then went to her doctor, who told her to eat more protein, specifically 100g per day.

Step Mom: “How can I possibly eat that much?”
Mrs. TOK: “I routinely eat that much for breakfast. I’m eating 210g on a good day.”

    • Sean

Eat more steak. This ain’t hard.

    • Mojeaux

So, my mom spent almost 2 weeks in the hospital. She didn’t eat. She’s eaten a little here and there since she’s gotten to my house, but she can’t get to the commode quite yet, so she’s hungry, but, you know. Yesterday her PT talked to her about eating protein and one reason she’s so weak is because she hasn’t had any. She will NOT touch protein shakes. 🤢 She asked for scrambled eggs with cheese last night. I scrambled 2 eggs, but I don’t think she ate but 1 egg’s worth.

      • Tundra

        Chicken? Fish?

She absolutely needs to figure it out. Her poor body is in recovery mode and needs help.

      • The Other Kevin

Seconded. Eggs with cheese was a good idea, that’s got a decent amount of protein and fat. At least she had some.

Cottage cheese is good, Greek yogurt, nuts. Maybe a protein bar? Most are too much like candy bars, but in her case so what.

      • Mojeaux

You can’t start with a feast if you’ve been starving/malnourished so long or you’ll get sick. I’m encouraging her to eat and I’ll fix whatever she wants, but I have to be careful not to get into the nagging zone, which her sisters have been nagging and berating her for the last 15 years. She’ll eat just to get me to shut up, and her mental health is also fragile right now. She keeps apologizing to me for being such a “bother” and “burden.” So if she asks for a McChicken (she has twice now), that’s what she gets—pronto.

      • Tundra

Her gut is likely really fucked up. Are you giving her any probiotics? Kevin’s yogurt suggestion is a good one. Kefir is good too.

Ground beef seems to be pretty easy on most people too.

      • Mojeaux

Oh, probiotics! I didn’t even think. Thank you! She’s sleeping right now. I’ll ask her when she wakes up.

I have a shit-ton of ground beef, so I can do that also.

      • Tundra

Don’t waste money on the pills and powders yet. Try some of the fermented foods first. Kombucha might be good as well.

      • The Other Kevin

My wife like just plain ground beef when she needs the extra protein. Sometimes with rice, sometimes not. I think it’s gross without seasoning. It’s also easy to cook up and leave in the fridge for the week.

      • Tonio

Many small meals or large snacks with an emphasis on nutrition particularly protein. IIRC that’s one thing they did to the WW2 servicemembers who had been prisoners of the Japanese and were severely malnourished.

      • Sensei

I’m way outside my wheelhouse here, but be cautious if she still has renal problems.

      • Tundra

        Kevin:

I use it a lot too. Sometimes only with salt, pepper and garlic. Sometimes taco seasoning and have it with eggs in the morning. Simple can be good!

        Tonio:

That’s a great idea. For someone who hasn’t been eating, 40g of protein will seem like choking down a wildebeest.

      • Mojeaux

No renal problems anymore. She went into the hospital with a kidney infection (which is what happens when you have an untreated UTI). She was given contrast dye, which made her kidneys “fail,” but we didn’t know that and, further, wouldn’t have known it’s a self-correcting problem. No miracles. Dye just worked its way out of her system.

I do plain ground beef with salt (unsalted is just gross) when I’m being careful. Her sodium is low, too, so …

I don’t know if she likes yogurt. I’ll ask.

      • Aloysious

        Does she like pork?

Thinly sliced pork loin chops cook fast and go good with everything from salads to sandwiches to soup.

    • Jarflax

      Bison helps with this.

      • cavalier973

Another reason to celebrate Trump exiting us from the WHO and the Paris Climate “treaty”

    • Evan from Evansville

FUCK THAT ADVICE. (Not all of it.)

Fortify Protein Shakes. 360g/serving and 16g of protein. All in 8oz. Vanilla’s now my favorite. Necessary morning drink. Y’all do coffee. Uh. No,
I’ll do an ad for that in a heartbeat. (See also: Valtrex. Don’t ‘get’ shingles.)

“While not addressing the ultimatum over the canal, [Panama President] Mulino said in a news conference on Sunday that his government would not renew an agreement with China on its “Belt and Road” investment initiative signed by a former president in 2017.”

This time? I’m not shrieking “STOP MAKING ME DEFEND HIM!.” I’m just watching in (comparative, presidential) awe. Anything anti-China is good, but damn it’s also Monroe Doctrine-ish. ‘Stay the fuck away from our hemisphere.’ Panama is a damn big piece. Fuck, yes.

    • Brochettaward

I saw Mexico folded. Just got home from work. Did the Canucks give into OMB yet?

      • kinnath

        yes they did

      • creech

No, according to the lefty chick on “The Five”, Trump caved to them.

  10. Brochettaward

The NFL will no longer display “End Racism” in the endzone for the Super Bowl.

All of this stupid little shit adds up. I don’t think we’ll ever see a more resounding victory in the culture war than Trump’s re-eleection in our lifetimes. I’ve said it before, but the left is defeated right now. Uttlery despondent while those normies who were going with the flow so they didn’t rock the boat are quietly breathing a sigh of relief.

There’s no resistance this go around. Just…the agony of defeat. It’s a beautiful thing to behold.

    • Mojeaux

Or, as KK reminded me last week, “Silent majority is silent.”

    • Tundra

I think the speed plays a part as well. I don’t think the proggies (of both parties) know where to focus their outrage.

Drinking from a firehose. And JD promises they won’t slow down.

      • R C Dean

I hope he’s right. They should have a new target every week. Gut the EPA, and USAID is old news. Move on to the IRS, and the EPA is old news. They could do that every week for two years and not run out of targets.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Flooding the zone. I have seen this mentioned a few times in leftward sites, they just don’t know how to keep up.

    • mexican sharpshooter

The NFL will no longer display “End Racism” in the endzone for the Super Bowl.

Doesn’t matter until they bring back the Washington Redskins.

      • Chafed

        Baby steps.

    • Pope Jimbo

What is interesting to me is that several of my proggie people have been rheee-ing more about Musk this time than OMB. He seems to be the #1 Threat to Democracy now.

Trump is only dangerous now because he is enabling Musk.

I can’t believe some of the emails I have gotten about how terrible it is that Musk has busted into Treasury and USAID. If I’m feeling masochistic, I’ll reply sometimes with “what makes you more worried, Elon getting access to those bureaucracies or what he’s finding in there? Because for me it is the latter.”

Surprisingly, those don’t much pushback. I think they know that the spending by the Feds is indefensible. If I do get pushback, it is about privacy and how Musk now knows everything about people and that is wrong. If I was really mean, I could reply “Welcome to the libertarian bandwagon.”

      • rhywun

That’s because Musk gets shit done and the left is terrified of that.

If I do get pushback, it is about privacy herpity derpity doo

        They’re lying.

  11. rhywun

illegally put people who are fleeing war and persecution in harm’s way

Absolute bullshit, unless we are at war or something with Mexico or Canada.

returning asylum seekers — not just single adults, but families too — to countries where they face persecution or torture

    lol Bullshit

    • Brochettaward

These fucks are renewing their passports right now.

Don’t even have to deport many of them. Just block their reentry when they try to fly back from their vacations.

    • R C Dean

      Saw a meme (paraphrased):

Immigrant Family at Border: I’m from Central America and I’ll be persecuted if I stay.

Border Patrol: Well, you’re in Mexico. Problem solved.

    • Pope Jimbo

      Rhywun:

I’d love it if Musk and his nerd squad would dig into the numbers and find out how many of our refugees have returned home to visit. In my world, anyone here as a refugee that visits home again is automatically barred from returning.

      • R C Dean

And if they’ve gone and come back already, refugee status revoked. They obviously lied on their application. Put ‘em on the next helicopter, err, plane home.

    • Brochettaward

He’s leveraging the threat of tariffs to punish Mexico and eventually break Canada into folding as part of the U.S. (He has said as much). All while trying to grab Greenland and the Panama Canal by any means necessary.

Trump is barely even hiding what he’s actually doing. They teach this shit even in our shitty school system. It’s the carry a big stick approach to diplomacy, and the US still has the biggest club around by far. The tariffs were a negotiating tactic, and they’re working. The threats of annexation are a bargaining tool.

He did the same shit (less effectively) in term 1. I was actually wrong. He’s learned a lot from his first go around. Didn’t think he was capable of this.

      • R C Dean

“eventually break Canada into folding as part of the U.S. (He has said as much)”

Still doing the old “take him literally but not seriously” schtick, I see.

    • rhywun

Canada reportedly had already laid out some of those border security measures and threw a few other things into the mix to please Trump.

And Mexico had already been doing Trump’s dirty work on immigration.

      LOL sure Jan. 🙄

  12. Mojeaux

Re Slim Jims. I FLUV Slim Jims. Then a friend of mine pointed out there were 9g carbs, of which 1g was fiber and 2g were sugars, so I stopped eating them as low-carb snacks.

    Never saw Chomps before.

    • Brochettaward

If Elon gets rid of the IRS, fuck it. I’ll carry his next child for him.

    • Mojeaux

Does he REALLY think getting rid of the IRS is a scary thing?

      • The Other Kevin

To a certain segment of the population, yes. The IRS is the instrument for financial equity, which goes after the rich scofflaws who don’t pay their fair share.

  14. KK

I’m having a beer on a Tuesday because fuck all of it.

So, KK, just wanted to confirm:

      Are you unemployed right now?

      • KK

        Not the foggiest clue. Seriously.

      • R.J.

Did you work a full day today?

      • mexican sharpshooter

My wife says the same thing, there’s a lot thrown out there but really there’s a lot they need to get in olace before they can really do anything. For example, actually having office space.

      • KK

As much as I could without an email address, network access, or a website 🤷‍♂️

      • R C Dean

Sorry to hear that, KK. Not knowing is probably worse than actually getting the news, in some ways.

  15. The Late P Brooks

People would freak when it came time to pay and possibly ask some questions…

      • The Other Kevin

Especially now that we see where some of the money is going.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

A friend of mine thinks that the US has high taxes relative to his home country. While our taxes are too high, his home country just does a better job of hiding it. VAT is built into the price. Withholdings are automatic. But if you look at government spending as a percent of GDP (aka the true tax rate) his country spends far more.

      • rhywun

I thought I read somewhere a few years ago that the U.S. spends just as much as those other countries we like to make fun of but we just hide it better.

        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

        Municipal income tax
more excise taxes than most realize (gasoline, utilities, internet, phone, tobacco and alcohol and pot, some foods, plus other less known ones)
Tariffs that are already in place on various things imported.
Use taxes for hotels, restaurants, etc.

Yeah there’s quite a few ways we are bled.

      • Suthenboy

Jarflax, now add in compulsory spending to private industry on insurance, medicare, various regulations for daycares, restaurants, fire codes etc.
        Motor vehicle registration, inspection etc.

Add all of that up and compare it to your income. How much of your money is yours?

    • Pope Jimbo

Oh, lordy, don’t throw me in the briar patch! Anything but that!

It would be fun to hear a proggie use that phrase and then ask them where it came from.

Seems weird that we have so many things from Song of the South (zippedydoodah), but can never even talk about the movie because it is so “problematic”.

This is a behind the scenes video of Trump greeting Netanyahu today: https://x.com/Scavino47/status/1886901433582391521

It occurs to me that this admin is as open as any I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’m just used to Biden, where everything is scripted and hidden and everyone was putting up a front. But you see videos like this every day, Trump is answering off the cuff questions constantly. Everything they are doing is out in the open. (Maybe not KK’s employment status). It’s all on social media. If you have any question what they are doing at ICE or DOGE or whatever, just look it up. It’s all right there.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

This kind of openness is a threat to Our Democracy.

USAID was supposed to be the hotbed of resistance against Trump 2.0.

They were going to launder money to international “democracy” NGOs and media outlet to attack President Trump.

This is why they’re melting down big time.

    • rhywun

All the freakouts seem to boil down to “muh grift!” and it’s fucking glorious.

  20. cavalier973

In addition to flooding the zone, Team Trump is cutting off the escape hatches. His opponents can’t slip away and begin a new attack from a different direction. Refusing to knuckle to whatever passes as “political etiquette” in DC is serving them well.

“You can’t do that! It’s against the law!” (Meaning, “We could do something like that with impunity, but people like you were never supposed to!”).

    Stoneface Trump: *pushes button*

    Privileged

Two groups of anonymous FBI agents who worked on the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigation and other federal probes tied to President Trump are suing the federal government over the Justice Department’s plans to review the FBI’s workforce and scrutinize agents who may have worked on the sensitive investigations, according to two separate lawsuits filed monday.

The agents and the FBI Agents Association — an organization that represents thousands of current and former agents — are suing the Justice Department and its interim head, Acting Attorney General James McHenry, to prevent the public release of the names of the agents facing scrutiny.

Silly me. I didn’t even know we had a secret police agency.

    • Jarflax

      Lol, “a

  22. The Late P Brooks

The nine unnamed FBI agents who filed the first lawsuit on Tuesday alleged, “The purpose for this list is to identify agents to be terminated or to suffer other adverse employment action.”

Their attorneys asked for a jury trial and wrote that the agents feared “this list might be published by allies of President Trump, thus placing themselves and their families in immediate danger of retribution.”

If you’ve done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear.

    • Sensei

      Exactly my thoughts.

You can demand a jury trial when you get fired?

      • R.J.

        You can certainly ask politely.

Wouldn’t it be true that naming any criminal defendant going on trial was “placing them and families in danger of retribution?” Secret trials – just what American democracy needs.

      • Ted S.

I think there needs to be some happy medium between “secret trials” on the one hand and the police ganging up with the media to deliberately embarrass people by publishing mug shots.

    Maybe.

One of the theories that seemed credible is that there was no “Jack the Ripper”; it was a few unrelated murders that was overblown by the press.

    • R.J.

They’ll have to fix that old Todd Sweeney musical now. Shame.
