Double Feature!
What a fantastic evening for a double feature.
Curse of the Queerwolf is by Mark Pirro from whom I previously posted The Deceased Won’t Desist. That was very well received and according to some reviewers, Curse of the Queerwolf is his best film. So here we are. Here is a brief summary, provided by IMDB as usual:
After being bitten by what he thinks is a transvestite, Larry starts having nightmares about hillbillies, ominous visits from an old gypsy woman, and having the strangest reactions to the full moon…
Heck yes! And it is so topical! I loved the tagline too: “Even a wrist that is strong and firm and holds up straight by day, may become limp when the moon is full and the queerwolf comes your way!” This gets rave reviews from the people who matter: Anonymous commenters on IMDB.
I paired it with Queen Kong. Queen Kong is enjoyable and has a history. A summary:
Luce Habit and her female film crew set foot on the African tropical island of Lazonga where female natives idolize a huge female ape named Queen Kong. The ape immediately fancies Ray Fay, the film company’s hunky male love interest.
According to film buff history, Queen Kong never got a theatrical release because of copyright issues with the owners of King Kong. Not surprising. What is surprising is that the male love interest, Robin Askwith, was relieved it wasn’t released. He thought is was absolutely terrible.

“Queerwolf” is just a great name. It’s the lover of the *best* name, perhaps in history: ‘Dick Wolf.’ At the end of every L & O episode, the chime /gongs, and pretty much ‘Brought to you by Dick Wolf.’ Dammit. I lose. We lose. (But we win with Lennie Brisco /Jerry Orbach.)

Dick Daley has a disappoint
Oooh, Dick Daley. Damn, he *DID* fuck Chicago+ over in his daily regimen. Impressive naming, indeed. Mom’s dad, first-generation Polish immigrant, was a young man in the Northside during Daley’s early reign. (They were “Stefanski,” changed to ‘Stephens.’)
It’s an overly-perfect porn name for the hunk who 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 the ‘Swears-Off Men’ lesbo with his utter hunkdom. She, udderly firm and spectacular, gives in and discovers her Inner Het̵er̵o. It’s quite a show.

I used to have an open source program that would convert video files into gifs, that’s how I made this for a Cracked photoshop contest. But I can’t remember the program.

I’d like Sensei’s and other Nipponists’ opinion on Queen Kong: “The film has a cult following in Japan. In 1998, a troupe of Japanese comedians produced their own Japanese dialogue for the film, in a similar spirit to Woody Allen’s What’s Up, Tiger Lily?”
A Japanese MST3K version of this sounds fucking awesome. Vids like British people tasting American foods for the first time, etc etc, are hilarious. The Japanese take on late ’80s horror-comedy camp sounds damn funny. (And hard to understand! Esp for a non-native speaker.)

I still have never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show. And I was (the only straight!) dude in a sea of (literally) queer theater folk in high school /early university. Much drugs were involved. Many chances missed. Much shame remains.

Reason #23 we’ll never win. Heard a lecture tonight by some Prof. who heads a project to research the post-Civil War hunt by ex-slaves to reconnect with family members separated during slavery. Very touching with kids looking for mothers and such. She mentioned their grant, $100,000, from the National Archives was abruptly cancelled today, meaning two grad students lost their stipend and could no longer comb through microfiche records from the Freedman’s Bureau. One guy in the audience, known to me as a rabid pro-Trump & drain the swamp guy, nevertheless started bitching about how it was terrible the government couldn’t come up with a measly $100,000 to keep funding this project.
Marketing and awareness alone should sell that, maximize and amplify that many-x-fold.
I’d also love to see an accurate flick of Harriet Tubman, full of Civil War spycraft and how, armed-as-fuck, she didn’t take no shit from the people she busted her ass to save.
(That woman. Damn. (Seriously, why no realistic, gritty flick? It’d sell everything for fucking ever.))

I went to bed at nine, fell asleep by ten, and instead of getting up with my alarm (the intended plan for going to bed so early) I was woken up by the grow lights for my plants turning on.
Apparently my right eyelid was ever so slightly open, and you get a stab of artificial sunlight to the retina – that’ll wake you up. I don’t remember the dream I was having at the time, but I vividly remember it broke into TV static (as in the snow you’d get on a channel without a signal) and my brain hurriedly trying to rationalize why a dream would do that when you get bright light in your eyes before giving up as I finished waking up.
I also managed to get a small area decluttered enough that it triggers that “something’s not right here” reaction in the mind when just walking by. I’m hoping to expand the decluttering to more of the house.
Bravo on the decluttering so far! Good luck expanding it – hope it doesn’t blow your mind too badly!

Thinking of the seven dwarfs, the Snow White trailer is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Walt Disney must be rolling over in his freezer.

A YouTube channel called “Chat Music” scraped the comments on the trailers to make some songs. Three of them so far.
Now imagine it with the original seven magical beings.
One of the kulturkampf media sites said that Disney cancelled the London premier because of bad predictions.
Maybe this’ll be the final nail in the coffin for dumbass movie remakes/derivations that almost invariably ruin people’s impressions of the good original. It seems like they’d go back to caring about generating a profit at some point.

There was also a British version of Gaslight a few years before the famous Hollywood version. Both films are quite good.
It will be historically bad. As in discussed in film history books as the most colossal financial mistake made by a film studio.
But, I’ve been told the original was problematic in so many ways.
