That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.

There Can Be No Compromise With People Who Want You Dead
Nor can there be discussion. There are some on the left who can be reasoned with. The rest need to be managed like dangerous animals.
From the reports and videos I’m seeing, quite a few are getting themselves fired and assaulted. I imagine their reaction being along the lines of “But I’M the good guy!”
Who’s initiating the assaults?
UCS:
The two big ones I saw:
1) A person on a scooter riding through a vigil shouting “Fuck Charlie Kirk” who got a beat down by the crowd and was still yelling after someone got his dumb ass to the police protection.
2) A guy sitting at a table in front of a fountain with signs saying “Charlie Kirk Deserved It” who got pushed back into the fountain by a passerby.
I’m strangely alright with both of those.
Those do sound like cases of “asking for it”. Any modicum of sense or decorum would tell them it was a bad idea.
Yeah the dumbass on the scooter was yelling “What about free speech?!” after he was being protected by police. Well, your side just changed the rules on that, you dumb motherfucker.
I know it shouldn’t, but the crowd putting the boots to the asshole on the scooter really pleased me. Maybe they’ll understand we have our limit and we’ve now reached it.
Any modicum of sense or decorum would tell them it was a bad idea.
They’re used to right-wing crowds tolerating it. They don’t seem to realize yet that their side changed the rules with the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Yeah the dumbass on the scooter was yelling “What about free speech?!”
Congratulations, for provoking violence against yourself, you do not have to pay a fine or go to jail.
They killed the poster child for civil discussion and trying to reach common ground, and they are cheering that death. Viscerally I enjoy watching scooter guy get pounded, but I can’t help but think that Charlie Kirk would be wading into the crowd to stop it from happening, and that following his example probably does more to move things in a positive direction for us than beating up the asshole spewing hatred.
(((Jarflax:
As I said yesterday afternoon, I hope that there’s young men bringing folding tables, signs, and cameras to college campuses across the country looking to debate and talk. To me, that would be the best way to honor Kirk’s memory.
I’m half tempted to do it myself and go out Oberlin way.
Stay safe, Neph.
Hell, I’ve never been able to get my wife out of her (relatively mild) TDS ever since the “grab ’em by” line media storm. She loathes the man entirely… understands that I vote more for his positions and doesn’t harp at me for it… but Jesus wept… don’t ever try to say anything positive about the guy near her or you’ll get an earful.
As such — I strongly suspect I greatly lack Charlie’s gift of calm debate and persuasion.
But if you think you can, Neph — go for it. I certainly agree that a non-creepy-ass Hydra of a movement (two shall take its place) would be a fitting reaction here.
I’m far too hot-headed in person and too agnostic to be able to do what he did, much as I understand why it is effective. I can sometimes force myself to be a voice of reason in writing, where I can backspace and edit away the angry 90% of my thoughts and post the reasoned 10%. I’m trying to do that right now, but it takes effort because what I feel is not at all what I think, and the feels are louder than the thinks.
Watching Iryna looking like a terrified confused child as she died, and then watching Charlie’s head ragdoll, and reading that Charlie’s toddlers were there watching, and one of them tried to run to him because she was scared of the noise, has me feeling like I could happily kill everyone on the left, but I think that would be evil so I post this instead.
I lack the skill of debate. Having processed the information, my brain will store salient factes, jettisson a lot of cruft, including exactly where I picked up the information, and retain my conclusion based on the information. So when called on to argue a position, I will know I’m right, but lack the rhetorical talent to convey it, and not have the supporting documentation to rebut the other side.
I don’t have the temperament for that.
I used to watch Steven Crowder’s “Change my Mind” segments and was always amazed at how he stayed even keeled when the people he was talking to were saying some of the most idiotic and mean spirited crap you could imagine.
WWCKD
That single line (taken out of context, of course) is probably responsible for 80 to 90 percent of the terminal cases of TDS out there.
Ron, I think the trick is to realize that people saying mean-spirited and idiotic crap are defeating themselves, at least with regard to anyone who is the least bit persuadable. When they do that, you mentally chalk it up as a win rather than get angry by taking the chum they are putting in the water.
That and “Fine people on both sides” nonsense.
“HE SAID NAZI’S WERE FINE PEOPLE!”
who is the least bit persuadable
Interesting point – is anyone really persuadable? Are we? And if we aren’t, why would we expect those dumbasses in error to be any more so?
Interesting point – is anyone really persuadable? Are we? And if we aren’t, why would we expect those dumbasses in error to be any more so?
The guy who was just murdered seemed to have had success persuading people. In a debate you seldom persuade your opponent but the goal is to persuade members of the audience who are not locked in conflict mode.
Is anyone here so persuadable that they can imagine themself being persuaded to join the progressive camp? If not, then why assume anyone from there is going to flip the other way?
Definitely, it caused a lot of women to have a visceral reaction to him, where all of a sudden he became ever guy who was ever creepy or inappropriate towards them.
Is anyone persuadable? Team Red just voted for an Orange version of Bill Clinton twice and jettisoned their free trade and Bush-era immigration policies because he said so.
Team Blue thought Biden was sharp as a tack until they discovered how Brat Kamala was. And they were all in on Mee Tooooo until Heels Up Harris was on the ballot and suddenly fucking your boss for career advancement was cool not creepy. Overnight.
On a personal note, my positions on firearms, drugs and the drug war, foreign policy, and more recently, immigration and drug enforcement have changed over the last 30 years (the last one moving in a couple different directions). Not because some demagogue said so, but because I read more, listened more, and experienced more.
LAH I think there is a difference between persuadable and gullible, but you make a fair case that the overlap is considerable.
And yes, I’ve moved considerably over time too – but not because of any political argument from any politician or activist.
“Is anyone here so persuadable that they can imagine themself being persuaded to join the progressive camp? If not, then why assume anyone from there is going to flip the other way?”
Well, see Sasha Stone for an example of a progressive who has gone over to the Red side. And I have known, personally, several conservatives who have liberalized, so to speak. But you are the best example, as you say you have changed your positions, even if you say not from political arguments but from reading. Which are political arguments in any case.
“Major grocery chain announces plan to close 12 stores across three states in just weeks”
I hate these new kind of headlines, and “get to the fucking point!” articles.
I have to say I never shop at Safeway
And you never will
They’re not open at night?
🤔
We need to get Pie to the US, take him on a tour of the biggest stores and record his reactions.
Bucc’ees, HEB Central Market (main one in Houston), Whole Foods (Austin 6th St)… those are the ones I think would make good videos. While he’s in Houston he can see the main Spec’s and get his boozing on.
Get Pie to a Wegmans.
I can’t.
They had super high prices and closed in my town a decade ago.
If you don’t give me enough information in the headline, I’m going to assume there’s none in the article, so you don’t get my clicks either.
I tapped out early. Is there some reason why this minor story is international news?
Are you saying it’s too local???
Too local? In those food deserts?
*flips table, starts own chat room*
I would assume that the reason (drink) that Banjos included this is that, seeing that 10 of the shops are in CO and the rest in nearby areas, that the issue is with theft arising from that states laws and interpretations of such. Much like the store closures in SF.
That was my immediate thought. But the author did not seem interested in pursuing it.
I remember when the first paragraph was a summary — who, what, when, where. Now they want you to keep scrolling to see more ads.
They discovered that turning the story into an ad for the story worked better than actually reporting. I wonder if advertisers realize that paying per click means that 90+% of the clicks they are paying for tap out almost immediately when they realize they got baited again.
Last I checked, ad rates are now based on click through on the ad itself rather than views. So if there’s no conversion of views to clicks, the publication gets no money.
I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t pay out for online ads based on views.
The union should open a union owned coop.
“Put our money on the line, are you crazy?”
We have that in my town. It is exactly what you might imagine. Outrageously expensive and it smells like hippies.
“smells like hippies”
No.
Safeway, Albertsons, Tidymans, Rosaures.
All overpriced union shops.
All the big chains are unionized, I would bet.
And they’re still cheaper because of economies of scale than the non-union shops. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Grocery unions aren’t strong. In high school, I worked as a bagger and was forced to be in the union. They violated countless child labor laws, like having 15 year olds work 30 hours a week, crawl into the bailer to unjam things, skip breaks when busy. Union did jack and shit about it. They had one store that had been on strike for years and yet the store wouldn’t budge. Years. It got to where people went back to work but would picket on their spare time.
Union Scabs?
Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro Convicted of Coup Attempt, Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison
I do not know the particulars and coups are not exactly impossible in Brazil but this seems… political to me
I don’t think it’ll get that hairy at all.
Not that it was a close shave though.
ji:
I’m sure we can smooth it out.
A little wax, a little buff.
Of course it’s political, it’s what the Democrats tried to do to Trump.
Getting angry when the left steals an election is a coup.
It’s what they wanted to do to Trump.
Hopefully Jair can make it out of the country.
Independent nuclear experts huh? Who funds them?
A fella named Frank you wouldn’t know him
I think he’s Canadian.
I’m sure these experts are every bit as credentialed and reliable as climate, and health, experts.
Qatar, probably.
So … national divorce?
Not without a civil war. The left will not accept a peaceful separation.
I don’t know that I agree, though of course I don’t believe that “the left” is a thing that actually exists.
If Newsome had reacted to OMB’s re-election by saying “we’re out of here.” Would OMB have sent in the troops or would he have said “don’t let the door hit to on the way out?” If TX leaves next time a polarizing (D) takes office, would there be sufficient balls in the remainder of Congress to send in troops to reconquer? Would they have enough confidence in those troops to carry out the operation?
I don’t believe that “the left” is a thing that actually exists.
Really? A little explanation might be in order, because I’m not sure what you mean by that. Because I’m pretty sure that the political left exists.
I think NA is right. There isn’t an entity “the left,” there are people with shared/overlapping outlooks on the nature of reality, but that doesn’t make them a unified thing that can agree or not agree to something like a separation. Ditto ‘the right’.
The left seems more unified to us because we are viewing their beliefs from a greater distance ideologically, and that causes a sort of foreshortening effect where the differences among them disappear. Our own internal differences seem magnified because we are viewing them from up close.
The left will not accept a peaceful separation.
How can they? Do they just accept that the right is going to control practically all of the land?
I was think about that last night and again this morning reading Kunstler’s weekly piece. There are useful idiots out there who believe all the nonsense. But the ones using them as pawns and buying off our governments are exploitative globalists.
https://www.kunstler.com/p/exorcism-nigh
There isn’t an entity “the left,” there are people with shared/overlapping outlooks on the nature of reality, but that doesn’t make them a unified thing that can agree or not agree to something like a separation.
Sometimes I forget we are mostly a bunch of pedantic autists. Of course “the left” is shorthand for describing a cohort of people who share mostly similar political and social opinions and also goals. And they currently wield power within one of the two major parties. So they actually do have influence as to what happens with regard to this nation.
What (((Jarflax said.
Abstract entities do not actually exist. Only concrete things exist in the real world. We use abstractions as a shorthand because to actually communicate (even internally) the real chain of events is too complicated. “The State” (deep or otherwise) doesn’t do things. An actual human (could be motivated by political bias, a sense of duty, ambition for power, w/e) gives an order, it gets passed along through a chain of people who obey for any number of possible reasons, and is implemented by yet another human or group of humans who are themselves motivated by an number of possible reasons (just want to keep their job, sexual sadism, who knows?)
It’s just extremely difficult/impossible to hold all the parts of that chain in your head at the same time. So an entity is postulated that has agency. This entity is post-facto developed so it will necessarily beautifully postdict any actions “it undertook” but will also necessarily will be overfitted to the data. Which means when you use any anthropomorphic traits you’ve assigned to it in its creation to predict actions this entity will undertake in differing circumstances involving differing individual humans the model doesn’t work so well.
TL;DR: Psychohistory is bunk.
NA: Pedant, pedant
pedant pedant pedant
pedant pedaaaant
(to the tune of Pink Panther)
Sometimes I forget we are mostly a bunch of pedantic autists
Ackchyually, only some of us are autists.
When things surprise you, it’s proof that the model you’re using for prediction is wrong.
Individual humans in the chain of events cans and do supremely alter the “motivations” of abstractions. Have we already forgotten how much “The GOP” has changed in the last 12 years? “The GOP’s” “goals” didn’t change, Trump was pushing his personal goals (and/or allowing particular underlings to do so) into the mass of people motivated by careerism, power seeking, lib-pwning or w/e.
“The left seems more unified to us because we are viewing their beliefs from a greater distance ideologically”
I think all studies showed there is less diversity of though in the left than the right, so the left is more unified in group think.
buying off our governments are exploitative globalists
I have to wonder when this will come back to (((them))).
only some of us are autists
And the truly special are autistes!
so the left is more unified in group think
Says the man that routinely dumps Trotskyite links here.
We’re not even all that unified in our own skins as individual entities, much less as aggregates around ideologies. This thing is really driving that home to me, because as I said above the whole reason Charlie Kirk was so effective is that he was able to push down anger and hatred and approach people who were often screaming hostility in his face with calm civility. Yet despite the obvious lesson in that effectiveness, I viscerally want to agree with the hotheads on ‘our side’ about flipping the switch. It would satisfy a deep dark part of my soul to see that. It would not move the country in a direction I want; however, so I am trying very hard to keep that nasty part of me in check and to pretend to reasonableness until, God willing, I actually can be reasonable.
Abstract entities do not actually exist.
This kind of thinking is a big reason why I consider myself closer to a Christian nationalist than a libertarian these days.
Sorry, but anybody who has observed any of the social phenomena of the past few years sees the obvious subjugation of the weak willed to broader forces. Can those broader forces be explained in an individualistic way? I guess. It’s a bit like explaining the physics of the solar system on the atomic level, though. Maybe technically correct, but entirely pointless and pedantic.
There aren’t a zillion leftists out there glorifying a gruesome murder because they each, independently and using their reasoning faculties, decided that it was a good sentiment to express. They’re a part of a culture (eww, icky collectivist word 🙄) that glorifies violence against its enemies. Their reactions have been influenced and even programmed by their culture, and it’s a sick culture that needs to be destroyed.
The left is a thing and it has passed its expiration date.
Trotskyite links – one needs know what the revisionists are saying, to defend the revolution
so the left is more unified in group think
Says the man that routinely dumps Trotskyite links here.
I have tried to read an online fight between an An com and a an actual tankie, with a side fight between both and a Maoist and a Hoxhaist (which is why I know there is such a thing as a Hoxhaist), from my perspective I could kind of see that the an com was different from the others, but as far as understanding the points on which the others differed I was lost. I imagine any of them would find the arguments here between Constitutional Conservatives, An Caps, and Minarchists equally arcane.
Except that statement is completely false*, or at best, no more pointless** and pedantic than trying to model groups of people in the first place.
*show me literally any model of group human behavior that is as predictive as and 18th century model of orbital mechanics. I’ll wait.
**Since one never interacts with abstractions, why would you use your groupmodel in place of actual information available about the person you’re interacting with? Lots of people enjoy mental masturbation, and that’s valid but a silly reason to decry people who don’t like your genre of mindpr0n as being somehow lesser.
Here’s the problem: murdering people at random is bad, are we agreed on that? But killing an individual person in defense of another person is not, yes?. When you personify abstractions you’ve now created a legitimate excuse to kill people and the only thing that makes the Holocaust and/or Holodomor and/or 9/11 bad is you don’t personally like the abstraction being used as a justification.
Whee! We’re all nihilists now!
Along with what NA is saying, that there isn’t a static “Left” (or Right, for that matter) , the many of the predicate conditions for a civil war like the last one do not exist. While the country is deeply divided, the states do not have standing army’s, nor is there a clear-cut physical division between the two supposed sides.
What we would more likely get is a rising level of sectarian violence as seen in places like Northern Ireland during the Troubles, or Algeria during the French colonial period. IE terrorism at various levels of intensity.
There are overlapping beliefs that in the aggregate make up abstractions that we call “the Left” and “Christianity,” but while they may be useful on some abstract level, and are absolutely useful as rhetorical shorthand, they don’t actually tell you more than very broad strokes about an individual member of the groups. I am not saying that you cannot use the broad generalities to align yourself in the world, and I am certainly not arguing against using the prejudgments these abstractions allow to guide general actions like selecting a residence or avoiding an area. But if you try to use them for more than that sort of broad stroke judgment when dealing with individuals they will mislead you.
They’re a part of a culture
Yep, and all cultures have sub-cultures. It’s a very human thing to do to take a sub-culture, particularly a fringe-ish one, and present it as characteristic of the larger culture. Not that anyone around here would ever do such a thing.
…terrorism at various levels of intensity.
And the worst part is that terrorism won’t be targeted just at the opposite side, but at any who aren’t beholding to one side or the other in order to cow them into compliance.
It’s a very human thing to do to take a sub-culture, particularly a fringe-ish one, and present it as characteristic of the larger culture.
Or switch the direction around when it is a fring-ish sub-culture of a culture you belong to, and play no true Scotsman to distance yourself from that fringe.
“There isn’t a left as a single coherent entity” strikes me as similar to “There’s no Epstein client list”.
Hyper-literal, so I suppose technically correct. But kinda missing the point.
Yep, and all cultures have sub-cultures.
Sure, and subcultures have tribes and tribes have people. Great, now it’s really pointless to talk about anything broader than Sandra down at the Publix because nobody else aligns exactly with her way of thinking. Nevermind that her way of thinking is aligned with many others in many fundamental ways, ways that we use words like “culture” and “society” to describe.
This radical individualism crap is annoyingly pedantic. “Oh, well, that guy breaking bread with a guy who called for more assassinations may not believe in more assassinations himself, so we should give him the benefit of the doubt as an individual….”
Or, maybe, he should distance himself from ghouls lest he be mistaken for one and get caught up in the consequences.
What IS the point, beyond “rarglebargle I don’t like these people (that I invented my head)?”
Strawmanning is beneath you.
What IS the point, beyond “rarglebargle I don’t like these people (that I invented my head)?”
I can see why Ozy has such a low opinion of you.
Bye.
Radical individualism? Not at all, or if so, it is in the Solzenhitsyn-esque sense that the line between good and evil runs through every human heart.
A leftist reading this blog would assume we all are one monolithic mindset. Which is just funny, isn’t it?
But kinda missing the point.
I trust the point being you could expose all of them and none of them will suffer any consequences?
I can’t speak for NA, but I am not saying you cannot use the different levels of abstraction. I am saying you should use the level that works best for a given type of interaction. This really isn’t all that controversial, at least as I mean it. If you are deciding which club, church, or political party to join a very high level of abstraction is probably called for. If you are deciding who should be jailed you want the most concrete level. And in terms of the “great divorce” what would need to be decided is not all that clear. Who gets to live in Conservatopia? Who gets to live in Progtopia?
Do we decide based on Party membership? So that puts me in with Cheney and Murkowski I guess. Religion? Where do the atheist libertarians go? Whose definition of Christianity do we use? All Protestants in one group? All traditional Christians, including Catholics? Mormons? Unitarians?
Whose definition of Christianity do we use?
Bingo.
This is the reason that Christian-nationalism is a useless bogeyman for me. I know all too well how factious Christianity is. Let one sect become strong enough to actually rule, and all of the others will unite to tear that one down.
There aren’t a zillion leftists out there glorifying a gruesome murder because they each, independently and using their reasoning faculties, decided that it was a good sentiment to express. They’re a part of a culture (eww, icky collectivist word 🙄) that glorifies violence against its enemies.
But Trashie, there are also some people on the left out there calling this out, so on some level yes, they did independently decide. They may have decided purely emotionally, most people do, but at the end of the day they did decide. It is easier, and more comfortable, to reduce them to NPCs puppeted by the leftist ideological cloud but it is exactly the opposite of what Charlie Kirk devoted his life to doing, and doing with significant success.
Seriously.
What is the point of having an amorphous, indefinite “The Left” (or “the Right”) in your thinking? Not your rhetoric, that’s a bog-standard trick that predated Socrates.
What makes *it* so useful but recognizing the falsity of that category “pedantic?”
There is no left, we repeat as we are marched to the gulag.
The left is a bunch of interconnected ideas that have been refined and pushed to the point they have great cultural power over many millions of people, most of whom nevwr have an idea or thought of their own. The go with watever fashionable nonseslnse satisfies their base emotions. The left has been marching through institutions for 100 years and despite not existing is on the verge of destroying civilazation.
Marched to the gulag next to a bunch of people who we would regard as part of the left who didn’t pick the right brand. There are leftist ideas; there are people who hold some or all of them; there are social groupings like Parties which organize around holding some or all of those beliefs. But the borders are always going to be fuzzy because “the Left’ is an abstraction.
I’m not with NA in denying there is a point to abstractions. They are useful situationally. But it is also useful to keep in mind that this sort of abstraction includes both the antifa guy who thinks he is fighting a civil war and the ditzy chick who believes a bunch of silliness her teachers pushed on her, but is personally entirely peaceful.
The ditzy chick enables everyrhing antifa wants. Maybe just more slowly
There is no left, we repeat as we are marched to the gulag.
Exactly how is that different from the idiots screaming about how we are under fascist rule right now?
The ditzy chick enables everyrhing antifa wants. Maybe just more slowly
Ok, in a shooting war do we shoot her? Or would you agree that she represents a different kind of ‘opponent’ than the murderous radical? This is the context in which I am pushing back against using the more abstract level of categorization. On ordinary days I am fine with using the shorthand, but we are in ugly territory now and I think it calls for a bit more care.
If there are guys with guns and trucks rounding up people hand hauling them away, is it more important that you know their politics or you get out of their way– unless you’re on “their team?”
Why are people getting so insistent that their mental model a) has to be real and b) is the proper way of predicting the future?
It is different because we are not under a fascist rule right now by a proper definition of fascism, though some may argue we are under a soft fascism in general.
On the other hand the political left exists. Or maybe the massive tax and spend welfare states are just a figment of my imagination.
I think i will stop this conversation as it ia getting silly. Seem to me there is a performative attempt at some high groud or other.
Right there are no groups no politics no left no right no libertarians there is no state no ideology nothing. We all life in a glorious individualist anarchy. The Ancaps will be thrilled.
What, you mean the Tories? Or the Big Beautiful Bill?
Tax and Spend/Welfare state is a thing. It’s not uniquely associated with “trans all the kids.”
Shooting wars have nothing to do with the left existing. Also i cant shoot anuone as i dont have guns. Who you shoild i cannot say.
The torries absolutly are the left in anything but name.
On the other hand the political left exists.
The progressive faction in this country is greater than the libertarian faction, but the progs do not rule the Democratic party – though both they and some from the opposite side like to believe they do.
The tankie faction in this country is dwarfed by the Libertarian Party.
A good argument can be made that we are a soft fascist country – but not because of Trump (which is what the morons really believe).
I’m getting too far into arguing to win mode here so I’ll drop this. All I was really interested in saying is that different contexts call for different levels of abstraction, and I have now said that too many times.
The left is global amd in control of the overton window. Not really country or party linked. And this is my las comment.
They depend on the productive too much to let them leave without a fight.
“Libertarian” = “Chase Oliver” is why I’m not a Libertarian.
Needs to happen. Unlikely. But vastly MORE likely than devolving power from the FedGov.
My guess is trantifa and antifa get labeled as terrorists and enemies of the state and hunted down relentlessly.
The Democrats will never let that happen.
Yesterday NPR was back to blaming political violence on Trump ending the FBI’s focus on right wingers.
What are the democrats going to do? Shoot more of us?
WTF:
I don’t think the Democrats have much of a choice now. I would not be surprised to see actual attacks on antifa moving forward.
“trantifa and antifa”
Same thing as far as I can tell. Like that asshole “super soldier” who claimed to be trans, latino, and muslim.
I don’t think the Democrats have much of a choice now.
Democrats are gonna Democrat. Just look at how they hooted and hollered over a request for a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family. They don’t think anything’s changed, and they will continue to act in accordance with their nature.
Trans, Latino and Muslim? This is the only country I can think of where you can pull that off and not get the noose.
“…no compromise with people who want you dead” can be summed up in one word: War.
That is what they want. When it doesn’t go like they fantasize it will there will be no end of crying foul from them. Tough shit.
Is Trump really going to follow the money and hold responsible the people actually perpetrating these evils? Ok, Mr. Two-scoops….I will hold my breath and cross my fingers. For a while. Let’s see it.
He damn well should. Any major donors should be hunted down across the world. Soros included.
Exactly what I have in mind RJ.
It is long overdue. It’s not like no one knows who the responsible parties are or that it is impossible to follow the money trail.
Please

We’ll see if this one stays arrested.
‘It was a minister who was involved with law enforcement… his good friend is a top U.S. Marshal – and they took it from there,’ Trump said, suggesting that the suspect’s father told him it was time to turn themselves in.
The God police caught the shooter
So Trump being Trump he is unclear if he means bio father or clergy father.
If the shooter is a PK (pastor’s kid) I am actually not shocked
Who’s worse, the pastor’s kid or the cop’s kid? I was friends with a cop’s kid. The kid stole his dad’s taser (the hand held early ones) and tasered his principal. He was fun to hang out with.
Tell me said cop dad gave him the belt until he was black and blue for that.
Electrocuting someone is beyond the pale. I don’t care if it was a principal.
DrOtto:
Dating a pastor’s daughter was a good time…
I know a bunch of prog pastors. They are like Pope Francis commies first. Full of vitriol. They are saving the world (not God. Who knowingly or not in their worldview see as small and distant)
I’ve read some of their pastor only FB pages it’s disgusting.
“The Sin of Pride,” the Devil Cried, “Is what will do you in.”
@UCS – He was actually actually expelled, arrested and charged for assault. Can’t recall the outcome of the charges (he was still just barely a minor at the time), but they didn’t just let the incident slide.
I’ve read some of their pastor only FB pages it’s disgusting.
I’ve seen and heard (from my wife) of a few acquaintances from former churches who are saying some rather unchristian things right now.
The church has a leftism problem, and it’s past time to fix it. The days of “take some from the right and some from the left and find a third way” died with Tim Keller. The days of “sit quietly and respect differences in politics” died with Charlie Kirk. Demonic behavior from professing Christians cannot be allowed.
Unless the principal died, he wasn’t electrocuted.
Sorry but English includes the common vernacular.
trshmnstr:
I’m pretty sure I’m much less likely to leave alone a progressive blurting out their talking points going forward.
T&T, they are Legion.
I’m shocked that you would make that argument, Gustave.
BWAHAHAhahahahahahaha
So the FBI did not really do much of anything.
I suppose it was always a waiting game.
It did take them 5 days to track down Luigi who was a complete doofus.
They likely have the right one. Now lets see if there is a string to pull on.
And if they have the balls to actually pull it.
People on X have been focusing on this guy(?) for days. Posted some threating stuff about Kirk early in the week.
https://x.com/knox_yann/status/1966480224465395712
I assume this means that his socials have been preserved?
My suspicion is that a good part of those who cheer Kirk’s death are paid provocateurs
They always are. Should be easier to hunt down the funding sources now that USAID is out of the picture.
That may be a good part, but I have seen more than a few official communications from schools and companies about firing people for insensitive comments. It appears our schools, universities, and hospitals are chock full of these goons.
Nevermind the people we personally know who have said varying degrees of disgusting things over the past 48 hours.
Yeah, there’s been quite a few firings, suspensions, and cancellations of contracts being reported that I’ve seen based on celebratory posts.
The writer for Red Hood has been a PR headache for some time now. So this is more of a final straw than sole cause item for DC.
Look at the person who has editing privilege and can approve his own posts with three links….
Ted S.:
Even worse, I didn’t have to approve it.
I’ll do my best not to let this power go to my head.
UnCivil: I think damn near all of the firings were people who were on the final straw with management. The kind of people who would publicly celebrate this are perpetual assholes who make trouble for management all the time.
“ It appears our schools, universities, and hospitals are chock full of these goons.”
academics and giant HR departments full of AWFLs no surprise there.
You can probably post images, too….
That would be preferable in many ways but, sadly, I’m certain there is no shortage of people who genuinely think it was a good thing.
I think it’s more likely they are all just batshit-insane lefties brainwashed by “education” and social media.
Useful idiots wouldn’t be so useful if there weren’t so many idiots.
I trust them to fuck up on their own just fine — no payment required.
are paid provocateurs
You mean like this?
Administrative leave is still paid leave, right?
My suspicion is that a goodly number are just ordinary democrats who are just honest.
I think I’ve managed to place the feeling I’ve had since the assassination. It’s the same I felt about a week before the lockdowns really started getting announced in 2020.
I do not like this feeling.
You have summarized my thoughts as well.
There is a fear between action and overreaction.
Scott Adams just now: Your body feels like you’re at war and your village has been invaded.
It was invaded over a century ago.
Also Scott Adams: You have no freewill.
So why does he tweet incessantly and express opinions on the issues of the day and the idiots that comment on the issues of the day? It’s not like those idiots have any choice in what they say/do/post.
I know, Scott has no free will and must therefore comment on the idiocy.
Stoicism is hard to find this morning.
I made the mistake of looking at X this morning.
All I saw were people posting short clips of him saying things, totally out of context and not finishing the thought.
Then “Look he was such a racist! Why would I feel sad!”
I hate people.
My wife knew a lot more about him than I did and she is sad about it, luckily for her sanity, she never reads X.
X is a fucking cancer. Sorry Elon, but it’s true.
xsocial media is a fucking cancer.FIFY.
I imagine Bluesky is filled with horrible shit that somehow is acceptable to their posting standards.
You misspelled “social media.” If you think X is horrible go over to Reddit (or 4Chan for a right wing equivalent).
slumbrew:
What is Blueskyism?
And why is it so toxic for political persuasion?
Political persuasion? You mean try to convince people I’m right rather than them just accepting the fact? When it is so obvious?
Talk about The Culture of Narcissism.
X is absolutely fucking great imo.
The same people are still in control of it.
The lefties never get banned.
I was really delighted to see the videos from Nepal of politicians being beaten, stripped naked, and run through the streets.
I was somewhat disheartened to hear that the protests were sparked off by the Nepali government trying to ban social media.
If it makes you feel better, I read that the social media ban was *because* of how it was being used to spread badfacts about the politicians who then banned social media.
We have different feeds. Mine is overwhelmingly positive of him.
I don’t follow anyone and seem to have a bad habit of reading idiots when I do go on it, so it probably thinks that’s what I want to see.
I don’t actually follow anybody, but I do click on the hearts, so that apparently determines what I see.
I have my feed pretty well curated. I’m seeing a lot of tributes, because most of the people I follow were in the same circle as he was. They were on his show, he was on their show, that sort of thing. But like Tucker Carlson, Kirk had a big circle and would talk to anyone.
Elon banned me within days of me getting on X. Probably to my benefit.
What did you do to manage to get banned by Elon?
You can literally say the n word and propose to blow shit up there.
I was accused of “Inauthentic behavior,” whatever that means. I appealed twice and never got an answer. All I did was look at cat videos and read comments on news posts.
“Computer says no.”
Surely some faulty algorithm.
Elon banned me this spring.
No reason given.
Was given the ability to appeal so I kept asking what I did. It never responded, no posts were requested to be removed, a week prior I had one that was listed as being limited visibility.
About two months FB banned me for being a bot, only account I have ever had since 08-09, listed as “account integrity.”
I think the platforms are sharing information on people they have banned.
Urthona, you can not engage with or question homosexuals civilly.
That is verboten , I think that’s what got me banned from X. They ganged up on me and accused me of being a murderous pedophile. A few days later perma banned.
If you do want to wade into that sewer, Ron, the only response is to point out that they are making the case that MLK’s assassin was right. I mean, he said inflammatory things that a lot of people hated, right? Or maybe the assassins of either Kennedy brother? Or that it is OK to shoot Gandhi, or anyone else that says something you don’t like.
As a confirmed open carrier, at least Florida had some good news.
How does banning open carry not violate the 2nd Amendment?
Because shut up. – New York.
The logic as I understand it, you have a right to bear arms in public, but the state can regulate the manner of doing so. So as long as you permit concealed carry you can ban open and vice versa.
Obviously several decades of judges, legislators and other assholes and I greatly differ on the simple meaning of the word “infringe”.
According to Bruen, it doesn’t pass muster due to a lack of history and tradition of banning open carry.
Yeah, I believe under Bruen you could probably get away with banning concealed carry, but not open.
The problem for Roberts and those people trying to keep SCOTUS relevant is that open carry freaks the normies out, whereas concealed prevents 911 calls.
The last person I saw open carrying (I forget which state it was) had their holster in a position where it would have been easier for me to take their gun than for them to stop me. I had no intention of taking the thing, but the “You’re a hazard” thought made it stick in my mind.
The issue was exacerbated by the way he was leaning on the counter with the holster-bearing hip pointed away from it.
open carry freaks the normies out, whereas concealed prevents 911 calls.
That’s the precise reason NJ switched to banning open carry after Bruen when they were forced to become a “shall issue” state.
Roberts is primarily concerned about not making things difficult. The Penaltax is good evidence of that.
That’s what is always said, but the reality is most people don’t notice or care.
In 12 years of open carrying regularly, I had one teacher looking lady tell me she was offended as if that meant something, and I have been kicked out of one store.
Ron, I suspect that will vary based upon where you are.
The truth is I rarely see open carry people anyway even a deep red state.
Ron, I suspect that will vary based upon where you are.
Bingo. When NJ was first forced to become a shall issue state, the law didn’t discriminate between open and concealed carry. The normies started seeing people with guns on their hip, and freaked out and called 911. The legislature then passed a law limiting carrying to concealed only.
I don’t carry where it’s illegal, and I don’t go to big cities often, so I’m sure that helps.
I also very rarely see anyone else doing it.
I occasionally see it in Arizona. When I have, odds are it was somebody on a motorcycle, which may have something to do with it.
Funny, because the 1987 allowed shall issue concealed carry and made Florida one of the first states to do so. What a difference 4 decades makes.
Florida and Texas are way behind on gun rights.
Behind who?
…just in case I decide to relocate in retirement.
Doesn’t Florida have constitutional carry now?
“I’m certain there is no shortage of people who genuinely think it was a good thing.”
We are looking at a huge mess. It seems impossible to clean up…where to even start?
Right there. *points finger* Start right there. One bite at a time. Sweep up one turd at a time. Start taking steps in the right direction. The only other option is to continue the slide into hell, so get started.
For starters, every college president needs to grow a nut and take out the garbage. And no, “tenure” does not give you a pass to incite violence.

one of the the greatest crimes of recent history is that communism and nazism are not seen on the same level of evil
Those 100 million dead were collateral damage in service to a good cause would be her view I’d imagine. Someone like that’d say the same thing about any one of us too.
If she’s truly dedicated, they weren’t collateral damage – it was necessary to remove obstacles in the way of the workers’ paradise. No regrets about that.

Still, his charisma is a full several tiers down from Charlie Kirk so they may need to work on getting someone.

Yup. Boiler-plate buzzword trendiness.

I have to hand it to the folks at Daily Mail for getting that much research done so fast.

I heard there was one of those in our town. A teacher at the high school posted something vile like that. The local GOP took screen shots and posted those with the teacher’s email from the school’s web site. “These are the people teaching your kids.”
As long as this was all public information, fine by me.

The vast majority of criminal investigation is finding people socially connected to the victim, and looking at their behavior around the time of the crime.
If there’s no such connection, and the criminal doesn’t leave behind any obvious evidence, then the chances of getting away with it skyrocket.

Fantastic. That gator is not really so big anyway, it fit in a cart. And he dressed it.

Gators have wider, shovel-shaped mouths. Crocs have narrower, triangular mouths. That’s a Gator.

That was kind of my reaction. The owner strikes me as the kind of eccentric we should be tolerant of.
Now, at some point, that alligator is going to get too big, and then way too big, to be out in public.
Not if it’s captive. Alligator’s growth is inhibited by the amount of living space they have.

I’m not convinced a singular 22yo rando acted alone just ‘cuz.
In the meantime, I’ve had to soothe myself with retail therapy: pens (and if you think anything but Pilot Precise V5 roller ball pens are the superior pen of pens, you are objectively wrong), fresh journals, pencil boxes, and Post-It flags make almost everything better.
.5mm mechanical pencil and uni-ball signo 207 pen.
I believe my very beloved mechanical pencil is 0.5mm. I got it 36 years ago and have never let go of it.
Looking at my Uni Signo 207 and Uni Kuru Toga 0.5. I still have my German mechanical pencils from drafting class somewhere (STAEDTLER).
Timeloose knows whats up
I need more Post-It flags in my life and need to stop using ripped-up full-sized Post-Its with my cookbooks.
Flags and tags, man. Flags and tags.
I have somewhat more confidence that, if he didn’t act alone, we’ll find out who else was involved, since for once the dead guy is on the same team as the administration. Plus, Trump holds grudges like a champ, and I suspect he’s feeling pretty grudgy about this one.
I’d give it a 99% chance he acted alone.
I think alone, supposedly a student a week ago noticed him or someone who looked like him casing the roof.
What?! No opinion on the Objectively Best Pen Ever?!?
I have so little to write by hand that I don’t have an opinion.
Blackwing pencils.
I am objectively wrong. Uniball and Zebra. I’ve been moving to 1.0mm tips and I like those too.
I moved away from 0.7mm down to 0.5mm. I can’t stand anything bigger than 0.5mm now.
I do occasionally have to use something other than roller ball (e.g., thermal paper), and for those, I just use plain Bic crystal pens medium point. Cheap and dependable. I can keep them everywhere.
I went the other direction. I love the smooth writing of the larger tips. Also, can see without reading glasses.
Unfortunately my retail therapy skyrocketed in price to over $2k for a decent card and many thousands for a workstation class processor.
I suppose I could induldge and move from a 7950X to a 9950X3D for the lols… but really, I doubt I’d see a real difference to justify it in my workloads. But it would at least verge on affordable comparably.
Come on at some point an X090 Nvidia card will be less than $2k.
/s Guy who wonders how he will ever replace his 3080 card
PS – as long as the AI craze continues Nvidia has zero incentive to allocate its fab reservation wafers to gaming GPUs.
I hope he wasn’t acting alone. It’s much easier to follow electronic trails and arrest 12 conspirators than to just wait around and hope you catch the next lone wolf in time.
You’ve clearly never experienced the sublime joy of an OHTO Rays Flash Dry 0.5mm gel needle-point…
So, pens fetish?
It’s probably the least disgusting of my fetishes.
The pen is kinkier than the sword
Yes, I am 12. I made that lame joke just to type pen is
The sword is mighty.
The pen is mightier!

Montblanc would like a word.
0.5 mm pencil uber alles.
I hate pens. Especially gel pens. I begrudgingly use the Bic Round stick in black for logbook purposes.
So, fine paper, writing devices, drawing aids plus infinite posibilities….I am not the only one. Just the smell of new paper and ink….Mojeaux, you get me.

Casing writings were interestingly weird.
It was only a matter of time. They had videos, photos, palm prints, and DNA evidence.
Some of the scuttlebutt this am is that there’s no casing writing, and the agents were referring to headstamps – not knowing what they were. This sounds frankly incredible, but we’ll see.
Nah governor read out the writings…catch facist! A reference to an Italian WW2 anti-facist song and a few others.
agents were referring to headstamps
Diversity hires?
Well that would be a logical assumption, but looking at the briefings coming up now, it looks like the headstamp thing early was wrong.
As much as I dislike Firearms Branch, they are in no way stupid enough to confuse a Turkish surplus 8mm Mauser case headstamp with a political message.
“A federal judge on Thursday blocked the Trump administration policy barring illegal alien children from enrolling in Head Start, a Department of Health and Human Services program assisting with early childhood education.
Judge Ricardo Martinez issued the nationwide block, saying “this chilling effect results in the immediate harm of childhood education loss, disability support, dual language instruction, and stable learning environments, leading to long-term harms in development,” The Hill reported.”
https://justthenews.com/government/courts-law/judge-blocks-trump-ban-illegals-enrolling-head-start

Silly is a speck in the rear view.
As usual the judge offers no actual constitutional rationale. Talk about where we need a purge.

“Cox added that the rifle found was determined to be a Mauser model 9836 caliber, a type of bolt-action firearm, that had a scope mounted on top of it.”
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2025/sep/12/charlie-kirk-shooter-suspect-latest-news-updates-donald-trump-utah
“Model 9836”?
WTF is that?
Model 98 is the Mauser action that a bunch of various manufacturers used.
I’m not a rifle guy, but I believe the Springfield 1903 licensed the Mauser design, for example.
I’ve no idea what 36 appended to it means, however.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the firearm experts at The Guardian shortened .30-06 to 36, however…
My guess was “Chambered in 30-06“
Shitty copy/paste AI transcription of .30-06
Model 98 is the Mauser action that a bunch of various manufacturers used.
I know. I have several.
I’m not a rifle guy, but I believe the Springfield 1903 licensed the Mauser design, for example.
Yes. I think there was a lawsuit involved which triggered the license payments from the US Government to Mauser Oberndorf a/N.
I’ve no idea what 36 appended to it means, however.
That’s why I’m saying WTF? There is no Mauser 9836 that I’ve ever heard of.
.30-06 being shortened to 36 either by shitty AI or shitty Guardian writers makes the most sense.
The actual quote:
Cox added that the rifle found was determined to be a Mauser model 98, in 30-06 caliber, a type of bolt-action firearm, that had a scope mounted on top of it.
If it’s an actual ’98 in 30-06 (as opposed to a commercial sporter based on the ’98 pattern), it’s been customized by a gunsmith. Which ought to help narrow the provenance.
Peru, Morocco, Colombia, and probably a few others converted their military Mausers to .30-06 after the Second World War. Though, technically, since known of them used Gewehr 98s they weren’t 98s, they were later variants based on the 98 by FN, Brno, and other manufacturers. I’d have to check Ball’s book to get all the model numbers correct.
None of them would have had a scope in military service from what I remember of Ball’s book.
And then you have all the military Mausers being converted after being surplused.
It really doesn’t narrow the provenance at all.
It doesn’t really matter, but I have a bottle of mid-range booze that says the murder weapon was an inexpensive modern Turkish sporter built on the Mauser ’98 pattern.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, NATO has focused on trying to deter an attack on its own territory and avoid all-out war with nuclear armed Russia. Now the time has come for NATO to defend itself, and European allies might have to do it alone, experts and leaders say.
As it has attacked Ukraine, Russia has incessantly harassed Kyiv’s European backers. Warplanes and ships have breached NATO airspace and waters. Transport and communications networks have been sabotaged in attacks blamed on Russia. Disinformation campaigns have sought to undermine support and weaken unity. Putin opponents have been poisoned in Europe in the past too.
But the flight of multiple Russian drones over Poland this week marks a clear escalation, experts say. NATO responded with overwhelming force. Cheap drones were shot down with high-tech military kit and top-line F-35 jets were deployed. A costly exercise.
Russia’s armed forces said they weren’t targeting Poland. Belarus suggested the drones veered off course, perhaps due to jamming.
Meanwhile, we and NATO pursue war by other means against the Russians.
How much longer will we be able to keep the genie in the bottle?
How much longer will we be able to keep the genie in the bottle?
How quickly can we cut off the hands of the neo-cons trying to open it?
There are 3 Safeways in Loveland, CO that are too damn close to each other. I wonder if one of them is on the hit list.
Meanwhile, east side of Loveland still doesn’t have a grocery store at all, other than Walmart.
Safeway recently bought out Albertsons. First you buy out, then you consolidate and close redundant locations.
This isn’t hard.
IIRC, there is a proposed merger with Kroger, that is facing anti-trust investigation. I know CO is opposing the merger. I am thinking that they may have to sell off the Safeways in CO in order for the merger to go forward and getting rid of redundant stores makes the sale more appealing.
I just mapped them out, the two “outer” Safeways are 2.6 miles apart, with the third along the drive path about halfway between them.
It’s “unclear what more – if anything – the U.S. is willing to do to strengthen NATO air defenses. So far, we’ve seen Europeans operating U.S. platforms without a direct American military role,” NATO’s longest-serving spokesperson Oana Lungescu, now an expert at the RUSI think tank, said on social media.
NATO relies on U.S. leadership, but the Trump administration insists that Europe must now take care of its own security, and that of Ukraine.
Europe’s leaders have condemned the drone incident and promised action. President Donald Trump has said that it “could have been a mistake.”
Trump is abandoning Europe. He’s hanging them out to dry.
Yep, to a country that has a GDP in the neighborhood of Italy or Spain. They could at least try for a credible threat – but then they’d have to look at who they’ve allowed to migrate into Europe.
Draft all the ME immigrants and send them to fight Russia?
“Hey, we didn’t come here for THAT!”
Tater, there were plenty of snackbars at the beginning of the fight but they have been missing recently sadly.
The August Monthly US Treasury statement is out.
For the month of August, total receipts are up over last year ($307 billion v. $344 billion). Total outlays for the month are about the same as last year’s ($689 billion v. $687 billion). The FoxNews story Banjo linked earlier this week is correct about tariff revenue: it is $30 billion for the month of August.
The Federal Government’s fiscal year ends Sept. 30th. I’ll take a look at the fiscal year data when it is available.

Looks like I should be ready to pick up a Switch 2 sometime next year.
I would have assumed from some of your comments here that you already owned some restraints and a switch or two.
Why vegan burgers are losing the US culture war over meat: ‘Not our moment’
A lot of moralizing and all but they get to the reason.
My opinion is that ‘vegan’ food shouldn’t try to ape meat. They should be their own thing. It’d be easier to convince people to try this other dish which happens to be vegan rather than going “Meat is murder, eat this non-meat mash”
Yep. Coworker is a vegetarian, not militant about it and laments how they try amd say “its ”
He acknowledges that its not and it is a disservice to truly vegetarian based cuisines.
Cannibalism is bad. Have you tried this plant based human leg?
Black bean burgers are not bad. And they don’t pretend to be meat.
It’s not just that – many vegans choose that diet for health reasons. Fake meat is just salt and carbs. The nutritional value is the same as a bag of chips and a lot less tasty.
Health reasons? Like trusting the science TM.
“Right-wing activists have launched an online doxxing campaign in the wake of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s death — and the Trump administration is joining in.
Chaya Raichik, a far-right activist who targets LGBTQ+ people online under the moniker “Libs of TikTok,” has been among the most active in highlighting insensitive comments since Kirk died.”

I don’t think people should be canceled for having “wrong” opinions.
WWCKD?
What did they think would happen though?
No, they shouldn’t be canceled, but I’ve got no problem with them getting fired and shunned by polite society.
From the very end of the article:
I’m much more OK with this on written comments.
The random non-contextual video that has somebody saying a racial slur with no context that gets he or she fired is much more concerning.
They’re doxxing the person who is doxxing people?
People should not be cancelled, but employers should be aware of the biases of those in positions of power over others. If there’s a bigot process engineer, that’s no reason to fire them. It is a reason to keep them off the hiring committee or management.
This is not doxxing. They are taking public information from social media, i.e. the person has listed their employer on Facebook. The “activists” just send a link to the employer to make sure they know what kind of person they are employing. It’s up to the employer to make a decision.
And none of these people are getting banned from social media or put on a government watch list. (That we know of).
“LGBTQ+ people” is doing an awful lot of heavy lifting there. Exactly as designed by the radical tranny activist set.
Never change, Salon.
My bank has been bought/merged with another bank. This does not please me. It is now time to change over. We’ll see how that goes.
At least it wasn’t bought by Wells Fargo. If it had been, the account would already have been closed/moved.
Don’t worry – Wells Fargo opened one for you already regardless.
Sustainability is a consideration for only a very small portion of the population
Quite possibly because “sustainability” as you define it is vapid nonsense.
Sounds like the shooter is a leftist (no surprise but pretty much confirmed):

No, they shouldn’t be canceled, but I’ve got no problem with them getting fired and shunned by polite society.
“You’re too stupid to work here” is an eminently reasonable cause for dismissal.
They can’t be trusted AND they have bad judgement are good enough reasons.
“Nuh uh, you were stupid enough to hire me.”
Someone above suggested that most of the people being fired were already on their last legs with management anyway.
This dovetails nicely with my theory that many Progs are Progs because they’re assholes in general, and spouting Prog opinions allows them to express their assholishness and get social credit for it.
They haven’t gotten the memo that times have changed, and they can no longer get away with spouting that garbage without consequence.
I am 99% sure that is an Iron Law, not a theory.
The random non-contextual video that has somebody saying a racial slur with no context that gets he or she fired is much more concerning.
Especially if it’s ten years old.
Especially if they were 10 when they said it.

Fog of war
A law enforcement officer shot a student at the U.S. Naval Academy on Thursday during a lockdown that was prompted by online threats from someone who had been kicked out of the institution, a source said.
The shooting on the Annapolis, Maryland, campus occurred after the midshipmen, which is what all students at the academy are called, mistook a responding law enforcement officer for a threat and struck the officer with a parade rifle used for training, the source said.
That midshipman should have been hiding under his bed.
I’d really like to see what the ‘responding law enforcement officer’ was wearing.
Then again, I’ve seen a local Karen call the police to report, ‘a prowler in my backyard!’ The ‘prowler’ was a Dominion Energy meter reader, wearing a hard hat, ID badge, and a fluorescent yellow safety vest with ‘METER READER’ in the back in 3″-high block capitals.
or a SC call 911 on the cop that pulled them over
That’s exactly how a prowler would disguise themselves!
@ Not Adahn:
I will say it IS kind of scary though how often people will let you go about whatever business you want if you’re wearing what appear to be the correct clothes.
Some of those train-spotting people who like to take pictures of trains got a lot of heat after 9/11 and found that they were no longer given the quiet toleration to walk into rail yards and take pictures of petroleum tanker cars. They figured out that if you put on a shirt and tie and put your driver’s license in a neck lanyard, everyone would just assume you’re some kind of inspector and totally leave you alone.
The lockdown was prompted by anonymous threats made on social media by a student who had been kicked out of the academy, the source said.
Time out.
Re: the casing messages,
I loathe with every fiber of my being those that created and perpetrate the practice of “we’re not going to present the communication, we’re going to report how you should interpret the communication.”
CNN, WSJ and/or ATF seem full of shit with their characterizations.
WSJ quoted the ATF.

That seems to me to be actually two practices. There’s this version which is pure narrative control and there’s the version where saying words is a taboo because of fetishism about the word’s magical harmful properties. I hate both.
Prediction now that they caught the guy:
60% of the left will lionize him like St. Luigi
60% of the left will claim he’s an innocent patsy and the assassination was actually a 4D chess move by Trump and/or Israel.
And yes, there’s some overlap there.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they find some way to label him a Republican.
It’s what they did with the Trump shooter and the Minnesota Tim Waltz appointee that shot the delegate.
Oh right, I forgot about that possibility.
Someone call Kamala, we’re going to need a Venn diagram.
They already there.
Parents are R. He was independent, but I don’t know the process in UT.
In NJ if you’ve never voted a primary you are independent.
Sounds like he grew up around guns, started shooting when he was younger. That’s going to be an angle.
Is Utah a closed primary state? Maybe he registered R to vote in the R primary since the Ds didn’t have one.
If the Hinustan Times is correct, his father turned him in.
Republican parents with lefty kids isn’t even a trope.
Guilt by association
The government says that correspondence, previously unknown to the prime minister, was “materially different” to information available when Lord Mandelson was sent to Washington. While that may be true, the distinction is unlikely to settle questions about Sir Keir’s judgment in this affair. Any association with Epstein – who died in a US prison in 2019 – was toxic. Yet the prime minister was still expressing confidence in Lord Mandelson earlier this week, when it was known that he had once described the financier as his “best pal” in a book of birthday greetings.
Donald Trump, it seems, was another enthusiastic signatory to that album, so in terms of dubious social contacts, the UK ambassador could claim a special affinity with the US president. That is hardly a credential for professional diplomacy. Perhaps No 10’s political antennae were scrambled by Mr Trump’s apparent inability to feel shame and seemingly boundless capacity to brush off scandal. Sir Keir was clearly reluctant to lose Lord Mandelson’s services in manoeuvring in what is effectively the court of a quasi-monarchical president.
Hang out with witches, you’re gonna get burned.
The timing, a week before President Trump’s state visit, is especially awkward. Lord Mandelson was instrumental in a policy of sycophantic compliance with an unreliable and authoritarian White House regime. The justification for this approach is that the president bears grudges against critics. Britain’s national interest is thus served by keeping his favour, even if it means ignoring a despotic contempt for historical allies and routine disregard for the rule of law.
Just like 1936!
One of you people with a VPN needs to see what those New Zelander agricoli have on this guy.
