Monday Morning Sitting In Links

by | Sep 29, 2025 | Daily Links | 219 comments

OK, so I’m the one on suicide watch- losing is bad enough, but watching every top Ravens player go down injured was just traumatic. Mojeaux dodged a bullet. And I’m sitting in here for Banjos as a sign of life.

Speaking of life, birthdays today are numerous and include the actual victim of The Lost Ark; a pioneer in wind power; one of our philosophical forebears; the creator of a massive industry of bullshit; the guy who pioneered the intersection of science and politics; a guy who made oaters into musicals; a guy was Aaron Sorkin and Normal Lear rolled into one if Sorkin and Lear were actually intelligent; a guy who, once I was the parent of a six year old, I grew to hate; a guy who was my inspiration when it came to chasing girls; Donald Trump with a vowel at the end; a guy who was a major player in one of the worst TV shows ever and whom I was trapped next to for a five hour flight (and we actually had an interesting conversation); a woman who was so tired; a much better moustache than John Bolton; a guitarist whose ineptitude became the stuff of legends; a TV host whose brainlessness became the stuff of legends; an NPR Lady often and deservedly parodied and whom I never dated; and one of the few actual statesmen the Palestinian Arabs ever had (so of course was exiled).

As usual, Links will contain no statesmanship, either.

Inevitable. The voters are about to get what they want, good and hard.

And some of them are already taking action.

Mine might rival the Octomom.

RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!

Britain makes sure that we are all accepting of Third World customs.

The wavin’ weed can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain…

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.

The GS-12s need a paid vacation.

Just to show that there’s actually no principles behind cutting “foreign aid.”

Just to show that there’s actually no principles behind cutting bailouts.

The Obergefell boogeyman trotted out yet again.

Orange Man Bad hasn’t said or done anything, but he’s about to, any second now!

The crazy precision of the playing and rhythmic complexity make this a terrible choice for first thing Monday morning. So of course that what Old Guy Music will be.

    At least the Giants won.

    • KSuellington

Finishing 81-81 at least with Adames finally breaking the 30 homer mark. We all wanted them to beat the Dodgers finally but alas that was not in the cards tnis year.

Inevitable. The voters are about to get what they want, good and hard.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

    • SDF-7

Yet another instance of “I don’t understand people”, that’s for sure. Sisyphus is a slacker compared to socialists wanting to “get it right this time!”

      • Nephilium

They’re judging by tone and intention, not action and results.

      • SDF-7

And some of them are already taking action.

Still don’t get this — moving from NYC to the suburbs implies to me you’re still likely working in the city (even WfH if your company is in the city… his policies will effect you). And as such, you’re still vulnerable to the impending reaming… might just shield a few assets (but then he’ll come for the Kulaks and Wreckers in the bridge and tunnel crowd, right?)… if you’re going to get out… get all the f’ing way out — personally, I’d say get out of the state. Hochul seems like a fellow traveler — she just doesn’t think she can quite pull it off yet.

I understand people. Most of them vote by reflex. To the extent that they give it any thought, New Yorkers will vote for the politician who promises the most free shit.

      “We’ll show Trump.”

      • AlexinCT

Yeah, this one scares me. I seriously believe that if Trump told them he loves breathing, some of these idiots would put a plastic bag over their head and kill themselves to just show him they will not agree with him.

But in recent years, it has also been a showcase for something else: defiantly anti-MAGA politics.

Because sports fans love to be lectured by radical leftists.

You’ve got your work cut out for you, Donald. Tread carefully when you “go after” the league.

I wonder how broken you are that you think this sort of shit is how you get your 15 mins of fame…

    • SDF-7

The NC guy… I’m not sure you can even say he was doing it for 15 seconds. It sounds like he may have sincerely believed gremlins were on the dock or something… and assuming it stems from the bullet to the brain back in the Gulf War, I really only have sympathy for the guy. Agree with the comments on Twitchy (I think) this morning though — even if he turns out not to be the shooter, he’s loopy enough he really needs involuntary mental health care. And I’m on the “be very very careful with involuntary care” side (given the “anti-vax people need re-education and ‘mental health treatment’! we had not long back, I think everyone here understands my hesitancy in granting any power in this area… but I think this gentleman meets the criteria).

Don’t know on the Michigan nutcase… just assuming nutcase and not “I hate Mormons” for some stupid reason (beyond crazy).

  7. PieInTheSky

    RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!

Well the opposition parties were the Socialist Party and the Communist party so much diversity… I did not much care for the elections but many people round these parts were terribly tense. And according to the ruskies foreign votes are now suddenly good.

    • SDF-7

If the EU is going to let in all these little ex-SSRs, we really, really need to be out of NATO. People have the right to join political unions, sure… but I have no desire to defend them when they’re encircling a nuclear power that has said it draws a red line at that. Idiotic.

“On the issue of race, there is the “Educational Resources” section of the WNBA website, which promotes titles such as How to be An Anti-Racist, The 1619 Project, and works by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Kimberlé Crenshaw.”

    • SDF-7

Having now skimmed the article — I’d normally say “Why should Trump care?” (but we know he gets thin-skinned about things so he may)… If I were him I’d just say (only if asked) something like — “Sorry, I only respond to people that actually matter.”

      • Ownbestenemy

Well, I would wager the author was approached with something like “hey, no one cares about our league….care to write that MAGA is gunning for us so we get a news cycle hit?”

      • rhywun

Donald will shoot his mouth off and the Dems will run around in circles with their hair on fire.

    I… wut?

Is there really some large number of voters out there sad at the prospect of elite government “workers” getting a paid vacation?

    • AlexinCT

I am seriously praying they furlough the bunch of them and leave the democrats with balls on their eyes…

However, a concern for women’s health is absolutely not at the heart of it. Rather, this is yet another way to control women; another way to reduce us to walking wombs rather than multidimensional human beings. This war on Tylenol is also very much a war on women. Now, if only there was a pill we could take to help deal with this Maga-induced malaise. As it is, we are all just going to have to tough it out.”

I hate this obsession with trying to make everything run through a phone app.

I got a new router with up to date firmware and firewall software, etc. I plugged it in to the spare interface on my linux box so I can do all the configuration stuff. It has wireless ability, but I don’t want to use it for that, as I want all of my traffic to pass through the IPS on my Linux box. So I look for how to turn it off.

I shit you not, the process was “Download our phone app, log on to our website, manage via internet WAN management in the phone app…”

Fuck no. I turned off WAN management for a reason. I have a perfectly good computer plugged directly into the device. I should be able to do everything from there.

“This is a league that is dominated by women of color, Black women. At least within the last couple of decades, it’s been a very openly queer league,” said Cheryl Cooky, a professor who studies the intersections of gender, sport, media and culture at Purdue University. When it comes to players’ progressive politics, Cooky said, “it’s just who they are.”

    ——-

“This is all figuring into the larger conservative strategy of using women’s sports to advance particular elements of the culture wars,” said Cooky. “It’s really being elevated by political leaders, even at the highest level.”

The problem is that our ruling elite class is degenerate, haughty, and scumbags of the worst kind. From academia to government bureaucracies, it is stupid people that have never had to pay any price for the idiocy they believe in and peddle. They have no ability to create anything of value, and have spent the last 3 or 4 decades extracting wealth from the system at the same time as they rigged the system to punish the productive. But they believe they have the right to rule, because they consider themselves smarter than all others, and especially the common man filled with common sense.

    • Suthenboy

Another shell game that depends on magical thinking. The biggest cost in the production of ammonia issssss…you guessed it: the price of energy, usually natural gas. Screw the Union, I’m staying home and screwing her.” Historically, his multiple wounds led to him not being able to screw Fanny at all, she considered divorce, but ultimately stayed with the “Hero of Gettysburg.”

    • Common Tater

She about 50 years too old for him?

    • AlexinCT

Historically, his multiple wounds led to him not being able to screw Fanny at all

      Euphimism?

    • Mojeaux

Mira Sorvino is my hero/ine. She is badass and awesome in every way.

Speaking of radical breakthroughs in science and technology, yesterday I saw a headline about a new “carbon free steel” made with hydrogen. I’m sure it will transform the industry overnight.

And Trump fell for the “Mormons are Christians” lie.

Are you being sarcastic or do you think Mormons aren’t Christians?

      • Old Man With Candy

They are Christians in the same sense that Christians are Jews.

    • AlexinCT

Sorry, I’m not watching the Chefs this year. Their sloppy playing has ground my last nerve into mummy dust.

@Tox, I know you were trying to help and I do appreciate it, but

    1) my mother has NOT known Susie longer than she’s known me. Susie ran away at 16 pregnant with her 20yo boyfriend’s baby and wasn’t heard from for decades. My mother had been at BYU for 2 years when that happened. By the time Susie WAS heard from, their father was long dead, she had been in California all that time, and I was 14 or some shit. Susie did not come to MY dad’s funeral, but my mom went to HER husband’s funeral because she “needed” her to. Like, WTF? My oldest aunt, Patty, then came up with the bright idea that she should move here and move in with my mom. That happened about 15 years ago.

She absolutely did not know this woman she shares DNA with, although she started to get an inkling after their mother died. I asked her point blank at the beginning of this fiasco if she knew Susie before she moved her in, and she said no. I asked her if she’d moved in with her had she known this woman, and she said no. So.

    2) My dad DEMANDED my loyalty to him (this implied Mom also). Now, this doesn’t seem like a big deal just saying it like that, but trust me, it was a big deal. So I was loyal. ALWAYS to my detriment. Not his. I’ve been trying to shake this off for years. So I spend my life being loyal to her, but *I* don’t get any? No, it’s not fair, but it doesn’t have to be that way. AND THEN there’s the fact that if my siblings treated my children the way her sisters have treated me, I’d cut them off completely, no questions asked. I’d burn the fucking house down. So, clearly, I’m not as important as a) Susie and/or b) her relationship with Susie.

    • ron73440

Sorry Mo, that can’t be easy to deal with.

At least Cunty Aunt is not controlling the living situation anymore.

    • Suthenboy

You cant choose your family Mojeaux. My parents are both emotional vampires on a scale that is hard to believe. I still speak with them, my brother does not. None of their grandchildren or great grandchildren have anything to do with them.

      • Common Tater

        Sad.

      • Suthenboy

It is. I was thinking after I posted that…I think I am the only person that speaks to them on a regular basis. Even for me, one minute tops and I can feel my soul getting sucked right out of me so I make excuses to get off of the phone then spend the rest of the day in a foul mood.

      • Fourscore

Lucky to have had a poor but stable family with brothers that were funny, happy and maybe a little lazy. It’s hard for me imagine any other life style.

I have friends on both sides of life’s coins.

      • Threedoor

Fourscore has had the best outcome.

Life is about relationships and you sir sound blessed.

Speaking of the Chefs, I’m bringing this what I said over from the night shift, to which Ted’S graciously replied, because it’s just part and parcel of the pussification of America:

I’m a little pissy about all these protections. I’m not trying to be a cunt about this, BUT

The whole point of a contact sport is to MAKE CONTACT. I’m not a lookie-loo gleefully waiting for injuries. I don’t wish them on anybody. I’m sorry when they have them. But injuries are a NATURAL CONSEQUENCE of this sport. You know that going in. This isn’t a secret. You are paid VERY WELL for the use of your body in the service of this magnificent display of testosterone. Padding up like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man makes things not fun for the rest of us because we all know that not only are you wrapped up in a mattress, we ALSO know you’re holding back.

    • ron73440

      I’m with you on this.

Last night a Cowboy safety got an unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting a Green Bay receiver that didn’t make a catch.

It was just a normal hit to make a tackle, but because the guy dropped the ball 2 steps before the safety running full speed hit him Green Bay got a free 15 yards.

      • Mojeaux

Yeah, the penalties are getting just ridiculous for everybody. Like, dude, let the motherfuckers play the fucking game!

    • robc

I am not a Mike Golic fan, but he had a good line about 15 years ago, with one of the new QB protection rules: “No hitting below the hemline.”

      • Fourscore

I think it was Jack Lambert said you couldn’t hit the QB after “he’d thrown his handkerchief on the ground”.

    • Nephilium

I don’t mind the guardian helmet. It’s an option the players can decide if they want to use them, and aren’t currently mandated (although I’d think someone like Tua should likely be required to wear one).

      • rhywun

That’s the Stay Puft helmet? Those things look ridiculous.

      • Nephilium

        rhywun:

Yeah, the ones that are foam and have the fabric liner put over them (which always looks just off enough). They’re supposed to be better at protecting against concussions.

Came to mention Mises birthday, glad OMWC covered it.

Here is a quote from Mises I just saw on CafeHayek:

In the universe there is never and nowhere stability and immobility. Change and transformation are essential features of life. Each state of affairs is transient; each age is an age of transition. In human life there is never calm and repose. Life is a process, not a perseverance in a status quo. Yet the human mind has always been deluded by the image of an unchangeable existence. The avowed aim of all utopian movements is to put an end to history and to establish a final and permanent calm.

It is from “The Anti-Capitalist Mentality”, which I have never read and just started on. I am only a few paragraphs in and it is chock full of Mises goodness.

    • Suthenboy

Other side of the coin: “Most people dont realize that 95% of their problems would disappear if they would just sit down and be still.” – Calvin Coolidge

I am ten years old at the zoo in San Diego when I notice a troop of baboons. The dominant male is keeping an eye on his harem while all of the juveniles are in a big pile playing ‘King of the Mountain’ exactly the way my friends and siblings did. It is a game that never ends and has no point.

The collectivists have both a fixed-pie mentality and view everything through the lens of power.

We are still in the monkey stage Luddy.

      • robc

My favorite King of the Hill version was one we played in elementary school. We had one of those wide metal slides, and the King would be on top while everyone tried to climb up the slide. To defend the hill, you would slide down as wide as possible to knock people off the slide. So to defend the hill, you had to abdicate the throne.

      • Suthenboy

rob: so you should have called that ‘King of Ashes’.

    • rhywun

In human life there is never calm and repose.

    What could possibly go wrong?

<em.Russia said on Monday that it would carefully analyse whether any U.S. Tomahawk missiles that might be supplied to Ukraine were fired using targeting data supplied by the United States.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that Washington was considering a Ukrainian request to obtain Tomahawks, which have a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles) – easily far enough to hit Moscow if fired from Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that Western countries will make themselves direct parties to the war if they supply targeting and intelligence to enable Ukraine to fire missiles deep inside Russia.

    We’ll just help a little.

    • Drake

Just brilliant. Let’s give nuclear capable long range missiles to these idiots to use against the world’s largest nuclear power. What’s the worst that could happen?

      • Swiss Servator

You think they are going to put nuclear warheads on them?

Reyne did not specify a motive at a news conference on Sunday evening.”

I wonder what was the motive? Everything suggests he was right-wing.

    • Mojeaux

You would not believe how incredibly hateful about Mormons most of the Christian right gets—or at least, the evangelical/pentecostal segment of it.

I’m not saying that’s a motive. I’m saying it wouldn’t be any sort of surprise whatsoever.

      • Common Tater

As far as I can tell, Catholics either couldn’t care less or at least respect Mormons for actually doing the charity in “faith, hope, and charity”.

      • Mojeaux

Yeah, I don’t think Catholics have much problem with us, but the anti-Mormon sentiment amongst protestants was on full display with Romney.

I mostly don’t care. I did my time in Baptist school and if it weren’t for them, I’d have probably just drifted away from the church. They forced me to examine my theology and be able to defend it.

      • Nephilium

        Common Tater:

The same people who say LDS aren’t Christians generally don’t consider Roman Catholics Christians either. Being raised Catholic, there was no animosity that I picked up against the LDS church.

      • (((Jarflax

Catholicism doesn’t accept LDS as Christian. I think the active hostility is largely a fundamentalist protestant thing, but all the main branches of Christianity, Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant accept the Nicene creed as the core statement of doctrine, and LDS beliefs contradict that. It’s roughly the same relationship believing Jews have with Messianic Jews (Jews who are Christian). The newer group regards themselves as a more enlightened part of the whole, the more traditional group regards them as outsiders who have fallen into error.

      • Threedoor

        I’m 100% anti Mormon faith.

The people I know that are potentially violently anti Mormon are former Mormons who have gone atheist.

    Comeback

Jaguar Land Rover has said it will resume some production in the “coming days” after a cyber-attack forced the carmaker to suspend operations.

Work at its three UK facilities in the West Midlands and Merseyside were halted on 1 September after a cyber-attack the night before.

The BBC understands manufacturing will resume first at the engine facility in Wolverhampton on 6 October, and production at other plants will have a phased return.

Industry sources said they expect it to still be several weeks before the production lines are running at full capacity.

    Government bailouts work.

    Hitting the big time

For a play that’s famous for the lack of progress its characters make, Waiting for Godot has succeeded in bringing an awful lot of A-list names to the New York stage. The latest to take on Samuel Beckett’s co-dependent hobos, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, have teamed up in the past on film—perhaps most notably, and most appropriately in this case, as the central duo in the Bill & Ted franchise.

    It’s a logical progression.

    • Gender Traitor

Oh, I so hope they play it a la Bill and Ted. That would be awesome! 😄

      • Gender Traitor

Then they should do Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Was the Neo-Assyrian empire as brutal as it portrayed itself?
“Mass graves have been unearthed at Ashdod and Lachish that date to the time of their conquest by Assyria…At Ashdod, some of the 2,872 bodies buried together show signs of mutilation and beheading. At Lachish, the assembled bodies of more than 1,500 people have been interpreted as the outcome of a massacre.”

These were some of the largest mass graves in the pre-modern world, indicating that the Assyrians really did leave a trail of carnage in the wake of their military Campaign. (After which, the survivors of these cities were also recorded to have been deported).

No wonder Minnesoda is such a great place. Our Dear Leader King Walz has so many wonderful ideas!

    1) Vote for a constitutional amendment to ban assault rifles because he doesn’t have the votes in the legislature to do anything. But he does have the DFL vote counting machine in the Twin Cities to take away rights.

    2) He brings a lot of wisdom to the current bickering about how the new vibrant neighborhood Somalis swindled the state out of more than $1B.

“We’re a generous state,” Walz said, with laws “that are able to move this money as quickly as possible to improve people’s lives.”

The governor added that Minnesota “certainly contracts a lot with nonprofits or third-party organizations to move this money out,” meaning that “if you want to cheat, just like a Nigerian prince asking you for your money at home or whatever, you might be able to do that.”

Thank doG that the state didn’t just sit on that money. Walz really deserves a lot of credit for cutting red tape I guess.

    3) He really is super funny! Why doesn’t he get credit for his sense of humor?

Every Republican running for governor has “made it clear that they want the endorsement of Donald Trump. And I would argue that none of them have more ties to the president than him,” Walz said of Lindell, later adding, “I will brush up on my pillow knowledge.”

Asked about Harris’s disappointment with his debate performance against now-Vice President JD Vance, Walz said, “If the vice presidential debate mattered, Dan Quayle wouldn’t have been vice president.”

He so roasted Mike Lindell! Too bad he has zero chance of actually running against Walz

    • Ted S.

Oh, he’s funny all right. We just laugh *at* him, not with him.

    Keep pushing on that string

Automakers and investors are about to find out what the “natural demand” is for new all-electric vehicles in the U.S., starting this week.

Amid what’s set to be a record year for EV sales, including a record for units sold in the third quarter, demand for EVs is expected to decline. That’s because federal incentives of up to $7,500 to purchase a plug-in vehicle are getting discontinued after Tuesday.

Many automakers have relied on the incentives to boost consumer demand for EVs, which they’ve spent billions of dollars developing even as the vehicles remain largely unprofitable.

But they cost virtually nothing to run. Embrace the future.
