”Captain’s log. Its Veteran’s Day and everyone is at the house today. Well…maybe not. I’m still working because my company doesn’t recognize it as a holiday in exchange for giving us the day after Thanksgiving. I have a floater, I just don’t want to use it just to do the Cotton Hill thing and walk in the Veterans Day Parade and headbutt people at the VFW. Though the latter has a lot of appeal.

Still, the news from DC is welcome and would infuriate me in any other circumstance. I need to figure out how to make more money (legally) so I can build my dream of living on an offshore oil rig.

Anyways, given my son’s penchant for Roblox videos on YouTube, I might accept a true crime show from the mid-90’s today. WILL YOU TURN THAT SHIT DOWN.”

Imagine the chutzpah needed to cop a feel on the sitting president. I applaud this guy.

Death metal singer crowned Miss Chile.

    Spicy.

  2. Shpip

As previously reported, Fernández garnered worldwide attention after performing an original song by her band during last week’s semi-finals broadcast — with the frontwoman bringing massive gutturals to the pageant stage, while flanked by Decessus guitarist Carlos Palma.

That schtick might play well in Santiago, but the world finals are much more ritualized and formal. I’m guessing she’ll have a Chile reception.

    • The Other Kevin

If you wrote that plot in a book, nobody would Bolivia.

    • Evan from Evansville

If she doesn’t make ya feel *somethin’*, Uruguay.

I’m not sure it’s possible to make that vocal sound without intense use of autotune and much processing. If I am wrong, I’ll be remarkably impressed and will bed her as penance. If it *is* ultra-processed, I’ll also bed her as penance. (For something, I’m sure.)

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

      Niger, please.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

I get the feeling that everyone wants to Thai one on with her.

El Presidenté Mujer declares Mexico will be finished with their infrastructure projects in time for the World Cup.

They should just play the games in bull rings. Preferably with picadors on horseback.

Know who else had issues with ambassadors in Mexico?

The world must “defeat” climate denialism and fight fake news, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has told the opening meeting of the UN climate talks.

There is no climate. Only weather. Come and get me, coppers!

defeat” climate denialism and fight fake news

They all come out of the factory programmed with these lines it seems.

Well, how else do they get the pallets of cash?

“A Reddit moderator known as “KlammereFyr” was recently convicted by a Danish court after clipping and posting hundreds of nude scenes that actresses filmed for movies and TV shows but apparently never expected to be shared out of context.”

The mind boggles at someone so naive? Stupid? Sheltered? As to think their nude scenes wouldn’t be clipped and posted.

  9. Suthenboy

“Fight fake news and defeat climate deniers.”

Pick one. You cant have both.

  10. Suthenboy

The nudity thing. FFS this is just the way we are formed. Everything doesnt have to be about sex you bunch o’ fuckin’ monkeys. Grow up and come to terms with it.

    • Suthenboy

You cant kick us out of this failing institution. We need paychecks.

Strangely I see no mention of administrative staff being sacked in that article.

“Faculty are people,” she claimed without evidence.

    • Suthenboy

      Faculty are people……and?

    • kinnath

People get fired all the time. Businesses collapse and people get laid off with no hope of ever going back.

      Welcome to real life people.

      • R C Dean

        People-shaped, at least.

        Mostly.

    • Nephilium

No. No they aren’t. I’ve seen the movie.

  13. cyto

Is that death metal real? How does she do that voice? It is a Millie Vanillei, right?

    • kinnath

Looks like a whole lot of distortion and other effects. I can’t imagine that she can actually sing that way.

    • Mad Scientist

There’s a whole technique to singing like Cookie Monster without fucking up your voice. Anyone can do it.

    • slumbrew

Recent purchase. I wonder if unfamiliarity contributed.

  14. Suthenboy

On the college thing….how many DEI administrators and tranny counsellors? Gender studies professors?

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

If there’s even just 1, it’s too many.

And I’d bet there is more than one. I’d bet they have entire degree programs devoted to it.

Space rescue services needed? 2 ‘stranded’ astronaut incidents are a ‘massive wake-up call,’ experts say

One of the points I’ve been trying to make,” Osburg continued, “is that creating an initial space rescue capability does not have to be expensive or involve setting up a new government agency or the like. It could be done with a few million dollars per year, which is ‘in the noise’ for human spaceflight costs.”

Those monies could fund a small independent non-profit organization with a handful of people, said Osburg, working on the topic at the strategic level by advocating standardization, performing planning exercises, but also standing ready to provide operational coordination in case of an actual space rescue incident, he said.

We won’t actually do anything, but we get some cash and talk big.

    • R C Dean

Consultants. That’s what people stranded hundreds of miles above the planet need.

  16. Muzzled Woodchipper

Let’s see if she can sing?

The band is better than she is, even if their sound is pretty much a direct rip of Meshuggah (though, TBF, I suppose the whole of Djent sounds like Meshuggah).

    • CPRM

The song is too slow and droning.

    • R C Dean

Uh, does anybody really care if she can sing?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        RC gets it.

      • Evan from Evansville

Even regardless of *how* autotuned+ it is, if that’s a legitimate interest of hers?
Uh, yeah. That’s a solid schwing up in my book.

      • Evan from Evansville

Oh, I’ll note I don’t like that type of music. Double bass drumming is ironically (to them) quite boring. (He can play, for sure.) I also really don’t ‘get’ the impulse to have screamy vocals for a whole song. Makes it pointless.

  17. The Late P Brooks

    Welcome to real life people.

If she had wanted to live in the real world she wouldn’t have become a college teacher.

  18. The Late P Brooks

creating an initial space rescue capability does not have to be expensive or involve setting up a new government agency or the like.

Now you’re just being silly. What would be the point, then?

    • Suthenboy

He wants a completely incompetent new agency that will never accomplish anything other than being a bottomless pit for more tax money. How much more? MORE.

      These fuckers never quit.

  19. Muzzled Woodchipper

Although stranded in space sounds horrible, I’m thinking that, at this point in space exploration, it’s a hazard of the job.

Laura Anderson, a Socialist Workers Party member, is among the 13 candidates running in the nonpartisan election for Miami mayor on Nov. 4.

Anderson said she admires Fidel Castro and has been to Cuba three times, and saw how workers organized to meet the needs of the people.

“He was someone who pointed to women as some of the best leaders before the revolution, he explained the role of Jew hatred, he was someone who understood the African freedom struggle,” Anderson said.

Uh. I’m from Miami. You can’t say you admire Castro and expect to win a dog catcher race, much less Mayor. Really you can’t say that out loud anywhere.

I’ve sat with abuela while she tells her stories. Best friend’s dad escaped in 1960. Admitting you like Castro might be enough for a Miami version of SSS.

But watch the video. She’s been to Cuba 3 times! And she’s read some books! That oughta show those who actually lived under him and had everything taken from them.

Seriously. White women are the root cause of our predicament.

“Fascism is on the march in America and around the world. Institutions and elites are caving. We’re fighting back. No one is doing more to fuel the rise of fascism than Elon Musk. Now, Tesla shareholders want to supercharge his assault on democracy by making him a trillionaire. Yes, with a T. That will make him even more dangerous. The good news is, we CAN stop him. His insane trillion-dollar incentive package depends on hitting huge benchmarks. That’s where all of us come in,” the group wrote.

We’ll do our best to destroy the company to keep Musk from benefitting from its success.

One of my car YouTube people. He is an independent Toyota specialist with 1M subs and this is his car review channel. His twist is thorough mechanical construction reviews.

This particular German POS lease special has 42k miles and a leaking air shock already. But if you want to focus on one part of his review just jump to the interior of this $140k cost cut special designed for the Chinese market. MB is lost worse than BMW. Never thought I’d say that.

I sat in a tree this afternoon for a couple hours, practicing some squirrel moves. Didn’t see anything other than the great outdoors but it was warm out so not so bad. I’ll be back out tomorrow.

I hadn’t planned to hunt but it’s hard getting the boy out of the man.

Just took an online assessment for Data Annotation, one of those companies that has folk correct, edit and prioritize AI responses to prompts. Gave me a few example prompts and two responses to ’em. My talk was to pick which was best based on the criteria the ‘client’ asked it. Then I was to write a short paragraph on why I thought one was better than the other.

I’m fairly convinced that much, if not straight-up all, of this is just free info about various prompts their LLM can add to its databank. Interesting process to get used to, for better /worse. This would be like my old SEO gig where you pick from a pretty big lists of assignments. Payments back then, ~2018, were weird on PayPal, which this place and others also use to deposit pay.

Has PayPal become more reliable since? I can’t imagine it wouldn’t have, but still seems strange. But such is the life of most freelance work these days, yeah? Trying to make sure my internal barometer on ‘sensible’ properly calibrated.
