Thursday Afternoon Links of Post-Migration

WTF JUST HAPPENED, NON-TECHNICAL VERSION: We (the website) packed up and moved in the middle of the night because the old landlord (hosting service) wasn’t keeping the place up. It took the Post Office (DNS) a while to process our change of address. There is still some mail stuck in transit (missing comments on posts from 1/28 and 1/29). Hopefully, operations at our new place will be smoother and more reliable.

WTF JUST HAPPENED, NERD VERSION: WebDom migrated the website from DreamHost to another hosting service. This took her several tries during the past couple of weeks and the recent issues with the Media Library were migration-related. DNS propagation was beyond our control and happened slowly. WebDom will (hopefully) re-migrate the missing comments – eventually, is remigrating the last couple of days comments as I write this, baby in one arm, working the cash register with the other. As of this morning I’m having trouble uploading new images to the Media Library. We’re still on WordPress, but we are already noticing site speed improvements, and hopefully reliability. Joomla is still on the table, but we’re talking more Artemis III timeframe than Artemis II timeframe.

BREAKING: Trump officials held secret talks with Canuckistani separatists in Alberta province. Even if this only serves to rattle PM Carney, it was worth the effort. Make Alberta Great Again!

AMY KLOBUCHAR JUST CAN’T SUGARCOAT HOW HARD IT IS (EWWW): CNN beclowns themselves yet again in their announcement that US Senator Amy Klobuchar has officially announced that she’s running for Governor of Minnesota. Current Governor “Tampon Tim” Walz has announced he’s not running for re-election. Everyone predicts that Gov Klobuchar will appoint Walz to replace her as US Senator.

FRAUD ALLEGATIONS FAKE, BUT IT’S HAPPENING EVERYWHERE: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tried to downplay the rampant fraud in Minnesota, dismissing allegations as “make-believe,” before claiming that “every state” experiences similar schemes, to ultimately saying there must be “accountability” for any fraud that took place. Sure you do, Tim.

FRAUD WATCH, DEFENSE CONTRACTING EDITION: Rhonda Valles is an aspiring California musician who once played in a band with her ex-lover, Monica Salci. In between writing and performing songs, Valles and Salci formed a company that purported to make clothes. The company never produced a stitch. The federal government paid it $19 million. I have frequently written about 8(a) contracting which mandates set-asides for small, women, and minority-owned businesses, and how the system is ripe for, and rife with, abuse. This article does a dive into how that works out in the real world.

TRUMP APPOINTS FRAUD CZAR: Trump appoints Colin McDonald as Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement. Even MSN can’t find anything nasty to say about him. McDonald still requires Senate approval before taking the job. It will be interesting to see if Democrats delay and obstruct this appointment because OMB.

SLOUCHING TOWARDS FORT SUMTER? Over at American Greatness, the indispensable Victor Davis Hanson walks us through the parallels.

COMMIE BULLSHIT WATCH: TNR desperately progsplains how quashing congestion pricing is authoritarian. Steven Higashide is an urban planner and the author of Better Buses, Better Cities: How to Plan, Run, and Win the Fight for Effective Transit. LMAO

CONTRADICTORY COVERAGE ABOUT THE MAN WHO SPRITZED ILHAN OMAR: Put on your tinfoil hats, Glibs. On one hand we have a supposed family member saying that Anthony Kazmierczak was MAGA with a longstanding obsession with Omar. Another source reports pro-Trump social media posts, but does not provide either links or screenshots to back that up. On the other hand we have conflicting coverage indicating that he is a pinko with troon kids. And then there’s Omar’s unexpected reaction. All of these things can be true at once if you assume this guy was an NPC being paid to do this, by someone. All sources agree that Kazmierczak has had ongoing financial problems. Perhaps he had a change of heart at one point, or perhaps one of his social media personas was a deliberate construct to prebunk a narrative. We may never know for sure. Breaking: He’s now facing federal charges, in addition to state charges. As of 3:40 PM CST today none of the conflicting claims linked above has been walked back by the respective outlets.

NEITHER SNOW, NOR RAIN… Got my cardio for the day. Tried to shovel the front walk but ice too hard to make much progress. While I was working, the mail carrier rolls up in his van and goes to the neighbors’ front door. When he’s on his way back out I ask if he has anything for me today. “We’re not delivering mail today…” I didn’t ask WTF he was doing, then.

Everyone predicts that Gov Klobuchar will appoint Walz to replace her as US Senator.

    Wouldn’t that be special.

    • rhywun

Will they provide a feed into the Senate chamber from the jail cell he had better be inhabiting by then?

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

There’s isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell he, or anyone else of political consequence, goes to jail.

        Bob Menendez has a sad.

Tried to shovel the front walk but ice too hard to make much progress.

I always knew you were into hard ICE.

  6. Brochettaward

On the Omar story, my first thought was…is this even real? I mean, the video is real. Some liquid was put on her, but it came across as agitprop. They weren’t going to have their guy take a shot at her with a real weapon or do anything too dangerous like that, but splash an “unknown” liquid on her? Sure they’d do that to reinforce their narrative and make her into the victim/”martyr.”

I don’t think she’s the sort to calmly proceed if there was any real threat to her. I’m sure she’s aware of what her own people are prone to throw on women who have done wrong in the eyes of Islam. Whatever was in that syringe seems to have been completely harmless, though supposedly smelled bad.

Do we have any answer as to what is supposedly was? Because again, you know law enforcement would be rather interested in that.

We’ll see what punishment the perp ends up with.

    • Drake

The whole thing couldn’t look more fake and staged. A low-IQ Somali theater production.

    • Brochettaward

Also, is Omar a low-key sneaky would for anyone? I’ve never seen a Somali who was even remotely attractive, though I’m sure they exist. She tends to wear, ahem, extra clothing. The body may not be as tight as AOC’s has looked at times. She may be a more loathsome human than even AOC, but she also doesn’t have that same bug-eyed crazed look half the time like she’s about to go on a 29 minute rant on inequality and the horse mouth thing going on.

      I think I would.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

David Bowie found one of them attractive.

      • Evan from Evansville

Um. Omar is fucking hot. Like, really really. No thinking required, I’m positive I would with ferocious wood.

Last ex, the *really* crazy one, is US-born Egyptian. A complete NPC-Lefty. I, uh. Have had fantasies about a reunion. Specifically involving it being a mutual, absolute political hate-fuck. She’d consent to *all* of that ‘without’ question.
(Yes, she’s been texted. 2% likelihood, but meh.)

      • Evan from Evansville

(I’ve noticed the extra loose clothing recently. It wasn’t always so. *furrows over Omar’s diet* AOC’s also hot. Those are the only two reasons why they’re in power. The Left is required to play that sexist game, cuz otherwise no one would ‘listen’ to their scramblings.)

See also: K Harris. Back in the day? You *know* she was worth the price for Willie Brown. (Why would he give a shit about her ‘work’ performance? She literally sucked ‘n fucked her way to (almost!) The Top, and no NPC cares. (Cuz Trump’s evil and whatever, sure.)

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Harris presided over my wife’s citizenship swearing in about 20 years ago. She (Harris) was wearing a leather skirt, and looked pretty, pretty, pretty good.

    • Tonio

All the sources who have mentioned this agree that the “substance” was probably apple cider vinegar. Unknown whether bottle-strength, or diluted.

One of the nerds posted something more specific about the chemistry of ACV yesterday in the comments but those are not coming up because [REDACTED].

    • Ownbestenemy

I dunno…parallel the Trump “fight!” moment?

    • Nephilium

I’ve seen later reports saying that the syringe contained apple cider vinegar.

      Which raises more questions.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I’d say if ACV, it’s almost certainly staged. Whether she was a part of the plot is another matter.

    • KSuellington

Supposedly it was apple cider vinegar. So something that looks brown and stinks but would inflict no harm (and might even improve her digestion!). Her reaction to it was indeed highly odd.

    • creech

Well, we know if he’d heaved a sub sandwich at her, it would be laughed off.

      • Ownbestenemy

The Left not only learned what jury nullificication is but uses it far better amnd more effectively than Libertarians do.

      • Brochettaward

I mean, how many libertarian prosecutors and judges are there out there in the first place?

      • Tonio

        OBE nailed it.

I just saw that she stepped forward because she was going to punch her attacker. Cuz she has brothers, you know. So brave!

Either way that attacker’s gonna be made an example of, so whatever the play was, I hope it was worth it for him.

“Steven Higashide is an urban planner and the author of Better Buses, Better Cities: How to Plan, Run, and Win the Fight for Effective Transit.”

Assholes like this are better bussing my city into an unnavigable shithole.

Attention subjects: We’re taking one lane each way on a busy boulevard and dedicating them to bus rapid transit (bus-only lanes). A few years of heavy construction (that’s still not done) and… oops! All of the shops along the boulevard went out of business because nobody can get to them or park near them. Oh, by the way: Those buses in the dedicated lanes? We let homeless people fight each other and shoot drugs on them all day, so you won’t want to ride them.

    • Tonio

Does your “BRT” also require special, expensive, immobile raised platforms?

    • Nephilium

W 25th here is removing the parking lanes to swap them for bus lanes. Honestly, it probably won’t have too much of an impact on the traffic, since those spots are a PITA to get in or out of when the street is even remotely busy.

      • Tonio

Removing parking spaces is part of the overall plan to make private vehicle ownership and use as expensive and inconvenient as possible. Special bus lanes are the excuse and mechanism they use to accomplish that goal.

      • Gustave Lytton

It wasn’t working fast enough so now cities are stealing lane for bike boulevards, painting lane lines like drunkards, putting car parking in the middle of the street so inattentive drivers can rear end them, and putting curb obstructions and other objects close to the travel lane or even in it.

The CommieTown shitbirds are fapping themselves over all it. Along with Bob Poole and his taxation innovations. Fuck all of them.

      • slumbrew

I didn’t know you lived in my town, Gustave…

      • Tonio

putting car parking in the middle of the street

Mid-street diagonal car parking were a feature in many towns in Virginia when I was growing up.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

        Not sure which is worse.

Removing traffic lanes for busses that are only 1/4 full and only travel in that lane for short periods of time, or removing traffic lanes for bike lanes that almost no one uses.

      • Plinker762

Unused bike lanes at least provide a place to store the plowed snow from the streets during the winter. Of course now they are adding “bike lane protection barriers” so that cars don’t hit the non-existent bike riders. Unfortunately we are having a snowless winter, I really wanted to see how fucked up plowing the streets was going to be.

      • Gustave Lytton

Ooh, I forgot the traffic light preemption by bikes so the lights for car traffic are no longer synchronized and basically get stopped at every block because there no longer any flow. And the bikes ignore red lights now because Idaho stops were introduced for stop signs.

      • Gustave Lytton

The ShareSmear the Road assholes think it’s a one way street where their bike lanes are exclusive and can’t be used for vehicles stopping briefly out of the traffic lane or leaf/snow accumulation.

      • Threedoor

Busses cost more per passenger mile than owning a car. And the taxpayer eats it.

        Ban busses.

  8. Drake

Hansen is good with the parallels, but I think we are slouching towards a Caesar instead.

We’re about to have another government shutdown because Congress can’t pass a budget. Their governing power has been yielded to their lobbyists and the Executive Branch.

This is Rome 50 BC. The competition for Executive power will go kinetic.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Hand in your Man Card. We’re supposed to think about the Roman Empire, not the Republic.

      • Drake

Won’t be a Republic much longer.

    already noticing site speed improvements

I’ll say. It’s loading 4x to 5x faster for me. Much appreciated!

I’ll kick in an extra nickel during the next pledge drive.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Not to dissuade you, but I suspect their hosting fees have gone down appreciably with the switch.

I’m in the “choosing” stage because I need to switch hosts soon too. The first several years (3-4) are cheap before a price bump.

      • rhywun

Huh. I used to use Site 5 for those needs and they didn’t pull that crap.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

        Yeah.

Switch to us for $6/month (in one lump sum) for 36 months. After that, it goes up to like $12 or $16 a month (at least the hosting plans I’m looking at). Which is still much less than I currently pay at my host that I’ve had for over 20 years at this point.

I tried to upgrade at my current host, and they want over $40 a month for their most basic service plus a bit more server space.

TOO LOCAL NEWS: Fall-out from yesterday’s injunction putting the repeal of NH car inspections on hold

The Live Free and Drive proposal would reclassify the absence of an inspection sticker as a non-moving secondary offense, meaning police could not pull over drivers solely for lacking a current sticker. Drivers would not be denied insurance or considered at fault in accidents for not having a valid sticker. Any citation for noninspection would carry a maximum fine of $1.

    and later in the article:

“This injunction is inspired by one thing and one thing only: the greed of Gordon-Darby and the New Hampshire Auto Dealers Association. If New Hampshire citizens are angry, they should be angry at them,” Granger said.

Executive Councilor John Stephens (R-Manchester) said there will be consequences for Gordon-Darby and its lawsuit.

“Our elected representatives spoke clearly when they ended the mandatory vehicle emissions inspection program, and no out-of-state vendor should be permitted to use federal courts to override the democratic process in our state,” Stephens said.

Gordon-Darby has held the contract for New Hampshire’s inspection system since 2004. Its current contract was originally set to run through the end of 2026 before last year’s vote moved the termination date to Jan. 31.

Stephens said Wednesday he will ensure the company does not profit from the lawsuit.

All the sources who have mentioned this agree that the “substance” was probably apple cider vinegar. Unknown whether bottle-strength, or diluted.

Maybe he wanted to suppress her appetite(s).

  14. Ownbestenemy

Giancarlo Esposito spouted off today. Fine actor with the brain power of a twig. Of course, im not even sure what this means

“Some very rich old white men are exerting their power to suppress our own people, thus creating a feeling of civil war in the streets, preparing the haters to hate, teaching them how to shoot,” Esposito said. “This is all a preparation for a very insidious problem that’s happening in our world. And for me, I have to speak out. We will not be ICE’d out. This is not going to happen.”

Ive heard better stuff from stoners

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Because weed doesn’t kill brain cells like politics.

    • Tonio

I deliberately don’t cover celebrity meltdowns and posturings. People who emote, or write or play songs, have no particular insight to anything outside their crafts and talents. That’s not to say that they *can’t* but I’m not upfront accepting the whingements of every actor/actress and popstar as automatically valid.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

That’s a good track, Tonio. There’s nothing but the most uninformed drivel from that quarter.

I give zero fucks how long an illegal has been here. It’s time to go home. If you’ve been here any length of time, you’ve been here long enough to get right. Since you haven’t, you can eat rice and beans in your home country.

    • The Other Kevin

Abolishing ICE is yet another luxury belief.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Libs of Tic Tock showed a scene from a city council meeting from my hometown where one of the councilors was literally crying because of ICE. But if anyone tried building lower priced apartments in that town, the kinds of apartments illegals would live in, it would be blocked in a heartbeat by the same people.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

“We will not be ICE’d out.”

According to IMDB, “Giancarlo Giuseppe Alessandro Esposito was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to an Italian carpenter/stagehand father from Naples, Italy, and an African-American opera singer mother from Alabama.” So he’s a natural born citizen from his mom. He doesn’t have to worry about ICE. Now despite being born in Denmark, he probably isn’t eligible for citizenship there, just like my son isn’t eligible for Austrian citizenship despite being born there. Maybe we need to protest those European laws.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

        That’s fascism!

It’s totally okay for other countries to have borders and immigration law, but when the US tries it, we’re fascist!

    • KSuellington

This aggression will not stand, man!

    • rhywun

      “our own people”

Illegal aliens? Yeah… stay in your lane, dummy.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

They’re on this whole bit about “kidnapping” American citizens, and of course obfuscation of facts (like the one where they’re saying ICE used a child to kidnap dad.

These people are NPCs, but somehow the code got mixed up and people actually listen to them.

      • The Other Kevin

Someone needs to let these idiots know this is a good way to ensure Republicans cheat on the next election.

    • Gustave Lytton

Next step will be hanging invaders and the traitors supporting and enabling them. Keep pushing, assholes. You’re going to enjoy that hemp necktie.

New York’s congestion pricing program has brought in over $500 million thus far, funding transit improvements that will stick around no matter what happens in court.

    *cough* Bullshit, indeed.

That money doesn’t even cover the yearly losses to the fare theft that goes unpunished – on purpose.

Any recent “improvements” are going to be repaid by your grandchildren, if at all.

Mrs. TOK is on a bit of a tear this afternoon. The Arnold Classic (a big weightlifting competition) announced its female competitors, and 2 were clearly not female.

Maybe the US will someday be like the Japanese warring states period, with a ceremonial president and warlords fighting it out for actual control. Some warlord will emerge victorious and start a dynasty, ushering in a long era of peace.

    Traumatic

Apple CEO Tim Cook said he was “heartbroken” by the situation in Minneapolis and called for an easing of tensions in a note to employees this week, CNBC confirmed Wednesday.

“This is a time for deescalation,” Cook wrote in a memo obtained by Bloomberg, which first reported the news. “I believe America is strongest when we live up to our highest ideals, when we treat everyone with dignity and respect no matter who they are or where they’re from, and when we embrace our shared humanity.”

    ——-

A growing list of leaders and billionaires are speaking out after Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti were fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis this month.

Multiple news outlets reported that OpenAI’s Sam Altman said Immigration and Customs Enforcement “is going too far” in a message to employees. Elsewhere, LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman wrote on X this week that “there is politics but humanity should transcend that.”

As far as deescalation goes, I’m not sure Trump is the guy you need to talk to. The militant no-borders mob seem to be calling the shots.

    • rhywun

Get Congress to open the borders, luxury leftists.

Otherwise shut your fucking pieholes and let your betters do their jobs.

        This.

Immigration enforcement is democracy in action. It’s exactly what the fuck most of us voted for.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Why does Tim Cook think anyone gives a flying fuck about his political opinion other than those who already agree with him 100%?

On Saturday, the White House screening of the “Melania” documentary on the same day ICU nurse Pretti was killed drew more scrutiny on U.S. tech leaders, several of whom attended the private event.

Cook, Amazon’s Andy Jassy and Advanced Micro Devices’ Lisa Su were all in attendance, according to multiple media outlets.

Apple employees were reportedly angered by Cook’s attendance, according to The Intercept.

“This is a time when I think we’re going to see a large expansion of state power, because the states are the rational actors in this space.”

Yes. Egging your constituents on to “resist” the enforcement of longstanding federal law is “rational.”

So she thinks we should just let states decide immigration law?

I’d be okay with that, but only if every fucking cent of federal dollars is erased from disbursement. New Jersey wants to allow unlimited illegal migration? Okay. But you lose every bit of federal funding you have as a trade off. I’m sure the residents of NJ would think differently when they have to pay for their own policies and not rely on federal dollars to cover them.

    • creech

I’ve seen videos of crying women asking why the government expects them to pay taxes while literal fascists are running around executing protestors.

It’s a very special level of retardation to think the government is going to execute random people, and then decide you’re going to try to go with tax evasion.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

Meanwhile I’m wondering why I should pay taxes knowing that it’ll go to Somali daycares and illegal families using the ER as a GP.

      • rhywun

If Trump turns every leftist into a tax dodger maybe he’ll have accomplished some good after all.

    Urban Planner AKA Commie

The military fraud guys need to do better. They probably got less than a Learing Center. As the Social Industrial Complex exceeds the Military Industrial Complex in government spending, it seems natural that the greater fraud will become linked to social services.

    • Threedoor

The educational complex exceeds the military.

The teachers unions seem to be about the only people that know this though.

Man keeps D&D game going for 40+ years:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ-ehbVQYxI

Like The Cones of Dunshire, it is punishingly intricate.

And here I though Risk and Monopoly games dragged on forever.

    • Pash KKatel

      Cones of Dunshire reference FTW

      • rhywun

One of my favorite bits from that show.

“This is nothing, right? I’ll throw it out today.”

      • Pash KKatel

My ex saw it demoed at a gaming convention. I don’t think they were able to develop it into a real game LOL. It had a short shelf life anyway.

    • rhywun

JFC. I can’t imagine being that obsessed with anything.

That same report cites Carlo Dade from the Canada West Foundation, a Calgary think tank, who described: “The Americans are more than happy to continue to play Canadians off each other.”

He couldn’t be more wrong. Canada is not worth worrying about for America. We could stop all trade with Canada, and we wouldn’t know it. Meanwhile they’d crumble into Somalia with ice. Canada exists as a separate polity only in name. Without US trade and protection, Canada has nothing.

    • R.J.

Somalia with ice sounds like an interesting mixed drink.
      Paging Neph…

      • UnCivilServant

Would that be soju with banana and ice?

      • Trials and Trippelations

I think the base is apple cider vinegar

      • R.J.

        Bravo

      • Nephilium

        All:

There are so many terrible options I could go with that. A shrub with an apple cider vinegar comes to mine, Banane du Brésil could be used, and either sake or soju. But if you want a lazy quick one, I’d go with a shot of 99 Bananas (or some other shite banana flavored liquor) topped with a Japanese Rice Lager.

I think my Monocle update is reasonably baked:

    New README added:

    https://gitlab.com/glibertarians/forumProject/-/tree/Eyepiece_v4

    complete with some install instructions.

Biggest change from the last version is removal of the (non-functional) dynamic comment refresh in favor of just background polling for new comments on the server, which are indicated by a number in parens under the current unread count; you’ll need to manually refresh to get them.

I also adjust the placement of the Nuke & Mute buttons as well as fixing their functionality.

Please let me know if anything’s not working.

I’m going to leave it in the ‘ Eyepiece_v4’ branch but if it passes muster I’ll move that to be the master branch.

    • Plinker762

You need to add a feature that responds with “Ha ha loser, user ‘ABC’ made the same comment before you”

      • slumbrew

If you use the ‘Link’ button it’ll hit you with “SHAME! This URL has already been linked.”, which is the best I Trashy can do.

    • rhywun

OK I’ll give it a try if it doesn’t actually fetch new the comments. That drove me nuts on some previous version.

    • Threedoor

Ive downloaded that before but I probably don’t have the correct OS to make it do anything.

  32. Ted S.

Can Trump and Congress end the Medicare food card fraud already?

    • UnCivilServant

      End? A Government Program?

What spoor of madness is this?

      /Congress

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

They must wait until all the states that refuse to comply send in their records.

      So no.

      • UnCivilServant

“States which have sent no data have no eligable recipients and get $0 in funds.”

    • rhywun

lol I wouldn’t count on Congress lifting a finger to do anything other than give themselves a raise.

  33. Plinker762

Omar better go to the doctor because I have found that apple cider vinegar is a great wart remover.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

She’s obviously been brainwashed by white supremacy.

      • Threedoor

        Worse.
She’s following a Jewish carpenter now.

In the grim darkness of next week, there is only war

    Russia’s Warhammer church:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JQCuzIuIXw

It is decorated with melted steel of destroyed WW2 German Panzers.

    • R.J.

I had a helluva week so I gummied up.

      Luuuuuuuuuudes……

    • trshmnstr

I have to leave for racquetball in 45 min, so I can’t. I wanna hop on a zoom at some point soon, but the stars haven’t aligned for that yet.

      • Pash KKatel

We’ll be there Fridays or Saturdays when the stars align!

    • Pash KKatel

Hangin’ wit da boys up in here. Come join us!

  35. Gender Traitor

In my suddenly necessary quest to protect my online presence from marauding hackers, I’ve just “scheduled” my not-even-looked-at-in-years Instagram account for deletion…on 2/28. Because of course they couldn’t just delete it immediately. One couldn’t possibly be expected to make such a critical, life-changing decision that quickly. 🙄

    • R.J.

There’s a backlog of people thinking the same as you?

    • rhywun

It’s to protect you from your “rash” decision. 🙄
