One year, I went on a big Full Moon kick and showed a ton of his films. This year, it appears to be Hammer and Hammer adjacent films. Tonight I am showing Twins of Evil, a great vampire movie with a good twin/bad twin twist. I would love to talk more about the director, etc.. but I am between rock and a hard place with work, and I am already late on getting out this post. My apologies to Swiss!
So what is it about? We have a concise review from neil-douglas2010:
Entertaining Hammer film from 1971 with a great performance from Peter Cushing. As usual the location filming is superb and this one has a better than average plot that involves the burning of “witches” by puritan like believers. Cushing is brilliant as the lead, playing it as head villain, but is he. Damien Thomas as Count Karnstein is good too as the lead vampire in the film as are the Twins of the film. Plenty of seventies cleavage too as as the norm of Hammer films at the time. Plenty to enjoy in this one.

I first saw it probably in the early 80s when late nite indie television would show stuff like this, and it scared the crap out of me. Across 40 years or so it never entered my head to try to apply “queer theory” to it.
OTOH, the 70s were full of stuff like “Tales of the City” with gays explicitly rejecting traditional families so who knows. I just don’t see it in cited story.

I honestly don’t understand the queer Muslim thing. I barely get gay Christians. Ignore for a moment how accepted you’ll ever truly be by any religious community. You can’t read the foundational texts of Islam and be like yup…perfectly ok with my queer lifestyle. I mean, the same really applies to Christianity though we have these weird “progressive” branches. Religion really should only “evolve” so much. Can only do so before it becomes unrecognizable and something else entirely.
