Is the book of Charlie going to be in the next Trump Bible? Also, we’re closer to 99 luftballons now. That’s a better measure than that gay ass clock they use.

      First, and proud of it.

      • R.J.

        No. Just pointing it out.

    • Threedoor

I was expecting an ass with the hands originating at the chocolate starfish.

      Disappointed

      • slumbrew

        Honestly, so was I.

      • rhywun

        Resolutely NOT disappointed.

Many/most(?) people pay their property tax through escrow. Yet government doesn’t offer a withholding plan. And no mobs storming the county assessors office in November. Or tax levies getting rejected on the ballot.

    • RAHeinlein

I honestly did not know that a significant percentage (at-least of mortgage holders) pay property taxes via escrow…concerning.

      • R.J.

Yes. I haven’t met anyone down here who doesn’t.

      • R.J.

And I vote down every tax increase. They get enough money.

      • kinnath

I pay my property taxes directly. No escrow. Paid twice per year here in Iowa.

The original mortgage required us to pay taxes via escrow. But we refinanced before the 15 year mark. There was no requirement at that point to pay via escrow. The bank doesn’t want to deal with it if they don’t have to.

    • slumbrew

I pay mine directly, every quarter. I wouldn’t want escrow even if it had been an option.

    • Threedoor

      Twice a year in protest.

If I ever make the national news it will be over property taxes.

    • Gustave Lytton

Ours is three payments (3 or four months apart) but a sliding discount if you make two or one payments. We pay in full on the first one.

      • Threedoor

        Discount?
My county never heard of that.

      • Gustave Lytton

I believe it’s statewide because it’s the same in other counties. 3% discount if paid in full, 2% if pay 2/3 and rest in February. No discount if paid in three equal payments November, Feb, May. Had to look it up.

Or to put it another way, there’s a surcharge if you pay in two or three payments.

Bickering like an old married couple

Dammit, I was about to comment on that! And then they said it!

    • R.J.

And then they reconciled. For the children.

I think Salvatore from Eco Umberto’s Word of the Rose is the echo of the readers. All the readers, all their languages. He’s not the narrator, but their consciences. What would you do?

    • The Hyperbole

“Name of the Rose” and What I would do (and did) is carry around a copy of “Foucault’s Pendulum” to show all the assholes carrying around copies of “Gravity’s Rainbow” That I had better taste when selecting the book I would carry around but never read.

      • groat scotum

Turns out women mostly think we’re still assholes.

    • rhywun

I vaguely remember being assigned something by that guy in an architecture or planning course (?).

I don’t think I even cracked it open.

      • The Hyperbole

His essays are much better than his novels. He suffers from too much cleverness in the novels, in his essays he doesn’t have time to make the reader work hard to suss out the punchline/point so he puts his wit/meaning front and center.

I’m thrilled to learn to always keep a backup. Was worried something suddenly broke, and it may have, but I still have its persnickety predecessor. Always a pleasure being proven wise.

    • rhywun

Yup. The one time it saves your neck makes it all worthwhile.

      • Tres Cool

I still keep a slide rule. Calculators take batteries.

    😡

I hate cheap shots in video games.

So, XCAM2 with all of the DLC has boss characters who will drop in on other missions to make things suck. For three of them, they get random traits per playthrough. The Assassin in my playthrough got “immune to melee” and “vulnerable to explosions”. Fine if she drops in on a normal mission. But she only ever seems to drop in on zombie missions.

Zomvies (“The Lost” in-game) are theoretically a third party and will attack both sides, but since she’s immune to melee, they can’t hurt her. Plus, explosions cause more zombies to be spawned in. Oh, and she tends to trigger more zombie spawns with her actions too. So the first time the Assassin dropped in on a zombie mission it became a shitshow.

The second time and I’m debating ragequitting the run.

    • Evan from Evansville

      (Is she cute?)

      • Evan from Evansville

        Damn.

      • rhywun

        Jinkies!

    • rhywun

      video games

I was gonna ask on the forum if anyone had pulled the trigger on “Crimson Desert”. I know one of you lot has wishlisted it but the forum was broken and I said fuckit and decided to gift it to myself and start playing tonight.

Funnish but it froze my machine around an hour in and I had to kill it. 🫤

  6. Gustave Lytton

Taxes done. Been slammed at work so last minute.

Kind of fucked up this year. Somehow ended up with higher withholdings than I should have, plus one time credits and ended up with a large refund. Dammit.

    • rhywun

      LOL

Locally, the voters blame the shitty roads on the university for not paying its “fair share”. It’s all radical leftists here so hm maybe complete bullshit.

    • rhywun

It’s mind-blowing that the current crop of Dems is too radical for that corrupt greaseball.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — An American YouTuber who sparked national outrage in South Korea for provocative stunts, including dancing on a statue honoring victims of wartime sexual slavery, was sentenced to six months in prison Wednesday.

The Seoul Western District Court found Ramsey Khalid Ismael, a self-proclaimed internet “troll” known online as Johnny Somali, guilty of multiple charges, including obstruction of business and distributing fabricated sexually explicit content.

Prosecutors had sought a three-year term for Ismael, who also faced accusations of harassing staff and visitors at an amusement park, disrupting a convenience store by blasting music and upending noodles onto a table, causing similar scenes on a bus and subway, and distributing non-consensual deepfake videos.

I’m glad Korea ain’t fucking ’round. Since South Korea’s inception, all but one of their presidents have been in prison or worse.

    • rhywun

I am all for American narcissist fucksticks being taught a lesson that most of the rest of the world is sick of their shit.

*high five* My least favorite provocateur activity: *Young women* purposefully instigating nastiness and gloats on about it, pretty much begging to get beaten, but remains high n mighty and is allowed to continue her insanity.

Then, if she gets rocked like she should, it’s suppose to elicit a “HE beat the shit out of HER?! Well I never!”

Girls have been cozy-hammocked into thinking nothing they do could be met w violence, cuz how dare anyone? (This is good training by the Useful Idiots’ Puppeteers. UIs go ’round and starting shit cuz of course they can’t be touched. Then they get beaten and that headline will be re-framed to fuck some white dude over.

However many victims and martyrs created or saved!!

    • rhywun

Wait until Trump hears about this.. another excuse to attack and entire ethnicity

      lol

      JFC I hate leftists

      • Threedoor

The skinnies give us plenty of reasons as it is.

    • Threedoor

When they are done with him they should send him to Somalia and later claim it was a translation issue as that’s how he referred to himself.
