Millennials Discover the Trolley Problem

Alternative title could be “Just pick a goddamn button”.

This is my review of Great Notion Stamper American Coffee Stout:

The latest social media craze involves choosing between buttons. I am not referring to the two bad choices aka”the daily struggle” meme. Someone actually thought this was a prescient question to ask the mob.

The question of course:

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

Lets break this down…

Everyone in this democracy is hell scenario has two choices, red or blue? If a simply majority, 50% + 1 select red, only those selecting red survive and everyone picking blue dies. If a simple majority, 50% + 1 select blue, everyone survives. Since you can probably read this in English, you are probably wondering why would anyone pick blue…right after thanking a soldier of course for being able to read in English.

I was not the first to notice the disconnect in the way this question was worded. In fact I will be the first to admit I thought this was stupid as the what color is the dress internet debate and ignored it on its face. Then I found I had completed my task of thanking a soldier (yo, thanks Swiss), and read it.

Why pick blue? Are you suicidal? I genuinely want to know. At first I saw it was Mr. Beast posting it and assumed it was just his braindead following but others chimed in asking the same thing and kept getting the same result: people are willing to pick blue with the risk they’re voting in the minority and going to be rounded up and murdered for having out-group preference. If 100% push red, we all live since nobody pushed blue in a 100% red scenario. Seems simple? Until you realize somebody is going to push blue out of ignorance, disillusionment, disinterest, or pure spite. Now you need to convince enough people to push blue just to save them from themselves. Once again we are stuck having to remove self-interest out of the equation in order to cater to the lowest common denominator. As always, all progress is dependent upon the unreasonable man.

Rejoice lumbersexuals! They’ve created something new for you! Okay, that’s mean. Its just a coffee stout, and not a bad one at that. One of the reasons I like coffee stouts is that it leaves my breath smelling like I just drank coffee, which means your AAA sponsor, boss, parole officer, and your mother in law will never notice you’re 3 beers deep, especially if you chase it with some black coffee.* Great Notion Stamper American Coffee Stout: 3.5/5

*Note from Glibertarians.com legal team. This is terrible advice, do not try to get out of a DUI by masking your bad habits with coffee.

My answer is to find the asshole responsible and shoot them in the face. It shouldn’t be too hard, they most likely are a tenured Professor of Ethics

Hitting someone with a bike lock?

What if you chug a bottle of whiskey right in front of the cops? Then they can’t prove you were drunk before they pulled you over.

I just saw that episode of The Practice.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Mr. Beast is a creeper?

    • Common Tater

Some people say his smile is creepy, but heard nothing besides that.

I think the obvious assumption is only people you don’t like would push the blue button, and you’d be rid of them.

And if you get “outvoted” you survive. It’s winning, all the way down.

      WAS NOT.

My kingdom for an edit button.

Something something inherent goodness of man.

Yesterday I rode by the house where Swalwell was renting a room so he could pretend he lives in his district. I expected to see him sitting on a lawn chair in a stained wife-beater and boxers muttering to himself but he wasn’t there. It’s like he’s disappeared.

I was shuffled away from Pickup this morning. On Break #1 from bagging. Well. It is less work. More people coming through I don’t have any real responsibility over, I just bag their shit.

Last girl I bagged for is mighty cute. (Would un-wrap.)

Well. I’m glad I’m even-keeled and adaptable at work. We’ll see how this goes. Might be sent elsewhere.

Boys coming over for the horse race, later. Should be fun. Fond memories of Ellis Park near Evansville.

The pick blue people changed the phrasing to include babies children the blind etc and say these cannot make a good choice so everyone should press blue. If the question is all able adults it is different.

Red and blue button pushers: who’s smarter?

In a mostly-subscriber sample who took a brief verbal IQ test, the answer is…

    Blue pushers!

If the whole population has an IQ of 100 with an SD of 15, their mean IQ would be 101.9, versus 97.0 for reds.]

I would re-wire the buttons so the red button triggers blue, and vice-versa.

    • Fourscore

Can I not push both at the same time? Rid both Red and Blue.

    • dbleagle

Evil, but not evil enough. I would rewire to shock anybody who pushed a button.
