Bovine Parasites

My favorite thing to make is carne asada. My family likes it, and they ask me to make it all the time. Unfortunately with the ubiquity of Chipotlé they’re constantly asking me to make them “burrito bowls…

This is my review of Great Notion Stacks of Coconut Imperial Breakfast Stout:

My Anglicized children are not the real issue here as the issue is never the issue—the issue is the revolution. So to make carne asada I usually use skirt steak, since its fairly inexpensive, is lean overall but unlike other lean cuts it takes on a marinade pretty easily. Beef has begun to be more expensive than I would like, and so the demand for cheaper cuts has driven the price up for everything else.

Not my photo

But why? There’s many reasons why. Between the EU culling thousands of cows in recent years, drought, tariffs, regulations on the industry from farm to table, I am reminded I am old enough to have seen videos on global warming depicting 21st century life as one where eating beef is a luxury. They sure can’t away from triggering the conspiracies.

If that wasn’t bad enough, they decided to scare the hell out of everyone into thinking beef is bad for you anyways. Alpha-Gal is the new scare, and it doesn’t help those little bastards are spreading to parts of the country where they weren’t previously. Then there are stories of ranchers finding entire boxes full of ticks on their property, they insist aren’t really there. Truth be told, Alpha-Gal does scare the hell out of me but there are experimental treatments for it involving acupuncture to reset the immune system. Besides where I live mosquitoes are the more likely vector for Bill Gates’ genetic experiments.

Then they want to throw this shit at me…New World Screw Worm? They’re just making shit up at this point to scare me into wanting to eat ze bugs. Screw those people I just want some tacos.

I can’t for the life of me ever consider drinking an 11% ABV stout for breakfast. No, not even in Vegas. That’s for the people who take their drinking seriously. I clearly am not one of those people, so what is there for me here? Well…to bad for me there’s another problem…
🚨 🚨 WHITE GIRL BEER 🚨 🚨 WHITE GIRL BEER🚨 🚨

Okay its probably not so bad. Its mostly the coconut. I will simply admit now that I only bought this as a single, and my short hand suggests I wasn’t in sound mind when I was writing notes on it. So finding a second would probably do me some good but I can’t find it now. So with that I will give it a fair score. Great Notion Stacks of Coconut Imperial Breakfast Stout: 2.9/5 11% ABV

“Truth be told, Alpha-Gal does scare the hell out of me but there are experimental treatments for it involving acupuncture to reset the immune system.”

    Sounds like bullshit.

    • Common Tater

“The treatment itself is unusual. Patients do not ingest or get injected with alpha-gal. Instead, they simply touch a vial containing the allergen while clinicians identify a reactive point on the ear using electrical detection. A tiny acupuncture needle is then inserted into a specific auricular zone and left in place for approximately three weeks. Afterward, patients without a history of anaphylaxis slowly reintroduced mammalian foods in small amounts. In most cases, symptoms reportedly did not return.”

    I bought a whole filet at $9.99/lb and a tri-tip at $7.99/ this morning.

Sounds as real as the conspiracy theory stories about destroying food processing plants from a few years back.

Never had shrimp ’til I was about 20 YO.

French bread in VN frequently had weevils. At first we tried to pick them out but realized after baking it really didn’t matter.

      • Nephilium

A frequent thing on homebrew forums is someone complaining about finding weevils in their stored malt, and asking what they should do.

The general response is, “Brew with it.”

After grinding, mashing, boiling, fermenting, and clearing, there’s nothing left that’s going to hurt you, and the added proteins help with head retention.

      • Ted S.

I didn’t have shrimp until I was an adult, either, although in my case it’s because my dad has a seafood allergy so it’s not as if the rest of us were going to be having fish for dinner.

The fleas have taken over the circus

The union representing Forest Service employees argues the agency’s proposed reorganization violates a law that states government funds cannot be reprogrammed without advance notification and approval by House and Senate appropriations committees.

“We had this language specifically put in there on purpose so that they wouldn’t do any kind of reorganization and they’re absolutely going against that,” said Steven Gutierrez, one of the union’s representatives, who said the committees were not notified in advance and did not authorize the Forest Service’s proposal to close facilities.

Without the Forest Service there would be no botanists. All knowledge of scientific forestry would be lost.

Burrito bowls are the way to go. Let’s use Chipotle: ~$14 for a bowl, and that’s easily three meals for me. All in a bowl, easy to reheat and no sogginess. Put whatever ya want in ’em, I don’t care.

Biggest advantage of being small in a super sized world? ‘Normal’ food feeds me 2-3x. I strongly approve of this.

    • rhywun

Agreed. I always get stuff in a bowl there. Even if I eat it all I just don’t like all the wrapper.

Alpha gal. I thought that was a new name for Girl Boss. (It should be, as long as she’s properly neutered.) (Who knows now?)

“Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergy to alpha-gal that can develop after a tick bite.”

I don’t recall ever being bitten by a tick. I’m sure it’s happened. “You’ll always find more of what you’re looking for,” yeah? Well, with more tech, we can always find something wrong with you! Unpopular (and not real) thought: Make Living Dangerous Again! Back in the day, if you lived til you were 4, ya were something of a beast. Now? Every snowflake is (and *is*) special and they ‘all’ make it. Predictably, less healthy genes live and pass on.

As we’ve exploded in both prosperity and peace, our species has accumulated more shitty genes, and thoughts, that are allowed to grow and reach adolescence. Combined, jealously and bitter hatred bring us the backlash against Sweeney and her stunning jeans.

(Shitty part of being a sex symbol. ‘Gotta’ sell it, really. It ain’t gonna last forever. Get a good agent. (She did, it seems.))

    • rhywun

She absolutely has a good agent. It is going to make her fabulously wealthy at this rate.

National security is nothing compared to global warming

The Trump administration is in “active dialogue” on creating a petroleum reserve in California, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told POLITICO on Friday, a move that would boost oil infrastructure in the state and undermine Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s bid to shrink the state’s fossil fuel footprint.

    ——-

“California is a military launch pad for the Pacific Ocean, a huge amount of facilities here,” Wright said in an interview after a tour of Sable’s oil facilities in Santa Barbara County. “What is it that we can do to make California and our national defense more secure? It just stands out as this very unfortunate expensive energy isolated island.” The administration was “in active dialogue” about potentially setting up a reserve in the state, he added.

A new reserve would come to a West Coast that has few pipelines connecting it to the rest of the country. But it likely would draw opposition from Newsom and other California lawmakers who have tried to reduce the state’s dependence on fossil fuels especially after multiple pipeline ruptures have sent oil washing up on California beaches over the past several decades.

Arrest Newsom and try him for treason.

    • rhywun

Why do you hate expensive energy??

Storing oil in the Golden State might not be as advantageous as it first sounds, said Bob McNally, head of energy consulting firm Rapidan Energy and former energy adviser to the George W. Bush administration. The state has lost much of its ability to process oil into finished gasoline, diesel and jet fuel after companies have retired their refineries there, McNally said.

“With California shutting down refining, not that big of a deal,” McNally said of the news.

The state has “lost” refinery capacity. One day it just vanished. We looked under the refrigerator and everything.
Nobody has any idea what happened to it.

We can convert our military aircraft to rubber band power.

    Deng Xiaoping did nothing wrong

    @Marxist777
I guess then Deng Xiaoping and his rightist cronies didn’t disband the Peoples’ Communes, reintroduced and encouraged petty bourgeois agriculture through the so-called “household responsibility system”, stripped workers of the ‘Iron Rice Bowl’, allowed farmers to hire labourers, allowed the creation of private businesses (i.e restoration of capitalist relations of production and exploitation), allowed foreign capitalists to open businesses in China (allowing international monopoly capital to exploit Chinese workers), privatised over 70% of all SoEs, causing inflation to increase by 18% in both 1988 and 1989, create an ever growing bureaucrat capitalist class, and last but not least, betray proletarian internationalism, by not only abandoning support and funding of revolutionary movements around the world, but going as far as funding the bourgeois and fascist states to crush the revolutions.

Soooo….I saw a few days ago that Jaime(sp?) was in Italy/Sorrento (still haven’t visited myself) and then saw last night (reading from earlier in the week) that someone else was also visiting Italy.

I’ve got most of next week off if anyone is in the Naples/Caserta area and wants to meet for a meal (possible…but not definitive – there are several transit strikes scheduled this week, etc). Easiest way to reach me is probably to DM me on the twitter @fishlikesflicks

Also just preordered my new 11th Edition Warhammer 40k box. I’ve been thinking about an article on getting into the hobby – but it’d be pretty long/complicated – and a lot more visually interesting to just watch youtube videos. May be able to work something out though if anyone other than UCS is interested.
