THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY — MINNESOTA FRAUD EDITION: Il buono – over 7,700 suspected “ghost students” who took student loans, but no classes, found by the Minnesota Department of Education. Il brutto – Those ghost students already cost the Minnesota public university system taxpayers $12.5 million. Il cattivo – Finding this out cost the taxpayers an additional $3 million, apparently in the form of a grant from the US Department of Education. Your daily, both-sexes, ‘nad tap.

FREE-SPEECH WINS, BUT TAXPAYERS FOOT THE BILL: A North Carolina high school student has reached a $95,000 settlement with her school district after she was publicly accused of vandalism and told she was under police investigation. The controversy revolved around painting a campus “spirit rock” with a Bible verse and patriotic message in tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The school had previously approved this, then retroactively withdrew permission.
Y-CHROMOSOME DISAPPEARS IN OLD MEN, ON THE WAY OUT ANYWAY: Feminists rejoice, that icky Y-Chromosome is disappearing from the human genome. But it may take five million years. For us men, it’s a more immediate and personal issue. As some men age, they are losing the Y chromosome in their blood, brain, or immune cells, and that could have serious health effects. Your daily nut-punch (sorry, ladies, this one is for us only).

The Reason Many Think the black Community is Run by Idiots. Because we are being outworked by immigrants who barely speak English, and are not embarrased, and the only word we know is racism.

I call bullshit on the half of what people buy to wear goes unworn from the Daily Wire article.
Which is both unknowable, and irrelevant to the main thrust of her article. I know that neither of those is true for me; I only buy things I actually wear, and I donate or gift anything I outgrow to Goodwill or the random donation box.* But you and I are not women, Ted, and I have no idea about their fashion buying habits.
(*)Things which can’t be resold domestically are sold in bulk to third-world buyers where they are ultimately resold in marketplaces, thus the meme of third-worlders wearing Swallwell campaign shirt.
I haven’t bought clothing in years. I got sturdy clothing and haven’t worn it out yet. (though I’m starting to get too small with my weight loss.)
Are they counting each sock separately? Are babies’ diapers inflating the stats?
Inclusive of underwear, I doubt I’ve purchased 70 new items of clothing in the last 20 years. I’m certain I haven’t in the last 10.
(though Iβm starting to get too small with my weight loss
That’s a good problem to have.
Women’s “accessories” included?
@DEG – ππ
Of course, keeping it off is another hurdle to overcome as time goes by.
I’m on my third new set of jeans and second new set of shirts in the last 12 months. I expect I will need to buy new jeans in another 2 to 3 months.
Congrats on the weight loss, UnCivil.
I buy maybe 30 clothing items a year, I wear them until they are no longer wearable.
Is this a lady problem?
It’s an ad pretending to be an article.
Guess who is sleeping on the couch tonight?
Tonio doesn’t have that problem.
Nobody I know has that kind of throwaway money.
I have way more guns I’ve never shot than clothes I haven’t worn.
Like UnCiv, I’ve got the good problem that everything is too big now, so I could potentially get near that number. None of it will end up in the trash, all of it will be worn.
I’m probably on Pat’s level in buying clothes. Mostly shoes and jeans. I have so many left-over work shirts from my old job I’ll probably die before I run out of them.
Yeah, Iβll join the chorus balking at the 70 number. There have been more years where that number was countable on a single hand than years where the number was more than 20, and that includes counting each item in the sock pack.
Probably, but whatever the % actually is Americans likely buy a staggering amount of cheap clothes, wear them just a few times, let them clog up their closets, and then throw them out without wearing anything out.
I had to throw away a 15 year old Dr Pepper shirt I bought at goodwill the other day. My work shorts are becoming monochromatic on the black/dark blue end of the spectrum. Dark shirts = winter rear under flannels so they last longer.
I keep seeing a commercial for some internet outfit where ladies (it’s always ladies) sell their clothes “they don’t wear anymore”.
Just a foreign concept to me.
I donβt even buy that many individual socks and pairs of underwater a year.
I retire 2-3 t shirts a year. My old regular wear shirts become work shirts. Since Carhartt pants have gone into the crapper I have to buy three or four pairs of pants every two years or so.
I used to be on the same cadence, but wife switched me over to the crunchy deodorant so I donβt get armpit cancer, and I go through shirts twice as fast. Oh, and I have the added benefit of smelling like sandalwood and BO. (https://babylonbee.com/news/man-buys-clean-non-toxic-deodorant-so-he-can-smell-like-sandalwood-and-also-bo)
I cut carbs and Iβm only noticeably stinky on the days following when I eat bad. Went to the amusement park four days ago and the ice cream and elephant ear
Made me nasty.
I am so, so sorry.

Nah. You don’t get it. At all. Woke corporate stances derive from the monoculture of the business school to C-suite pipeline. Woke is who and what these people are. They’re pulling back ever so slightly on their moral crusades because of a dip in public sentiment, but will return to them as soon as it is safe to do so.
“monoculture of the business school to C-suite pipeline”
My personal experience is that it’s neither a monoculture nor a pipeline anymore. However, the political and social viewpoint definitely leans left. However, only outside their direct experience. It cracks me up too.

A Rochester woman was ordered held on preventative detention Monday after allegedly leading New Hampshire State Police on a chase along Route 101 last week.
Kathleen Feeney, 45, has been held since the pursuit last Thursday.
Police said Feeney refused to stop for troopers in Hampton, leading officers on the pursuit. During the chase, investigators said, she was involved in a minor crash with another driver but continued driving.
During Monday’s bail hearing, police said they aren’t sure why Feeney didn’t stop.

I figured I’d do that too this year: Keep the money working. Didn’t work out too good – my bank stock was down about $5K today on speculation the Fed will actually talk about raising rates on Thursday.
Since I’m still salaried I can just dump extra into withholding towards the end of the year. As long as the govt gets their money in the calendar year it works out.

The left in particular has been locked into this mode for about as long as I’ve been alive. They want to LARP as ’70s radicals without any risk, and they’ve mostly succeeded since the ’70s radicals took over substantially all of the institutions.
Agreed. Also explains the new so-called “woke” right. Conservatives got tired of being lectured endlessly, and became reactionary in return, because trying to explain your thoughts results in commies screaming and throwing things. We are now at the stage where the right will begin screaming and throwing things too. Personally I welcome it and will get some more popcorn.

βOne of the dumbest things I ever said came when I argued that βchildless cat ladiesβ across the Democrat Party were running our country into the ground,β Vance writes in the book, a copy of which was obtained and read by NBC News.
βThe comment caused two firestorms: the first when I made it, the second years later during a political campaign,β Vance adds. βIt was a boneheaded comment, intentionally (and successfully) provocative rather than illuminating.β
Vance, who at the time was running for a Senate seat in Ohio, made the partisan crack while appearing on Tucker Carlsonβs Fox News show. We don’t know what the issue was, but here is our crystal ball predication.
It has 8 engines, highly doubt that was the issue here.
I would swear I have seen a good number retrofit with 4 engines. Maybe I’m hallucinating.
Nah, the Air Force is sticking with eight, for reasons that go back to the plane’s original design and the stresses the aircraft can take.

Lovely day out with 5 and 11yo nephews and Mom. The elder is very timid, but he’s oddly maternal with the younger. He pretty constantly follows 5xy, one of the few times he’s openly verbal. They had fun at the Newfields Art Museum, and I was surprised by it. They had a beautiful ~50-100 marble sculpture (Funerary Monument of Flavius Agricola) that was pristine. Wet drapery sculpture is fuck-off impressive. (I can do that but I don’t wanna.) They also had a ~3000yo sarcophagus top, which was also impressively preserved.
Our time in the park became paper airplane time, and I’m glad I know how to make a few varieties. Good time had by all.
Furthered a flurry of applications this weekend, and they’re out in the employment ether. We shall see.
Thats awesome Evan.

I know. I know.
No idea where to go to take care of that stuff. I see a lot of commercials for that Trust&Will outfit but no idea.
My wife and I each have a trust, with the other as the trustee. We also have a trustee after the both of us are gone. In the Yellow Pages (or on line) you’ll find someone that can handle financial/legal matters.
The local guy was $250 an hour but he quoted the price up front for the package. He’s an attorney with his specialty being Financial Services.
Depends how complicated things are. If itβs simple like βthis person makes all the decisions, and give all my stuff to STEVE SMITHβ, you might be able to get away with one of the better online form tools.
If itβs any more complicated than that, itβs worth having a lawyer look at it. Theyβll usually quote you a flat fee for it.
We did a fairly complicated one 10 years ago. Then we lived 10 years, decided to simplify, changed the executor. We got rid of some real estate, paid the cap gains but lessened the burden for the executor.

@rhywun you have a straightforward situation. All you need is a durable power of attorney for financial management, a durable power of attorney for medical decisions, and a will. Different states may have different names for the DPOAs but they are conceptually the same.
I am trying to get the paper work gathered up to simply things when the time comes. It isn’t as easy as it should be.
I learned that my wife had an IRA that she’d forgotten about. It was only accidental on my part, she has never taken out any and apparently it was just rolling over. In seriousness, Iβm happy to chase down referrals for folks if you want a lead on a lawyer who does this stuff for a living. I may not be a great help in most states, but I can try to get you plugged in with somebody. That especially applies for the states Iβm barred in. I have the most connections there.
I am absolutely interested trshmnstr.
We live in east central Iowa.
We’re giving away as much personal stuff as we can, now. It’s absolutely amazing how much accumulates over a lifetime, useful stuff. 4 vacs but everyone already has theirs. I’m still using the outside stuff, lawn mowers, snow blower, chain saws but when the time comes it’ll stay with the house, along with the major appliances and furnishings. The new owner can use it, sell it or donate it to a local charity. An auction sale is a pain in the ass and doesn’t make any money.
I sold the cabin, which was really a 1 bedroom little house, Completely furnished to include a boat/motor/trailer. I don’t know if the new people had a bonfire and I didn’t care.
MY daughter recently got married (again) to a bachelor who had been taking care of his mother. He owns 3 houses, one of which my son is renting. All 3 are full of furniture plus collections and the new husband doesn’t want to part with it, ’cause it was his mother’s or father’s. My daughter told me that in the house my son is renting there is a storage shed with 1700 coffee cups, the parents collected them and the son can’t part with them. All the old furniture, a good bit of antique, I understand, but the son doesn’t want to sell it or get rid of it (just yet).
Being a bachelor he has no family members that are interested, his sister lives in an apartment…
Substitute ID for that and you have a deal.
Woah. Had a jokey response a while ago, but stopped cuz folk might be takin’ it seriously. Then I see this!
Hrm. Well, I don’t have *those* problems. Any of ’em! I’ve got $4500 to my name and no debt. So. To be Mr. Brightside looking from the outside, I’d say those fall under the general umbrella of ‘Good Problems to have.’ (Like so much cash your wallet won’t shut. “Gosh darnit!”) I also observe they’re still in the ‘Remarkably complex and stressful problems to have,’ so. Take the whole shaker of salt w my thoughts.
Joke away! Its just after third parent I am thinking the pre-X gen gave two fucks about all this and we get to clean it up.
I’ve bequeathed my most precious Firsts to Butters in my latest will. He will never go hungry or homeless when I die from The First That Shall Change Everything. The time is nigh.
I had to pay a $45 charge to hope TSA will allow my son who doesn’t have a RealID to fly out and say goodbye to his papa…cause…reasons. Fuck Congress, Fuck Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden and Trump again for not looking at this bullshit and realize…its retarded.
He doesn’t have a passport?
No.
Also…passport to fly domestic is retarded
Yeah my last passport expired a couple decades ago and I have no intention of going abroad any time soon. REAL ID requires taking a day off work for travel. I guess I’m not flying any time soon OH WELL.
You’d think if it was a genuine security concern they would just stop him from flying entirely instead of trying to get their palm’s greased.
Corporate America and our government have both become just straight up scammy and they work together to fuck us all. Nearly everyone just focuses on the part they see because you know aint no one reading thousands of pages of legislation or doing basic research to see government fuckery.
Unpleasant occurrence: Stressful, bases loaded moment for the Cubs. Reminded me for the first time in a while that even good excitement shifts my left hand into tremor mode. Controllable ones, but it goes up with my pulse. Pretty strong ones.
Oooh, which does remind me, I may wanna go over what I’m gonna say to my neurologist tomorrow. No bad news to report. Maybe wanna think of better phrasing, always feels strange. (That inning went okay, but could’ve been better, and almost blew up in the bad way. It remains an exciting ballgame. Hands all good. Strange, that. )
Ho hum. Netanyahu says he will continue to attack Iran and Libya as he sees fit.
What exactly did we accomplish here? I don’t know how anyone with a functioning brain can frame opening the strait as a victory since it was, ya know, open before we started attacking. And I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen the winning side of any war pay reparations as we are here. You can call it an investment package or what the fuck ever you want. You’re rebuilding your enemy after you started a war with them. This isn’t a situation where you occupy the land and achieved unconditional surrender.
Laughable bullshit.
And I’m sure that Trump will pretend that they really DID take out the nuclear program this time. Super cereal about that. I mean, yea they claimed they accomplished that last year now as well but you can totally take their word for it now. That was TOTALLY the reason this war was started.
It astonishes me that there are people on here who are supposedly distrustful of government, but who have gone all in on every dumb fucking thing Trump claims. They were about as much of a threat to us as a pissant is to a lion. Only now the US has taken a massive blackeye right after the surprising success in Venezuela. Tinpot dictators throughout the world will get better bunkers and know that as long as they stay alive, the US aint really about shit.
I agree with all your points about Trump. I dissent on the idea Iran was not dangerous to us. Since 1979,their government has referred to the US as the Great Satan. I take them at their word. They have been working on a nuke and have an active missile development program. We saw them fire multiple missiles 4000 km during this war that wasn’t a war. They are a danger.
None of that excuses Trump’s utter ineptitude.
That’s some good Firsting, Bro.
Chafed – there’s no shortage of places you can point to on a map where people in power point to us as a boogieman or devil responsible for all of their problems. Nor do I believe that the government of Iran is so batshit crazy into their religion that they’re going to cause a nuclear holocaust or put themselves in a position to be obliterated completely.
I’ll be blunt – Iran has been a more responsible actor during all of this than the United States. Last June during the “12 Day War” as Trump named it they showed remarkable restraint. So much so that you’d think they really were incredibly weak and about to collapse on their own. They held back and let the United States humiliate them (along with Israel which I’m sure really stung the most). Maybe it was a long game on their part. They weren’t ready to do battle with the Great Satan yet.
Regardless, when the towers fell it wasn’t a bunch of Iranians flying the planes. Iran may supply an occasional terrorist who gets an American, but even that’s not common. Saudi nations receiving funding from the House of Saud directly have killed more Americans than Iranians.
Marco said it at the start of this whole affair. This war was about Israel. To be blunt, he might as well have just said for Israel. When he outright contradicts Trump himself on the reason for the war and says it has nothing to do with the nuclear program or long range missiles and it’s because Israel was going to attack anyway, it has nothing to do with any rhetoric that comes out of Iran or any imminent threat they pose.
Agreed on all. Devil’s advocate, and the bit of the operation I approved of in the back of my mind: Bombing the Ayatollah and Israel killing all the runners-up when they met the next day to pick a leader.
That part, was fairly ‘cool.’ Kill the ‘religious’ leaders, let the Persian people, already pissed at their leaders, do what they see fit, *dusts hands* walk away… But, obviously we didn’t and weren’t gonna walk away. And now, yep. Bullshit. Scare the Chinese? Yeesh.
Just like Bush I encouraging the Kurds and Shiites to rise up and take care of Hussein.

You see, the Earth rotates at a rate of one rotation per twenty-four hours. So inevitably you will each the same point in that rotation again.
Well, the Earth is orbiting the sun and the sun is orbiting the center of the galaxy, so we’re technically quite a ways away from where we were 24 hours ago.
You changed the frame of reference, Ted, go one further and set the center around another star in a galaxy on the far side of the universal center, make it even crazier.
Q tells UCS off
“Morning” as an event is a system involving only the rotation of the planet and the angle to the sun. So the Earth is literally the center of the universe in the frame of reference where “Morning” has its definition. The galaxy, the time of year, they can go screw themselves
