Oh.
Who knew that getting “free” money makes people happy?
It’s amazing that many seem to prefer being locked up in their homes under penalty of arrest if only they receive a bigger government check.
Collecting a check, sitting on your ass watching Netflix, and ordering take out every day appeals to a lot of people.
This is why UBI is a popular idea.
I suspect that the reason that a lot of intelligent, highly motivated people think the UBI is a good idea (looking in your direction, Elon…) is that by virtue of being intelligent and highly motivated, they don’t ever interact with the dim and slothful underclass that would be the UBI’s likely recipients.
It is bad for society to have a large number of people sitting on their asses doing nothing.
Why do you hate effectively ending poverty?
I’m not one of these post-scarcity Utopians or anything, but this is going to become more and more of a problem as we continue to automate away the tasks for which most average people are intellectually and physically equipped. Which isn’t to say we ought to continue relying on less efficient labor just for its own sake, but not everyone was cut out to “learn to code” 10 years ago, let alone now when the jobs going forward are mostly going to be in cleaning up Indian vibe code. Thanks to nukes we don’t cull the aggressively stupid via periodic warfare anymore, and there’s only so many Amazon and Uber Eats deliveries to made in a day.
I ran out of time the other day to mention socialism’s contribution to the misery of Trainspotting. Squatting, tower blocks, dole, begging, heroin, methadone clinics…
And yet millions of Americans are cheerfully voting for much more of all of that.
as we continue to automate away
We aren’t automating away the trades, nor do those jobs require a college degree. I have no problem with the death of HR via AI.
I don’t mind already useless HR jobs going away but I feel some small sympathy for entry-level brain workers. Not everyone is suited for the trades, either.
Fair enough, but there’s also only so many roofs to be installed and sewer lines to be replaced, and without a home owning middle class, the demand for trades is liable to taper off substantially as well. At a certain point, you just can’t square the circle of 100 million $20/hr baristas, call center agents, and Uber drivers paying $120 an hour to the trades to fix their $350,000 3 bedroom house. Something will give.
As the population ages the demand for the trades will only increase.
The lights don’t keep themselves on.
” Which isn’t to say we ought to continue relying on less efficient labor just for its own sake”
I actually am starting to become a fan of doing exactly that. Just as offshoring was destructive, UBI is destructive, for the reasons that Toxtieth mentions.
We aren’t automating away the trades
Yeah….
Prisoners feel uncomfortable when let out of the jail.
Awwww… DOD ended the Are Mormons Christians? twitter battle. I still had popcorn to eat!
Missed that one.
DOD trimmed down the religion affiliation codes and put all of the other Christian denominations under Christian – xxx except LDS. Mormon politicians asked why aren’t we labeled as Christians, too? Which opened the door to back and forth over whether LDS is Christian.
Solomon Hegseth ended it today by removing the Christian label from the rest.
Hey.
Islam has a ‘Jesus’ too!
T’door, Mexico has a lot too.
Oh no… that is not going to go over well.

But it has Jesus Christ in its name …
RoaT. Let me tell you about the inflation reduction act.
400 pages of name calling that could be boiled down to “It depends who you ask.”
Thanks for putting this up, RN. I forgot that I had taken over this slot, and was working on scheduling out the week until Nephilium reminded me.
Mea culpa.
We will accept ashes and sackcloth as penance.
Happy to help: “We live for the Glibs, we die for the Glibs”
…we die for the Glibs…
Hey, wait just a damn minute, I didn’t sign up for that. Oh Hell, at this point what difference does it make?
I am a Glib. We walk in the dark places no others will enter. We stand on the bridge, and no one may pass.
@Neph.
I also considered:
“Can you vouch for the loyalty of your men?”
“We pledge our loyalty to the Founders from now until death.”
“Then receive this reward from the Founders. May it keep you strong.”
Get ready for your spanking Toino.
You can’t threaten Tonio with a good time.
Although I must add that it is better to give than receive.
Financial pressures have indeed been mounting. Covid policy sent that into overdrive. Fraud to the tune of hundreds of billions per annum is rampant all over the country, and there seems to be a faction (**ahem-democrats-ahem**) that wants to make sure that stays in place. We’re all fucked.
Something is going to have to give at some point, and I’m afraid that “government taking far less of your money” isn’t on the table.
You can add GOPe to that list. They were just as complicit in shutting down DOGE before it ever did anything permanent or meaningful.
DOGE was pretend from the get-go. Congress decides and if DOGE has no relationship with Congress, then it was bound to be as effective as we are at getting what we want implemented.
BRAC Final Ultimatum: This Time It’s Permanent!
Result: JB EveryInstallationOnEarth
BRAC – the source of $1B worth of building at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Letting in millions of illegals and giving them free everything didn’t help either.
No. It didn’t help. It poured diesel fuel on to the fire. Billions upon billions of tax dollars go to supporting illegals. Their food, housing, medical care, etc are all paid for by taxes.
The founders would be highly disappointed in us that we haven’t strung up those responsible. We’ve been robbed. Many of us have had our futures robbed. All to support people who only clamor for more and call us Nazis for not freely giving it to them.
Dems had back-end political power, jobs as sinecures, and an NGO army. No way they were going to give that up without a fight.
Add a couple million federal employees to that.
that is the back end I am talking about. The ability to rush things, or, even more important, slow things down, cannot be overstated.
I’m looking for an alternative to COBRA for when my layoff takes effect. Anybody have experience with Health Shares?
Cobra, tell the commander that I want in.
I’ve heard mostly positive things from health shares. Much cheaper than unsubsidized insurance, and even the expensive stories have been no worse than what I’ve experienced being on insurance.
If I didn’t have medical insurance that was moderately subsidized by my employer, I’d be looking at health shares very seriously.
Yeah, I suspect my employer was paying a large share of COBRA when I was on it. The charges to me were not all that painful.
In NJ some of those alternative plans will get you a NJ version of an income penaltax.
I looked into it and joined one this January.
From what I remember, most of them will not cover any preexisting conditions for 1-2 years. Since I’ve always been a really healthy person, this was not an issue for me.
Since I am a vaper (ex-smoker), I did not qualify for some of the more popular health shares. I believe one of them won’t take anyone who ever smoked in their life, and another you must be tobacco free for a year.
The one I joined is called Zion HealthShare, and the plan is HSA America for the health savings account. Haven’t had to use it yet, but it’s much better than ObamaCare. It’s about 38% of the cost with a $5,000 deductible compared to $11,000 under ObamaCare.
I like that they will negotiate prices for you and recommend places to get cheaper care. I also like that I am not limited to any single hospital group. I can basically choose where I want to get care. It was a slog reading through all the different options, but worth the time to get a good idea of what each service offered.
Here’s a song I recorded of some local musicians doing a song in honor of one of your old names.

Thanks for the tip. Found it. https://www.glibertarians.com/2025/07/not-health-insurance/
Are the Pies listening?
Also needs a bounce. Caught a match last week and this came up and I did not believe my ears. It’s bad enough that the umpires aren’t properly attired anymore but this is just too far.
Yeah, it’s kind of sad. Not sure who they think they’re appealing to.
Of course, I’m old enough to be disappointed that there are teams located outside of Victoria.
I’m kind of surprised Melbourne still has the ability to support all the teams they have there.
Can you imagine MLB with like 15 teams in NYC and 15 more sprinkled around the rest of the country.
I watched a documentary on Peacock this weekend called Ice Gold. It’s the story of the 2002 Paralympic sled hockey team, who won the first gold medal for USA.
The RIC Blackhawks team played a big part. That’s my team, though the name changed 2 years into my career. I did wear an RIC jersey. I know 2 of the Chicago guys on that gold medal team. The Chicago coach was also a big part, he thought he should be the Paralympic coach and when he was denied, he caused a big stink. I didn’t know him, but my current coach took over his job and had to untangle a big mess.
I’m not sure if any of you will find it interesting, but I did!
That sounds cool.
Well, they are all the descendants of prisoners.
My thought exactly.
We’ve been in Bologna for just over a week now. It’s called “the Red” as it’s a medieval city built with bricks and there’s a high iron oxide content in the soil here, so many of the buildings have a reddish brown colour.
Also because there are lots of commies here. I get that they are opposed to fascism, but they think in binaries: you are either a fascist or a communist. The are no other options.
Obviously because I speak English I must be American and therefore must have voted for Trump and therefore am a fascist. QED.
I just got back from 3 weeks in Italy. Politics didn’t come up once, though there are an awful lot of streets named after Gramsci.
I think ZARDOZ has swiss-napped Swiss, who is being held in a cell deep in the arboreal depths of Cascadia, where Pictish shamans dwell and giant serpents slither hither and yon.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Also, thanks Raven.
I was just at the southern end of Cascadia last night.
I left my roll up door unlatched in hopes that cousin Steve would swing by but alas he did not must have been busy with Swiss.
Let’s see… the government locked you down in your homes, inflated your purchasing power away, and imported millions of third world peasants who are culturally antithetical to your way of life, driving costs for food and housing up while your wages get pushed down and you get taxed more to support them.
Pretty much every western nation’s government in the world did this.
The question is why?
No comment. I am sure we are all on enough lists already.
Yep.
We’ve all been severely disenfranchised. My wife makes about 60% more than she did when Covid started, and we’re worse off than we were then. The cost of everything has skyrocketed, and our property tax has risen substantially, in that time. I took a job primarily as a means to try and keep us above water. Time will tell if that helps much.
And what’s worse is I’m not sure I see a way out. Taxes are not going anywhere, and neither is the fraud. As soon as OMB is out of office and team blue retakes control, the illegals will again start to pour in, and they will raise taxes on everything.
We’re fucked.
The only way out of taxes is to shoot your way out.
And collectively were too soft.
I learned recently that the school district just to the north of me just accessed about $100M Covid Bux to shore up from over a decade of rampant spending and now being hundreds of millions in the red.
How the fuck is there still Covid money accessible? Why has it not been returned?
What the fuck.
About 2 years ago my county was able to install about $15M of turf athletic fields by using Covid money.
How the fuck is any of this okay?
I haven’t had a meaningful raise (more than 2%) since before the plague. Meanwhile teachers and hotel maids are getting huge raises every year and are almost making as much as I do after working my ass off for years in my spare time to teach myself how to Learn to Code.
Powerful unions control local governments everywhere and are robbing the rest of us fucking blind and nobody gives a shit.
(Also, I suspect that most of the raises I might have got in previous years have been hidden from me in the form of covering exploding health care costs instead.)
My wife makes about 15% more than she made 5 years ago when she started at her current job. But they’ve been massively slow rolling promotion. They’ve been telling her “it’s coming”, but then when that time comes, there’s always something that delays it yet again.
Tundra RINO laughably claims Alaska school children need H1B visas to be educated
https://x.com/lisamurkowski/status/2064081485234348191
Horseshit. Is she claiming that, unlike every other state, there aren’t already too many teachers?
I could see that some “school districts in rural and remote parts of the state” have trouble attracting teachers for a number of reasons.
My grand daughter and husband are teachers in a remote village (Galena) in Alaska. She said they get Philippine temps, 2 year contracts, in the village, this past year there were several.
They have been there 5 years now, bought a house.
Maybe but if it’s that important move your family where it’s easier to find a good education.
PS. I just got “verify you a not a robot” some have complained about. I clicked the box and the page went blank. Hmph.
My grandfather was an electrical engineer for over 40 years who was primarily educated in a 1-room schoolhouse in Nowhere, FL, with my great-grandfather as the school’s teacher. The people of rural Alaska can do the same.
“Tundra RINO: not affiliated with Tundra Glib.
H1-B visas are legal indentured servitude.
Change my mind.
Why would I when you’re correct?
I’m of mind that all H1-B visas should be halted. Hire Americans. If we don’t have enough, train them.
Virtually all other immigration should be halted too. We need a moratorium. And every illegal needs to be sent the fuck home.
Also, if we’re so dependent on hiring foreigners, why the fuck aren’t those companies moving to where the so-called talent is instead of importing them all here?
H1-B is a fucking scam designed to depress wages.
Impossible. Companies self-certify that they advertised the job they specifically crafted so as not to find any qualified candidates domestically, couldn’t find any qualified candidates domestically, and then also self-certify that they’re paying the “prevailing wage” to their H1-B holder, where the “prevailing wage” is an aggregate average of “substantially similar” jobs, and where “substantially similar” means comparing a T1 help desk agent with a senior database engineer, since they both technically work in “Information Technology Systems.”
Tangentially relatedly, we bring in fuck loads of foreign physicians on O-1 visas as well, owing to our “doctor shortage,” while the AMA twists arms in the accreditation bodies and residency placements to ensure we turn away thousands of medical students from US DO and MD programs each year.
I have frequent contact with the medical industry & observers of my current docs. Every one of them has been a foreigner. I guess the need is urgent.
Where does she expect to find them, Russia or Canada? Those are both hostile contries

Semi-related (and also for Neph): https://freethepeople.org/kol-its-time-to-legalize-home-distilling-guest-robert-alt-ep-389/
New Zealand stands alone in Western countries that have full legal home distillation.
Now, I know quite a few people who acquired home stills for water and extract production only. Growing up nearly every Croatian or Serbian family had their own slivovitz that would generally qualify as proof alcohol.
Neph – The Jungle Bird is also very good, although tricky to balance. I’m tempted to do a tasting, using each of the overproof dark rums in my collection – the problem of course is that I’d pass out in my reading chair before making a decision…
I don’t really give a shit if it is legal. I do what I want.

I’m not even going to touch that.
I was gonna make a joke about it, then I changed my mind about what it was gonna be, or really, if I *should.* Then I started ‘making’ pizza.
Along the lines of: ‘Don’t out him! His supposed virginity’s how he’s counting on making more than $20 tonight!’

I am watching “The Jerk” with my daughter who pronounced it to be “cringe.”
I’ve never even sat through that. Was never a huge fan of that guy.
I just looked at her Wikipedia page and it claims that no one knew she was not actually an American until after the end of her run.
I doubt even Brits are that gullible. I called it within a couple minutes. I mean, she’s an OK actress but not THAT great.
She had a photo of her running on a beach in a bikini with the American flag. I cannot find it. But I found this.

Good lord did they ever do some fan service with her.
Wood tick stuck where the sun doesn’t shine. Braille to scrape the critter off. He/she is on the way to the Big Underground Swimming Pool.
Little known fact. Wood ticks can’t swim. They don’t have enough weight to break the water’s surface and just flail around on the top.
So far this spring I’ve picked off about 6 ticks but only 2 were stuck.
If you’ve got enough ticks that they can spell shit on your ass, ya might wanna go, uh. Do something drastic. Well. Scraping’s a start?
I hope they’re clustered together: “FEED ME”

Lol. The comments on the original are savage. Poor LT….
That the army still uses round chutes is full on retarded.
So. I get here to the job a bit ahead of my guys- they’re bringing the equipment from out Cleveland office and the project is in S. Central Ohio.
I had some time to kill so I roll into BK for some lunch that I actually ate indoors. Sitting in the booth I thought, “ya know- I kinda have to poop. But its not rush- I can crank one out here before I get to the plant.” About that time, 8 construction contractors hit the door, head to the shitter, and form a line. Knowing it wasnt a crisis, I thought “meh- Kroger is across the street. Its noon on a Monday. No WAY their bathroom is occupied.”
So I go into Kroger, head to the bathroom- again, not a crisis. At this point Im not sitting on a cigar or anything.
But when I walk into their 1 urinal, 1 stall plan I see the stall is occupied. BUT- that occupant isnt on the toilet. In fact he’s about 3′ in front (I can see his feet and the base of the toilet). I’m at the urinal, letting flow the aqua vita, waiting on this dude to leave. He doesn’t. Feet-toilet…he’s about 3′ ahead of the toilet facing away. Then I hear it- the distinctive shutter noise of an iPhone camera.
“WHAT THE FUCK?”
30 seconds Im standing there, holding my crabbed organ, and it goes off again.
This dude is taking dick pics in a Kroger restroom while I’m holding back a shit.
This is how NA card’s foretold my week?
I… I… I’ve got nothing.
Hey. He coulda been taking pics of his dump. Like when it’s all right all right all right. Ya wanna show it off.
Dad, repeatedly, always joking but sometimes serious: “ANYONE WANNA SEE THIS BEFORE I FLUSH IT!”
(I think the joke comes from his days in the Army Reserves.)
How many courics did it measure?
nah playa- this dude (I could see his feet) was well ahead of the toilet
Fuckin Buster Browns or Hushpuppies on his feet. Facing away from the toilet
Some old dude taking dick picks when I needed to shit. Did I stumble across some weird Craigslist “understall jackoff” location?
Is it some OnlyFans?
I just had to poop and I was personally inconvenienced by some guy (allegedly) sending dick picks. I should have said something.
Shoes facing away from the terlet to take dick pics doesn’t make sense. There’s no room.
You should have just shit on the ground right in front of the closed door of his stall.
Yes.
I see you have been to the Tri-Cities
Are you sure it was a man?
Today was rather chill. I’m always up in my head thinking I have to explain everything to people, and forget I can kinda just *be.* Oddly difficult to remember that, let alone ‘do’ it. I got myself clicked into that gear right as the day started. Me and my one colleague actually talked today, mostly cuz I became in the mood. We had to unload five big pallets in a bit of a time crunch, but only that one truck.
At three, my lunch, we were put on Returns, and I discovered XY Colleague actively detests doing it. Again paid to walk around by myself and do put individual items were they belong. (Sweet way to get paid.) Got 10.77 miles today, plenty of upper body work. Contrary to Colleague, I got exactly what I’d wanted last night, and got to roam around with no one over my shoulder.
Lots of time to walk and think. Always a plus, there was a throng of talent meandering with me in the aisles. Impressive. Thought of Muzzled as I walked by the deli. *salute*
*Returns salute
*Farts savagely
*Continues to drink whiskey
I just had to turn on the AC because I’m having hot flashes or some shit.
It’s supposedly mid-sixties outside but the thermostat confirms 79 and it’s humid as balls. Sometimes the weather here and the air movement through windows conspires this way. A couple days ago it was pushing 90 and no prob just running a fan.
Update from SiL’s bestie:
“Hi, I’m bi! 🩷💜💙
To me, saying this out loud is not only self-affirming, but part of my journey towards being a better ally to the queer community! Sexuality is a broad spectrum. Let’s normalize that. 😎”
======================
I, well. I can even. Even Evan can. But I just don’t fuckin’ wanna.
Heteros and homos across the land salute your dedication to removing yourself from the dating pool of not crazy people.
That leaves a very small dating pool.
Hey, look. I’m crazy. I was able to get married and procreate. Fortunately, both of my children are not on board with this life path.
The (relatively sane) bisexuals would like to stand up and be counted with you all here.
“Broad spectrum”, man if they are just casually throwing up lob passes like that on social media it is probably a good thing that I don’t operate in that realm…
I don’t know if I’ve ranted HERE about the concept of “comps” when submitting a book proposal to agents/editors, but tl;dr:
Author: “Anna Karenina, Confederacy of Dunces, and Morning Glory Milking Farm had a love child.”
Agent: “Those books are old. Nobody knows them. Last two years, max, please.”
My objections to this practice are many, but my MAIN one is that if you did that in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and early ‘00s, you would have been seen as an amateur. It was not only frowned upon, it was actively discouraged at conferences and workshops.
“If you mention any book title that is not yours that might be similar to yours, I will mark your name down in my book and never take another submission from you ever again.”
Tonight I ran across a lady who probably doesn’t know the Way We Were, who’s out shopping a manuscript. She’s an English professor. Wrote a good substack article I actually read all the way through, then looked at her profile. Usual lefty/proggy nonsense, but I looked at this thing she did, which was like a fucking MOOD BOARD for her proposal’s comps. I’m half delighted, half horrified, but 100% enraged that this is even a thing.
I know WHY it’s a thing. I can even appreciate its efficiency. “Tell me that you’re derivative, but not TOO derivative, maybe 73% derivative, of the two books that made the most money last quarter.” I mean, if you’re gonna prospect for gold, might as well tighten your focus.
Anyway, here: https://x.com/krystalelkhoury/status/2017463119124037651?s=61&t=h5BOKTRU9mc6OIfm7REElw
Politics, genre, subject matter is irrelevant. The way she fulfilled the requirement fascinates me. It’s a) pretty and b) gives me no vibes. The point is VIBES. Maybe it’re because I don’t know the comps.
As far as I can tell the publishing industry has always been broken, and is just more broken now.
Queernorm!
All her characters blather on about socialism in between scissoring…?
That sounds like a dull read.
This sounds like colonization from the TV and movie industry. Pitches in that field invariably start out, “…it’s like *MOVIE_A* meets *MOVIE_B*.”
I didn’t think one could discern the difference between vandalized and unvandalized Poughkeepsie
More Arians.
Someone crudely graffitied what I think reads “Rodriguez faggots” (the g’s are backwards) on the parking garage across the street a couple months ago. The city owns it so it probably won’t be removed for months more, if ever. Not even considering they might have their hands full dealing with one of the other two parking garages they own a couple blocks away which they recently shut down because it is falling apart.
Good morning all you so broke bitches that we can’t afford new articles.

How are you today, U?
I’m still sleeping from mid afternoon to midnight, which is suboptimal for living, but at least lets me make it to work.
😟
How are you and yours?
OK. Ninja Cat is ignoring me at the moment, which is fine since his presence tends to decrease my mobility. Got a few things to do today at work, but don’t foresee too much trouble…other than the temptation of a big jar of peanut butter M&Ms a coworker put out in the break room. 😖 Then it’s off to the rec center after work to try to exercise off whatever I was unable to resist.
