Ultimate Thursday of July Afternoon Links

by | Jul 30, 2026 | I Am Lame | 57 comments

Welcome to the final Thursday of July. Only seven more weekdays until school starts and the absolute chaos of Summer ends. Thank the Lord! My older two are with their grandparents in NorCal. The went to see Alcatraz. I wonder if they are too young to see Phil Hartman’s fantastic performance as tour guide in So I Married an Axe Murderer

Someone thought it would be a good idea to pair a 16 year old girl with a single male cop for an explorer patrol. It appears he explored her quite thoroughly.

I’m not sure I want mushroom clothes. No matter how much you wear them, it still can’t make you a fun guy.

We must protect John Connor at all costs. I’m also willing to father him as long as it is 1984 Linda Hamilton.

I think we know how these cults from California end…

About The Author

Brett L

Brett L

Brett set out to find America, the real America, the America of strip malls and serial killers, of butthole waxing and kelp smoothies, of cocaine and maggots. He sought it in the most American part of America—Florida: swamp gas and fever dreams, where love arrives on a rickety boat and leaves when it doesn't have the money for its fourth abortion. Oh, where has Brett gone? He’s drinking at the neck of America’s wang, chewing its foreskin and working its shaft. Brett is becoming legend. Brett can never die. Brett can never die. Brett is America, facedown in his own patriotic puke: the red his blood, the white his stomach lining, and the cold, cold blue his gas station slushie, spiked with coconut rum and tetracycline.

Someone thought it would be a good idea to pair a 16 year old girl with a single male cop for an explorer patrol.

In their defense, you really shouldn’t *have* to think “Of course a 32 year old male cop is going to try to fuck the 16 year old police explorer.”

    • Threedoor

Look it’s Dieago and Dora’s culture.

Don’t be racist. She was past her quinceañera.

No matter how much you wear them, it still can’t make you a fun guy.

Don’t worry, it’ll grow on you eventually.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

My question is, if you wear them, will you be kept in the dark, and fed only horseshit?

      • Shpip

I’m sure there’s morel to the story.

      • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

        Sounds pretty shiitake.

Well, we have this all buttoned up!

I think we know how these cults from California end…

One of their biggest boosters becomes governor twice?

Also, she doesn’t look bugfuck nuts at all…

I get that I’m subnormal, but I have no idea how people find crazy to be charismatic. She looks like a younger, tranny version of Kenneth Copeland.

    • bacon-magic

Crazy eyes for sure. Still would.

“how these cults from California end…”
A nice cup of phenobarbital and vodka should help with those shakes. If you lack the faith to choke it down just mix it with some Kool-Aid.

The country needs more tent show snake handlers.

And for your hot take of the day: Sonic Youth was a bunch of overrated, pretentious nepo babies. No wave and alt rock had better representatives who lacked the trust fund to purchase themselves a career.

    • rhywun

I like Daydream Nation a lot but never paid attention before or after that.

    • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

Pretentious maybe. I had no idea they were nepo babies, though I guess when your name is Thurston that kind of comes with the territory. I still like them.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

And Pat shows himself to be ded rong. EVOL is a bomb album, Death Valley is also great. And, like the Velvet, they influenced so many other bands it is not comparable (except to the Pixies.)

      • Pat

I neither love or hate them. Not a huge fan of Kim Gordon’s voice, but that’s matters of taste. It’s not to say they’re necessarily bad, or poorly representative of their genres, just that they probably wouldn’t have been as influential or received as much industry praise had they just been a bunch of schmucks in the NYC avant garde scene and not the offspring of hippie academics.

Did anyone consider those shaking folks at the book signing were good old fashioned plants? Younger people these days think they invented everything, they’ll probably fall for the old parlor tricks.

“Pastor Chris Rosebrough has similarly accused Krick on YouTube of accepting an unhealthy level of admiration from followers that should be reserved for Jesus alone.”

I’m getting a good chuckle out of this line, after reading excerpts from Fauci’s diary this week.

    One of my pet peeves:

“US GDP increases by 1.5% in second quarter”

Is that an annualized 1.5% growth rate, or an actual 1.5% increase?

    • PieInTheSky

As long as number go up we good

    • Pat

Is that an annualized 1.5% growth rate, or an actual 1.5% increase?

In either case, it’s driven entirely by government spending and therefore only “growth” in an inflationary sense.

We must protect John Connor at all costs.

I for one welcome our new AI overlords

    • Threedoor

It helps that you record that sentiment long before they take over.

On the whisky front i could not bring myself to spending 100 for a pour of george t stagg and setteled for 55 for a pour of Thomas Handy Rye, their cheapest BTAC offering. I quite liked it. It was good. They had two offerings and i took the lower abv 125 and i did not feel it hot. The other was 135

    • B.P.

Handy is amongst my favorite brown spirits. I have an unopened bottle from 2010 in my cabinet. I’m sorry I’ve missed your North American adventures, as I could’ve hooked you up with some good bourbons.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        Eh, everyone likes a Handy.

      • PieInTheSky

Well who knows what the future may bring 😀

      • The Other Kevin

A rich orange guy could become president of Romania, and Pie might have to leave for his own safety, and to preserve democracy.

    • EvilSheldon

Not judging, and I do enjoy bourbon and rye, but for over fifty bucks that pour had better be from Scotland.

It feels strange to see two sets of links when only one exists when I am back home.

    • Gender Traitor

You’ve had so much to drink you’re seeing double?

      • kinnath

He’s out hunting when the second set publishes in the middle of the night.

    • The Other Kevin

It is fun to see you all over this PM links post.

    Scotland’s grotesque male-breastfeeding experiment

There were once moral red lines. Children were not to be used to gratify adult desires, and the state certainly wasn’t supposed to facilitate such behaviour. In today’s Scotland, those lines have been erased. LGBT Health and Wellbeing – which receives hundreds of thousands of pounds per year from the Scottish government, the NHS and local councils – runs weekly Edinburgh support sessions where men are encouraged to give ‘human milk to their babies’.
    […]
Even setting aside the obvious medical questions about feeding babies hormone-induced secretions, a more fundamental question remains: why do some men want to breastfeed at all?

Readers of a delicate disposition may wish to stop reading now, because what I’m about to explain is grim. Some men have a keen sexual interest in the functions of women’s bodies, and many who identify as transwomen become aroused by everything from menstruation to the menopause. At the time of writing, on a major porn site accessible in the UK, there are 48,163 videos tagged ‘lactating tits’, and some of the most popular within that genre involve men leaking liquid from their nipples. The male performers in these videos have artificially enlarged their moobs with hormones or the use of breast pumps. What they do not possess is the female breast anatomy and physiology designed to nourish an infant.

Yet claims of male breastfeeding are nothing new. Nearly a decade ago, a man called Dana Fried wrote in the Stranger that a ‘queer lactation consultant’ had given him drugs in the week before his partner gave birth. He reflected: ‘When my baby attached to my breast, there was an incredible chemical cascade that ran through my entire body like lightning. Imagine the most electric thing a partner has ever done to you, then multiply it by 10.’ He then added: ‘And yeah, I kind of got off on it. Don’t judge.’

What would you expect him to say?

Ferrari is pleased with the launch of the Luce all-electric vehicle despite significant criticism upon the car’s debut, according to CEO Benedetto Vigna.

He said Thursday that the famed Italian automaker “would not change anything” about the vehicle’s launch this spring, which caused a notable decline in Ferrari shares amid negative reactions to the car, including from former Ferrari executive Luca di Montezemolo.

    ——-

The Luce was designed by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and is a departure from the aesthetic of typical Ferraris, with a minimalistic interior design, screens and a bubbly exterior. It is Ferrari’s first all-electric vehicle.

It mwqkes all those old jalopies look like shit.

🙄️ He and Shepard Fairey should see if some company will give them a billion dollars each to do a “I’ve had exactly one idea in my entire career” collaboration.

We finally got the Apple car and are surprised it’s not white.

They could have at least made it the translucent colors of the old iMacs.

WRT the article on the cult.

Is this proof that there is no God and the atheists are right? Because there needs to be some serious smiting going on, and much to my regret, it isn’t happening.

    • Pat

And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the [b]end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will mislead many people. And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.

“Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. And at that time many will [f]fall away, and they will [g]betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will rise up and [h]mislead many people. And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold. But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.
