Trump administration formally bans gain-of-function research
Which will be ignored by the permanent bureaucracy that is really in charge.
OMG stupid MAGATs want things to be less functional! They hate siuns!
And the research will continue in China, Ukraine, et al. and we will probably still be paying for it.
In my lab, we #resist!
Pound resisters?
Yeah, I thought it had been banned and that’s why they outsource funds through NGOs to labs in places like Wuhan in the first place.

Comey complaining about vindictive prosecution is rich.
He’s calling himself as an expert witness on the topic.
The DNC takes seriously our duty to protect the funds provided to us by millions of patriotic Americans chipping in to fund our mission of stealing that money for ourselves
Yeah right. The whole group is fraudsters. Whoever stole it was just doing what they have always done.
“millions of patriotic Americans”
We ought to know.

Now go after the ‘consultants’ who scammed the donors of the Kalamity Harris campaign to the tune of over two billion dollars.
Hopefully it was a Somali, even though $29k sounds like chump change to those guys. Also cue “They were only trying to feed their families” and “They have insurance.”
I thought it was the Libertarian Party that got scammed of thousands? And fought back by misappropriating donors who thought they were buying a permanent hq building.
Anyone who leases a fucking cellphone needs to be permanently sterilized.
Oh, and good morning, everyone!
Is leasing really all that different from paying installments and then trading it in as soon as the phone is paid off (or the provider convinces you to refi the balance)? *** looks at the drawer of old phones that I really should destroy someday
No. It’s not.
As I said yesterday, a huge chunk of Apple’s phone customer base swaps to the latest version every time it’s out, so functionally it won’t change their experience.
I never understood that. I pay cash for it, and use it for at least 5 years.
The thing that infuriated me the last time I bought a new phone (other than the obviously deliberate degradation of battery life each ‘update’ that forced the purchase) was that in order to get a discount I had to pay it off over 24 months. If I paid it off even a month early the price went up by $250.
I don’t love the installment plan payments either.
Boy that sucks.
I will probably go to eBay and buy last year’s model for half price when the time comes. Buying new vs. one year used is very little difference.
I bought my current phone outright when my last phone’s battery could not longer hold a charge (as in literally dead within five minutes off the charger). I picked it for the battery life. Then got rid of any program I didn’t actually need.
Even years later the charge lasts more than a week.
Ditto, RJ. A shade under seven years on my first smartphone; four and counting on the second.
“You will own nothing and be happy”
It’s kind of a throwback to the old Ma Bell days. I seem to recall that at some point you didn’t own those phones either. And, yeah, I think the “free” ones you get from some cell service providers are essentially leased, anyway.
I’ve had a few duds over the years, but on average, a phone gets me 3-5 years before it’s either physically falling apart (android) or running slower than a grandma with a bum leg (apple).
I went with a basic iPhone (1 generation older than latest) the last go around and it’s holding up well a year in.
trshmnstr – My Pixel 5A decided to load an application, lock up and refuse to turn back on. It’s been my worst phone to date. Only two years or so old.
My 8A is going strong (knock wood) and I’m planning on running that into the ground. Prior to that I did the same with my Essential phone.
How is it different than a car, which people swap out/upgrade every 2-3 years?
I don’t do that (I just went to an iPhone 18 from a 13) but it’s not that uncommon.
I also try to buy slightly used cars and keep them for as long as I can.
I get my cell phones for free from tracphone.
Well, they are making them the prices cars used to be.
I buy mine from Amazon.
I have been a n exclusively Samsung Galaxy holder since I got my first smart phone.
I had to replace an S6 when I dropped it in the ocean, bent the S10 that replaced it a few years ago, and my current S10 is still going strong.
Like cars, I keep them until the wheels fall off.
Last iPhone I got I sat it on the back of the skidsteer to keep it out of my pocket when I was doing some impact style work then jumped in the skidsteer and promptly ran over it.
Had to replace the screen and now the charging port is failing.
I have the S9 and it’s been a beast for 5+ years.
The last time we got phones the gal at Verizon asked us if we were going to finance the cases.
It gave both of us pause and we laughed, one of us said ‘what kind of a moron finances a phone case?’
She was not amused. I’m thinking she was that moron.
Carrying over from the ded thred:
There is a game where the point is to build the most accurate rifle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkthsIs71OA
They take the human out of the equation. The rifles are bolted to rails and triggered remotely.
That stops being a shooting challenge and becomes an engineering challenge.
Different kind of fun.
Direct fire artillery.
Speaking of which, iron sights at 1k yards is what Palma is all about.
Real shooting, no rest, no glass. No pussies.
Sounds like you’re asking for a lawsuit if you’re excluding Female shooters as a rule.
I’d make a snarky joke about harness racing being better than F1 in your world, but this year that might be true.
So, we have established that, in general (DB, 4×20 and I excepted) Glib shooters are pussies.
No, Zwak, we have established that you are stuck in the 19th century.
Time has passed you by.
Should everyone who wants to learn to code start of by asking ChatGTP for code? If you want to cook, should you learn by ordering FACTOR?
No, you start with the basics, learn what you are doing, and once proficient, move forward. There is a reason that the Olympics do not have a scope class in shooting sports, as it would be no different than having a robot arm division in wrestling, and why Lance Armstrong was removed from cycling in disgrace.
Yes, Zwak, people learn to code with machine code and never move on to compiled languages then to interpreted languages.
Your argle bargle Iron ad absurdum stance is embarassing, even more so that you don’t recognize how much you are embarassing yourself.
I rarely feel like saying this, but…okay, boomer.
For everyone else out there who doesn’t conflate a love of obsolete technology for manliness – ‘The basics’ are far easier to learn with an electronic red dot sight. Do yourself a favor and get one.
Embarrassing myself? How, wanting people to become better shots, and learn the basics of riflery?
That is embarrassing?
Because none of what you advocate for helps people become better shots, nor helps learn “the basics” any better. Descending in to name calling when it was dismissed as outmoded shows that you have no deeper argument. You stuck to a hidebound stance. If it is out of mere stubbornness, I can understand, but dragging it on over multiple threads just leads to head shakes and eye rolls.
I didn’t want to point out that you are actually advocating violating rules of firearms safety. One can not be sure of their target and what’s beyond it if they cannot see it. You might have been blessed with exceptional eyes (I doubt it) but most people are not.
Plus what Sheldon said.
You guys sound obsessed with static targets.
My targets move. And yes, dots are absolutely cheating with lateral movement (though vertical movement was no big deal when I shot irons-only.)
You will learn the basics of rifle shooting more easily if you start with a sighting system that’s easier to use. Stop trying to make things more complicated for new shooters, they have enough on their plate.
Real marksmen lay supine and use their feet as a bipod!
@NA – that’s a longbow technique, not rifle.
I used to be very good with iron sight on my M-16, then my eyes went to shit.
It seemed to happen all at onece one year on the rifle range.
It was embarrassing because the whole week leading up to shooting, I was making fun of the instructors and betting the others in my group I would get the best score.
When we started shooting, I could barely hit the target.
The next year we had ACOG’s and it felt like cheating.
I can shoot a pistol without reading glasses or optics, but long range rifle is not possible without one or the other.
https://researchpress.uk/marksmanship/art-of-shooting/the-back-position/
🤷♂️
This has been studied extensively and the studies uniformly show that there is NO advantage to learning on iron sights vs. learning with optics. It is easier to learn to shoot iron sights after mastering the basics using optics than vice versa. It’s just stupid stubborn puritanism mixed with a desire that everyone else suffer the same way you did starting out.
/looks around
/shouldn’t get involved
/shouldn’t get involved
I’ve tried a bunch of red dots. With my astigmatism and fucked up eyes, all I see is a blur that doesn’t help me shoot.
Then I tried a Vortex on my AR build. It is wonderful. I’d have to check the box, but I think mine might be an older version of this optic.
So for me for optics I like traditional scopes or prismatic sights like that Vortex. Irons used to be great, though as my eyes are rotting I’m noticing trouble with some. I have not shot my Berthier in part because of how hard it is to acquire the sights. There’s also a feed problem I need to solve.
I have a Lee-Enfield No. 4 on my workbench. Parker-Hale set it up, probably in the late 50s, for target shooting with a A. J. Parker TZ 4/47 sight. I’m looking forward to trying that out. But I suspect I’m going to like my AR with the Vortex better.
I just found out when trying to source an alternative pic, that the position is also called the “Creedmoor” position and that term and the associated cartridges are named after a rifle range in New York.
Huh.
@NA – that’s a longbow technique, not rifle.
I see Not Adahn beat me to it.
It was a real technique in the British Empire up at least the late Victorian Era.
That looks difficult and painful.
illustration:
https://www.glibertarians.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1_5DMj0UqutOE8XY_-DJtG6Q.jpg
I think that’s a Baker rifle in the illustration.
You’re not going to be able to shoot and scoot from that position. All you get is neck strain.
You’ll get a shattered face in that position lol.
But that sight radius tho.
The Creedmoor position (thanks NA, that was driving me nuts) was generally used with rifles having a much longer barrel. The shooter would often hold the buttplate behind their own head: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-npfddbcjUt0/T1hhzo0yCQI/AAAAAAAAA3A/oyHoDeSxxek/s1600/fulton.JPG
A variant of this position is sometimes used with handguns, too, no kidding: https://ssaa.org.au/assets/news-resources/firearms-in-focus/2018/Oct/IMG_3621.jpg
On handguns, at least, a red dot gives you feedback before and after the shot that you don’t get with iron sights.
With the rifles you can at least argue for some stability benefit, but that pistol position doesn’t look like it provides anything but “look at me do something odd and potentially dangerous” points.
So, run before walking? Automatic before leaning a stick? Anal before leering to masturbate?
Also, 55, so not a boomer.
Your anologies are not making sense, Zwak. Do you really grasp how your position compares to other activities?
I agree that none of those analogies make any sense, save ‘run before walking’ which is just the opposite of reality. Walking is easier to do than running, and optics are easier to use than iron sights. Starting a new shooter with optics is, quite literally, having them walk before they run.
And much like New York, boomer is a state of mind.
Going to have to get glasses and quit coffee to shoot irons at 300 yards anymore.
https://youtu.be/B203twyaMfM
I am glad to see that Sheldon has had anal before jerking it as a child (nanny state?), and that everyone here who laments the lack of stick shifts in cars and the knowledge of using them is a pure fool and cannot comprehend the greater control of the vehicle one gets from this knowledge. Control is the skill that is most necessary, in both sex and driving, and jumping past the basics may get you behind the wheel sooner, but it wont help you master either of them.
Yes, using a red dot is easier, but you WILL become a better shot with irons simply by the fact that the dot or cross hairs will cover the bullseye, and what you cannot see you cannot hit. This is why every legitimate youth shooting program starts with irons, and every serious international target competition is irons based, whether pistol or rifle.
Or because the people running them are blithely ignorant, set in their ways, and smugly resist any change. Irons do not give you greater control. That is simply factually untrue. The grip, movement and function of the firearm do not change, except conceivably by the optic adding a small amount of weight in a position that would minimally reduce rise and recoil. and optics have come a long way since whatever crappy dot gave you this trauma. Many allow adjustment of the size, shape and transparency of the dot.
I’m not an expert on this (Shpip, you around?) but haven’t a lot of high-level auto racing programs gone towards clutchless paddle shifters, which produce measurably better times on the track?
Control in shooting comes from grip, stance, and position. The sighting system doesn’t have anything to do with control, it provides information, and there can be no question that optics provide more and higher-quality information than iron sights do.
Gah, how did I miss this?
(I fell asleep early last night, that’s how.)
So yeah, from the description of the malfunctions, 90% your gas block is misaligned, 9% the gas port in the barrel is severely undersized, 1% it’s something weird. I can’t tell from the picture, how is your gas block attached to the barrel – set screws, clamp screws, or cross-pinned? If it’s held on with set screws (by far the most common method these days), was there a pre-drilled detent in the barrel for the screws to seat into?
Do not retrofit your AR with a piston kit. Most of them don’t work very well, and the ones that do are heavy, extremely expensive, and generally detrimental to the shooting experience.
There was no detent in the barrel.
The gas block is clamped, not set or pinned.
Boo. All AR barrels should have this.
Makes sense – clamp-type gas blocks are super easy to misalign. They have other advantages though.
You might consider something like this: https://gasblockgenie.com/gas-block-genie-750-barrel/
Thank you. Looks useful.
“Comey said he found the seashells arranged on a beach”
Does anyone believe that?
Not even tards.
I believe he found them arranged haphazardly by natural forces then rearranged them into numbers.
Democrat voters?
No, nor do I believe that 86 means kill, nor do I believe that even if it did mean kill it is within the power of the legislature to criminalize it, nor do I believe this is the only crime Comey has committed.
I find it demoralizing that almost everything that happens is wrong in so many ways that it spirals around between this is good, this is bad, this good, this is bad as the levels of badness cancel each other out.
Agreed. I am trying not to look at news because I hate both sides now. This is an excellent example.
Power will always be abused. Yet overwhelmingly people’s solution to this is “give more power to people I like.”
From a legal perspective, I’m of a mind that the seashell message is still protected under the 1st.
It’s just the schadenfreude of watching a man who abused others with the process get a taste of his own medicine that makes me not mention it as often.
I don’t expect he will see the inside of a cell for his actual crimes.
Of course it does not mean kill but IIRC the meme already existed and I believe he intentionally wanted to “send a message”. It makes him an asshole but not a criminal in my book. Well, not for doing that.
You’ll never get hooked up with these guys, Jar, with that attitude. You have to believe
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tpxXDILZHs
I believe it can mean kill. That’s how I understood it before, based on what I’d seen in movies. But enough people I trust have said they’ve used it in the restaurant business to mean to throw someone out. I think it can be used both ways and that’s the cutesy game they are playing with 8647. “Oh I don’t mean kill him. Well, not really. I mean if someone were to do it, that would be ok.”
I think the charges are kinda dumb, but I don’t believe him one bit.
Well, lying to an FBI agent is a crime, so maybe they can get him for that, based on his claims that (a) he just randomly stumbled across the shells and (2) he had no idea what it meant.
I would laugh my ass off if he was charged with lying to the FBI. I know it is wrong, but sometimes you just gotta laugh.
Hopefully he didn’t say that on an FBI interview form.

“A California clinician is facing felony charges after she allegedly groomed a teenage boy from age 14 — before raping him for three months after he left a juvenile hall where she was assigned as his therapist.
Bay Area prosecutors on Monday hit former behavioral health clinician Sofia Drotts, 26, of San Francisco, with shocking charges including unlawful sexual intercourse in connection with the case….
The college singled Drotts out for praise in a 2022 Instagram post that identified her as a psychology major with certificates in criminal justice, gender and women studies, and chicano/a latino/a studies…..
She faces other charges including sexual penetration by a foreign object, sending harmful matter to a minor, oral copulation of a person under 18 years of age and possessing child pornography.”

So she pegged him?
Why am I not surprised that there’s something wrong with her?
I’m just shocked that she doesn’t have her hair a flourescent color.
17 year old dudes hate blowjobs from 20-something chicks and incarcerated males are totally incapable of physically resisting 100-pound therapists.
Fire her, bar her from government jobs.

Oh yeah. I had hair that looked like a shrubbery. Nobody would tap that.

STOP WOMEN RAPING MEN

I want to rebut a fellow know-it-all, but I need verification of some facts.
When transporting goods by oxcart/ox-drawn wagon along established rural roads, is it viable to graze the oxen along the verges of the roadway, or do you have to transport feed?
Does the calculus change with draft horses?
Grazing oxen along roadway verges is highly viable and was the standard historical practice, meaning you do not need to transport heavy bulk feed. Oxen survive and maintain their strength well on grass and coarse forage found along established paths
If I may ask – what are you quoting from?
Just getting it from AI.
Okay.
Our web proxy blocks most AI sites from the office, so I couldn’t ask them. The one we do have access to is work-contracted and probably reports everything prompted to management.
switching to draft horses completely changes this dynamic. You cannot rely solely on roadside grazing for draft horses; you must transport supplemental feed. Horses have a much more sensitive digestive system and higher energy requirements than oxen.
I recall reading about the trouble the British had during the wars with the Zulus, namely, they relied on oxcarts for their supply train, and over the long distances involved it turned out the oxcarts were increasingly hauling ox chow, not military supplies.
There is also the fact that when the oxcarts are on the road, you don’t want the oxen feeding, you want them moving. So at the end of the day, there may or may not be enough forage for them wherever you stop, and you may have to feed.
An army’s supply train will contain many more draft animals than one dude taking product to market, and will wander over whatever terrain it must.

We should not allow people in our jurisdiction who have an arrest warrant by the ICC.”
He added, “People say, what about Americans? They don’t have any American arrest warrants. This is not talking about Americans who are subject to our own law. But that seems to be a consistent principle of international law, and I’d apply it to Putin like I’d apply it to Netanyahu.””

The International one!

Since America is not a party to the ICC, Khanna is once again talking out of his ass. And there is no such thing as international law, just treaties between nations.
It drives me nuts when I watch a movie and “Interpol” officers are involved in some type of police action. Interpol is basically a clearinghouse of information for individual countries and has no formal armed officers or arrest powers. International law is along the same lines, it’s whatever law other countries have outside of our boundaries, but is specific to those countries borders. But morons like Khanna don’t understand how anything really works, so why should dipshittery like this surprise me.

It used to be that pleading the 5th made you look guilty, but this should be rather easy for the Dems and their media monkeys to spin.
Insert Get Smart image!
It is hard to be made to look guilty, when you already look guilty.
He doesn’t need to take the 5th. He has the protection of the media, deep state, and DC juries.
I would laugh if he testified, thinking that the 5th waved his right to remain silent, and the pardon was found null and void due to shenanigans.
Just arrest his ass for terrorism on the premise that he funded COVID 19, then toss him in Gitmo for the rest of his days.
And CNN has noted the Fauci is already pleading the 5th in front of Congress.
“Four women have accused Jared Leto of criminal sexual misconduct, with the alleged offences having taken place when they were teenagers.
The allegations against the Oscar winner and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman, 54, come from when the women were aged 16 to 19….

“The vice president was talking about Richard Nixon. But it’s understandable if readers first imagined the face of Barack Obama. As Vance gears up to run for president in 2028, he’s clearly trying to position himself as the GOP’s answer to the 44th president, who remains the most popular political figure in the country.
Vance will likely never say this out loud. It’s possible, though unlikely, that he’s unconscious of it. But following his recent book tour, it’s hard to ignore how much the vice president fancies himself to have the charisma, demeanor and even the wife required to be the GOP’s answer to Obama…..
Like any cheap knock-off, with Vance the ruse becomes clear at even a cursory examination. The vice president’s long list of Obama-esque attributes read like ill-fated attempts at parody in the real world.”

What compels you to keep reading Salon?
At least they’ve taken a break from obsessing about the white trash Kennedys.
LOL what drugs are they on
He technically is because the media has done an all-out goodwill assault on his behalf.
He is sanctified by half the country and despised by the other half. Maybe that counts as “most popular” but only on a technicality.
The Steve Harvey Morning show(which I am lucky enough to listen to in the office) always refers to him as “our forever president Barack Obama.
I am not making that up.
It makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little every time I hear it.
I am so, so sorry you have to sit through that person talking.
They* think he was the bestest president of all timey, and, what with all the media support, have the polls to prove it!
*Yes, JI, THEY!
Vance may well end up bumbling his way into the Republican nomination, giving him a real shot at the White House, but it would only be because the GOP has a dearth of contenders to replace Donald Trump.
Setting aside the shallow bench Team Blue has, who would be serious contenders for the GOP nomination in 2028? Vance and DeSantis are the only ones that immediately spring to mind.
Some people float Rubio as an option.
Don’t forget Rubio.
I believe I’ve noise – even besides the many memes – about Rubio being a contender.
(heard noise)
I don’t think Rubio will challenge Vance. He will accept a VP slot.
MM, I could imagine that ticket being reversed if Vance held back for family reasons – Rubio’s children are older.
Who knows.
All I know is that the MSM will pull out all the stops to trash Vance at every opportunity. None of it will be believable or accurate but half the country will fall for it hook, line, and sinker.
Maybe Obama had charisma in person, but on tv he just came across as pedantic.
“Smug and Smarmy” would be the adjectives I’d use to describe him.
The word that comes to mind for me re: Obama is “imperious.”
Obama read well off of a teleprompter, but comes across as leaden off-the-cuff.
I knew one guy that spent a day at the White House around him. He said he was nice enough in person but couldn’t care less for him.
He comes across as pompous and shallow to me. I never saw the allure of him, just a speechifying empty suit.
“Organic eggs are twice as bad for the climate as eggs from chickens living in cages, research suggests.
According to the study, switching the UK’s entire egg production to an organic free-range model would lead to greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 2,316,000 tonnes of CO2 (tCO2e), while production through a fully caged system would emit 1,184,000 tCO2e.
This is because organic free-range models need more chickens for the same number of eggs produced, as birds living in cages tend to be more efficient.”

Yeah, but free-range eggs taste better, so fuck it.
I want a blind taste test to verify that claim. I’ll judge.
One round of scrambled, one round of hard-boiled,

Sorry, but to satisfy basic rigor you’ll need to include a round of poached eggs on toast.

I don’t mind mayo, but I was curious…https://www.southernliving.com/food/dish/deviled-eggs/deviled-eggs-without-mayo
Greek yogurt, sour cream, softened cream cheese, avocado (!), or hummus (!!!).
Okay, maybe cream cheese, but some of those are very, very wrong.
They’re weird, but I kinda want to try them anyway. Egg yolk with avocado, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, and apple cider vinegar…that could be pretty tasty…
“Vomiting would invalidate the testing by ruining the palette.”
and yet you want deviled eggs?
Deviled Eggs are best eggs.
they make devilled eggs?
Why in the world would you want to create such an abomination? You people – yeah, YOU PEOPLE! – ruining a perfectly good egg, perhaps one of natures most perfect foods, by doing… that… to it. Disgusting.
Fuck pale yellow eggs. Carotenes for life.

Thank me later.
The filling should start with – yolk, mayo, mustard, vinegar, salt, pepper, paprika. You can add the bacon to that.
Thank me later.
I think I’ll just cook the bacon, fry up eggs in butter+bacon grease, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and finely diced fresh jalapeno and throw the mayonnaise in the toilet where it belongs.
Stop being wrong, Putrid.
I hate mayo by itself, as in spread on a hamburger. It’s just nasty.
Obviously, the solution is to ban eggs, and substitute bug protein instead.
Feed the bug protein to the chickens, and the eggs will taste *even better*.

Insert that “suicidal empathy” article yet again. And almost certainly illegal but that has not stopped leftist localities from illegally imposing racial and sex preference in hiring for many decades.
Deport all of them.
This Fauci stuff is bringing back a lot of anger in me, and in a lot of others online. We’re reminded about how much we were put through while Fauci and the “elites” had dinner parties and enjoyed being on TV, ignoring all the rules they put in place for us.
My wife asked what the point of this was right now. It’s too late and nobody is going to be held accountable. I guess we’ll see, but those diaries are pretty damning and I wonder if that will move the needle a little?
I’ll say it again: Your average voter does not care. If they did, Ron DeSantis would be president.
DeSantis didn’t do himself a lot of favors because he doesn’t quite have the retail politician part down outside of Florida.
I was mystified – I thought he could win easily. I am not a Republican but if I was I might have picked him over Trump.

I remember the hell my neighbors were put through as he died from Parkinson’s and dementia.
I remember my mom not letting us see her since she was scared of my non vaxxed wife because she”followed the science”.
I am feeling the cold rage creep back in as I type this.
My Dad was in the ICU 2 years later and went into a full blown ICU syndrome hallucinatory state because we were limited to one visitor for one hour a day because of the nonsense. Fauci and that smarmy bitch running for Governor Acton make me hope hell exists
It goes to show how much of a soft people we are that no one has eliminated him in the last 6 years.
The only possible advantage would be a full, public exposure of the BS that MIGHT convince the uncommitted to resist something similar in the future.
Agreed. Nobody will pay for the vid nonsense. This is for voter consideration.
This. You have to start somewhere, and even a little accountability is better than zero.
“Are you lying now, or were you lying then?”
Dr. Anthony Fauci declined to answer senators’ questions at a hearing Wednesday on the origins of Covid and the government’s handling of the pandemic, saying he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right to avoid the possibility that Republicans could try to use his testimony to prosecute him for perjury.
The surprise decision shook up the hearing, which was expected to be contentious given Fauci’s previous public clashes with Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky.
In his opening statement to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Fauci pointed to Paul’s “obvious obsession with calling for my prosecution, his repeated slanderous comments about me” and his decision to publicly release the doctor’s personal journal.
Without Foochy we’d all be dead, you ingrates.

Go ahead, sue.
Yes please. Discovery would be fun.
I burns me up when I see “he was doing the best he could on a novel virus with limited information.”
If that was true, the recommendations would have changed as more was learned.
My mom asked me once if I thought I was smarter than Fauci. I told her probably not, but I can read a chart and I am honest.
Also, why did we totally revamp how we responded to a “pandemic”?
Also also, Why were any opinions that disagreed with “the science” censored instead of debated, if he was so sure he was correct?
My mom asked me once if I thought I was smarter than Fauci.
Mom, can you provide me any evidence that Fauci is smart?
Or less snide – How is that relevant? Dr. Mengele was by all accounts smart. Most of the scientists in Unit 731 were also smart. The Drs. involved in the Tuskegee experiments were pretty smart. By all accounts, many serial killers were quite intelligent. Most of them probably smarter than me. So can you tell me how being smart is a shield against being an amoral, unethical, evil son-of-a-bitch that deserves a lamp-post?
Excellent point, and one that I see missed quite a bit by the right-wing HBD crowd.
One certainly needs a certain baseline IQ to be a good and moral person, because a certain level of intelligence is required to understand morality as an abstract concept. Below that baseline level, one can still be a good and moral person simply by following the instructions of people who do have such an understanding – I’m sure we can all see the hazard in that. But above that baseline, there is zero observed correlation between intelligence and ‘being a good person.’
In fact, I think I could make an argument that above a certain intelligence level, the correlation is negative…
the correlation is negative…
Insert png of PutridMeat sweating over buttons labeled “I’m a sooper smart!” and “I’m a good person”….

What is the right-wing HBD crowd?
My mom.
An RN was all about the Covid bs until it was inconvenient for her.
Shot and boosted. Having immune and kidney issues ever since, deep mouth lesions she swears she’s always had along with lung issues. She’ll go to her grave believing The Science.
“Any reasonable person who has followed his unhinged obsession with me would readily come to the same conclusion,” he continued. “Therefore, although it pains me to do so because of the respect I have for the legislative branch of government and my decades-long record of cooperating with Congress, under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions.”
Crazy as a shithouse rat.
Releasing those “diaries” (which were actually just notes taken on a work computer) helped Paul’s case. Today’s revelation was that publicly Fauci was declaring a 1-3% mortality rate, and at the same time in private he said the number was 1/10 of that.
The arrogance to write such things on a work computer assuming they’d never see the light of day is… not surprising. A bit disappointing, but in line with my prior assessment with his character.
He’s desperately seeking public adulation, wanting to be a Jonas Salk.
I wondered where this “diary” information came from.
That hasn’t been well reported.
It’s worth remembering that like Obama, he is still worshipped by every Democrat.
He’s the perfect hero for them.
Despite being pardoned for literally everything, how did Fauci respond to Rand Paul’s question? He pled the 5th. Predictably.
He’s lied so much in the past that he can’t remember the truth and doesn’t want to catch a “lying to congress” charge.
Of course, there’s the petulence factor too.
Dude has been caught lying so many times in the past without so much as a slap on the wrist. Trump DOJ has basically failed at every political prosecution it’s carried out. If it wasn’t the machinations of the DOJ’s careerists themselves it was just straight up incompetence from Trump or a combination thereof. The careerists refusing to make cases and him turning to political cronies to get shit done and allowing judges to strike anything down.
I’m sure his lawyer did say to do this. And the little gnome relishes doing it.
I barely even care. It’s the people who continue to support the idea of government as it’s currently constructed.
That’s the part that allows them to keep doing it and getting away with it. They have roughly half the country who will support them at all times so there is no real accountability.
And I have no problem seeing politicians of any stripe to include the MAGA’ists end up in prison. The lawfare that only goes one way is what’s really so fucking tiresome.
There’s so many nonsensical rules and laws and none of the shit people actually care about gets enforced.
So, CWAA?
Just trying to stay hip to the kid’s acronyms.
Schertler said Paul has had “an intense and seemingly pathological course of retribution, revenge, and obsession with Dr. Fauci,” which has ultimately led to Fauci and his family facing threats and harassment.
“Dr. Fauci devoted his lengthy career to saving millions of lives globally through scientific discovery and sound public health policy,” Schertler said in the statement. “The accusations that Chairman Paul continues to propagate are false and disgraceful, and we will examine all options to hold him accountable.”
Yes, sue Paul for defamation. That should be interesting.
I burns me up when I see “he was doing the best he could on a novel virus with limited information.”
If that was true, the recommendations would have changed as more was learned.
We had the information we needed from boats; the Theodore Roosevelt and a few cruise ships. The virus did not, in fact, spread like wildfire and kill half the passengers in a matter of days, but they pretended that was the threat.
As I have said many times, if the models had been wrong by accident they would have been adjusted.
The diaries back this up. As new information came in, he privately acknowledged it, but publicly stuck to his existing policies. Things like death rate, the vaccines not preventing transmission, vaccine injuries, were things he knew about but actively suppressed in public. He ruined people’s careers and got people killed with his lies.
Are they predawn perp walking Fauci yet?
“Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents discovered stolen Civil War-era cannonballs in checked luggage at an Alabama airport on July 18, according to a TSA announcement….
The officials discovered five small inert Civil War-era cannonballs wrapped in paper towels. Dupree described the largest as being about the size of a grapefruit and weighing about as much as a shotput. Three of the smaller ones were a little larger than an inch in size, Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh told KLFY. None contained explosive material….
Cash agreed that he had never seen anything like it and added that because the cannonballs were “artillery munitions,” they were considered prohibited items.
Police investigating the incident say a juvenile stole the cannonballs from a storage area in Fort Morgan, a historical site on Mobile Bay where several Civil War battles occurred, according to USA Today. Fort Morgan personnel identified the cannonballs, which bore the paint markings that the historical site applies to artifacts.”

My opinion is that there should be nothing against carrying solid cannonballs on planes.
But in this case they should go to prison for theft.
As opposed to liquid cannonballs?
As opposed to hollow shells filled with explosive, which were also spherical in that time frame.
The stealing bit aside, remember kids, you cannot carry inert pieces of metal that pose 0 danger to the safe operation of the plane or to your fellow passengers (the whole purpose of our federalized agency, right? RIGHT?) because of… well reasons.
True story: USPSA range officials have had their magazine gauges confiscated because they are “tool” which might (somehow) be used to sabotage a plane from inside the passenger cabin.
🤦♂️
Perhaps another one of those adaptations that’s advantageous from an evolutionary perspective, totemic thinking/relationships, that doesn’t scale well.
My watch has a Leatherman Tread for a band. I always pack it, never wear it, if I must travel on a plane.
This last visit to Rangers Stadium for a game, not one, but two pretend security anuses wanted to closely examine my KeySmart key holder to make sure I didn’t have a weapon of mass destruction on it.
I once had a TSA dingleberry try to confiscate my shot timer because ‘a timing device could be part of a bomb.’
Yes, I was wearing a wristwatch at the time.
Fortunately (and somewhat surprisingly), her shift supervisor told her to fuck off with that.
And I thought it was stupid when they confiscated 2 empty 9mm mags that I had forgotten in a side pocket of a gym bag once.
They said if I wasn’t an active duty Marine I could have been in trouble, I still can’t wrap my head around getting in trouble for having empty magazines.
You don’t hate the TSA enough.
I hate them plenty.

It’s nice to know that the US government isn’t exclusively dysfunctional.
>em>Prior to the February Lower House election, the LDP pledged to accelerate consideration of temporarily reducing the consumption tax on food items to zero. The move is being positioned as a stopgap measure until a new benefit system for low- and middle-income households is introduced in 2029.
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/07/29/japan/politics/takaichi-food-tax-debate/
Japan is not happy. They’ve well controlled wage inflation, but food inflation is off the charts. The population is not happy to say the least. The hit to their pockets has been substantial.
It’s the same here.
Japan’s problems are almost entirely tied to government policy inspired by some of the worst economists of the West who told them to be deathly afraid of demographic collapse.
I argued about a month or so ago on here that for the average person, population decline is by far a net benefit. The wealthy are the ones who lose out.
Japan can’t even claim to be concerned about national defense because we take care of that for them.
When the lights go out and don’t come on everyone will understand what population collapse means.
The black death killed off anywhere from 30-60% of the European population. That is collapse.
A massive population for the geographical area it occupies such as Japan’s declining by fractions of a percent at a time isn’t going to see the lights turned off.
And even in Europe, there were benefits to those who survived when the recovery began. It coincided with a pretty sizable increasing in living standards for the remaining peope.
So I don’t know if you were attacking what I said. It could definitely be read that way, but there’s few problems Japan will face at the abstract level of a country from their decline that won’t benefit working class people.
I mean, if you are looking for endless growth or feeding a welfare system we are talking about some issues. If we are talking about wages and costs and the economics of everyday life, the average Japanese would benefit.
And we have seen that with employee pay and security.
Anything you say can and will be used against you
Democrats are worried that widely circulated comments from a Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) leader outlining the group’s priorities could become Republican attack fodder as the midterm elections draw closer.
The unease from moderate Democrats intensified after Megan Romer, DSA co-chair, was asked a lightning round of questions on Sunday during a Fox News interview about the organization’s platform, answering true to several proposals, including abolishing the Senate and — as a long-term goal — prisons.
The moment has also circulated widely online and has been played up on other cable news networks.
Democrats say the interview could not have come at a worse time.
They fear Republicans will seize on Romer’s comments in campaign ads, much as President Trump’s 2024 campaign repeatedly highlighted then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s past support for taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for prisoners.
For mercy’s sake don’t tell them what you really believe.
It’s cheating to tell people what the Democrats believe in their own words. It makes people not like them. So it is prejudicial.
LOL it’s fun watching a political party collapse in real time. Could not happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
I am not as confident in voters as you are.

The link header is great. “Thirty years of prison sex? Damn, those judges are really getting tough now…”
Fox News’s Shannon Bream asked Romer a string of rapid-fire, true or false questions — including whether the DSA platform includes “abolishing the Senate,” to which Romer replied, “True.”
“Replace the presidency and Supreme Court as we now know them?” Bream asked on Sunday.
“Yep,” Romer replied.
Romer then proceeded to say a DSA government would “absolutely” abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. When asked if a DSA government would abolish borders and give amnesty to anyone who is in the U.S. illegally, Romer replied, “As a long-term plan, yep.”
Romer also said the DSA platform would “absolutely” defund the Pentagon and would also abolish prisons “as part of a long-term program.”
Republicans quickly highlighted the interview.
“One man, one vote, one time”?
They would be suicidally negligent not to pounce on the stated platform of the crowd who is rapidly taking over the opposition party.
Not the place where I expected pushback to DEI.
K-pop juggernaut BTS announced Wednesday that it will not submit its music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, set for February, in a move widely interpreted as a protest against the Recording Academy’s new Asian pop category.
“We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year,” the group said in a statement shared through the Instagram Stories of all seven members. “We hope music can be heard and loved as music itself, rather than being divided by region or language.”

Is K-slop really music anyway?
lol The bit I heard during the World Cup Grand Final before a leapt for the remote was heinous but good on them for calling out BS when they see it.
Democratic strategist Hyma Moore warned that the interview is “going to hurt DSA candidates first, but it will weigh down on Democrats writ large.”
“They’re talking about burning the whole thing down and that’s not where people are,” Moore said. “They don’t want to burn the whole thing down.”
You mean they might not like what happens next?
