Windy.

Back to the weekly grind. Creating the links isn’t much of a bother, so I do not count it. Don’t let it go to your heads…

  • I think they went extinct, rather than live near/in Jersey.
  • Ha! I remember covering the initial flop off this – no guns, no freedom, folks.
  • Wait…wut?
  • “temporary state administration

You all will have to do the music.

Comments are open and yours.

A massive tooth from a prehistoric megalodon — the largest shark to ever live, popularized in horror movie lore — was discovered along the Jersey Shore by a vacationing father-son duo from Pennsylvania.

More like the JAWS-y Shore, amirite?

I’ve watched a few Clint Eastwood movies on Roku lately and all the narrow gazes remind me of our dear friend Swiss.

Sea Isle City is not one of the dicey Jersey shore towns. Multi million dollar bungalows. A hundred years ago, my g-father and his brothers inherited a beach front lot there. Story is they quickly sold it because ” no one was ever going to build in Sea Isle.”

      Also “Red Sharks” music.

And appropriate for our DSA saturated moment in time.

“Firefighters in Virginia said a fire that damaged eight classrooms at a middle school was sparked when an escaped python knocked over a heat lamp. … The department said on social media that firefighters entered a classroom and “were greeted by an 8-foot python.”

I suppose that happens. Three-hr drive from Abingdon, where Dad grew up. Site links to odd happenstances:
    * Escaped tortoise found after 2 weeks, over 12 miles from home — Exciting chase, that. Beat ’em by a hare.
    * D.C. bomb squad identifies suspicious device as adult toy — Was it green?
    * Blindfolded man assembles Mr. Potato Head in 7.92 seconds — You assemble that shit?

    • EvilSheldon

A police report identified the device as an “electronic sex portable pump device.”

That is some truly excellent grammar.

Fortunately the snake (a banana morph Ball Python, and probably not eight feet long) seems to be okay. Sadly they lost a tortoise.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Nestlé decided not to cease its operations in Russia entirely. At the time, the group justified this by stating that, as a food manufacturer, it wished to continue supplying the population with basic foodstuffs even in conflict regions.

Wasn’t one of the gangs in West Side Story “the Sharks”?

    They probably have a song.

The Jets did, but I don’t remember one for the Sharks. Totes racist!

Last week our gym was without power for a few days. We still had members calling and texting to see if we were open, so much that Mrs. TOK put out a passive aggressive social media post explaining that NO, we will not be open without power. Our most smart-ass member commented, “So is the gym open?” And to that I responded, “Only to Platinum Members.”

Thursday night the power came back on, and we got everything back in order by Friday afternoon. Then over the weekend nobody who contacted us worked out (of course). Today that smart-ass member wrote “Ask about Platinum Memberships” on the wall in chalk. And people are asking about it. I told Mrs. TOK we just solved all our financial problems.

I’m glad to hear your gym is back open. I recommend Glibs passing through the area drop in for a day pass.

How much for a platinum day pass?

      • The Last American Hero

        20 dollars, same as downtown

    no guns, no freedom, folks.

They’ll threaten to hold their breath ’til they turn blue.

I spent a month or two in Catalunya – specifically Tarragona. Fascinating place, and region.

I wish them well in their quixotic journey.

It’s kinda humid outside (for here).

I cut the grass for the last time (I think). Not growing much, days are noticeably shorter and mornings are cooler.

Just spent some hours wandering around NJ and NYC, taking care of business.

Swamp ass. Dew point is 72. I forgot how much (more) the weather sucks down here.

“Abdul El-Sayed’s Mother Linked to $1.375 Million Secret Iraq Funding Scheme — Abdul El-Sayed’s mother helped process tens of thousands in overseas transfers for an Islamic charity later convicted of secretly funneling $1.375 MILLION into Saddam-era Iraq … The charity was IARA-USA—the American office of the Sudan-based ISRA network. In 2004, Treasury blacklisted the global network, alleging that its officials supported Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda, Hamas and the Taliban.

[El-Sayed’s mother’s] link was not a one-time event or loose association. A contemporary report says she worked for IARA-USA beginning in 1999. A newly uncovered federal filing puts her name on transfer paperwork and correspondence involving the charity’s Iraq operations.”

Duh. Osama’s smiling at how *easy* it is to dupe Americans. I, we, don’t deserve it, but fuck. America has it comin’.

    • rhywun

With an all-American name like that? Unpossible.

Locals have also complained about what they described as inadequate engagement with community groups. Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R) was among those who have called on federal officials to hear from concerned citizens.

    Community groups.

Who does Putin think he is, Trump?

Nothing more educrat meddling can’t fix

The Accounting STEM Pursuit Act would add accounting education, including career awareness, to the allowable uses of existing Student Support and Academic Enrichment grants under the Every Student Succeeds Act, with an emphasis on students from groups underrepresented in accounting careers. This would give school districts explicit federal authorization to fund accounting curricula, internships and mentorship programs alongside the STEM subjects that already qualify for these grants.

Too bad the accounting firms can’t just teach everybody in HR to add and subtract.

    • rhywun

Why should accounting firms pay to train new recruits when they can make me pay to train them?

      *anger rising*

    • Grumbletarian

GLWT, given that more and more high school graduates going to sit in college math courses can’t even manage fractions.

TOO LOCAL NEWS: NH State government files a brief in a school funding case asking the NH Supreme Court to overturn the Claremont decisions

Argument 1: Overturn Claremont and Eliminate the State Funding Obligation

The State’s broadest argument is that both Claremont rulings were wrongly decided.

For more than 30 years, the Claremont decisions have established that the New Hampshire Constitution guarantees every child the opportunity for an adequate public education and places responsibility on the State to fund it. The State now argues that this framework has no sufficient basis in the text or history of the Constitution.

That would not make the costs of education disappear. Schools would still have to meet State requirements and provide teachers, transportation, facilities, technology, special education services, and other basic resources. What would change is who can be held constitutionally accountable for making sure those costs are funded.

This would also mean reversing precedent the NH Supreme Court reaffirmed as recently as July 2025. In ConVal, the Court noted that it had “time and again” reaffirmed the basic Claremont obligation.

In the Claremont case, the NH Supreme Court decided that “to cherish the interest of literature and the sciences, and all seminaries and public schools” means the state has to fund public schools.

Camped off mountain lake. Hardly anyone fishing, the water was infested by kayaks and SUPs. 40F water and almost none of the SUPers had lifevests on. Black bikinis seems to be the uniform of choice and surprisingly no visible ink.
