Saturday Morning Batshit Crazy Links

by | Aug 15, 2026 | Daily Links | 107 comments

I heard a noise behind the blinds on my kitchen window. Lifting them, I found this fella hanging upside down. I snapped a photo and sent it to Prime, who immediately responded, “Pie is back!” I ended up capturing him and releasing him into my back yard. Yes, I have assumed his gender.

And speaking of gender, there’s birthdays today, including some short dude; a guy whose name has become synonymous with mediocre baseball; a (((woman))) who will be canceled any day now; a guy who only really had one idea, but it was a really great idea; my goddess; perhaps my favorite actress; a guy who could almost pull off being a clown; one of the reasons I could never be a movement conservative; a guy with fast fingers; a guy who did shockingly original research; a piece of shit in a black dress; a piece of shit in a James Brown wig; and a woman who popularized asshole bleaching.

Speaking of assholes, here’s Links.

Team Blue will favor this so they can get two more Muslim senators.

Think Trump is as retarded as it can get? Hold my beer.

Does this mean they won’t fund public circumcision stations, either?

“Well, after all, we used to have Jews-only showers.”

I wish there were a comments section. I can only imagine…

When everything is racism, nothing is rac… wait… OK, it’s racism.

Can I hate everybody in this story?

How about this story? OK to hate everybody?

Boo-fucking-hoo.

Russia, Russia, Russia.

TBH, I didn’t even know that Peggy Noonan was still alive.

Wait, we’re naming hurricanes after Teletubbies???

I refuse to be embarrassed by my absolute love for this goofy and wonderful band. Humans making music, not AI.

As a pre-Score I eliminated many of those mosquito-a-teers, with a tennis racket. They’d wake me up at night, flying around in my bedroom. It usually took a few swats but eventually I’d take them down. The first time (like sex) I was scared to death but soon (like sex) I overcame that fear and it was more routine.

    • DrOtto

And that they’re rats with wings.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

No they are not! They eat a ton of insects including bloodsuckers that would dine on you.

Yeah, she may be a keeper. 😄

      • Old Man With Candy

Almost two years. Yeah, this one may stick. Though I note that at my age, “long term relationship” has a rather different meaning.

Think Trump is as retarded as it can get? Hold my beer.

I hope she runs, and wins.

The only way a large segment of America is going to recover from its recent infatuation with communism is to get it, good and hard.

        I’m down for the latter.

“Slow at first, then all of a sudden”

    • PutridMeat

Unfortunately, it’s not just that “large segment of America” that gets it good and hard. Along with Jar’s “voting your way in…” and the implied associated method of extraction. I’d really rather not go there, though it may be inevitable in the longer run.

Think Trump is as retarded as it can get?

Well, the airport foot-washing station is more retarded than Trump.

    • DrOtto

The problem is, now I have to deal with this shit in the regular bathroom. What the fuck is with these guys?

      • Chafed

Wait, what? What exactly is going on?

      • Threedoor

Muslims should not be allowed to fly.

  6. R C Dean

Since Trump’s second inauguration, in January 2025, The Scroll has spent a lot of time tracking the rise of what the writer James Lindsay has dubbed the “woke Right” (and what others have described using more vulgar terminology). Over the past eight months or so, we’ve become increasingly focused on this faction’s de facto alignment with the Russian state and intelligence services.

And people are complaining about Harry Potter fans not being able to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

    • rhywun

I saw cries of “Christian nationalism” and noped right out of that nonsense.

Anyone else read the whole thing? Was there a point to it?

Stoppered him in an empty bottle of gin.

    • Evan from Evansville

Was my first thought as well.

    • RAHeinlein

I have a rule of three for obscure knowledge – this is the THIRD time I have heard Mendoza or Menodoza line mentioned in the last two weeks. As for myself, I possess this knowledge thanks to Beverly Hills 90210…

    • Michael Malaise

Mendoza was sub-mediocre. Great glove, I’m sure.

  16. Aloysious

Also: I was listening to Rachmaninov: The Isle of the Dead until I saw the video for those weirdos. They aren’t normally my thing, but they make me stop and listen every time. The voices in my head say they’re a mash-up between GWAR and Béla Fleck.

Speaking of crazy, I have been watching auctions from Monterrey. Fools and their money, eh? $200,000 for a 1971 Mercedes 280 convertible? It was a really nice car, but come on. Lots of Porsches. I didn’t know they made that many.

A bunch of cool stuff. My favorite was the beautiful ’46 Delahaye which went for the very reasonable price of $325.000 or so. I am pretending some 28 year old rocket scientist will be cruising around Austin in it. Driving it to the grocery store and whatnot. When they fired it up to drive it off the stage it blew a little cloud of blue smoke.

    • Chafed

The buyer won’t be driving it in California. Ask Jay Leno how our crazy anti pollution laws make it impossible for vintage cars.

Oh, you said “Singer”. Not the same as downtown?

    • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

      Because people karaoke the song?

  19. The Late P Brooks

The buyer won’t be driving it in California. Ask Jay Leno how our crazy anti pollution laws make it impossible for vintage cars.

The auctioneers have a little recitation: “Due to California emissions laws this vehicle should only be purchased by a dealer or an out of state buyer.”

  20. Shpip

Well, all good things must come to an end, and that includes GlibsCruise 2.0. We spent yesterday taking in the sights and a local delicacy in Reykjavik, then departed bright and early for the flight home. Pro tip: give extra time when flying out of Keflavik. Icelanders are lovely people, but they have a lot to learn about moving large amounts of people around in an efficient manner.

Currently typing this from seven miles above Newfoundland on our way to the Dulles airport on earth. With any luck, I’ll be home in time to catch a few of y’all on the Zooms.

A few articles and anecdotes will follow, if I can get up off my metaphorical arse and write them.

    • Evan from Evansville

Will be eagerly ready and appreciated!

Jealous, am I, frankly. In a good way! (Inspired?)

  21. The Late P Brooks

Palms read, fortunes told- five cents

A new analysis by Berkeley Earth climate scientist Zeke Hausfather, shared with The Washington Post, found a 95% chance that the combined impact of this “super” El Niño and human-driven warming will make 2027 the hottest year on record. He reportedly estimates that the global temperature could range from 3 degrees Fahrenheit (1.67 degrees Celsius) to 3.33 degrees F (1.85 degrees C) above the preindustrial average next year.

At the upper end of this range, 2027’s global temperature could resemble levels the planet might not otherwise reach until around 2040—temporarily fast-forwarding the current warming trend by about 13 years, according to The Washington Post. At the lower end, we’d see temperatures resembling what’s expected by the mid-2030s.

The seas will rise, the forests will burn. People will spontaneously be turned to ash.

    Repent, sinners! REPENT, I say!

    • rhywun

      human-driven warming

He asserted, with no evidence whatsoever.

    • whiz

The doomsters never mention the positive effects of higher temps (however they are caused): a number of analyses have shown that an extra degree of warmth causes 10 times fewer deaths due to cold than more deaths due to heat.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

THERE ARE NO POSITIVE EFFECTS, DENIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Threedoor

Just like 2026 has been mild.

      It only hit 101 here.

We usually have a solid week or two above 100-105.

“The words were delivered slowly, deliberately and with some steeliness by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”

Gee, who else said that they were going to “fundamentally change this country” ?

    • rhywun

That asshole Obama, and that is exactly what he did.

    • (((Jarflax

Ok, slow I believe but steely and deliberate are not AOC traits.

      • rhywun

As recently as a couple decades ago any potential opponent could just point out that she is a communist and we would be rid of her.

  24. The Late P Brooks

To be clear, the global average temperature observed in 2027 likely won’t persist beyond that year. El Niño will subside and so will its heating effect. Hausfather told The Washington Post he expects 2028 to be cooler but added that “human emissions are adding a permanent El Niño worth of heat to the climate system each decade.”

Even though El Niño’s direct influence over Earth’s climate is temporary, long-term climate records show that these events can have a lasting impact on global temperature rise. That’s because they are occurring against the backdrop of climate change.

    We’re DOOOOOOMED.

    • rhywun

a permanent El Niño worth of heat

How many giraffes of heat is that?

      • Tres Cool

Its certainly been August hot in July. And this is absolutely the wettest August I can remember- my grass is still green.

        Should I be afraid?

  25. dbleagle

WTF is it with the MSM? We ARE a state you know and not some flyspeck in the far southern Pacific. Hawaii (Big Island) is about to get hit with its first hurricane? Do better MSM. Hawaii gets hit every year with one or more hurricanes. That is why Hawaii is there according to the rest of the state. Those two big (almost 14K feet) volcanos don’t move for some puny atmospheric action and they deflect the storms north or south while robbing them of energy.

The latest forecast from NOAA is that I have a 40-50% chance at seeing overnight tropical storm force (sustained 34kt /39mph) winds and 6-8 inches of rain. I am gonna guess that the sail race for tomorrow is CX.

    • Tres Cool

      I thought you got typhoons.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

Just call them tropical cyclones and you’ll be correct.

      • dbleagle

Typhoons are the other side of the international date line. Same type of storm, different name.

      • UnCivilServant

Thanks to an autocorrect issue you are about to be hit by a storm of Tycoons.

And the WordPress issues continue as Mexi’s “beer review” “Missed schedule.”

    *stunned disbelief*

  30. cyto

Great post, citing “made by humans, not AI” for the most AI sounding human-made music to date.

  31. The Late P Brooks

    Unforeseeable

“A software-defined vehicle is really a vehicle which is no longer stale in time. It’s a vehicle which continues to improve over time through over-the-air updates,” said Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid. “What we like to say at Rivian is that the least capable Rivian you will ever get from us is on the day of your purchase, and then it will keep improving and getting better and better over time.”

The rise of these tech-heavy vehicles poses implications for the entire automotive world. A vehicle costs, on average, nearly $50,000 in the U.S. — a far bigger investment than a smartphone — but as they age some features could become unavailable because of obsolete hardware or discontinued product support. Ever-changing and often proprietary technologies raise questions about the long-term repairability of a vehicle.

“We honestly don’t know how long these vehicles will last,” said Sam Fiorani, senior vice president of vehicle forecasting for AutoForecastSolutions. “We’re already seeing problems with hardware not being able to deal with new software.”

This is what the customer wants!

    • Threedoor

      I’ve said it before.
I want standalone systems in cars.

      No computers for the lights.
      Relays and switches.

Infotainment that is not integrated into the rest of the vehicle.

A turn signal unit that clicks because it’s a heater and not played through the stereo.

      Wing windows.

      Simple things.
      Cheep things.
