“Trump Outlines Strategies Against Iran, Says US Controls Iran’s Money”
Really?
“It’s a fantastic strategy, a great strategy, there’s nothing else like it. It’s the best strategy ever devised, everyone says so.”
Trump has concocted a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
Trump outlines plan to make sure nobody uses our banks ever.
What’s the point of having power if you don’t abuse it?
Trump to Iran: “Stop resisting”!!!
Is this yet another victory? Have we hit the magic number yet?
Gotta wait for 42 to come up.
I have given this guy the benefit of the doubt but OMG I am so tired of this.
What a stupid strategy. He really is the King of the Retards.
“”The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts commends the court for upholding one of our most sacred constitutional rights: the right to vote,” a representative for the organization wrote in a statement shared with Fox News Digital. “We are pleased to see this ruling and are committed to remaining in the fight to protect voting rights – not just for the Bay Staters who rely on mail voting, but for every American who utilizes this safe, secure, and trusted tool.””
CWABOC
I am entirely unclear on how tracking and creating an audit trail for mail in ballots is a denial of the right to vote.
We have a serious governance problem in this country – judicial tyranny – and nobody has even surfaced a proposal to deal with it. Hell, nobody (who matters) has even publicly identified it as a problem.
Andrew Jackson had the answer to judicial tyranny. They have no enforcement power other than their veneer of being perceived as legitimate.
Because proposing the obvious solution gets you a visit from the feds.
Oh it’s been identified as a problem – to their grasp on total control if we change course, of course.
That is because everybody who matters finds judicial tyranny useful.
Hell, I find it useful when the judicial tyranny goes my way…
ES is right. Oregon has been prevented from enacting a rather shitty gun law due to one judge’s “tyranny.”
The real problem is that there are two competing concepts of how the US should govern itself, and the one that requires a heavy handed bureaucracy, a la Europe, that we have lived under since WWII is under immense pressure from a more laissez-faire concept, which is strongly supported by how our government was designed to run. But, this puts an equal pressure on the Ancien Régime players to stop it in any way possible.
Would you prefer the four boxes response or the impeach/woodchipper response?
Voting is a privilege.
Another offshoot of the DNC agrees with policy entirely meant to pump up the numbers for the DNC.
I am shocked.
I will only accept their statement if they were wearing ankle-length dresses and holding placards.
“The Trump administration will no longer fund gender transition surgeries using Medicaid for minors, President Donald Trump said Tuesday, calling such procedures “barbaric.”
In a Truth Social post, Trump said he ordered Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to stop using the joint federal and state public health insurance program to fund such procedures.”
I thought they did that already, and states ignored it?
Maybe the states ignoring it is why they are now cutting off federal funding?
Of course no one is going to question whether Medicaid actually covered this – since it does not cover every medical procedure known to man.
There was a great deal of fraud around transing minors – it was being coded as something else. Whether that was just to hide it while they were lying about never doing it, or it was the only way to get paid, I don’t know.
As long as the doctors get paid, and the police officers go home, everything is OK…
WEBSITE NEWS: The Problem continues, unremedied. We think it’s a back-end (no snickering) problem, and WebDom is engaging the hosting service. Currently, editors and admins are having trouble getting posts to publish, and previously-scheduled posts just sit there and kick out a “missed schedule” error.
PAGING SLUMBREW: In possibly unrelated news — “So… I notice when I get the captcha, there’s that little bit about exceeding the free quota. Why do I have a feeling that the Monocle polling may be pinging the servers enough to trigger bot checks.” -Some Glib
Tanks for update Tonio
BTW, we’re snickering not because you used the word “back-end”, but because of the size of your back-end.
Slumbrew did a Monocle release late yesterday intended to reduce that.
I will say that I am getting tagged several times a day now just using FireFox in IOS, with absolutely no add ons at all.
I got tagged for a captcha twice today from the office. I did have to log back in between the two because my authentication session expired.
Several bot checks and kicked off this morning iPhone safari no addons.
You are doing the Bear God’s handwork, Tonio!
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammerfb/images/f/fa/Ursun.png/revision/latest?cb=20160323173824
That’s possible, Tonio.
Repost of last nights dev release annoucement:
Monocle update:
Dev has been updated to v4.16.4:
Various things to reduce Hostinger (not Cloudflare – my bad) from tagging Monocle users as bots:
– Start at 10s polling period vs. 5s
– Add jitter to poll intervals
– Pause polling if tab is not visible
– Add optional feature to just indicate new comments with ‘(+)’ and stop further polling
– use fetch() instead of XHR
– drop cache-busting _ param
I’ll run on my various devices for a bit before promoting to master.
If you want to run dev:
https://gitlab.com/glibertarians/forumProject/-/raw/master/monocle.user.js
I’ve done some (light) testing on all the devices I have:
https://gitlab.com/glibertarians/forumProject/#browser-compatibility
The ‘Low impact: stop on new’ version of ‘Refresh Comment Count’ works as advertised on all of them – it just indicates new comments with ‘(+)’ and stops polling.
I’ll promote this to master shortly.
If it seems to help, I can make that low-impact version the default / only method.
v4.16.4 published to master – if you don’t auto-update:
https://gitlab.com/glibertarians/forumProject/-/raw/master/monocle.user.js
Not that it’s an option here, but on my personal site I removed WordPress entirely and hand coded all the pages in HTML. It’s working wonderfully.
The enshittification of the world continues. Nothing is safe.
Thanks Tonio and all the other Glibs working on this.
Francesca Hong loses to David Crowley in Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary
There still time to find votes in trunks, closets, …
Her opponent won by less than 1%. I would expect at least a recount if not waiting until more “votes” roll in.
She’ll have to pay unless the recount changes the results.
Rhy, the winner is the head of the Milwaukee County gubbermint….if anything is “found” it would be in his favor (plus, the current Gubbernor endorsed him).
Twice now the pollsters push the DSA candidate by claiming a massive lead that did not exist.
The lesson continues to be – you cannot trust polls.
Did the lead not exist, or were ballots manufactured by the Dem establishment that controls the election machinery to ensure their preferred candidate won?
🤷♂️
Depends which Glib theory regarding the margin of fraud you subscribe to.
Yes?
I’m not so sure that Hong wasn’t the preferred candidate of the Democrat establishment.
The complaints that I hear from the Dems about DSA candidates have mostly been about ‘electability’ rather than ‘this person is a circus sideshow freak who needs to be institutionalized for their own safety.’
Once again, ES is right. The concept of Collectivism is strong on the left, and they will push for it at every chance. Now, whether it is the soft collectivism of Bill Clinton, or the hard, Bernie Sanders version depends on what the establishment is seeing: electability chances.
I also noticed that Dem’s complaints weren’t that socialism/communism is a shitshow, but that they’ll have a hard time getting elected.
Somebody’s pissed off
Bastards took my pee drawer away!
Moral of the story? Don’t trust avocados.
BTW: I have 33 boxes of zinc-plated steel-cased ammo total.
So you were asking $165?
Correct.
Sounds good. I’ll see you saturday assuming nothing goes wrong.
NPR has been telling me for weeks that Hong was going to win, that her momentum was unstoppable, that she was on fleek, brat, even 6-7.
The Left’s answer to Rogan is claiming shenanigans. I am sure his fawning media talking heads will call out his election interference claims any minute now.
He asserted without evidence….
There are no election shenanigans among fellow Democrats.
“Selina Wang, the study’s lead author and a professor of cooperative extension in the UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology, said that the problem may originate deep in the supply chain from third-party suppliers.
“When companies rely on a certificate of analysis from their oil supplier rather than independently verifying every batch they receive, they’re at risk of putting something that isn’t 100% authentic into their products,” Wang told the Daily Caller.”
https://www.asian-sirens.net/wp/forum/topic/selina-wang/
I’d put in something 100% authentic.
Asian Fap Box….lol, the internet was humanities greatest and worst invention
Standing on the camera box to get enough height over the railing is just too perfect.
“There’s a reason Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t mentioning her fiancé Riley Roberts when she talks about freezing her eggs … TMZ has confirmed they broke up.
AOC and Riley actually split roughly two years ago, and called off their engagement, according to Puck’s Chief Washington Correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell … who was first to report the couple’s demise.”
https://www.tmz.com/2026/08/11/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-riley-roberts-break-up/
Gotta say, the current burst of pub that AOC is getting for this has really brought home that she is starting to age out of the “would” zone.
And anybody who thinks she is going to carry a baby to term with those eggs is sadly mistaken. Assuming it isn’t just a pure publicity stunt (the way to bet), if there ever is a baby it will be carried by a surrogate.
So everyone that wanted to date her now has a chance?
She plans to run for president, and therefore can’t be in a relationship with a white guy. That loses too many woke points.
Ding ding ding
Come on, it isn’t like the guy is Jewish!
That didn’t stop Kamala. However, her was a Ginger, and that is verboten.
So it was actually two years ago…
“The Los Angeles chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is throwing a Y2K-themed prom Friday night, and the glittery affair isn’t just about reliving the days of low-rise jeans and Lil Jon.
It’s a fundraiser for the chapter’s political operation….
Admission is pay-what-you-can, with community listings recommending a $15 starting tier and higher tiers reaching $40 and beyond.”

How many of them were even alive for Y2K?
🤢
Democratic socialists need a prom king and queen?
Prom Commissar and Zampolit.
No Kings! Just queens.
Yaassss!
Y2K, a overblown event, might be the wrong thing to tie yourself to.
This. Alsotoo, prom might not be a good look for socialists.
It’s cos-play all the way down.

🤔
I’m on track to retire in 2038.
Admittedly a few months after UNIX dies from the time rot, but I’d have enough tenure that my supervisor at the time would likely just let me coast rather than go through the trouble of firing me when my internal chronometer stops working.
You sure? It seems like they could take that playbook for the climate crisis.
“Look! It’s fixed now!”
I don’t know about overblown. I worked for a hospital at the time. We had feeds from over 100 lab systems and also our own internal systems. When doing a trial run in ’98, all of them failed. Every. Single. One. About two years later, Dec 31 1999, we were all required to be on site at midnight. Nothing happened. Why? Because we spent two years patching, updating or retiring everything.
So, to outsiders who weren’t aware of the literally millions of man-hours spent, it did seem like a bunch of todo about nothing.
When IT does their job well, nobody notices. When mistakes are made, everybody notices.
That Guy (Tulpa!) is right – Y2K was a nothing-burger in part because we really did fix a ton of shit in the lead-up to it.
Y2038 will be interesting due to the hugely increased number of embedded systems since Y2K.
When IT does their job well, nobody notices. When mistakes are made, everybody notices.
100% correct.
Our internal contacts site has an optional ‘Function’ field – I put ‘plumber’; nobody thinks about what I do unless it goes horribly wrong, just like your plumbing.
How many of those embedded systems are 32-bit systems that will read end of life before 2038?
Ted – I think you underestimate how long embedded systems are left in place, out of sight, out of mind until they break.
“Do you hate capitalism but love to dress up?”
Actual footage of the event. Very Nice.
“Callingbull, a Plains Cree woman from the Enoch Cree Nation, admitted that she was shocked when she saw the costumes.
“This cannot be real. I just couldn’t get over that this was happening,” she told the outlet. “Who allowed this on stage? Who approved this?
“Anything traditional or sacred should not be allowed. I was very, very upset.”’
https://nypost.com/2026/08/12/world-news/miss-universe-canada-contestants-in-indigenous-costumes-slammed-for-cultural-appropriation/
Callingbull?
Just point and laugh at 🐄💩 here when she gets upset.
Let me take a page from the anti-Confederates here: You lost. Get over it.
Moo?
Not allowing Indian costumes: Erasing their culture.
Allowing Indian costumes: Cultural appropriation.
Cultural appropriation is not a thing.
Retarded monkeys that cannot tell the difference between homage and mockery, so they decide all emulation is mockery.
Agreed. That wore out quickly and people who still try to use it are lame.
No, cultural appropriation is a *good* thing.
No, cultural appropriation is a *good* thing.
True. Cultures interacting with and learning from each other is a very good thing.
Indian tacos are freaking awesome. I hadn’t had once since high school until I went to Lake Tenkiller to scatter my father ashes. Not sure how many levels of appropriation are going on with those, but it produced a delight.
I was going to ask “What kind of Indian?”
Now I’m envisioning tacos filled with a mix of subcontinental food and bison meat.
🤔
I have bison meat in the freezer, now I’m tempted to make Indian/Indian Tacos.
Well, naan isn’t really like frybread but you could definitely make a tasty topped round soft wheat-flour food out of dot ingredients.
No, Not Naan. Niet, Non, Nein.
Okay I went overboard because of alliteration. I was thinking of going full on abomination by using egg wraps.
They identify as Indian. Who are you to gatekeep?
A proper response to these types would violate our family-friendly status.
“I call bull” was what we would say when told an obvious lie back in HS.
My culture is not a costume!
Who cares.
Sherrill, a Democrat who took office after the period in question, blamed the vendor and her predecessor’s administration. She ordered the names removed, promised an investigation, and fretted that these noncitizens might face federal consequences “through no fault of their own.”
But the software company, IDEMIA, pushed back hard: There was no glitch. The system recorded the “no” answers correctly and transmitted the data as the state had designed the process. Officials had citizenship information available the entire time.
So where can I see the code to see who is right? The article is an opinion piece with no analysis of the code.
They won’t release the code. It’s proprietary cheating software.
If I have to go on he said/she said about who’s lying, I’m picking the pubsec apparatchik as the liar every time.
From my own experience with government software projects – the code does exactly what the commissioning agnecy wanted it to do. They would have left the old, broken mess in place if it didn’t meet all the UAT (user Acceptance Testing) parameters.
It registered the illegals by design.
Release the code is a simple thing to do.
Yep. Find the contract and spec docs, you know they exist, and that will answer a lot of questions.
They can’t figure out how to redact it.
Code + source control history actually.
Poor DEG.
You have any idea how many projects go forward without revision control?
I know SVC is dead simple to set up and use, but they just don’t bother.
You have any idea how many projects go forward without revision control?
When I did defense contracting that was a major no-no. The Pentagon having higher standards? I guess that’s possible.
“fretted that these noncitizens might face federal consequences “through no fault of their own.””
White women and their suicidal empathy.
“No fault of their own” is doing a lot of work.
See the thing about the NJ MVS scandal is the people applying were supposed to decline at the first screen.
It’s a bit confusing and they likely aren’t native English speakers, but it’s still partly their fault.

“The information you provided today will be used to update your voter registration or register you to vote unless you decline.”
Who were those assholes all about nudging?
Voter registration must be completely decoupled from the stupid motor vehicle bureaus. There is NO reason for that connection other than to increase cheating.
Well it falls back to ‘people are too stupid to engage in civics, we shall force them instead’
Eliminate the DMV.
Problem solved.

Good for her. She needs to lose the weight for health reasons, and this will work.
South Carolina Republican primary will now be a runoff between Ralph Norman and Graham’s sister. Pathetic.
https://www.foxcarolina.com/2026/08/11/sc-senate-special-republican-primary-polls-open-7-am-tuesday/
How much of RINO is Ralph Norman?
More than Lynch (who I voted for). Obviously far less than the old or new Graham.
When I am dictating the new constitution from my throne of skulls after the revolution, one of the provisions is going to be barring spouses and relatives of elected or appointed officials from holding any elected or appointed office.
Rand Paul haz a sad.
Skulls for the Skull Throne!
Also mandatory retirement to prison for all elected officials …
dictating the new constitution
May I suggest: Article 1, Clause 1 – No one shall have immunity (absolute or qualified) for any exercise of power.
I propose “voting is not a right to be exercised merely by achieving an arbitrary age.
All naturally born citizens must have: never served in any public office, elected or otherwise; be of aged 25; and not receiving any State or Federal assistance”
Except for your wife in the event of your death, right?
I mean, with total power you have to have carve outs.
Don’t be rediculous, that would only encourage your wife to assassinate you.
“A CNN panel exploded in a heated clash Monday night after Dems accused Republicans of launching an “anti-Muslim” attack on Michigan Senate hopeful Dr. Abdul El-Sayed by running an ad campaign using his full name.
During “CNN NewsNight” with guest host Jon Berman, the panel discussed Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) defense of an ad campaign that blasts El-Sayed as a dangerous candidate and uses the controversial lefty pol’s full name, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed.
In an interview clip, the senator was asked whether the ads are an attempt to tell voters “hint, hint…he’s Muslim.” Scott responded, “Not at all … I can get called Timothy Eugene. I get called that all the time.””

Battle of the network retards.
I love how supposed “news organizations” are all about hiding information from the public.
And yet “Shrub” and “Drumpf” are virtuous to use.
Tardfight Royale!
For fuck’s sake, own it.
“Of course we’re making sure voters know he’s Muslim. Shouldn’t voters be fully informed about candidates?”
Was just thinking that. Stop pussy-footing around, the other half already hates you and weasel wording your intent isn’t going to make them date you.
Come on, RC, they just want to get the camels… er, nose under the tent wall! Nothing about him being a muscleman, no, not at all.
+1 Barack Hussein Obama
This. Neph posted a link yesterday to some guy fed up with all the pussyfooting around “trans”. I think the same applies here, and in many other topics.
But to be fair, just quoting a selection of his past statements should demonstrate that he is a radical leftist anti-American who is completely unsuitable for any elected office.
But to be fair, just quoting a selection of his past statements should demonstrate that he is a radical leftist anti-American who is completely unsuitable for any elected office.
So, he’s a shoo-in to be elected.

You aren’t supposed to use their old words against them. Those are their old bad ideas, they have new worse ideas to sell!

I never would have guessed someone named Abdul El-Sayed was muslim. I needed the middle name to sell me.

Honestly, if you were to post a pic of her as a new sexbot model, I woudn’t doubt it for a minute.
This Trump admin is like watching a Robert Palmer video.
“”The young conservative woman who went viral this week while standing next to Donald Trump in the Oval Office has responded to the rampant rumors about Monday’s event that have exploded online.
Podcaster and journalist Jayme Leagh Franklin, 26, told the Daily Mail she was invited to the White House event alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy, Jr, to overhaul decades of federal guidance on childhood vaccines.
After she arrived in the Oval Office, she was surprised when White House staff asked her to stand next to the president as he spoke….
Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to point out that several times during the announcement, as other health officials spoke, the president appeared to close his eyes and nod off.
But Franklin quickly dismissed those claims, telling the Daily Mail it may have been a camera-angle issue….
Meanwhile, other critics made comments about her placing her hand on her stomach, joking that she was concealing a button to ‘wake’ the president if he appeared to doze off, nicknaming her ‘The Zapper.’
In response Tuesday night, Franklin responded on X: ‘I’m just pregnant you weirdos.'”

I would have thought “I don’t care if reporters die” was a given.
But then I remembered who the audience would be for such a response.
U.S. residential and commercial space heating consumes twice as much energy as cooling; globally, the ratio is closer to 4 to 1. It doesn’t follow that, in a warming world, more air conditioning means more emissions overall.

Everyone knows you’re a lesbian. You can wear normal shoes now.
The “avacado” mayo in our fridge is deceptively worded, so in reading the ingredients, it has both avocado and vegetable oil in it. I look at most products like this as I do synthetic-blend motor oils. Synthetic blends only need 1% synthetic to make the claim, that’s what a lot of these food companies are doing as well. How many of the products tested diclosed the truth on the ingredients label? Read the label before you buy and you’re probably better assured you’re buying what you think you’re buying.
https://briannas.com/collections/avocado-oil-dressings
They have several that are no sugar.
My bottle of Chosen avocado oil just reads ‘100% avocado oil’ so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The paper did mention that perhaps upstream suppliers could be the culprits, but that would imply terrible to non-existent QC by Chosen.
I assume unless I purchase the raw ingredients (after checking labels on things like olive oil, etc), that what is advertised is wrong.
For instance, San Marizano STYLE tomatoes are not San Marizano tomatoes.
If San Marzano tomatoes do not carry the Italian D.O.P. certification, they are not San Marzano tomatoes.
They’re just sparkling tomatoes?
The same cultivar is grown in the U.S., Mexico, etc.
But they weren’t grown inside the magic invisible line around this one spot on the map!
Same cultivar, not the same terroir, so not the same result. Which is also why Key limes grown in Mexico do not taste like Florida Key limes.
WTF knows what’s what.
While technically the tomato is of San Marzano type, just like the ones in my garden, they are not the same.
I would bet much of anything non D.O.P certified are really Romas
UnCiv. True, but not the same as soil makeup is vastly different.
The products tested were suppose to be 100%.
Looks like we should have this whole Iran thing behind us in about 2 weeks.
Again?
I’ll go with around Jan 20, 2029.
Just 2 weeks to flatten the curve.
Two weeks to flatten the country.
/me, way more than two weeks ago
I was told tonite. Quick end to the war, just like how Ukraine/Russia dust up ended as soon as OMB strode on the scene with his magical negotiating powers.
Yeah, he was going to solve that in 24 hours until he maybe was told or realized that an occupied Russia was better for the world stage, and the conflict itself is wholly irrelevant.

This seems like a pretty odd dig at libertarians for an encyclopedia article.

She might be a commie:
Karl marx’s section is twice as long as any other individual’s section.
She put Friedman and Hayek together and mentions Adam Smith in that section, Mises does not show up one time.
I started to actually read it, but there isn’t enough there to be interesting.
I didn’t need to read that far. She wrapped up that one quote by saying “benefits everyone, not just the wealthy.” As soon as she says “wealthy” I knew she was a commie. Hating on rich people is a thing for them.
I knew, but was at least hoping it would be interesting.
The sad part?
It took her 3 years to put that drivel together.
White male somewhat-less-insane privilege!
Good morning Glibs. We had one hell of a line of storms yesterday. Almost all of 2 counties in Indiana are without power. This is the biggest outage they’ve ever had, it’s like post-hurricane out there. I am blessed to be the only one in my family who still has the lights on. The gym didn’t do so well, it’s without power and a lot of water came under one door so I had to pull up the flooring yesterday and mop up. That’s still a mess.
I’m glad to hear you’re okay. Hope the insurance company doesn’t give you too much hassle about repairs to the gym.
Right now there’s no reason to file a claim. Nothing important got wet, it’s water under the rubber mats in a defined area, it just takes muscle to move it all. If things start smelling in the next 24 hours we’ll check with insurance.
Oh.
The way you said “Pull up the flooring” I thought you meant stuff that had been nailed or glued to the architecture.
The base floor is concrete with either tile or fake wood on it, which are both pretty water proof. We put thick rubber mats that you use for horses on top. They work perfectly, except that they’re big and heavy and very hard to move (and cut when you’re installing). The first thing I did yesterday was peel up corners of the mats to map out where the water went. It went pretty far.
Moving big and heavy things is the point of the gym.
Free workout.
[ imagines Kevin with a squeegee attached to the front of his wheelchair like a steamroller ]
There is talk that “tornado alley” has shifted to here. This is the third or fourth set of storms with tornados and/or walls of hurricane force winds. I’ve never seen anything like it.
You’ll take our tornadoes from our cold, dead trailer parks!

CLIMATE CHANGE!!111!!!!!!
I have no doubt there is climate change happening. Our winters are different and now this. But I also know my property used to be under a glacier. Welcome to planet Earth.
That’s the wrong attitude.
If we just give the governments more power and tax Elon his “fair share”, we can fix it!
The preponderance of the chatter I’ve read implies that no, the “climate” isn’t “changing” overall but there might be local changes. Winters are warmer than I remember but is that everywhere? I dunno. And there is a lot of fudging of the data with the intent to make it impossible to arrive at an answer.
There is plenty of evidence, also, that storms and such are not increasing in number or severity. The climate cultists are flat-out lying about that.
But the real bullshit is no matter what the data says, their religion dictates that humanity must repent for “causing” whatever they think is happening. There is no evidence for that whatsoever.
The climate seems to be getting milder, not warmer. Fewer below zero days in winter, and fewer above 90 days in summer. Most of the hottest day records were set in the 1930s and 40s, and the winters were consistently colder for longer periods in the 70s.
Regarding Tornado Alley: There is some reality behind that. My guess is that is cyclical, and I have never studied how that has shifted in the past.
Weather overall: Texas has about a ten year weather cycle. We are in a cycle where winters are pretty darn harsh, and summers get pretty darn hot. That will level off in the next few years, and get back to milder winters and summers. So to me, no change.
Wishing that NYC was back under 1,000 feet of ice.
Can you just drop the ice from high altitude? I’d rather not have the good parts of upstate scoured from the earth to get to them.
That’s what I’m seeing WTF.
Not a single week of 105-110 here.
It hit 101 once.
Winter was pretty mild.
My wife blames it on the hungatunga volcano pitting so much more moisture into the stratosphere. She thinks we’re in for one more mild winter and long spring then a return to snow.
That sucks.
It does, but I’m also sitting in an air conditioned house while my sister in law, mom, dad, big brother and little sister are in the dark. I’m very grateful for that.
“A man in Florida was handed a shockingly light sentence after he lured a 13-year-old girl to buy him food before he tossed her in his car and recorded himself raping her for hours.
Bryan Oyanguren Rosado, 25, was handed 25 years behind bars after he pled guilty to the horrific kidnapping and rape of a girl in Temple Terrace….
On Rosado’s phone, police discovered a series of disturbing videos reportedly depicting the rape. In addition to the 20 videos of the incident, police found 60 other images and videos of child sex abuse material, prosecutors said.
Hillsborough State Attorney Suzy Lopez said the acceptance of the sentencing was to spare the victim from having to endure the trauma of going to trial. ”

That doesn’t sound “shockingly light”.
Shockingly light compared to shooting him in the face, which would be inhumane, but fair.
Yeah, if the girl’s Dad had administered some lead poisoning, I’d be happy to acquit as “justifiable homicide.”
Gelding him and letting him bleed out in the public square would be fair.
I mean, he’s not being crucified on the courthouse lawn. But no, spending the next 25 years as the #1 salad-tosser an Union Correctional Institution doesn’t strike me as ‘light’ either.

– Start at 10s polling period vs. 5s
– Add jitter to poll intervals
– Pause polling if tab is not visible
– Add optional feature to just indicate new comments with ‘(+)’ and stop further polling
– use fetch() instead of XHR
– drop cache-busting _ param
The ‘low impact’ option is worth trying unless you require knowing how many unread comments are server-side.
Pausing polling when the tab doesn’t have focus should also greatly cut down on things (on the desktop).
Any issues, please let me know.
My version has updated. How do I add the optional “+” feature? In Tampermonkey “Settings” tab?
If you hit the ‘hamburger’ there’s a drop-down arrow on the right of ‘Refresh Comment Count’ that lets you toggle between styles.

Compared with people who never drank or drank only occasionally, those in the high consumption group were 24% more likely to die from any cause. They were also 36% more likely to die from cancer and 14% more likely to die from heart disease.
Boozers beware.
At low and moderate levels of drinking, a different pattern emerged depending on the type of alcohol consumed. Spirits, beer and cider were associated with a significantly greater risk of death, while similar levels of wine consumption were associated with a significantly lower risk.
The contrast was also seen in deaths from cardiovascular disease. Moderate wine drinkers had a 21% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared with never or occasional drinkers. In contrast, even low levels of spirits, beer or cider consumption were associated with a 9% higher risk of cardiovascular death compared with drinking never or occasionally.
Good thing I like wine.
No info on the consumption of mead. What you don’t know can’t hurt you I guess. 😉
Drinking habits and lifestyle may also play an important role. Wine is more often consumed with meals and tends to be favored by people with higher-quality diets and healthier behaviors overall. Spirits, beer and cider are more commonly consumed outside of meals and were associated with poorer overall diet quality and other lifestyle risk factors.
Another way that capitalism screws over the working man. Socialism will fix all these problems.
So alcoholics are unhealthy, and people who enjoy fine dining also tend to pay more attention to their health. Quite the bombshell.
Completely unpredictable.
“In the MAGAsphere, it’s not enough for a woman to want motherhood. If she doesn’t give up her career and even her personal happiness in the process of making babies, it doesn’t count. Being pregnant isn’t enough. Conservatives also seem to require the “barefoot” and “in the kitchen” parts of the traditional job description.”

Look at those cavemen go.
What disgusts me most is that it has become an articule of faith among these harpies that a woman cannot find happiness and fullfilment in motherhood and that children are a burden.
Pretty much everything from history to evolutionary science to the testimony of women themselves says otherwise.
“When asked for comment by the Austin-American Statesman, his campaign replied with a picture of a whipped cream-covered pie, a reference to a term shaming women who have had sexual intercourse.”

Wait…do they mean ‘creampie?’
I have never, ever heard the word ‘creampie’ used to shame someone.
Because it’s Amanda Marcotte, that’s all the respect she deserves?
Seriously though, how does this amazing woman, an expert at mind reading not have her own CNN show?

Yeah, I think they mean creampie. I think they have as good a grasp of what that term means as they do raw dog.

In a combative face-to-face confrontation on Thursday night in San Diego, angry military families challenged the acting secretary of the Navy, Hung Cao, over difficult conditions aboard the USS Lincoln as its combat mission against Iran stretches onward with no clear date to return home, according to two people who attended the in-person meeting.
Tensions boiled over again during a separate virtual meeting later that night between Navy leadership and family members of the 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the Lincoln, according to audio and video recordings of the virtual meeting reviewed by MS NOW.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A visitor died after falling from top of a waterfall in Silver Falls State Park Monday evening.
The man crossed the barrier at the top of the approximately 177-foot South Falls to pose for a photo when he slipped and fell into the water below, according to Oregon State Police.
Despite life-saving efforts the visitor died at the scene. He was later identified as 20-year-old Zachary Mertens of Kentucky, according to OSP.
He only saw the “Do not feed the bears” sign.

Let the state run the entertainment business
As expected, the Writers Guild of America has not taken kindly to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison‘s latest threat to pull the storied studio out of California if state AG Rob Bonta refuses to settle an antitrust suit to block the planned merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.
“By threatening to leave the state because it doesn’t want the government to enforce the law, Paramount further proves the danger of its outsized power over the industry and what that will mean for writers and the creative community,” the guild said in a statement to Deadline on Tuesday afternoon. “This type of behavior is precisely why the merger should be blocked.”
The WGA is also suing to block the merger. That lawsuit, filed jointly by the WGA East and West in the Northern District of California, seeks to stop the $110 billion acquisition on the grounds that it violates federal antitrust law and would cause specific harm to writers.

Salient point – it appears that the Paramount BoD had already approved the relocation plan, probably weeks ago.

Mantra time: “Ev Over Cs” (or Ev oversees Cs overseas if I wanna get longer with it): ‘Evan over coma, craniectomy, continents and careers (and whatever Cs fit in),’ so… nothing new I face should shake or ‘concern’ me. I’ve kinda already done by far the worst parts of it, and I’ve also done the whole walk-up new-career in several continents, so doing it on home turf in my own language should be considerably easier. Nothing to fret over.
I’ve ‘gotta’ tell myself these things to remind me the current situation isn’t a deal-breaker. It can and should be game-changing, but all on the positive side. Just gotta remind myself I’m kinda good at this shit. Onward and upward, eh? Frequently starts with the first step out the door. Take care and kick ass, y’all.
Hope you find something.
“They Stood Their Ground in Florida. They’re Charged With Murder. Guess Their Race.”
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2026/08/stand-your-ground-florida-murder-racism-kkk-history.html
Clearly the most important factor.
“On June 26, 2025, longtime friends Jamarian Byrd and Travis Roberts Jr. were standing outside 504 Quail Lane in Macclenny, Florida. Around 7:45 p.m., two white teens approached them carrying firearms. One of them, 19-year-old Devin “D.J.” Powers, pointed his single-shot shotgun at 22-year-old Byrd and 24-year-old Roberts. A shot rang out and—fearing for their lives—Byrd and Roberts fired back. Twenty-six seconds later, according to a neighbor’s home-surveillance video, Powers lay bleeding on his own porch steps, shot once through the neck. He died three days later. His 14-year-old companion survived a shot to his leg….
According to Judge Ferrero, Byrd and Roberts initially had a right to defend themselves, but that right evaporated once their attacker began retreating—while he still held his shotgun—and they moved toward him. The judge also claimed that Byrd and Roberts “outnumbered” Powers, failing to note that his 14-year-old companion was present and—according to witness testimony—armed during the confrontation. The 14-year-old, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, reportedly told police to “go get them n—s” when they arrived on the scene.
The same legal system that routinely exonerates white aggression thus concluded that Byrd and Roberts went from lawful self-defense to criminal premeditation in the span of 26 seconds.”
Based upon the facts presented, the judge was correct.
On the attempted withdraw of the other parties, the named persons became the agressors when they chose to pursue and continue the altercation.
It do be like that.
Err, fired by who? It kind of makes a difference.
There is a whole lot we are not being told here. Why were Byrd and Roberts armed? Why were they at that address? Powers died on his own doorstep, so he lived in the neighborhood. Who were the witnesses, and was their testimony unchallenged?
I would not be surprised if it were fired in an unrelated event elsewhere in the neighborhood. The place sounds kinda ghetto to me.
One other question:
The 14 year old was shot, but there is no indication that he ever initiated anything.
Is “rang out” the correct cliche to use in reference to a shotgun? I think not.
The 14 year old uttered the hexagrammaton, which means his life is forfeit to the scared ones.
RC, he may have been armed.
I was also wondering about the relevance of a 14 year old saying “nigger” after the fact when, as far as I can tell, his involvement in the altercation was to show up in time to catch a bullet.
I saw that he may have been armed, UnCiv, but nowhere is it claimed that he initiated (or even did) anything.
504 Quail Lane looks exactly as you would suspect it would look.
Sorry, RC, the way the details are laid out is a mess, and I mixed up who the 14 year old was associated with.
Re-parsing the facts the timeline appears to be:
Dead guy and 14yo approach defendants and shotgun is pointed.
An unknown party discharges a firearm.
Dead guy and 14yo begin retreating
Defendants pursue and fire on Dead guy and 14yo.
Dead guy dies.
Police arrive to find wounded 14yo who deploys a slur towards the defendants who just shot him and his now dead buddy.
504 Quail Lane looks exactly as you would suspect it would look.
Like it will soon be renamed Marth Luther King Blvd?
From where did the teens approach? The street? The house? The sky?
Who lives at 504 Quail Lane? Byrd? Roberts?
Where did the shot come from? I assume the shotgun but it’s not clear
Did Powers get shot and leave the scene to his own house, or was he followed there and shot on the porch? I assume the later, thus the viewpoint of the Judge.
Such a shit-written story. The ruling is technically correct but maybe Powers got what was eventually coming to him roaming around with a shotgun that goes off.
*correction – dead guy lingered for three days. Slur preceeded dead guy dying.
So there’s no indication that the 14yo initiated, but he has not been charged, however, as the duo were withdrawing, the earlier instigation is moot anyway and the defendants are unlikely to prevail on jusfied use of force claims.
If you pursue someone who is attempting to quit the fight, it not only is no longer a Stand Your Ground case, but it’s very likely to invalidate your claim to self-defense altogether. That appears to be what happened here. It doesn’t matter about the nature of the fight or how long it took – all that matters is that you continued the fight after the other guy quit.
Related aside – my advice to my students, repeated as I heard it from the Rangemaster Pistol Instructor class, is, “Forget that Stand Your Ground laws even exist. If the safest course of action is for you to run away, then run away, I don’t care in the slightest that ‘you have a right to be there.’ Shooting someone in self-defense is always going to be a legal toss of the dice, and sometimes the dice aren’t going to come up in your favor…”
They were hanging out 30 seconds from his house though?
Crackas all look alike?
Were they the initial agressors? Were they deploying disproportionate force? Had the other party been attempting to disengage?
“Stand Your Ground” merely means you do not have a duty to retreat from a place you have a right to be. It does not change the use of force calculus.
They were murdered in Florida. Slate doesn’t care. Guess their race.
“A few months later, a Baker County grand jury indicted Jamarian Byrd and Travis Roberts Jr. on first-degree premeditated murder and other charges. The indictment alleges the men “did unlawfully kill” Powers “from a premeditated design to effect the death … by shooting” him, and it also includes a charge of aggravated battery and counts accusing them of shooting into occupied homes and firing in public.”
https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/2026/07/03/its-heartbreaking-naacp-questions-stand-your-ground-denial-as-2-baker-county-mothers-say-sons-face-life-in-prison/
“The judge wrote that entitlement “dissolved the moment” Powers “began to retreat … and was no longer a deadly threat.” The order adds that the defendants’ own statements supported the state’s argument that they continued firing as Powers ran back toward a home.
“Additionally, the defendants, who did not know (redacted )and had no acrimonious history with him, outnumbered him and quickly and easily overpowered (redacted) when they sprayed the neighborhood with at least 47 bullets,” the judge said, explaining the ruling denying the immunity.”
47?
Two gang bangers with extended magazine Glocks wouldn’t even have to reload.
I surmise Glocks based on pattern recognition and brand preference, and most Hi-Powers don’t have extended magazine options.
I was guessing Dracos/AR pistols, but who can say?
Hi-Points do have extendos, but they don’t typically work.
That’s be a little hard for the dead guy to overlook and approach with a single shot weapon. Even with an extended mag, a Glock in the waistband might be overlooked. Dracos not so much.
@NA – that both does not surprise me, and immediately strikes me as hilarious at the same time.
I don’t give a shit.
Is that the wrong answer?

STIJLTH
You’ll never know what happened by reading a Slate article. But…
“Powers lay bleeding on his own porch steps, shot once through the neck.”
That makes me think two armed men were at his home waiting for him. That’s not a very good foundation to build a self defense claim on.
That’s how I’m reading it.
The 26 second interval does not indicate an ambush. More “Chased back to his house and shot him”
Less likely but still possible – this whole thing was a beef between two street gangs and no human beings were actually involved.
While that was my hypothesis – I did not have supporting evidence from the information provided.
47 shots huh? Wasn’t that the number that it took NY’s Finest to end Amadou Diallo?
There’s a name I had forgotten.
Thanks for the insufferable memories.
Wiki says – 41 shots
A shot rang out
Was it a dark and stormy night?
I’m suspecting journalistic bias in that it might have been the defendants who fired first, leading the dead guy to turn tail, then proceeded to pursue and continue firing.
“In addition to first-degree murder, Byrd and Roberts are charged with aggravated battery, three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and one count of discharging a firearm in public.
Investigators said when they first reported the shooting that shortly before the gunfire, one of the teens was assaulted and robbed, and a handgun was stolen from him.
Detectives identified and arrested a 22-year-old man in the robbery, but he has not been charged in the shooting.”
