Back from the Gulch, I find my schedule wide open for a change. Ima enjoy the finest season of the year. The wife decided to stay another week, so I’m also bachin’ it for a bit. The kids are integrating nicely into the shop, so basically, everything is coming up Milhouse at the moment.

Links?

Pygmy STEVE SMITH.

I’m sure he celebrates every year.

Yeah, we’re still shooting at each other.

“Hamas told me so.”

What the ever loving fuck?

If SCOTUS stays consistent, this should be a good day.

I’m just going to leave this right here.

Okay, that’s it for me. Boise is beating Oregon at the half. Time for a beer and the second half. Peace out, Glibbies.

    If SCOTUS stays consistent…

I’d be happy with mostly origionalist.

They are too cowardly and east coast urban elitist to do the right thing and strike down the NFA

When the Pentagon starts issuing Letters of Marque, we’ll know we’re there.

      • UnCivilServant

The decision should be short – “What part of ‘Shall not be infringed’ do you not understand? Arms have been removed from your purview in unambiguous terms.”

      • UnCivilServant

        *should does not mean will.

I figured it was a weasel of some sort when I saw the video yesterday.

Been close to a couple of river otters and backed away not wanting to get their ire up.

I’ve ran across one wolverine in my life and that thing was terrifying. And fast as hell.

      • Nephilium

Last year I saw some river otters playing in the water along a trail I bike. They recently returned to some of the areas as the pollution has gotten cleaned up.

      • Threedoor

They were fun to watch but I didn’t want to get their attention as they were much larger than I expected they would be.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

A couple of weeks ago at dusk I almost ran over a young otter scampering across the road at a small stream crossing. This is in southeast PA near Delaware, where otters are only starting to come back to after a century’s absence (thanks to releases). I expect the local populations of suckers, sunnies, bass, minnows, and crayfish to start plummeting. shortly.

      • Spudalicious

I’ve run into river otters a few times. I back away slowly.

Yes, fish people should never be trusted. What with their poles and bait and such.

      Lovecraft warned us.

Just the river poles, they will switch bate on you.

I’m just amused that Governor Pataki and Mayor Giuliani somehow became the same person.

      • rhywun

But yeah… this is just Momdaddy getting ahead of the expected criticism that he’s an anti-American, pro-Hamas Muslim supremacist.

      • UnCivilServant

        That’s what he is.

I had this mental image of him making an unwanted appearance at the upcoming memorial, the crowd rushing the stage and ripping him limb from limb as the NYPD stands down.

      • rhywun

He was already facing condemnation from some groups and that is not going to change – nobody is stupid enough to be swayed by this blatant pandering.

A friend told me a story about getting chased by a badger. It didn’t sound like fun.

Sounds liek the kind of situation a fully automatic shotgun was made for. Enough lead in the air might immobilize it long enough to gain distance.

Nah, automatic shotguns are for the uncultured weak. With a badger problem, you need dachshunds.

Had one charge my dad and I when I was a kid. Pretty scary. My dad shot at him and he went back into the hole he ran out of to charge us. Then my dad proceeded to try to get him to come back out.

At least you seem to have a competitive game to watch. We could watch tOSU blow out poor little Ball State or watch Pitt blow out my alma mater. 🙄 Tonight we may watch a little Tiger vs. Tiger action over steaks just to try to see a game that isn’t completely lopsided.

    • Nephilium

One of the things I don’t like about college ball, when the point spreads are 30+ points, why watch? Who wants a half of garbage time?

I’m well aware of the irony of posting this as a Browns fan. There’s been many a game where I left the local at the half.

Day at Sky Lake outside Carmel, a man-made lake turned into an aquatic park. Legit aquatic obstacle course obstacles, good slides with ramps and lift, 20′, 30′ and 40′ (ish) platforms to jump into the water from, and all those for little ‘uns, too.

Hands down, the best adult trip to a water park in my life. The timid 11yo was convinced to jump off the 20’ platform after Dad took the 13yo aside, telling him there’s $10 in for him if he gets 11yo to do it, which he did. Atta boys.

The 6yo is staying over and the oldest will have their place to themselves. Their parents are going out. I… hmm. They’ll be back tomorrow at like noon, and, hmm. I bet they’re having an ‘interesting’ eve of some sort. I suspect much tuppery, of one sort or another, perhaps not together, or possibly with additional folk. *quizzical gumshoe face*

“Influencer dies after receiving penis enlargement injection in Thailand: report
A British Nigerian influencer died following a botched penis enlargement procedure in Thailand, according to a UK coroner’s report.

Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, 43, was vacationing in Bangkok with his wife, Daniella Simba Allen, when he underwent the procedure on March 5… At the hospital, Ubiribo was unable to respond to questions coherently — and he ultimately died of a pulmonary embolism before staff could perform a CT scan to diagnose it.”

Ya see? Don’t fucking do that. I’m not tellin’ ya to not wiggle y’er finger when it’s broken, but I kinda am. Don’t fucking do that. And with your wife. *quizzical gaze intensies*

    Gee, that’s a shame.

Nike is set to be removed from the S&P 100 after nearly 18 years.

    • Threedoor

This is all because they no longer make a crew sock that fits me.

    • rhywun

      I don’t think I’ve ever bought a Nike product. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • R.J.

        Too narrow for me.

      • Threedoor

They used to be the crew sock I would buy but they changed the design over a decade ago and the socks went down a couple sizes but the labeling never changed.

    • The Hyperbole

I forget, why am I ‘spose to hate Nike?

Well, the link shows a nike ad celebrating dylan mulvaney’s journey to being a happy-go-lucky women.

Apparently, they didn’t watch bud light crash and burn.

      • R.J.

I don’t hate them. But they are narrow canal boats.
They probably use Chinese slave labor or something.

      • rhywun

No idea but once I could afford to buy name brands I have usually gone with Adidas. I could never stand Nike’s “image” for lack of a better word.

        Duh.

      • Nephilium

Colin Kaepernick was affiliated with Nike after the kneeling, right?

      • The Hyperbole

Meh, paid for an Instagram post for someone with million of followers, or in other words marketing. If you weren’t following Dylan you’d have never seen it if the bigots hadn’t throw a hissy fit. As for Collin kneeling, another meh, Patriotism, nationalism and jingoism only get people killed, stop playing the Anthem at sporting events, it reeks of totalitarianism.

  12. R.J.

Does anyone know – Is the lone holdout for guilty or not guilty?

    • Shpip

Just the rumors: that it was a male juror who voted Guilty and wouldn’t budge.

      • R.J.

Interesting. I felt like it was probably the other way around. Time will tell.

    • kinnath

I believe the one hold out was for guilty.

Someone yesterday (maybe DEG) quoted the MA law on the insanity defense. If the defendant pleads not guilty by insanity, the defense does not need to prove the defendant was not capable of deciding right and wrong. The prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt the defendant was not insane.

So, 11 jurors thought the prosecution had not met that burden. 1 did.

      — at least, that’s what I remember —

I don’t care enough to dig into it deeper.

      • kinnath

        AI says:

Lindsay Clancy is permanently paralyzed from the waist down due to a complete transection of her spinal cord at the T5 and T6 vertebrae. This catastrophic injury occurred on January 24, 2023, when she jumped from a second-story window of her Duxbury, Massachusetts home immediately after strangling her three children.

Medical experts and trial testimony confirm that the 20-foot fall caused severe damage, leaving her with no sensation below her sternum and requiring the use of a wheelchair for all mobility. Her physical condition has been a central element of her murder trial, where her defense argued the injury resulted from postpartum psychosis and a suicide attempt, while prosecutors contended it demonstrated premeditation and a desire to die.

Defense says she was bonkers. Prosecution says she was rational.

      • DEG

        That’s basically it.

In MA, the prosecution has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that a defendant using the insanity defense is not insane. There is no burden of proof for the defendant. There is another way the prosecution can go about it, but that is equally as hard.

The defense attorney says the jury was 11-1 with the lone hold out going for a guilty verdict. I haven’t seen a local news source that talked to the jurors to find what their actual vote was. Everyone is basing their reporting and interpretation of the jury’s vote on what the defense attorney have said. I have seen some local news sources say either or both of the prosecutor and defense attorney plan to talk to the jurors.

I have my suspicions on what the vote was (one for guilty of one of the three criminal charges, 11 for not guilty by reason of insanity).

Clancy is at the Tewksbury State Hospital until the prosecution decides what to do. Even in Massachusetts, I don’t see the prosecution dropping this case. They might offer a plea deal instead of going to another trial. But I still see zero chance of the prosecution letting her walk.

Clancy also has a civil suit pending against her doctors. Her ex-husband Patrick also has a civil suit pending against her doctors. I expect Lyndsey Clancy’s suit will go nowhere until her criminal proceedings are over.

I’m far from an expert on the case and have only started paying attention to it in its end stages, but I’ll put money that I’ve spent more time with local news coverage (i.e. they’re actually covering the trial not posting twitter hot takes or summarizing what the local news has put out) than anyone here.

      • Evan from Evansville

“In MA, the prosecution has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that a defendant using the insanity defense is not insane. ”

Then why doesn’t *every* defendant claim insanity? At the least, adds another hurdle for prosecution to overcome.

      • The Hyperbole

“Then why doesn’t *every* defendant claim insanity?”

I’m no lawyer but I’d imagine an insanity plea means you’re admitting that you “did it”, probably better to claim “It was some other dude” in most cases.

      • DEG

Then why doesn’t *every* defendant claim insanity? At the least, adds another hurdle for prosecution to overcome.

In order to claim insanity (lack of criminal responsibility to be pedantic according to MA law) in Massachusetts you must concede that committed the act. Also in Massachusetts, there is no separate criminal or insanity phase to the trial. Some states separate them. So the jury is deciding whether or not you are responsible for your actions, and remember that you already conceded that you committed a crime.

      • Grumbletarian

DEG originally posted the jury instructions in MA for an insanity defense, but I’ll repost the link.

        https://www.mass.gov/doc/9200-lack-of-criminal-responsibility/download

Here’s what I think is the relevant part:

The second way for the Commonwealth to prove a defendant was criminally responsible for their conduct is for the Commonwealth to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that, even if the defendant suffered from a mental disease or defect at the time of the alleged offense, the defendant nonetheless retained the substantial capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness or criminality of their conduct and to conform their conduct to the requirements of the law.

To establish that the defendant had the substantial capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness or criminality of their conduct, the Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant appreciated – that is, that the defendant knew or understood in some meaningful way – that their conduct was either illegal or wrong.

To establish that the defendant had the substantial capacity to conform their conduct to the law’s requirements, the Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any mental disease or defect that may have existed at the time of the alleged offense did not deprive the defendant of their ability to behave as the law requires – that is, to obey the law.

Clancey testified that she felt she had no choice but to follow the directions of the voice in her head telling her to kill the kids and then herself. This suggest to me that she still knew what she was doing was wrong: you can act under coercion while still knowing right from wrong. And the suicide attempt also suggests she knew she had done wrong. There is a debate on if the attempt was legitimate or if it was staged to make the insanity defense more plausible (the cuts to her neck and wrists were shallow, and she only went to the second floor to jump, not high enough to be certain of death.) Also, one of the first things she asked upon waking up in the hospital was if she had a laywer. That’s not something someone would ask if they were under the impression they had done nothing wrong.

      • Shpip

But I still see zero chance of the prosecution letting her walk.

I think that’s already off the table. Letting her roll, on the other hand….

      • Evan from Evansville

“…in Massachusetts you must concede that committed the act…”

Yeah. If they had me dead-to-rights, uh. Ok?
‘I did it! But I’m totally fuckin’ insane! Prove I ain’t!’ <– I'd go that route. Why not? *shrug* If the 'med facility' is better than prison? Maybe a chance of getting let go? Fuck it!

      • DEG

Letting her roll, on the other hand….

I should have seen that coming…..

      • DEG

If the ‘med facility’ is better than prison?

I know of two state facilities in MA for insane criminals (not competent for trial, not guilty by reason of insanity, etc.). Tewksbury and Bridgewater. Clancy is at Tewksbury. This article has near its end a list of violent incidents reported by the Boston CBS affiliate over the years. It seems like not a nice facility.

The law in MA if you are found not guilty by reason of insanity requires a 40 day or 60 day (the law isn’t too clear to me, maybe I’m missing something) commitment in a facility. After that, you’re up for annual reviews by a judge and the DA as to whether or not you can be released.

        ::clicks “Mute”::

First and last time I will comment on this drama – I don’t mute but might consider it for the first time. It’s really bringing the mood down around here – over and over again night after night – and it’s not fair to everyone else. Something is not right here and I don’t get it.

        That is all.

      • Brochettaward

Something really isn’t right about all of it. I don’t want to talk shit if someone needs help, but you can’t help someone who clearly isn’t willing to take it at best. And I’d actually kind of echo some of the comments the ‘lurker’ posted. It’s all rather odd. And Yusef himself hasn’t been around for some time. I don’t know what’s really going on, but even if anyone did get involved I’d have to advise them to be highly cautious themselves.

    • Jackdaw

As a long-tenured lurker, I’m struck by how many of TO’Gs posts come across like Yusuf’s passive suicidal ideation from when he lost Wendy. In my headcanon, he’s trying to get himself SWATted.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        ?

        I don’t know you, but your opinion interests me. 858 483 4252

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Yes, he is oddly wired, to which he would proably admit.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

If there have been offers of help… Much appreciated but I haven’t had time to view them.

      • Jackdaw

You cannot possibly be ignorant of all of the prior offers of help. You say you’re afraid of Bob, yet you continue to post on a site where he is a known commenter and past contributor, as if he could not see what you say about him by reading any thread even if not logged in. All of my recollections of Toxteth’s comments are of coherent discussions of actual topics. If this _is_ you, you’ve burned through all of the sympathy that even Moj and GT might have had with your lack of interest in taking assistance or helping yourself. You shouldn’t be surprised at being muted.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I just told you I have been too busy to read the replies. It is that bad.

      • Brochettaward

Ok. Well you seem to be reading them now. So tell us exactly what started all this, what specifically is going on, and what you want us to do for you.

      • Spudalicious

        That’s a very interesting observation.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

As stated above, naivete or complacency. Not a masochist.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

And this house is a hovel that I cannot fix or keep up with.

      • DrOtto

“Yes, he is oddly wired…” welcome to Glibertarians.com!

      • Ted S.

I’m struck by how many of TO’Gs posts come across like Yusuf’s passive suicidal ideation from when he lost Wendy.

And his blowing off job after job after two weeks. Hard to have sympathy for people sabotaging themselves like that.

  22. Toxteth O'Grady

I AM ignorant of the previous offers. I am run off my feet here. Was, anyway. Can’t keep up with this house. Five dogs to start.

What would you all prefer that I do?

You’re not me and not here.

    Thanks.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

I am afraid Bob will murder me (as he keeps threatening) and I get “tiresome: mute her”?

I won’t darken your doorway again!

      • Brochettaward

Well, Toxteth – the only thing anyone can really do since you won’t reach out or communicate back with anyone really at all let alone coherently is call the police at this point. People have been offering now for what I’d say is months to help and we still don’t even have details of any kind beyond Yusef is apparently gone crazier.

      • Brochettaward

The posts barely even seem like you yourself.

And then last night there was a suggestion of asking for donations.

If there’s something going on here, you need to get into detail as to what it is and how you think people here can help you. What is it that you want people to do for you.

Do you just want to vent?

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I did leave a phone number, and I do worry about you a bit, Broche. But I haven’t had time to check in with the Glibs in months.

        If y’all could do a home visit…

    • Brochettaward

I know that a number of Glibs in your general area have attempted to make more direct contact. From last night:

      Mojeaux
Please email me. moriah at moriahjovan dot com

I’m willing to do what I can to help, though I’m on the other side of the country. The phone number you posted is your private line?

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        I saw that; thanks. Really.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Yeah, landline.

  23. rhywun

Arthur Ashe Stadium is practically a geriatric ward this year.

    lol Truth.

I never want to hear “40 is the new 30” or some shit like that again.

“With slams routinely giving them prime stages and treating them like royalty, and lazy, stuck-in-the-past commentators gassing them up all the time, the only incentive for aging players to gracefully exit is extreme public embarrassment.”

    A-fucking-men.

    The fan-service is sickening.

  24. Brochettaward

Just want to point out that the Supreme Court is just now taking up a law passed in 2006. One that has stayed in effect despite all the other rulings that were pretty clear as to which way that law should go. It’s the same old tired game with the second amendment. They could write clear as day and unequivocally that you can’t ban AR’s or semi-auto guns with no weasel words of any kind and they’d still just pass something else that would take people another generation or so to litigate. Rinse, lather, and repeat.

  25. rhywun

    The future is female.

Fox Sports used to show men’s Aussie Rules and Rugby. Tonight at least, it’s female only. OK, then.

    *surfs*

  26. Toxteth O'Grady

It is just so fun to be called a lazy cunt or dumb bitch several times a day while visibly ill. Someone could JavaScript that.

    It is sooooo bad here.

    • Brochettaward

Could you repost the address Toxteth?

  27. Toxteth O'Grady

Honi soit qu’il mal y pense!

Jeez, Rhy, you too? I’m being threatened with murder but I’m the bad guy for mentioning it??

    Yall keep your boys club.

    • Brochettaward

      Toxteth, please provide the address,.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Physically? 5323 Middleton Road, 92109

I didn’t start this, yall. Why would I.

    • Ted S.

Happy Labor Day to you too, but don’t call me Eve.

      • Fourscore

Somehow it doesn’t seem right to celebrate Labor Day with a day off, after not having been employed for over 30 years.

        /Pours another cuppa coffee…

  28. UnCivilServant

I don’t want to be here.

I’m perfectly safe, but I do need a vacation. One more week I suppose.

    • Ted S.

You get a day off tomorrow.

And of course you want to be on Glibs.

      • UnCivilServant

        Methinks you presume too much.

  29. Oy the Billy-Bumbler

    Morning.

    How about them Wolverines!

  30. Evan from Evansville

Mornin’. Mom’s at church, so I’m on morning Uncle Duty w the 6yo. He’s rather special, that one.

Not the first time he’s flipped my brain’s ‘Must Make Children’ switch on. I’ll ignore it, but powerful trickery, it plays.
