Busy week here. I was in Seattle for some tech meetings with a power semiconductor mogul, flew back, then immediately returned to the airport to pick up our semi-regular Dutch visitor. And like any good visitor, he came prepared: some single-malt whiskey from Belgium (I had no idea they made whiskey in Belgium, what do they use, French fries?). A few glasses after dinner put everything back in perspective.
Anyway, let’s discuss birthdays, because today’s include the guy who must have landscaped our yard; a guy who must have been involved in a St. Bernard breeding program; a guy who squeezed the universe into a ball; some Jew who wrote some things; a guy who, if he were around today, would have been on The Wire; a woman famous for her critters; a woman who set records for brutal corruption; a guy who put numerous pretend weed dealers into prison; an ex-governor who was hilarious in her radio interviews; a woman who needlessly worried about guys fucking her; a woman who every guy actually wanted to fuck; Jesus Fucking Christ; the Stacey Abrams of Texas; and the biggest asshole in tennis.
Speaking of assholes, Links is full of them.
Wait, I was assured that the Supreme Court was in the pockets of Team Red. I haz a confuse.
I think I have a couple bottles of this put away somewhere.
Pocket change for them, but a horrible, horrible precedent for everyone else.
We call this “Advance TACO.” If only he were smart enough to do the OMWC Plan. But he’s not.
Another “I hate everybody” story.
Or… maybe it’s the lack of testosterone.
I just bought tickets for Prime and me to see Tommy Emmanuel when he comes through Buffalo. She hadn’t heard of him before but was quite taken with some videos I sent her. She may have shit taste in men, but certainly can appreciate good music. And good whiskey.

a guy who, if he were around today, would have been on The Wire
Happy birthday Philippe Petit! (Actually, he’s still around.)
Our heroes at TSA find something absolutely harmless. We should feel safer now and have deep gratitude.
Not Adahn, is that you?
TSA out of Syracuse was putting a lot of bags for secondary screening.
The guy having to perform those looked quite annoyed at the x-ray guy for doing so.
Its magical theater but lasted a generation and now is ingrained.
Another “I hate everybody” story.
What dod the poor dogs do to deserve your hate
Also bernese are not the kind of dog to theeaten people really… Though it is off course possible.
They viciously slobber on people while begging for petting!
Yeah, I found the “let’s the dogs roam and shit on other people’s property” quite plausible.
The “Bernese Mountain Dogs threatening babies” part, not so much.
whaddup doh’
L’chaim!
Or… maybe it’s the lack of testosterone.
boring… Ah yes because most young women have such interesting conversations.
Notes from the young dating battlefield from my boys:
Everything is pigeonholed.
From your music likes to social feeds and subscriptions.
Broad minded thinking is considered verboten.
If you fail to recognize the “important thing of the day” on Insta or TikTok, you are out of touch.
Luckily, they have all found some pockets of normalcy in the current ladies they are dating as far as we are told.
the dutch used to call it pillarization
I can’t imagine talking to a youngster these days. I don’t have kids, so it never happens. But the ones I observe in public seem like a different species to me. On the rare occasion they speak to each other rather than stare at their screens, I don’t follow a thing they are saying.
At least since I graduated from college, and especially since I’ve gotten…ahem…older, I’ve realized I can overlook some qualities (or lack of same) in men that other women might consider deal breakers. But he must not be boring.
::recalls a particularly tedious blind date many years ago with an automotive engineer::
Yeah. That’s my deal breaker.
Boring conversation is relative.
it is easier when the woman can hold her side though
::recalls a particularly tedious blind date many years ago with an automotive engineer::
Werner Brandes?
You have to be pretty funny to make her hold her side, and that by definition would not be boring.
Absolutely, Pie. And those of us girls who…lacked certain qualities that boys looked for learned early on that we had to develop our personalities.
True, GT, when we met a few years back, I remember you being charming, but I don’t remember the size of your tits.
Thank you, Old Man, and likewise! Sadly, I grew up with the opposite of what would have been ideal – I had a big nose and little tits.
Whatever it is, it’s men’s fault.
Snark aside, it’s actually a decent set of recommendations. I could do without the virtue signalling to women he starts with, but the last third or so of the piece is solid. Could have led with his ‘conclusion’ – raise a man.
Was he Korean?
So there really is a “man bites dog” story.
I was looking for advice on raiding my white Christian son from New York lefties. Idiotic woke college girls might not like him!
We call this “Advance TACO.” If only he were smart enough to do the OMWC Plan. But he’s not.
But did you mail a detailed copy of the plan to the white house
the Stacey Abrams of Texas
Beautiful.
And good whiskey. – nothing belgian in that case, one would presume
Well, if it is Belgian single malt, it must be made of fry oil, not just fries.
From what I gather, there’s a lot of traffic through the Strait now. Not sure what would change/what would be gained by taking Iran’s offer to “open” it. I suspect what Iran means is “let us start shipping oil to the ChiComs again”.
Bingo
let us start shipping oil to the ChiComs again
State visit by Xi – what a coincidence!
Iran is awaiting an official US response to its proposal to reopen the strait of Hormuz within a week and resume nuclear talks in return for the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, as Donald Trump was reported to have rejected the deal.
Although Iran is yet to receive his official response, the US president is said to be privately sceptical Iran would meet his demands to dismantle its nuclear programme, according to unnamed US officials cited by the Wall Street Journal.
Trump has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms in the US, the newspaper reported.
So we need to win the war another 50 times before it is over?

I was taken aback by the question at first, but then I remembered where we were: New York City—a city where you’ll find professionals reading books and magazines on the subway all the time. It’s not uncommon to see people reading Atlas Shrugged, The Economist, or a novel.
I smell bullshit.
It was an out of place title drop for sure…but I guess could technically be true
That was the other sort of annoying part of the article – New Yorkers are sophisticated, curious, and interesting people with broad ideas and thoughts, able to hold court on any topic you might breach. Polymaths really. The rest of the country, not so much. Here, let us New York-ers clear things up for you.
But yeah, actually an interesting set of ideas once you get past the condescending non-nonsensical setup.
There are some very smart people in New York. Of course while the very smart people are reading on the subway, the feral morons are likely to set them on fire, stab them, or drag them away for a little pre-cannibalism rape.
I would expect the really smart people to avoid the subway these days.
I also suspect that, while there was certainly a time when people were reading books on the subway, these days they are looking at their phones.
Anyone who is reading a book probably has a Kindle, because why haul all that paper around on your commute. In which case, nobody can tell what you are reading.
Ah, no.
I haven’t seen physical media of any kind in years.
Young people read on their phones (usually social media) and old people like me an iPad because of screen size.
I never see Kindles.
Also too, everywhere I have been in a bar, people will talk to strangers. Its kinda the reason people are there.
I’ve seen it quite a few times over the years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s up there with “Game of Thrones” among the most common titles I see people reading on the subway.
I’d have more respect for politicians if it were true

I posted this in the overnight thread, but I can’t help but think OMWC will enjoy it too.
So many drugs you had to make them fall out of his ass yourself?
There it is
I said I would be reposting it here since most people don’t show up for the end of the overnight posts.
And I appreciate you giving me the set up for my comment 🙂
Good morning from soggy Long Island! Today’s excitement is waiting for high tide at 11:30am to see how much beach gets covered. The forecast rain totals are down from yesterday but the Nor’easter isn’t going anywhere soon and rain is expected to be constant for the next 48 hours. Fortunately my host has an extremely well stocked liquor cabinet.
Hope that you, rhy, and any other coastal Easterners stay safe!

I’m more surprised that AOL still exists than I am at California wineries going bankrupt.
I still have an AOL email. Was converted over when they bought Netscape.
“The decision ends, for this election at least, Republicans’ effort to use a gerrymandered map to improve their chances of winning a seventh Missouri seat in the U.S. House.”
Good. Somehow, it’s cynical gerrymandering when it happens in a blue state but it’s totally different when it benefits team red. Splitting KCMO into essentially three different congressional districts in order to gain a seat for the gain of a particular political party is absurd on the face of it. Nevermind the fact all districts must be structured under the latest census under Missouri law(as far as I understand anyway). Fuck the Missouri Republican party and their hypothetical bullshit.
* hypocritical
FU, autocorrect.
I had no idea Siegfried and Roy played guitar.
I, on the other hand, have been listening to a lot of KATZROAR:

Wow there is so much competition for that award. Unfortunately I am limited to just two links.
Fortunately this doesn’t apply to Glibs

A few of these hit close to home, and I still have some residual anger and resentment.
On the other hand, a large part of why I’m on this site with yous today.
Why do you hate children?
(clicks on ESPN Gameday)…Can Pat McAfee just fuck off already?
