They should’ve stuck with Vietnamese. It could’ve been a Nguyen-Nguyen situation.
The Norwegians that settled there makes sense.
Equatorial persons arriving there just doesn’t make sense in my brain other than a conduit for easy fraud
It’s always about the money, isn’t it?
A quick look at the St Paul City Council

At the risk of being a misogynistic asshole, looking at that picture makes me think that city is truly screwed.
Also, I got the HH picture, thank you.
Tell me you don’t know the politics of the Norwegians that settled there without telling me you don’t know the politics of the Norwegians that settled there. Socialism is practically in their dna.
“Job done.”
When I lived in Wisconsin, one of the annual fall rituals was going to the range to check zero on your deer gun.
It didn’t take long to learn that you didn’t stick around if there were Hmong there. On a scale of 1 to 10, they had zero point zero zero firearms safety.
Years ago there were some interesting stories involving the Hmong and MN wildlife. Scorched earth…
Roughly 10 years ago(?) there was that incident where a Hmong killed several hunters after a trespassing issue, can’t remember if it was Michigan or Wisconsin. The guy was a good shot.

When I was a kid, and lived there, my aunt used to warn us about the Hmong by telling us “There are thieves Hmong us.” Although I have to say, all the Hmong I’ve met were hard workers.

The only thing that could be raising costs on the Holy Ones Library would be shipping materials from California via high speed rail.
I love how the final cost has tripled. It’s quintessential Democrat.
Armed bystander fatally shoots suspected teen gunman after 3 children, 1 adult killed at Oregon school
Big question, do they charge him for bringing a gun inside a school building? In a deep blue state the answer really isn’t obvious.
There are parents who their own child’s life may very well be owed to this person that would still sit on a jury and convict for owning a scary weapon of war
Absolutely true, unfortunately.
On TwiX last night, some local bint emoted, “Why would someone need to carry a GUN at a school?”
Never forget that a very large cohort of the Left is completely fucking retarded.
A few years ago, I got yelled at in Lowe’s for my open carry by a schoolmarm looking bint.
She said she couldn’t believe I was carrying a pistol like that when there was a shooting the week before.
Her logic made my brain hurt.
“What better time is there to be armed than when there are crazies about?”
More and more, “Shut up, retard” is the appropriate response to a sizable cohort of people.
A few months ago there was a gang-related mass shooting at the Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, that was concluded when an uninvolved person named Martinez Long shot the shooter dead. Long was 19 years only and was carrying without a permit. He plead guilty to Carrying a Concealed Weapon and was sentenced to two years of probation.
That all is interesting by itself, but the cherry on top was the quote from the judge (the fucking judge!) during sentencing:
Long doesn’t strike me as exactly one of life’s winners (19 years old and ‘working on his GED’ – alarm bells are ringing…) but it speaks well to his character that, after hearing that, he didn’t jump over the bench and beat some sense into the judge with his own gavel.
“ And what do you need a gun for protection in a mall, in the first place?”
Jeez, what a lack of social awareness on the judge’s part. A gang fight broke out in the mall. It was probably a regular occurrence.
🤦🏼♀️
I’m gonna hold off on specific analysis until some more facts are available, but I do want to point out that this random Dad pursued the shooter into the school, which is about the most dangerous thing you can do with a gun, and still managed to bring the event to a successful conclusion.
You don’t need to be a SWAT cop or a SOCOM pipe-hitter (or even a brilliant and handsome USPSA Master) to prevail in a gunfight. You need to be carrying a gun that you’ve developed some proficiency with, and you need to be aware of and reactive to your surroundings. Everything else is gravy.
As a Dad, if my kid was in that school, I’m following the shooter in whether I’m armed or not.
Not bravery, just fear.
When my kids were in high school I spent so much time in the principal’s office the staff thought I was a student.
Yep.
And the usual suspects clamored for more “gun control.”
Less due to the state, than this took place in California on the Deschutes.
“Big question, do they charge him for bringing a gun inside a school building? In a deep blue state the answer really isn’t obvious.”
I would say it is brutally obvious. They will charge him and throw the book at him to discourage others from protecting themselves and others. You should willingly submit yourself to the criminality the cabal in power determines you deserve, you supremacist bastards!
De law is de law!
One more reason not to duck jury duty. You might be the one sane juror who can stop a miscarriage of justice.
If justice is supposed to restore the status quo ante when possible, I wonder how they will determine how many more kids they will need to kill, and which ones?
They will not, because for the first time in half a century, the governor’s race is close. Kotek called the guy a hero. She is scared shitless that throwing the book at this guy will cost her the election.
They can always wait till charge him till after the election.
My reading of Oregon law is if he has a permit, he’s OK though he’ll have to prove that he has a permit.

Definition of public building:

Morning, Banjos.
whaddup doh’
heya Banjos- how YOU doin’ ?
Got paid for a week’s work! Good bump for me, in my realm, but this is always the fucker:
Social Security (FICA) Flat 6.2% on all gross wages $47.74
So a shade under $100 taken out w employer contribution. That’s 13% of my total ‘earnings’ for the ~40hrs I worked. Ya know who could use that money? Me. Indigent and poor hardest hit. Well. Those who are employed. It seems such an easy selling point, a 12.4% ‘increase’ in wages!! Oh, not ‘increase?’ Yeah, that’s right, just a ‘Not Taking Your Money in the First Place’ bonus. That’d be nice.
Onward and up, folk. The Brewers are fucking good and I’m pleased the Dodgers got fucking embarrassed by the small market.
So your pretax gross was $770?
At $19.25*40, yes. I now exempted myself from their health coverage but I don’t know if that’s been dealt w, subtracted this early or not
*Shrug* Thank y’all. Last 20% of the week now, clocking in!
Just keep plugging away, you got this.
Congrats on the job success, Evan.
It would be interesting to see how many people would opt out of SocSec if doing so meant they didn’t withhold your side of the tax AND your employer had to pay you their side of the tax.
Of course, letting people off the hook for the tax would collapse the current system even faster. Bug, or feature?
I would opt out even if it meant I didn’t get paid.
Everyone seems to think it would be OK to shut down SS as long as they “get back what I’m owed”.
There is no feasible way to get rid of it if we did it that way.
Assuming anyone is actually owed anything from the government.
I prefer shutting down SS, then ‘getting back what I’m owed’ out of the asses of the IRS and the Commerce department. Perhaps they have some transplantable organs that could be sold on the black market?
I agree to give up all SS benefits while continuing to pay SS taxes if my kids could get out of the system.
I was on board with offering opt outs or private accounts since the 90s. Somehow, this was an obscene and offensive suggestion.
ron, I think “not getting paid” is pretty much what “opting out” means.
The fact that it can’t possibly pay back what’s owed is what makes it a classic Ponzi scheme. Why we keep carrying on with the pretense that is sustainable is just econically insane/suicidal.
I was trying to say that regardless of what I was “owed”, at 55 years old, I wouldn’t care if they would just stop stealing my money.
I have seen many people say they would like SS to go away, but still want what they have paid in.
And many want what the “think” they have paid-in – the number of people who claim to “have paid the maximum for 40 years” is staggering. Once they do an easy check of their total payments they switch to wanting what they paid + employer payments + interest (or worse yet “S&P” average over their lifetime.
Glad it’s working out.
Thanks, Evan. Your s.s. deduction showed up in my s.s. check on Wednesday.
First day on Real Job. Many things to say, especially how cluelessly easy and repetitive it is.

You need to pay your fair share EV.
We have seen the future, and it is France.
After the war, France was a machine. We called it the Trente Glorieuses, thirty glorious years. We built Concorde, the most beautiful aircraft ever made. We built a fleet of nuclear reactors in about fifteen years and gave ourselves some of the cleanest, cheapest electricity in the world. We built Ariane and put Europe in space. We built the TGV, the fastest train on earth. We invented the Minitel, an online network in millions of homes before most of you had heard of the internet. We were not a museum. We were builders.
Then came 1981. François Mitterrand.
My 5 years in France in the ’60s are for naught. It was an enjoyable time for a 1Score though.
Even then the locals were concerned about the Algerian immigrants, turns out the rural folks were ahead of the politicians.
Saw parts of that linked from elsewhere.
Basically, France is toast and the US is hurtling rapidly down the same path to ruin.
“I suspect that about zero of the voters who are about to vote for Democrats have given a moment’s thought to any of these considerations.”
No kidding.
I’ll go a step further. The true believers on the left are simply denying reality.
It really is a shame. I like France and most of the Frenchmen I’ve known, and he’s absolutely not wrong about France’s industrial and technological abilities – my own favorite example would be the innovative and brilliantly engineered Citroën DS.
But once you start down the socialist path, it’s really hard to change course. Santayana was really quite an optimist.
Even Donald said he won’t touch SS or Medicare.
Our fate was sealed decades ago just like France’s.
I can’t forgive him for that Rob Thomas collaboration.

Lisa “Kennedy” Montgomery initially bonded with the embattled ex-diplomat over their “shared disdain” for California Gov. Gavin Newsom — Guilfoyle’s ex-husband — but became “less comfortable” the more they became acquainted, the Fox News contributor wrote in the Daily Mail Thursday.”

Oh yes, the old “public service” defense.
But why is Kennedy getting into high school gossip?
That’s what she does for the Daily Mail
A gal has got to eat.
Ariana Grande begs to differ.
😱
Would Guilfoyle even rate a “6” at closing time in a bar full of drunk incels?
The plastic surgery is frightening.
She looked more human and a little better before the plastic surgery.
Though that was back when she was married to Gavin Newsom. Which for me is a deal breaker no matter what she looks like.
Yikes! I hadn’t seen her in 5-10 years. thats crazy.
Also:

If he didn’t tuck-a-buck, it wasn’t a lap dance. Everybody knows this.
That’s how you know that this Lucas guy is a stupid cuck. He had the chance to pull out his wallet and make it rain, on camera no less, and he didn’t.
Maybe Lucas isn’t into random dudes rubbing their junk on them while trying to do his job?
Not sure how he’s a cuck in this situation.
Lucas should probably consider a job other than ‘security at a pro wrestling match’ if he’s not comfortable with being involved in a certain amount of spectacle.
But I’m using ‘cuck’ in the more general sense of ‘loser.’ I really have no idea whether Lucas has a chair in his bedroom, and shouldn’t assume.
I’m with the security guard. this sounds fake AND gay.
Wait, this is WWE right? So definitely fake and gay.

Teachers are selfless heroes, just ask them.
The guys that raised the flag on Iwo Jima are close, right?
Reminds me of a documentary I saw on the San Fransisco earthquake.
A teacher led her son out of their partially destroyed house.
With a self-satisfied look on her face, she says, “My son thinks I’m a hero and I guess I am.”
A firefighter crawls through a collapsed building, pushing a chainsaw in front of him and cuts around a stuck lady, then drags her out.
He says,”I’m not a hero, I was just doing my job.”
Have I mentioned I hate teachers?
I was just relaying the story of a teacher to my sister last night where the teacher had a sign in her yard during Covid that said “I’m a teacher, what’s your Superpower?” If you don’t believe teachers are heros, just ask one and they’ll tell you. Then ask if they’re underpaid, but you don’t usually have to ask them that, they lead with it.
A good friend of mine was over in Iraq with the Marine Corps, and received a Bronze Star for, among other things, jumping into a flooded irrigation canal and pulling three unconscious crew members out of an overturned LAV-25 before they drowned.
When people asked him about it, he used to say, “Oh yeah, that’s really the medal they give you for not fucking up your job too badly.”
Hearing that really cemented the idea that anyone who talks about what a hero they are, isn’t one.
Eh..sometimes something just snaps.

“But that all underscores the greater truth about the administration’s attacks on Omar and her fellow Somali-Americans. The success of the congresswoman and her fellow immigrants handily disproves the claim that non-white people are inferior, and instead proves that progressives are right — that the U.S. is better off for allowing people from around the world to live here. For MAGA, the fear of immigration is not about feeling contaminated, but being shown up and exposed as mediocrities in comparison to industrious newcomers.”

Fraud is hard work.
Outside the handful of truly racist people, I’ve never heard anyone ever think this bullshit.
She is such a melodramatic cunt.
I’ve heard this claim constantly in arguments against voter ID and in favor of DEI.
See above, about the Left being absolute retards. They actually think (or want you to think) that being adept at scamming money from low-IQ guilty liberal white women is ‘being successful.’
Over in the UK, perhaps we can discuss how ‘successful’ the Pakistani immigrant community is at raping little girls and getting away with it?
Success at stealing is still success.
I’ll plan on mentioning that when I take the stand in my own defense…
If you have to take the stand in your own defense, you weren’t that successful.
The truly successful thieves do not even let people know anything was stolen.
Just look at all the NGO’s and learing centers.

Nope.

OFFS enough already
You’re getting lazy, Amanduh.
“the claim that non-white people are inferior”
These people are incapable of arguing using any type of logic. There are so many straw men on the left.
This week on X someone shared a video of a woman author. It went something like, “Can I meet the author?” “Where is he?” “What do you mean HE?” She rightfully got skewered because a majority of authors, and people working anywhere in the publishing industry, are women and have been for a long time.
Oh wait, it’s Amanda, so that’s basically her trade mark.

‘there has been a lot of talk lately of Africans having lower IQs than whitey.’
That has been a well established fact for a very long time.
You can argue about what it means but I don’t think there is any real doubt about the truth of that.
Where are the non-NGO/patronage Somali businesses?
Other than being elected to Congress in the safest of safe districts (for a Somali), what has she done that could be called a success?
Aren’t something like 80% of Somali households in MN on welfare? That’s “successful”?

1880-1920, more than 20 million immigrants made it to America.
They expanded the labor force and brought skills with them, but also generated larger returns by choosing to live in urban areas.
By 1940, they raised American income per capita by just shy of 10% (8.2%).
https://x.com/cremieuxrecueil/status/2111082597455417406
Two things: such counterfactuals are suspect. And those who are against imigration on culture reasons would take a 8% reduction in per capita gdp for less immigration. I do not have much opinion on the topic though.
Let me guess – the person making this random argument is ignoring the fact that between 1880 and 1920 there was not massive money-draining welfare state they could leech off off, so they had to work or die. Plus these people assimilated, coming here to be Americans, not just feed off the American wealth.
My grandparents were in that group, no welfare was available.
I’m sure the signs read “Broken English Spoken Here”

The court has was played the 2023 police video interview of the first alleged victim.
At the beginning of the interview, she stated: “I’m reporting that Russell Brand did rape me.”
The woman told police that she first encountered Brand at a Labour Party conference fringe event in Bournemouth in 1999, where he approached her from behind and repeatedly pulled her ponytail.
She initially described him as “very gentlemanly”, “attentive” and “softly spoken”. She said she had even assumed he was gay because of his mannerism.
The woman later invited Brand back to her hotel room to continue their conversation because she didn’t want to go to pubs andclubs. And she would not have invited him if she thought that he was hitting on her, she also said that he wasn’t her type.
https://x.com/I_amMukhtar/status/2110722613936844957
Honest question: do women often invite men they are not interested in to their hotel rooms for conversation? Also what evidence can there be afyer 25 years?
There needs to be a statute of limitations.
Honest question: do women often invite men they are not interested in to their hotel rooms for conversation?
I don’t believe so, and I would say most of the people I know don’t think so either. Asking a man to your hotel room, no matter who it is, might not be an open invitation for sex, but it’s definitely keeping the possibility open. There are plenty of places where you could talk to a person, such as a hotel lobby or at a seating area outside.
Honestly, at this point this is my soundtrack for all rape accusations.

I did. The expression of the orange peel does make a difference. If you want to step it up another level, hold a lighter between the peel and the drink when expressing it. You can also look into smoking the glass first if you want to add more smoke notes.
This time of year, one of my favorite variants is to go with a half ounce of maple syrup instead of simple, and a richer bitters (black walnut are my preference here). The downside to maple is that you’ll need to shake it (unless you make maple simple).
Maple syrup should be good.
In the apple old fashioned, I didn’t like the orange.
Might make some maple simple.
I would guess that’s equal parts maple syrup and water, simmered until it mixes well?
ron73440:
No need to simmer it. If I’m making a simple syrup, I make it right in the bottle. Add in the sugar part (by weight), and add an equal amount of boiling/hot water (by weight) and shaking it until it’s mixed. If you’re doing an infusion as well (such as cinnamon or ginger), that you want to keep on a low heat to help pull out the flavors. While most bartenders will do honey syrup, most just use straight maple and realize it’s going to require more shaking.
Thanks
No, they do not. “Let’s go to my hotel room” is basically shorthand for “let’s go to my hotel room and fuck”. Because fucking is about the only thing you need to go to the hotel room to do.

Trademark Law. That’s who cares.
This is like The Beatles suing Apple.
If you do not defend your trademark, you risk losing it. They were obligated to take legal action or the upstart could subsume the trademark and sue them back for still using it.
I don’t common words and phrases should be trademarkable in the first place.
If the event was similar to a Crowder Change My Mind(tm) event, that’s the perfect case to sue for trademark infringement.

Shame and regret
For participants who now regret their vote for Trump, much of their frustration centers on what they see as a string of failed promises. When asked to give the president’s job performance a letter grade, a majority of participants, 6 out of 8, assigned him a grade of either D or F, while two selected C.
“I just feel like nothing went correctly. I just feel like everything got worse,” said John, a 29-year-old Black man from Florida. (Participants agreed to be part of the focus group on the condition that they be identified by only their first names.)
John, who identifies as a Republican and has voted for Trump since 2016, gave the president an F and said he now plans to support Democratic candidates this fall, in large part because of the strain he has felt from rising costs.
“I’m willing to give the other side a chance,” he added. “I don’t think they’re going to make a total change. But things are just horrible right now for me. So I feel like even if they make one or two small changes, it will probably benefit me.”
I wonder if they ever got around to discussing the courts’ role in Trump’s “failures” and broken promises.
‘m sure NPR’s hand picked focus group will will much happier when the Democrats take over.
Sure, the courts. Trump has been a fucking disaster and the Reps deserve what they’re about to get. We don’t though.
And I was just about to post – they must have interviewed some of the Glibs. Tax cuts, markets doing well, Education Dept gutted, reduced Govt, DEI and quiltbag BS addressed, EPA slashing regs (including climate BS), energy independence, Nato, immigration crackdowns including HIb, low unemployment, fraud focus, out of most conflicts (yeah – Iran, incredibly minor).
I’ll take Trump every time.
To be fair, if John who identifies as a Republican and has voted for Trump since 2016 is in the correct affinity group there is a high chance the Dems will throw money his way to make his life “better”.
“A former University of Kentucky cheerleader who admitted to killing her newborn son, whose lifeless body was found stuffed in a trash bag, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Laken Snelling, 22, pleaded guilty at Fayette Circuit Court in August to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.”

“A once prominent youth gymnastics coach was sentenced to 90 years in prison Wednesday for secretly recording his young female students undressing and using the bathroom at a Mississippi gym, in a case that rocked the sport.
US District Judge Kristi Johnson gave the maximum sentence possible to Sean Gardner, ordering that he serve 30 years in prison for each of the three federal child pornography production charges to which he pleaded guilty. The sentence likely amounts to life in prison for Gardner, 39.”

You would think being murdered would be worse.
Can’t we just shoot them both in the face?
Justice is blind, or something.
Courtney, a 20-year-old white woman based in South Carolina, said she doesn’t regret her vote for Trump in 2024 and overall aligns with Republicans, but she did admit she has grown more distrustful of both major political parties, particularly on foreign policy.
“I just really do feel like we would be in this situation either way. … Education, the economy, everything else would be so much better if we weren’t pumping money out into other countries that aren’t ours,” she said, referring to U.S. aid for Israel and the decision to go to war with Iran.
“I don’t think it matters what side you vote on — that’s why I voted red, because I agree with those policies more — but at the end of the day, what we do in the Middle East is going to be not at all up to [the] party [in power],” she said during the focus group.
Just your typical fascist Republican antisemite.
She’s White.
Trump has been a fucking disaster
He ruined free trade!
Only if you’re counting Canada, China, Russia, Europe and the Middle East.
Toufanian points to Navigator’s own polling, which has found that even as the GOP has lost trust on economic issues, “it’s not a one-for-one with Democrats gaining that trust.”
“A lot of people are moving to this middle, this category that ‘I don’t trust either party,'” she said. “We are seeing people who are becoming increasingly pessimistic about our political parties and our political system, and they’re not feeling strongly that either party can really deliver for them.”
People don’t trust politicians? We cannot allow that.
We just need to convince those people they are better off as dependents of our party so they will stay on the reservation.
