You’re making the common mistake of under-rating your enemies and over-rating your friends.

If you think that Black Bloc terrorists (some of whom have combat training from ex-US SOCOM hitters) with a dozen or more direct action events under their belts are going to fold because you wave your AR at them… Well, I hope you live long enough to have another thing coming.

I fear, the US fractures into red and blue zones followed by decades of asymmetric warfare in each zone where the “minority” group is taking armed action against the “majority” group.

So, yeah, I have been black pilled to the extreme.

      • AlexinCT

The left felt they had this in the bag. When Obama won they told us “We are all socialists now”, even when we KNEW that was bullshit. They thought the global reset and one world marxist government was a done deal, and the fight was whether the leadership would come from D.C., Brussels, or Beijing. Then this Trump guy basically pours sugar in their tank, and the whole engine freezes up. People get to see the plan and how little the elite think of the masses during the Kung Flue reset attempt, and suddenly a vast majority realize they are being played by an evil minority hell bent on creating a new feudal system where this minority seals the masses fate as serfs, while they benefit form a new hereditary aristocracy.

You think the after all the “sacrifices” they made to land that plane they will just shrug, and admit the people don’t want it so it is over? No, they intend to fight. And like Lucifer did, they would rather rule over a burned out hell, than lose. That should not stop us from fighting them, and we can and will win, but is said to make you understand the evil we are up against.

Just like the majority of gun owners aren’t ex-special forces, the majority of “revolutionaries” aren’t SF trained.

As far as housing goes, one of he reasons I sold my rental is that it is becoming more and more onerous to be a landlord. Between inspections, what it takes to evict a bad tenant, and so on, it is worth it if that is a full time job, but not as an individual. Knowing the ins and outs of every law, vs a tenants “rights” NGO puts you at a serious disadvantage legally, and can trap you pretty badly if you are not careful.

Also, when we sold it, it went for the asking price(!), but they can back hard on the inspection, asking for all sorts of things to be changed due to extreme readings of the laws. But, as it was a soft market, we went with it so as to not lose the sale.

Today begins my first day in Shipping after two in the Vault and one in Intake. Asking ’round, this department shift is considered a much nicer, less haphazard, side of this gig. Intake wasn’t bad – tedious and repetitive, perhaps, but I’d have been pleased there. My first day in the big office plan, which should be rather interesting. We’ll see if today is mostly shadowing, which almost assuredly it will be, but I expect I’ll have some work of my own to take care of, likely after lunch.

over the years I fired a shit ton of drivers over putting gas in diesel engines. after about 4-5 blocks the vans (E350s) would sputter and die, need to be towed to Penske and have the fuel system flushed. Which put all of the work they were scheduled to do behind, cost overtime with other drivers, and so on, down the line.

Our old M35 deuce- and-a-halfs had multifuel engines that would run on anything that was liquid and would burn. I never tried it, so I’m not sure if you had to flip a switch or something.

When Chrysler took there turbine car to France they ran it on Chanel No. 5.

      • Threedoor

The multifuel has a metering system that adjusts fuel volume by specific gravity if I remember right. My dad dumped a 55 gal drum of used motor oil in his once but beyond that he didn’t want to mess with putting gas in it. He was fuel and electrical when he was in the army and said running gas in them wasent a good idea still. It’s a good way to fry your valves and burn up the turbo.

ATF will run in a non multifuel diesel just fine.

Since there were no matches this weekend and Lily was chill, I indulged my inner millennial and played video games.

Fallout 4 desperately needs a manual. It did get its hooks into me but there were a few times where my play came to a screeching halt because the in-game quest instructions were non-existent or actively wrong. Notable example was the retaking of “The Castle.” The actual retaking was fine, restarting it was not. A quest giver tells me to blast away rubble to clear a tunnel? Ok, so I tried grenades, mines, shooting it with lasers, finally consulted the internet and discovered… I’m supposed to enter workshop mode and reclaim the rubble as building material? How TF is that “blasting?” The “you must connect generators to specific things with wires that can only go so far” also required reaching out to Friend Internet.

My playstyle is finally showing success. After sneak + gun nut + rifleman + sniper, insurmountable obstacles are very much surmountable. An outpost of Super Mutants with missile launchers and mininukes became doable once I figured out a 4-crank laser musket one shots them. A hunting rifle likewise modded as far as I can until I get gun nut 2 one-shots all turrets, humans and ghouls, making strolling through Boston at night a complete slaughter/loot festival. I hope in-game time isn’t a problem because I’m filling up my inventory on my way to the next map icon, fast travelling back to sanctuary to drop off everything, returning to that furthest icon and inching my way to quest objectives.

One thing that irks me is the re-use of the lockpicking animation/interface of Skyrim, but with different game mechanics. It makes sense in Skyrim that the difficulty of picking in the interface represented the difference between the lock difficulty and the character skill. In Fallout, with a go/no go system, why bother with breakable picks (not to mention that the pick is not even doing the tensioning in an actual lockpicking attempt…) I did find the wordle-based “computer hacking” kind of funny though.

    • Not Adahn

Also, those icons on the building stuff options needed an explanation. I thought the ones with the raider helmets meant that if I built those they would attract raiders. I should not need the internet as an external reference source to play a game!

As for actually playing, it went something like this:
      – Troy system, started with janky scout ship.
      – Sold everything off janky scout ship that I could do without, bought better guns, torpedo launchers, and tungsten armor.
      – Did some patrols and scout mission in local system.
      – Pirates and Retros are flying extra-janky light fighters, mostly in ones and twos. Easily shoot down most of them.
      – Make enough money to upgrade janky scout ship – weapons, scanners, ECM, engine and shield upgrades, etc.
      – Still not enough money to buy better ship.
      – Jump over to New Detroit system in search of more money.
      – First patrol mission, bounced by three Kilrathi heavy fighters, get blown into atoms.

Serbia’s long-standing leader Aleksandar Vučić has admitted defeat to a student-led protest movement in snap parliamentary elections.

Celebrations erupted as crowds descended on the centre of Belgrade, Novi Sad and other cities.

The student movement was formed less than two years ago in response to a railway station disaster blamed on corruption and negligence, but fought the election with candidates from a cross-section of Serbian society.

“It is clear we have lost these elections,” right-wing populist leader Vučić said as he conceded. With 97% of polling stations counted, Serbia’s election commission said the students had won 2.24 million votes and the former ruling party 1.67 million.

The students had secured 52.6% of the vote, while Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was on 39.2%, according to its preliminary figures late on Monday morning.

And rapper Nicki Minaj joined Trump on stage during his campaign rally where she received compliments on her backside Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the crowd, Minaj said: ‘President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time, and I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again.’

Ahead of her remarks, Trump commented on the state of Minaj’s derrière, saying that she had ‘beautiful a**’, before encouraging her to ‘stand up’ and show it off.

The compliment to Minaj came after Trump offered a similar one to GOP Ohio Senate candidate Jon Husted’s backside: ‘I looked at his [Husted’s] a**’ before adding, ‘I’ve never done that with a man before.’

    Declinist realism

It is easier to imagine the end of the world than an upturn in British economic fortunes

    https://thecritic.co.uk/declinist-realism/

It is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of the welfare state. I am, of course, doing quite a bit more than merely paraphrasing Mark Fisher, but there is something about his 2009 book Capitalist Realism that strikes me as correct.

With this in mind, perhaps an accurate diagnosis of political thinking in Britain is something I will call “declinist realism” — that is, our collective inability to imagine what functioning capitalism with moderate economic growth even looks like any more.

We struggle to imagine an economy in which increasing productivity leads to more investment, competition improves services and ordinary work allows people to buy themselves better lives.

To many people, particularly young people who haven’t experienced a single year of economic growth since they were born, prosperity increasingly appears to mean securing a protected claim on somebody else’s income. In this cruel and relentless zero-sum world, economic life boils down to a contest over who pays and who receives.

    …

. Yes, of course we need economic growth, but it needs to be good growth or, better still, small, organic amounts of growth carefully distributed around every postcode. Yes, we need to level up, but we’re going to do it through an overly expensive government office building that barely anyone goes to. Yes, there is a chronic shortage of housing, but ultimately what people need is state subsidies for mortgage deposits. Yes, we can’t build infrastructure, but we’re creating a new government body to oversee how much non-construction happens, and we’re monitoring the situation.

    • rhywun

      Sounds like “managed decline”.

But yeah, spraying more subsidies around will help. 🙄

The truly crazy part is that Argentina has shown how quickly things can turn around if you take you boot off the neck of the economy.

Same goes for certain former Eastern Bloc countries like Poland – not that Poland is Galt’s Gulch, but just back the fuck off and things can rapidly grow.

      • AlexinCT

What do you hear the usual suspects complain about Argentina’s changes constantly? That it is an unfair system because government is no longer picking the winners & loser, and people they want to win, are losing. The socialists would agenda is fot everyone but the people at the top to share misery, because that is the one thing they can deliver.

“We have been really creative. We had cut funding. We are planning to cut 5 million dollars in funding over the next two years, we’re already halfway there. So, we’re really being fiscally responsible to our community, but dollars only stretch so far,” she said.”

I don’t believe a word of that. Heights already pay some of the highest taxes in the state and just like a crack addict, will beg for another hit in a couple of years. Enrollment has decreased and they refuse to right size the budget.

    • RAHeinlein

It could be worse, it could be the Cleveland Metro schools. Parma schools has tried at least five times to pass a levy to raise taxes in the past couple of years, all of them failing after a news story broke about them having massive accounting issues.

DOGE is another example of, “You come at the king, you best not miss.” It was a good idea, but it *NEEDED* to be carried thru to it’s conclusion. Instead, rather than destroying or disabling the permanent bureaucracy, DOGE was shuttered before doing any more than pissing it off.

“A specter is haunting Europe, and plenty of other places too. Nobody knows quite what to call it. It isn’t the specter of communism this time around, or at least not under that name — although something approaching class warfare, redefined in 21st-century terms, is on the agenda for the first time in decades.”

    https://www.salon.com/2026/10/26/why-are-young-people-so-angry-why-isnt-everyone/

    No, it’s communism.

    • AlexinCT

The specter is simple: the elite have embraced communism, because under communism, the elite will still be inanely wealthy, able to keep that in the family, wild power willy-nilly, and don’t have to give a shit what the serfs want. i mention again that capitalism allows some to become insanely wealthy, and they will have undue power in that case. Under socialism only the people in charge will have the wealth and power. and that is what they want the most, because the common people will not just let them fuck them over anymore. Freedom for the masses is a problem for the elite. Especially when you have a system that allows someone like an Elon to make it big, and then undermine the system they have/want because he refuses to sell his soul to them.

    • RAHeinlein

The left is openly cheering about Lula winning in Brazil – it’s communism.

  26. Sensei

The Atlantic goes all in on communism. Possible paywall.

One way to lower food prices, then, would be for the government to provide a public option for food purchasing. The Kitchen Table Project argues that the federal government should launch an “affordable groceries partnership” in which it would agree to purchase a basket of food staples, including eggs, ground beef, milk, produce, rice, and peanut butter. Because the government would be buying in large quantities, it would have leverage to negotiate down the prices for these food items. Then it would sell to participating grocery stores at that lower price point.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/10/grocery-prices-public-option/689132/

    • RAHeinlein

Because apparently grocers, distributors, and large food companies can’t and don’t buy “in large quantities”

Staple food items have almost always been very affordable (other than specific price shocks e.g. avian flu) – the proletariat doesn’t want the basics, they want EVERYTHING to be low-cost or free.

So, my Leatherman saga keeps going.

To catch up – for years I had a Leatherman Wave, of late it lived in my range bag but I misplaced it when I had to clean up.

For my road trip I got a tiny multitool with scissors instead of pliers. That was extremely handy.

I decided to replace the missing Wave. Ordered a Rebar. It turned out to be bulkier than the old Wave. So I figured I’d order a Wave. Turns out the Wave+ is not a Wave, it is as bulk as the Rebar, but somehow heavier.

    Ugh.

So at the moment I own four of these. One missing Wave, One Mini, One Rebar, and One Wave+. I want my missing Wave to turn up. It was the right size.

    • ron73440

I usually find missing tools by buying a replacement.

That’s why I have about 4 sets of allen keys.

I’m guessing when you went to put the new Leatherman away the old one wasn’t sitting there where you couldn’t find it before.

If that is the case it might actually be lost.

      • Not Adahn

While I do have too many sets of Allen/Torx wrenches I’ve stopped accumulating them and been buying single wrenches and keeping them at their point of use. When they don’t move (or move with the item they go with) they don’t get lost.

      • ron73440

        Only four?
