This…So Called Superior Court of Kangaroos

So much to focus on to rattle our chains, between the ongoing war between college fraternities and muscular whores, Major League Baseball and baseball fans, Boomers and everyone else, lets just come together and hate on something we can all agree on: lawyers.

This is my review of Best Day Brewing Kölsch NA:

Maybe not lawyers specifically, just the ones that become judges. Once again, in news that is too local for TOS…

The family of a road rage victim in Arizona used his likeness to create a posthumous AI video played at his killer’s sentencing last year. Now, an appeals court has vacated the sentence, calling the decision to allow the video a “fundamental error.”

Last May, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Todd Lang gave Gabriel Paul Horcasitas the maximum sentence for the fatal shooting of Christopher Pelkey, 37, on Nov. 13, 2021. Horcasitas, 54, was convicted of manslaughter and endangerment.

The 10½-year sentence was handed down after an AI-generated video was played in court in which a replica of Pelkey voiced “forgiveness” for Horcasitas.

I just want to be the first to point out this guy from what I read should in fact be in prison. However, the use of an AI video as the basis for the sentence I am happy the appellate court struck down.

Which reminds me that it is election time in Arizona, in case the AFL – CIO guy that showed up at my door yesterday wasn’t a good enough indicator. The conversation went something like this:

“Thank you, I’m not interested.”

“Undecided?”

“No….Listen, I’ll keep your handout, thanks.”

I would joke the unions aren’t sending their best, but in fact …they did.

Anyways, in Arizona we have a lot of resources available from the state that allows voters to be informed of what we’re voting on (TW: SP wrote this). In this case, I’m looking at judges. Now SP went through a detailed explanation of how she reviewed the information available, and how she interpreted the it, and used it as the basis for additional review.

In fairness to SP…I don’t have that kind of time. I vote superior judges down, every single one of them for three reasons:

  • Stupid rulings like this,
  • Piss off, and
  • Get a real job.

Somebody decided they were going to take a style that isn’t particularly known for having a high ABV and simply removing it altogether? Surely an idea like this will work. After all, it more or less works for Guinness, who incidentally sells more cans of fake Guinness than actual Guinness. I’m just curious what they do with the extra alcohol post-COVID. At any rate, I am happy to report this does NOT work. Kölsch uses an ale yeast (top fermenting) that happens to bloom at lower temperatures that a lager would flourish. This has a distinct flavor profile I believe, that I can discern. This NA version does not have that distinctiveness that may very well exist only within the confines of my skull. When I say this isn’t it, that’s what I mean. Maybe it works for you. Best Day Brewing Kölsch NA: 1.4/5 <0.5% abv

    Hard pass.

    • Chafed

      Yup. Sounds awful.

  2. Common Tater

    How muscular was she?

    • DEG

I saw the deadlift video where she pulled 315 lbs with a mixed grip and straps (WTF? mixed grip AND straps?). She had higher bodyfat in that video, no muscular definition that I could see.

I saw some other pictures where she’s flexing and is probably lower bodyfat than the deadlift video. Looks to me like what a typical athletic woman could achieve over many years of training without PEDs. One of those pictures where she looks heavily muscled I think is a combination of lighting and posing.

Having said that, if she got to where she is in a year or two, she’s probably on a low dose of something.

    • DEG

And the picture Mexican Sharpshooter linked? She is nowhere near as muscular as the woman in the meme.

      • rhywun

Still looks crazypants. The lads probably counted that as a plus.

      • Common Tater

I don’t know if any of that’s real or her. It doesn’t look like her other pictures. I haven’t seen a deadlift video.

      • DEG

I don’t know if any of that’s real or her.

The picture Mexican Sharpshooter posted? It’s an AI generated meme.

      • Common Tater

I just watched the deadlift video. Maybe it’s her? Who knows?

“who incidentally sells more cans of fake Guinness than actual Guinness”

I don’t think I’ve ever seen NA Guinness.

    • Threedoor

I haven’t seen it but I’ll give it a try.

  4. Common Tater

No idea how they could allow an AI witness. How could anyone know if he would have expressed forgiveness?

    • Chafed

Right there with you. Even more confusing to me is the AI forgave the killer. So I don’t see how the maximum sentence is error
Though I could see the court laying down a blanket rule of no AI at sentencing.

    • Threedoor

I remember reading about that at the time and thinking it was going to cause trouble.

RIP SP. I see hayeksplosives in the comments of that article. RIP.

Lots of names that don’t come around anymore.

“JUST IN: 89% of American seniors support higher taxes on younger workers to protect current Social Security benefits, per Cato Institute”

They We have been assured for decades that the Ponzi Tax is totally legit and honest way to fund our comfort and leisure in our golden years.

    • Fourscore

It never was about protecting old people. It was about FDR wanting to get re-elected. It’s still the same now only now old people have grasped the brass ring and ain’t gonna let it go. Talk about building a third rail.

I understand. It’s not going to change until the Day of Reckoning comes and that’s sooner than expected, I think.

Trump just sent out $90 per Old Person, just in time for mid-terms. Expect him to be bragging about that as well.

      • Threedoor

It took till 94 for the shine of SS to start to wear off on the electorate.

And they kept up with the scam.

  8. rhywun

No judges on my ballot. I dunno if that’s normal for NJ or not.

    • DEG

Judges are appointed in New Jersey by the governor and confirmed by the state senate.

      • rhywun

Fine by me. One less page to ignore on the ballot.

  9. The Late P Brooks

And they have been able to rig the system to protect their largesse. We have a housing shortage because they support zoning laws that make it difficult to build new houses, for instance. In fact, so many of the things young people need — housing, childcare, medical care, education, jobs — are made less obtainable because government regulation gets in the way. Regulation supported by the boomers.

And now they want to raise our taxes too?

So tiresome. High density walkable cities arose because of constraints, geographical or transportational. Where I lived outside of Livingston Montana was essentially inaccessible before modern four wheel drive trucks and cars. It wasn’t exactly a picnic getting up and down that road in the winter in a four wheel drive pickup, some days. Prior to that it was grazed by sheep in the spring.

Is NIMBY zoning a real thing? Of course.

But- a lot of what makes housing so absurdly expensive and difficult to build has more to do with regulatory capture and insanely nitpicky building codes.

Is that supposed to be a masked ICE agent pushing an undocumented child off a cliff or something?

      • Brochettaward

        Oh sweet summer child:

In Animals, he plays a cucked lawyer, running for mayor of LA. He is also married to a bitchy black woman (who is having an affair).

His mixed race kid gets kidnapped for ransom. Plot twist!! They grabbed the kids friend by mistake. So now he has to decide how far he’ll go & pay to get back the kid. Who happens to be the undocumented child of his illegal immigrant maid/nanny.

    • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

      It looks like a comedy.

    • Threedoor

      That’s cool.
I bet I’d have to duck in there a lot.

  10. The Late P Brooks

we’re held hostage by elderly politicians who refuse to surrender power, and older voters who, as a group (with exceptions, obviously), simply don’t care all that much about the financial and cultural future their grandchildren will inherit.

    Eat shit and die, sonny.

It’s not the old fogeys who have turned “the culture” into a cesspool of hate and envy.

    • Chafed

Bernie Sanders and Nancy Pelosi beg to differ.

      • Ted S.

“The culture” was a cesspool of hate and envy long before the current old fogeys were around.

    • Brochettaward

I can’t imagine the selfishness and greed and lack of accountability for a generation that has run the debt up to what it is today and pretending that the “greed and envy” or issues this country is facing are the product of dopey young people.

If young people are voting for socialist twats, it’s probably because they can look around them and see that the older generation has looted the coffers and stripped the country of the simplest pathways to success that used to exist.

You don’t get to dominate the country’s politics for generations and then complain about the results.

It doesn’t take a genius to ask the average boomer MAGA voter why if their generation is so great and they’ve dominated politics for decades now that the country needs to be fixed to begin with.

      • Brochettaward

Pathways to retirement that boomers live off of? Being destroyed.

Social security? Won’t be there without significant tax increases or other fixes. Or just straight benefit cuts.

Medicare? Like this should be the least attractive demographic for private insurers. Instead they continue to offer ever more lavish and ridiculous benefits to draw those people in because the feds throw so much money around for them. No Boomber Betty, I don’t want to pay for your tennis lessons or Bob’s dick pills for that matter. Christ, some plans are offering to pay for subscription streaming services for the elderly. And can’t forget that because so many old people have alienated everyone around them that some plans PAY young people to go keep them company.

You can’t even make this shit up. The boomers are the wealthiest generation by far and yet they continue to vote to keep the money flowing up to them. To deny this is just absurd.

Social security was started because Grandma used to have to eat cat food in old age. As boomers are fond to tell young people, they have more money than everyone else and maybe the young ones will one day too (narrator note – they will not because of boomer economic policies)! So why do we have continue to take money from the young and healthy to give to the boomers?

Get out of here with the bullshit.

Even just on a personal level, most young people are willing to learn and adapt to changes. Whenever you see someone bitching about a self check-out lane you can bet and win 70% of the time it’s some useless boomer who doesn’t want to have to think for themselves.

        Get off your high horse.

    • dbleagle

I for one would happily forgo collecting my SS as long as my children and their children are permanently excused from paying any SS taxes (or newfangled derivative taxes0 for their working lives.

      • Threedoor

        MeToo.
Granted I’ll never see any social security.

  11. dbleagle

I am expecting ballots to be arriving in my mailbox any day now. One will be addressed to me, the other 2-4 will be addressed to people who I have never known. “Most secure election evah” my ass it is.

I too will vote no on every proposition and referendum. SP’s criteria are my criteria as well.

I will see the Dem names, and knowing that they’ll win, vote against every single one of them. For the “non-partisan” positions for the “Office of Hawaiian Affairs” I will not vote for anyone. The entire reason for that office is to extract tax money from everyone and give it to certified “native” Hawaiians. No, fuck you, no again. I will not lend even a hint of my acceptance of OHA as an entity.

The “beer” does not seem worth the aluminum that it is packaged in. Thanks Mexi for taking one for the team.

    • Threedoor

My wife’s parents got a ballot for my wife delivered to their place in WA for 15 years after she became an Idaho resident.

She would call the county auditors office to tell them they needed to stop sending ballots in her name and they pushed back with ‘it’s not our job.’ They finally stopped sending them.

I’m guessing in motor voter states this is the default status of their elections. And what do people do? Some throw them away. But I’m betting a lot of them fill them out and mail them in. Especially the young college age renter demographic.

    • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

My parents were quickly removed from California’s voter list when they passed away, but then they were registered Republicans.

  12. The Late P Brooks

It’s simply wrong to sentence the next generation to indentured servitude.

    Fuck you cut spending.

    • Brochettaward

Boomers are the biggest welfare queens in the country.

They learned it from you, Dad!

      • Threedoor

        Farmers.

Granted most of them are boomers too

  13. The Late P Brooks

One will be addressed to me, the other 2-4 will be addressed to people who I have never known.

Is destroying those ballots a criminal offense?

    • dbleagle

I return them with “No such person resides at this address” in big red letters inscribed on the envelope. To be fair to the state I received five extra ballots when the state first adopted the 100% mail in model and now I am down to two extra ballots during the recent primary election. I did humor the state by voting for the two available LP candidates.

  14. The Late P Brooks

    Get off your high horse.

    You sound upset.

    • Brochettaward

I’m really tired of the old hypocritical fucks who run this country, yes. There’s not a single god damn accusation they level at the younger generations that doesn’t apply to them multiple times over.

Young people are dumb right until you need one to show you how to work your phone. Hold the service worker in disdain while asking them to do your thinking for you. On and on with that generation, but they’re the first ones to rant about other generations.

Boomers have run the country into the ground. If they had any shame (or honor of any kind, conversely), they’d commit Seppuku.

  15. The Late P Brooks

I wouldn’t give a fuck if they put an upper age limit on voting. Or a work requirement. I think it should cost money to vote.

But let’s see more collectivist shrieking about the downtrodden masses.

    • Threedoor

If you own real property outright you can vote.

Otherwise you get to sit on the sidelines and STFU.
