The Easter Bunny or Something

by | Oct 11, 2025 | Beer, Food & Drink, Media, Sports | 101 comments

Sometimes when everyone tries to make a controversy out of nothing, I like to think back and drink profusely.

This is my review of By All Means Brewing Zymopunk Pilsner:

In the beginning, nobody gave a rat’s ass about the Super Bowl. It was some NFL-AFL spectacle between two competing professional football leagues that will never be replicated. Then the leagues merged, and people started giving a shit about it. Then it became the ultimate display of American cultural dominance on a world that doesn’t give a rat’s ass about football. This is all Michael Jackson’s fault.

So my question is, why does anyone give a rat’s ass about the halftime show? (TW: this guy is retarded)

For those folks who remain boiling mad over the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime performer, here’s a piece of well-learned wisdom: there will come a time when business, advertisers and culture will no longer cater to your tastes and preferences.

It’s a hard lesson we all face, even those in positions of power. Whether they choose to accept it is another matter. For instance, President Donald Trump called the Bad Bunny selection “absolutely ridiculous,” and Bogotá, Colombia-born U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, reportedly referred to the Puerto Rican-born rapper, producer, and singer as a “second-rate musician.” House Speaker Mike Johnson said country music star Lee Greenwood, known for his anthem “God Bless the U.S.A., should replace him.

SLD: I don’t know who Bad Bunny is but I assume he is a communist that happens to worships Satan like nearly everyone else that makes music these days, and quite frankly he is free to unironically worship the dark lord as is his right.

See? Its amazing.

I don’t know what universe this guy thinks he lives in that the cultural right doesn’t realize little about mainstream culture that is going to cater to them. This is why creationist museums exist, and why they are so goddamn AWESOME. I am however old enough to remember when Coldplay was the headliner for the halftime show, but the backlash from football fans everywhere resulted in a show headlined by Beyonce. So the NFL is only going to cater to people that like shittier music than Coldplay.

Seriously, why does anyone watch the halftime show? This is a football game—go take a piss, grab some food, refill your beer and by the time you’re done the teams are taking the field for the second half.

When beer and fringe culture converge you get this. I’m going to level with you, I don’t know what this is on the outside. It looks cool, but I probably shouldn’t endorse Zymopunk because it could be some sort of Satan worshiping communist troupe. I don’t know.p, but I bet one of you do. Otherwise…its a Czech Pilsner, and a rather well made one at that. If I find other offerings from these guy I will certainly buy more as is my custom to judge the brewery by how they make a Pils. Its as good as the artwork. By All Means Brewing Zymopunk Pilsner: 3.6/5

I was with you until the “teams are taking the field”. The women cheerleaders are the real stars of the show.

Its as good as the artwork.

    Good.

If I’m going to watch something just for girls bouncing around, I’ll just dig up some of those SEC sorority videos that were making the rounds in the last couple of months. At least those girls looked to be having fun.

Don’t care about Not-Bhad Not-Bhunny really… because I never watch the game at all anymore. Probably won’t even bother with the Puppybowl — way too many commercial breaks there. Now get off my lawn, everyone… dangnabbit….

I suppose that’s true. I forgot about the dancers.

Now I have to go look up Zymopunk.

Newsome is a criminal. He belongs in jail. There is no such thing as an ‘unconstitutional law’. They are not laws, they are crimes committed by states. The problem with the constitutional prohibitions are that they do not have teeth. We should repair that.

I just reflexively assume his music is a horrific mire of suckitude. Otherwise he never would have been picked to perform.

I can’t speak for OMWC, but I regard the statement that the US government knew about 911 and deliberately allowed it to happen as equal to the statement that the Israeli government knew about 107 and deliberately allowed it to happen. And both are extraordinary claims and require substantial evidence to be other than a sign that the speaker has allowed themself to fall into an unstable mindset. When I have pressed ‘truthers’ for evidence what I get is always the sort of vague Monday morning quarterbacking that assumes as baseline that things which became clear after the fact were known, discussed, coordinated and clear before the fact. That’s not persuasive. And you are not an abused victim because people call you out for this bullshit.

    Here we go…

    1. I couldn’t care less about being called stupid by OMWC and never claimed to be an “abused victim.” So let’s start with that.
    2. I don’t know what extraordinary evidence would be needed to suggest the mere idea beyond Israel had a mountain of evidence indicating an attack was going to happen. There’s far, far more to suggest that Israel allowed 10/7 than anything related to 9/11 “trutherism.” Your options are that the Israeli government was either extremely arrogant and stupid, the official story, or that they allowed it to happen. I don’t really care which you you choose. I haven’t really “chosen” either narrative.

That’s about it. We’ll see what comes to light over the next couple of decades. I’m sure you would have demanded extraordinary evidence that wasn’t available to anyone at the time if they dared to suggest that the Gulf of Tonkin was a false flag. Or that 1/6 smelled of bullshit.

You and I are peasants. Demanding that I present “extraordinary” evidence that isn’t going to be in the public sphere to suggest something is what’s really moronic.

Here are the facts that we do know. Israeli intelligence produced a number of warnings that an attack was coming. They were warned by foreign governments that something big was coming. Not just coming, but pretty much all the exact details of the attack. And they chose to do absolutely nothing to protect themselves. And you people dare to suggest that I’m unstable or stupid for daring to suggest that more than incompetence was at play here?

There’s some stupidity here, but it comes from the people who defend the Israeli government to the death and give it the benefit of the doubt that wouldn’t give the same government they are more accustomed to dealing with.

It very well could be that Israel was just stupidly arrogant prior to 10/7. They engaged in hubris and really believed that Hamas didn’t want a full scale war with Israel. But it’s funny hearing the same people who claim that Hamas are blood thirsty savages who just want to see Jews die n every other context claim that the Israeli government thought there was just no way despite all of the intelligence leading up to it that Hamas would not launch that attack.

But I honestly don’t “know” anything here. And I certainly can’t prove it one way or the other. But yea, the situation stinks and it’s not stupid to suggest as much.

    • Tres Cool

I hear you still hate Jews. Is that true?

      • Brochettaward

Not to go too far into 9/11, but at the very least we know that the CIA was aware of the fact that the hijackers were in the U.S. prior to 9/11 and refused to share that information with the FBI. Zachariah Mossoui (however the hell you spell that) had his laptop siezed prior to 9/11 for going to flight school and not seeming interested in learning how to land got him investigated. The FISA court denied the FBI a warrant to search his laptop until after 9/11. (Since when has the FISA court not rubberstamped anything brought before them) When they did open search his laptop, there was enough info that they coukd have rolled up the entire plot before 9/11.

Make of all that what you will.

      • DEG

Tucker Carlson has a series on 9/11. He’s posting it on youtube. It’s five parts, the first three are out. The next two parts are going to come out over the next week or two.

He’s documented that the Feds (FBI, CIA, can’t remember the agency) knew something was coming in the lead up to 9/11. He’s moved into background on the CIA and Bin Laden. He’s documented two factions in the CIA. One that one wanted to go after Bin Laden in the 90s, and the other that nixed those plans. He claims the last two parts will document why and the tie-in with 9/11.

      • Brochettaward

I mean, 9/11 was explicitly predicted before it happened by some whack job proto-Alex Jones conspiracy theorist who was killed at his home just months later (which he also predicted).

      • Lachowsky

There is a lot to 9/11. The saudis almost certainly knew what was going on. Prince Bandar in particular. In our own government who knew what and when is pretty foggy, but i believe that if they were here to serve and protect as they claim, they could have stopped it. The hijackers motivations. U.S. support for Al Qaeda going all the way back to the soviet invasion of Afghanistan as a proxy in the cold war with the soviets and the Russian federation after they collapsed.

The truthers fuck it all up though by claiming a missile hit the pentagon, and that that there were no hijackers, or it was bombs that brought down the towers. All that shit is a distraction that for all i know was made up by the CIA to confuse the message so that anyone who really looks into it can be smeared as kook.

      • trshmnstr

I just watched the 3 released episodes of Tucker’s series on 9/11 last night. If even 1/3 of the shit that he says happened AFTER 9/11 was true, there should be a whole tranche of aging neocons making their final homes in federal prison. If even 10% of the pre-9/11 stuff is true, the same applies to a large stack of people from the Clinton and Bush admins, and likely Obama’s.

Oh, and there are no good guys in the Israel-Hamas conflict. I give Israel leeway in how they prosecute their siege because of 10/7, but I don’t trust that government for a half an instant. Theyre, at very best, just as skeevy and manipulative as our own.

      • trshmnstr

All that shit is a distraction that for all i know was made up by the CIA to confuse the message so that anyone who really looks into it can be smeared as kook.

the Israeli government was either extremely arrogant and stupid

I mean, why would they be different from every other government?

      • Brochettaward

They aren’t so I don’t rule out that they were just arrogant and stupid. But I also can’t rule out evil.

      • Ted S.

I can’t rule out evil; therefore they must be evil.

I can’t rule out stupid, even though it’s much more common in this sort of case; therefore it must not have been stupidity.

And no, I’m not singling you out.

For another point, suppose Mossad had information that Hamas were going to attack the Nova Music Festival, relayed that to the Israel government, and they tried to shut down the festival. How do you think the festival-goers would have reacted? They’re largely not the sort of people who would have voted in the current Israeli government; ditto the kibbutzim around the Gaza periphery, almost all of which voted for parties in the current opposition.

      • Brochettaward

I can’t rule out evil; therefore they must be evil.

No one said it “must be evil.” Merely suggested it’s a possibility that can’t be discounted. Numerous times. So the suggestion that I’m saying it definitely was allowed is the sort of mendacity I would expect from you in general having argued with you in the past.

      • Ted S.

I forgot to add that from what I’ve read heard, Hamas were not in fact targeting Nova; the attack just happened to coincide with the festival and was an opportunistic target for Hamas. So Mossad wouldn’t have had information about an attack there. It was more to argue that people who are going to stage a music festival on Shabbat and deliberately near Gaza as part of a message of peace aren’t likely to be the sort of people supporting a coalition with Haredi parties, and most likely are going to be pissed about being ordered to shut down.

      • Drake

I laughed the first time I heard the official narrative for 10-7 thinking it had to be a joke.

Their hippie festival equivalent to burning man got moved to the border at the last minute. (No biggie since nobody in the conservative government would have family attending) Their border police and local army units took the day off instead of being more vigilant. Then nobody noticed a convoy of vehicles and hajis flying in on ultralights… Until they were on the way out.

        Uh, okay. That’s a story.

    • (((Jarflax

I’m not demanding anything. You are free to spout whatever nonsense you want, and free to think I am hopelessly naive for thinking it is nonsense. I am saying you are not persuasive, and in fact sound very much like Adam Schiff with his mountains of evidence that somehow never get shown, or Candace Owens with her dream revelations and innuendo. When I say these claims require substantial NOT extraordinary evidence I am simply saying something that should be obvious to anyone, accusing someone of an extraordinarily evil act requires actual evidence, not innuendo in order to convince anyone who is not already looking to hate the subject.

And no one needs to ‘claim Hamas are blood thirsty savages who just want to see Jews die’ Hamas makes that quite clear in open statements, and by their actions. Even if your claims were completely true they would do nothing to excuse Hamas in any of this.

      • Brochettaward

And no one needs to ‘claim Hamas are blood thirsty savages who just want to see Jews die’ Hamas makes that quite clear in open statements, and by their actions.

Israeli government obviously disagrees with you seeing as how they thought there was no way they’d actually attack on 10/7.

Even if your claims were completely true they would do nothing to excuse Hamas in any of this.

Israel allowing it happen would not excuse Hamas from actually carrying out the attack. Never suggested as much and have in fact made the same point to people a lot more convinced that Israel allowed it to happen than I am.

You refuse to even engage with what I typed. What do you want? The NYT’s story spelling out for you how much Israeli intelligence knew and when they knew it? Reports from Israel’s own media? That is evidence whether you like to admit it or not.

      • Ted S.

        It’s possible to believe:

        a) Hamas are blood thirsty savages who just want to see Jews die, and
        b) Israel believed Hamas didn’t have the capability to attack on October 7.

      • Brochettaward

The characterizations of the Israeli assessment went beyond just capabilities and into motives, but it’s really besides the point. Israel felt Hamas did not want to engage Israel at that point in time which would at least to me demonstrate a bit more strategic thinking than the caricature of Hamas that gets passed around on here quite frequently with no push back. And I include myself in that because I don’t give a single fuck about the Palestinians.

And I kind of have to just laugh at the suggestion above that because the music festival was staged by people who wouldn’t react kindly to it being cancelled by the current Israeli government that they were somehow scared or what have you to cancel it. The attack led to a pretty serious war that ostensibly Israel did not want. They were more scared of pissing off some 20-something year olds who wouldn’t vote for them anyway rather than trying to prevent that war? That’s some pretty shitty calculus if their reaction ever even factored into the equation.

      • Shpip

        I’m typically a “cock-up over conspiracy” dude.

For instance, when Matias Rust made his flight into Red Square back in 1987, it was during the Soviet Union’s Border Guards’ Day, and lots of the air defense staff was off partying (Rust was spotted, but for various reasons, not shot down).

Similarly, October 7 ’23 was Simchat Torah in Israel, a joyous celebration that saw the IDF mostly standing down. Hamas knew this and planned their attack accordingly (unlike Rust, who was merely lucky). Having the music festival nearby just gave Hamas the opportunity to increase the body count.

It’s likely that every military debacle since Waterloo has had its share of conspiracy theories (Pearl Harbor, anyone?), when it’s usually just a cascade of errors that was, fortuitously or not, exploited by the other side.

She understood that her former employer could fire her for any reason, but she feels frustrated that it happened — in her view — because of an online pressure campaign backed by people with political power. “I don’t think that was ever what the standard issue response was.”

    Trump considering pardons

President Donald Trump on Monday said he’d consider a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker who conspired with the president’s late friend, pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, to traffic and abuse minor girls in multiple states.

He also said he’d been asked for a pardon by Sean “Diddy” Combs, the hip-hop mogul who was sentenced to more than four years in federal prison following a federal prostitution conviction last week.

Speaking in the Oval Office during an event on approving a new mining road in Alaska, Trump was asked whether he’d consider clemency for Maxwell, a British socialite who was indicted on sex trafficking charges after Epstein, who once described himself as Trump’s best friend, hanged himself in a New York detention cell while awaiting trial on similar charges in 2019.

“You know, I haven’t heard the name in so long. I can say this, that I’d have to take a look at it. I would have to take a look,” Trump said.

He then said he would have to “speak to the DOJ” and stressed that he did not know “anything” about the matter despite the case dominating headlines for months over a bipartisan effort to force release of case files from the Justice Department’s attempt to prosecute Epstein.

    • Lachowsky

I will never forgive Trump for continuing the Biden administration’s policy of covering for child rapists.

      • Suthenboy

I dont know about the Diddy girls. I think the Epstein girls went into it fully aware of what they were getting into. One of the Epstein girls decided to go because her friend told her you go to the island, fuck a couple of old dudes and you get a couple thousand dollars. You will be home by Monday.
        The ‘victim’ was 17.

I’ve made similar arguments about the Epstein girls, but even noting that some broken and damaged teenage girls may have went their willingly makes people instantly leap to the notion that you are defending Epstein for being a dirtbag.

But the case is not actually pedophilia and I’m skeptical of just how many of the teen girls were actually “trafficked.”

President Donald Trump received a Covid vaccine and flu shot during his visit to Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, his physician said in a memo released by the White House.

    Day of shame and infamy

Critics and advocates like Kerri Malloy, a professor of Native American and Indigenous Studies at San José State University, have challenged Columbus Day and Columbus’ legacy. He says Columbus’ arrival to the Americas “triggered a mass genocide of Indigenous people throughout the Western hemisphere,” which included deadly diseases being spread among them, their land being stolen and being forced into Christianity.

Thursday’s proclamation does not mention Indigenous Peoples Day, but it accuses “left-wing arsonists” of trying to “destroy [Columbus’] name and dishonor his memory.”

“as is my custom to judge the brewery by how they make a Pils”

Indeed. The margin of error is very small. You do need to be able to concentrate on it, though, as they are easy to guzzle.

RC, I just got back from your neck of the arroyo. I was out there for a pair of funerals and started house hunting.

The moment I arrived I knew that I gotta return to my Pima County roots.

I understand RC’s house is on the market. There you go!

        Sorry, already sold.

go take a piss, grab some food, refill your beer and by the time you’re done the teams are taking the field for the second half.

Easy enough to do in a regular season game, where halftime is thirteen minutes. For the Super Bowl, the league more than doubles the length of halftime.

And we Glibs (just spitballin’ here, but I’m guessing we’re mostly white dudes with a median age north of fifty) are not the target demographic for the entertainment any more.

Jay-Z’s Roc Music had a five year deal with the NFL to provide the headliners, and just renewed for another five years last October. Which is why most of us couldn’t pick the entertainment out of a police lineup (but would be utterly unsurprised to see them there):

Under the partnership with Roc Nation, Super Bowl halftime headliners have included: Shakira and Jennifer Lopez; The Weeknd; Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak; Rihanna; and, most recently, Usher, who was joined by Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris.

Super Bowl parties have become a cultural touchstone in and of themselves. Guys watch the game and drink too much, their wives watch the commercials and try Bettyann’s Buffalo chicken dip recipe, and the kids play in the yard until dark, then play video games in a spare room. But the NFL is looking toward a younger, duskier demo for their eyeballs now. That’s who’s going to be buying the cars, beer, and boner pills for the next few decades. And the halftime entertainment reflects this.

The game itself barely has any relevance, the “entertainment” is just following suit.

      • Shpip

True enough. Hell, the fanbases of thirty other teams don’t really care about the outcome, unless they really hate that one of their rivals gets the parade.

The NFL team that I follow hasn’t been good in more than three decades, so I never really care who wins (as long as it’s not the fucking Cowboys — and it won’t be).

I just love how I am supposed to be overwhelmed with sorrow and pity for federal government workers whose cushy sinecures have been disrupted.

    • dbleagle

Yeahhhhh about that. I don’t recall sympathy from the Fed workers during the Covid economic collapse, biden cancelling various energy projects, or routine business layoffs and bankruptcy proceedings- just to mention recent events.

It pisses me off that they get a paid vacation and expect sympathy. I hope OMB ramps up the layoffs during this shutdown. It is a prime chance to nearly zero out entire agencies and a Department or two.
