      • UnCivilServant

Unless you’re lobbing weapons of mass destruction, the distance makes it out of range, since the time from firing to impact means the target will have moved. It is only useful if you are willing to destroy whole cities, though denying it to those who are willing to destroy whole cities is a good idea.

      • Not Adahn

See, I’m not the biggest fan of FPSs. Especially since my favorite FO1 and 2 builds involved the sniper perk. Unless there is some sort of auto-aiming going on that perks influence.

      • UnCivilServant

They nerfed VATS in 4 so that it doesn’t pause time anymore, just slows it down.

No auto aim on just shooting, perks influence the damage done.

      • Nephilium

        NA:

FO4 gutted the entire skill and perk system. There are no skills, instead there’s just perks, which you unlock by raising your SPECIAL scores, and then purchase with level ups. Instead of aiming boosts, there’s sway reduction, smaller splash zone, and higher damage.

      • CPRM

You can play in 3rd person. I do that mostly. Except in cramped spaces.

    • Nephilium

As much as a quarter of the active US navy is now in the Caribbean

Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro faces his biggest challenge yet after US President Donald Trump announced a blockade of the South American nation’s sanctioned oil exports, but Washington will probably need military action to oust the long-ruling autocrat, experts said.

Trump declared Maduro’s revolutionary socialist government a foreign terrorist organisation on Tuesday and vowed “a total and complete blockade” of oil tankers subject to US sanctions heading to or from Venezuela.

Sanctions rarely work on their own, but here’s hoping.

      • WTF

    Shepherding our tax dollars

In 2022, Canoo Technologies Inc. was contracted to supply three EV vans, listed as “Artemis Crew Transportation Vehicles.”

These fully electric vans were supposed to be environmentally friendly and would not produce emissions as they would take Artemis astronauts to the Space Launch Systems rocket to the moon.

According to the contract, it cost NASA $147,855 for the three vehicles.

Boise has implemented a new Slow Zone Pilot Program, reducing the default driving speed to 20 miles per hour citywide unless otherwise posted.

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) announced that starting in January, roads within the perimeter of Fourth Street to 28th and from State Street to Hill Road will see speed limits lowered from 25 mph to 20 mph. New flags will be placed at marked crossings on Harrison Boulevard, and Slow Zone signs will be installed throughout the neighborhood.

Officials said this initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. The program’s outcomes will be closely monitored to ensure safer neighborhoods across Boise.

This is necessary to reduce the the massive horrible toll of pedestrian deaths every day.

Thank Frau Doktor Jill for wanting to stay at the apex of the D.C. social scene for another four years.

By the time that Joe was exposed as senile in a way that couldn’t be swept under the rug, campaign finance laws meant that only Harris could use the billion-dollar war chest for the campaign.

And as soon as Harris opened her mouth, people grokked that she was a moron, even by politician standards.

Couple that with the disastrous effects of letting progressives run amok in the West Wing for four years, and it’s remarkable that the race was as close as it turned out to be (well, letting California stuff ballots for a month to bring up her totals made it seem close, too).

Walls is the 19th inmate to be executed in Florida this year, obliterating the state’s previous annual high of eight executions. He’s also the 47th inmate executed in the nation, a number not seen since 2009.

SLD about capital punishment, but I’m not losing any sleep about that guy not sharing oxygen with us anymore. Damn shame that it took the better part of forty years, though.

    Anti-Christ-in-Chief

So why is Trump pushing vice? Probably because it both fits his worldview and is viewed as smart politics. As Manhattan Institute scholar Charles Fain Lehman recently noted, “Trump, in a second term, looks likely to go further than in his first in dumping many traditional Republican policies. In particular, Mr. Trump seems willing, even eager, to embrace vice.”

Lehman added that Trump’s positions appear to be “part of a calculated effort to turn out young men, who, surveys suggest, helped propel him to victory.”

Still, if you’re a Trump-voting dad, or a traditional or social conservative worried about what kind of world your kids are inheriting, it’s fair to ask: What, exactly, did we win if winning the White House translates to losing our kids?

Trump is the Great Corruptor. Or something.

The concern is that these companies could avoid oversight by labeling themselves “AI companies” — talk about unintended consequences.”

They were so accommodating for so long especially for severely disabled children and that kindness was completely taken advantage of.

      • The Other Kevin

For sure. Part of why I liked the Disney parks so much is that I’ve been going for over 40 years, and the entire time they have been the gold standard for accommodation. But even in the 80’s we saw people putting their kids in wheelchairs instead of strollers to take advantage of that.

Recently they made major changes that mean you can’t get any of those accommodations unless you have autism or PTSD or something like that. One of my teammates goes often and he’s not at all happy about it either.

I’m convinced that the ‘gamified’ aspects of practical shooting competition, are a big part of the reason why competitive shooters generally wipe their asses with even professional ‘tactical’ shooters.

      • Nephilium

        EvilSheldon:

True. For personal things, gamification can work quite well. I know there’s quite a few gamification apps out there specifically designed around building good habits. The flip side is people learning the ways to cheat the systems, thinking they’re getting better at the underlying details, when they’re really getting better at navigating the gaming systems put in place.

    High crimes

First, by law, federal agencies that “originate (plans) for proposed developments and projects” that “affect the plan and development of the National Capital” must consult with the National Capital Planning Commission “before” preparing construction plans. Trump did not. By law, agencies intending to undertake development of construction projects in the capital district are also required to seek the advice of the Commission on Fine Arts. Again, Trump did not. Nor did Trump, as required by the National Environmental Protection Act, prepare and release an environmental impact statement on the proposed ballroom, with opportunity for public comment.

Over and above that, the brief notes that Trump’s ballroom project violates the Constitution, which, in its Property Clause, places exclusive authority over federal property with Congress. The law is clear. Only Congress can authorize the construction or destruction of federal buildings. Yet when it comes to Trump’s ballroom, Congress was never consulted. Members found out about it the same way all the rest of us did: by seeing images of the demolished East Wing on television. “In usurping the role ascribed to Congress via the Property Clause,” concludes the Historical Trust’s brief, “he has violated the separation of powers.”

    Off with his head.

I wrote an article not too long ago about Spart DEKA (their version of a CrossFit competition). We’re hosting our first one in February. Half of our business is cardo/HIIT classes, and we’ve been encouraging those members to sign up. They all say it’s “too hard”. But two weeks ago our oldest member, who is almost 70, told us she wants to try. Our coaches have been helping her train. For her age group, there are lighter weights and some modifications, so she should be slow but she’ll make it. It’s been funny to point out to those other members that our oldest is going to do it. What exactly is your excuse again? LOL

And speaking of no excuses, Scott Adams did his livestream from a hospital bed again this morning. Just in time for the new year, I’m seeing a little theme.

Chaos erupted in a King County courtroom on Thursday during the high-profile Mays v. Energy analyst Robert Bryce calculates that nixing Ivanpah could save ratepayers about $100 million a year. No matter, say the energy regulators who work for Gov. Gavin Newsom.
