The stupidest people in the country are losing faith in the system, and you’re blackpilling?
This is my Review of American Solera Nightmare Black IPA:

Okay there was never faith in the system, otherwise “our democracy” would never be code for “my hegemony.” (TW: Newsweek)
The only thing that can save the United States from Donald Trump is time itself, and that alone should be unforgivable in a nation founded on the principles of checks and balances. The oldest serving president in the history of our republic is now more beholden to decades of consuming copious amounts of McDonald’s and KFC than he is to the people who either elected him to office a second time or enabled it to happen. Fool me once, shame on you.
Man, why do you have to bring the clown into this? Did you not like the toy in your happy meal?
Over the last 30 days alone, Trump ordered a military invasion of Venezuelawithout Congress and removed their president under the false pretense of policing drug cartels. The operation was driven by oil, and he is now funneling money from Venezuelan oil sales into a bank account in Qatar.
He made it clear that he intends to invade Greenland, effectively placing the United States on a dangerous collision course with NATO.
He invited Vladimir Putin onto his so-called board of peace to oversee the rebuilding of Gaza.
You know they used to do that whole slush fund thing in secret, right? At least he’s open about what he did with the money,
He flooded Minneapolis with ICE agents who are killing people and is preparing to send in 1,500 U.S. soldiers to escalate the situation further while threatening to impose the Insurrection Act.
He continues to stonewall the public while his complicit Department of Justice sits on the Epstein files.
He added his own name to the Kennedy Center, a memorial to John F. Kennedy, after anointing himself chairman of the board.
He’s openly suggested that we cancel the 2026 midterm elections twice.
He fell asleep at least twice on live TV and then claimed he was just blinking.
He was given yet another cognitive test that he now brags about as if we should not all be alarmed by how frequently he is being asked to take them.
I really wish these guys were half as awesome as pearl clutching shitlibs make them out to be.
We did not cross this threshold led by a brilliant tyrant or a disciplined strongman, but by a spoiled heir who wandered into power already steeped in corruption from birth and simply kept advancing forward because no one was willing or able to stop him. This is the most humiliating part of our nation’s collapse.

The best part about Joe Biden shitting himself at the D-Day Memorial, was Macron running around doing damage control like a gay.wedding planner.
Here is an appropriate tune for todays installment. I truly enjoyed this beer. Its every bit the excess in every facet to suit my personality. Why did they stop making these? I can’t be that unusual, after all I like Avenge Sevenfold. Its hoppy, its malty, its burned sugar, its 7% alcohol so it hit the sweet spot between getting plastered and watching gun videos in YouTube, but having the mental clarity to stop short of watching gunsmithing videos on YouTube. IYkYK. American Solera Nightmare Black IPA: 3.95/5 7.0% abv

Oh, no. NATO will crush us.
Lunchroom yesterday:
Coworker 1: what were leaving WHO?
Coworker 2: what in the world. That seems like a bad idea
Coworker 3: well we’re leaving NATO next.
Coworker 4: so we’ll be attacked?!?!
People are too politically stupid to engage so I just sat there eating my sandwich and pretending I wasn’t hearing such stupid statements
“NATO will crush us.” That’s especially rich.

I’m assuming they did not use a solera method for a Black IPA? At least I really hope they didn’t.
I currently have sour ales dating back to 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023 (all in carboys) that I need to start blending and get my soleras going.
I know a couple of the homebrew clubs around here got a solera started a while back. I don’t know if they’ve been able to keep it going.
Solera? You need an egregore to start one of those!
simply kept advancing forward because no one was willing or able to stop him. This is the most humiliating part of our nation’s collapse.
Your team can’t puke up a better alternative. You really should be ashamed.
Blue’s bench is so empty, Newsom likely *is* the best they can realistically offer for 2028. That’s gotta burn, but they don’t have time to rectify that. Their base has stewed on coattails for decades. Newscum kicked out of the USA Pavilion was an especially nice touch.
JFK; Bill Clinton; Obama –> LBJ, Gore, Biden. Ouch. I will say, Bill was at least pretty damn good at his job as a politician. (Him not doing much after ’94, end of the Cold War and rise of the internet… he was fantastically seated at a *really* good time.)
Thanks, Newt.
For all of our sakes, I truly hope Newsom is not our next president.
It’s him or someone worse.
Spanberger is being groomed to run. The leftist legislature will puke up a slew of lunatic bills, and she’ll veto a few of them for cred as a “moderate”.
As an aside, it’s depressing how when the left wins control, they have a big pile of bills ready to roll, and they slam them through. When the normies win, they sit on their fucking thumbs. But vote Republican! Even harder this time!
As I recall Machiavelli specifically instructed “Have no shame”.

It’s an IPA so I’ll pass.
I’ll note that you didn’t say anything about bidding on GunBroker.
Sure, but it identifies as a stout.
/pushes up beer geek glasses
One of the first examples of what would later be called the Black IPA was Avery’s New World Porter. At the time it was billed as an American Hopped Porter.
Avery’s New World Porter
I think I tried that. If it is the one I’m thinking of, despite it being over-hopped, it was not bad.
I defer to your expertise Neph. As a short bus rider, I can only say IPAs taste terrible (to me). Maybe whatever makes it dark changes the flavor.
Chafed:
Not saying you should like it, and if you don’t like the pine and resin of Washington hops, you probably won’t like it. Just having fun with the thin difference between a stout and a porter.
The roasted note does mellow out the bitterness a bit, and adds some depth. But it’s still going to be high on IBU/OG ratio, and bitter overall.
I know both this toll and these types of drivers.
https://x.com/wakeupnj/status/2015028137634025944?s=20
Parkway going onto 78? I’ve taken the NJTP to 78 West and this doesn’t look familiar to me.
NH is getting rid of toll booths because of wrecks like this and worse.
Kudos to NH.
Toll booths here in New York were removed several years back and replaced with toll gantries.
They’ve removed the tollbooths at many of the larger interchanges of the PA Turnpike. Like at exit 326 in Montgomery County. Gets confusing when one is used to start slowing down for the booths and then suddenly realize WTF I just passed my off-ramp! Forty years of driving habit down the drain.
I don’t think Ive ever driven on a toll road.
I’ve driven over one tolled bridge and one that was going to be a toll bridge.
Kudos to NH.
It’s taken a long time. I go through that toll booth every now and then. Progress is slow but there are signs that it should be done in the Spring. Probably, given weather, mid-Spring is my guess.
PA is also removing toll booths. The toll booths were OK back in the day when you had to come to a complete stop and traffic was lighter than today, but now where you don’t stop and traffic being heavier, some of those old booths are dangerous.
Like at exit 326 in Montgomery County.
Valley Forge?
That’s high on my list of sucky PA tollbooths. The road crews were still working to remove it the last time I was down. It was just about done from what I remember.
It’s completely gone now? Good.
The best part is that he took the time to call them morons as he passed them.
That’s the kind of Jersey thoughtfulness I miss.
Two of four vehicle started this morning. Time to find the battery charger.
I didn’t try since I’m not going anywhere, other than the woodshed. The garage keeps the temps about 20-30 degrees warmer, that’s a big difference in this weather.
I have built in chargers in several of mine.
I ordered a solar panel and a charger for the far flung ones. It hasent showed up yet.
The new battery tender branded ones I have when not plugged into 115v discharge the battery while the 20 year old ones I have don’t. That pisses me off. There is no need for them to have an LED on them drawing power when not plugged in.
I’m a fan of the Battery Minder brand of desulfating trickle chargers. They really work to rejuvenate old but not dead yet batteries. The one issue I have with them is that they continue to desulfate when the AC power is off. I once hooked one up to my boat’s starter battery and later my brother disconnected it by unplugging it from the extension cord. The next time we wanted to go fishing the battery was completely drained.
This is the one that drains my battaries if I don’t unplug it. https://www.batterytender.com/products/5amp-selectable-weatherresistant-batterycharger
The square one that this model replaced didn’t do that, you could leave it attached to the battaries and it could sit all summer long and be fine.
With the price of battaries and how many I have now I try to keep them alive for a long time.
One of my generators and my bulldozer don’t have batteries in them anymore. It’s not worth buying four more 4Ds just to have them die.
The projection in that article is strong.
I like Black IPAs.
Is it fizzy, though? It looks kind of fizzy in the picture.
A survival report from North Nowhere Vermont, whether you want it or not.
-11F this morning and now a balmy perfect 0F. Unremarkable for late January. I don’t bother trying to start my Honda side-by-side ATV when it’s that cold so I’m staying in the cabin keeping the wood stove on simmer. It’s sunny so the battery bank is full and I’m burning excess free electricity from the sun by running the overhead ceiling fan to spread the interior warmth around.
The NWS forecast is for -11F again tonight and then the snow starts with five to eleven inches total predicted through Monday. Also unremarkable for late January. I’m prepared to take tomorrow off as well but will go into town Monday despite the NWS’s stern anti-travel advisory. You can’t tell me what to do.
Burrrr
0 F before windchill here in southern NH when I got up.
8 F when I went to the grocery store this morning. The store was surprisingly calm and quiet.
The forecasters were split between 10-15″ and 12-18″ for this area.
I was just reading more huffing and puffing about BigEvilOil. I’ll spare you, mostly.
We have to leave that filthy Venezuelan oil in the ground. We subsidize oil to the tune of trillions of dollars. That’s why it can compete with clean renewable wind and solar. Blah blah blah et c.
I can’t help thinking if we had “nurtured” computers as we have nurtured clean energy tech we’d still be using punch cards.
Anyone believes oil is subsidized and not taxed should qualify for MAID
I’ll tearfully wave goodbye to most of Canada.
I went to college in 1980 and there were still card punch machines in the dorm computer rooms although the newfangled IBM 3270 terminals were much more popular. Accounts on the school’s monster IBM 370 had credits denominated in dollars and the least expensive way of running your FORTRAN program was to feed a deck into the computer center’s card reader. You waited a few minutes and a printout would be placed on the printout rack.
I remember all that from my computer programming period of the late 70’s.
Wow. Subsidized. Who knew?
Here we go again…

I think I’m suffering from Minneapolis fatigue. (With all respect to the several fine Minnesodans who post here.)
It’s ok, I just heard it was a white male.
Fighting for which side?
I need to know before I can form the correct opinion.
It was a commie with a nice gun.
At least the story ends on a high note. “Federal officers wielded batons and deployed flash bangs on the crowd.”
He was just dropping his kids off at school?
You fuckwit’s commie revolution is going to fail. Come to terms with it. Go home.
62° and cloudy here. Why don’tcha all come over?
🏃🏻♀️➡️
62° and cloudy here.
22 and sunny now. And it’s not California.
27 or so here.
I need to work outside.
Not my favorite temperature to do trouble shooting.
Putting off the outside work. If it gets above freezing, maybe garage stuff. At least it’s dry.
Are you in LA, TOG?
San Diego
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara is uring people to remain peaceful and not to destroy the city after federal immigration officers shot and killed a man Saturday in Minneapolis.
Let ‘er rip, peace loving peoples.
The takeover at MSP shows that we are not shooting enough protesters yet.
I missed that story. What happened?
-1 useful idiot
https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/clergy-members-arrested-minneapolis-st-paul-international-airport/
Union members also said 12 airport workers have been arrested by ICE.
Protesters sang and prayed together while sharing the stories of people who have been detained by ICE. During the protest, roughly 100 clergy members were arrested, organizers said.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission said it worked in advance with event organizers and provided a permit that determined a maximum number of protesters who could attend. The number of people in attendance “went beyond the agreed-upon terms,” MAC said.
That’s insane. Were they given a permit to protest inside the airport?
Come on Minneapolis workers! I triple dog dare you to rise against the Federal government today. Nay, right this moment! Fight OMB in the churches, at the airport, sitting on bridge across ol’ man river! Do it now and raise the ghosts of the Iron Brigade!
(Who will promptly kick all their asses.)
31F. Wood stove is earning its keep.
Y’all. No. C’mon now.
That looks like a standard snow belt winter to me.
#metoo
Yes. Which is why I roll my eyes so hard at the proliferation of snowpocalypses. This is in 1979.
All projection all of the time.
They are still acting like they have some kind of credibility. I suspect even the choir is on to them, they just like it that way.
I have a couple of relatives that despise Trump but can never tell me why.
“But I like his economic policies”
“Well dummy, that is the only thing that counts”
Upon which he started another tirade on why Trump is so despicable. I guess he wants Biden back. *facepalm*
I know several folks like that: “his policies aren’t awful but it is the way he presents them.” Maybe the 25th should be invoked and Vance seated: he has much the same policies but doesn’t come across as a buffoon, a bully, and a 24 karat asshole. (Though, to be sure, he’d be portrayed as Hitler 3.0 the second he took the oath.)
Hes already being prepped by the media, little Hitler
You don’t say.
I think BB covered it pretty well.
“the false pretense of policing drug cartels”
I have little doubt that Maduro was in bed with the cartels.
“He intends to invade Greenland”
No he didn’t. And, in fact, he didn’t.
“ He invited Vladimir Putin onto his so-called board of peace to oversee the rebuilding of Gaza.”
The BoP’s charter is much broader than that, and it’s pretty clear he’s trying build an alternative to the UN. And why wouldn’t you want the guy currently running the biggest war on the planet at the table, anyway?
“his complicit Department of Justice sits on the Epstein files”
We still talking about Trump?
With that, I’m tapping out.
The Board of Peace looks like a grift to me. Don is a master at stirring up chaos and destroying things. I say that as a compliment. A president needs to be to do those things. However, when it comes to building an institution, he appears to be useless.
Another good shoot by ice. 🙄
Starting to sleet. Last load of clothes is in the laundry. Picked up a few more gallons of gas for the generator. About to get in the sauna.
I’m as ready as possible for the ice apocalypse.
Temp peaking now at 13 (feels like 2), snow to start at 7ish and coldest temps at 9 (-4) today. Tomorrow lows predicted at 9 (-10) tomorrow.
Oooh. The babiest of flurries are swaying ’round, now.
Car’s engine light went on again. Went to AutoZone for an OBD scanner; turns out to be the catalytic converter again. Helpful chap suggested it could just be shitty gas goin’ in. Not 87 grade, etc, but rather *where* the game came from, saying Shell’s usually good about their mix. I pretty much only use the nearby Circle K, so that’s a possibility, though I’m unconcerned, regardless.
Check. Engine. Light. Not ‘Icky Emissions’ Light. Grrrgle.
Also on (my own) topic: After my little accident hitting a curb ‘totaled’ my ’13 Chevy, my insurance premiums have doubled. Gonna shop around and see if there’s anything to be done. I’ve slid off a slushy road into a ditch once, and this one. Never hit a car nor have I been hit by one (when driving a car). I rather hope that continues!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv096JL-LOk
Couldn’t hurt. Might work. Techron is good stuff.
What goes into that engine matters. Thinking I was being preventative, about a year ago every other tank in the Tracker Testarossa™, Id add a bottle of injector cleaner.
Then noticed that Id often get a check engine light and a code for the catalyst. Stopped adding the cleaner….no more light.
I almost always buy Top Tier….usually at Meijer.
Techron is widely regarded as the go to choice.
Regardless, every other tank would be waaaaay too often for anything.
https://www.toptiergas.com/
Lowered deductible? 🤷🏻♀️
*uh, raised 🤦🏻♀️
Six months from State Farm went from $325.43 to $631.87.
Cursory inputs show I ‘could’ go to Geico for $209 or Progressive for $245. The car is “owned” and I pay my ‘rents back, which may be helping. I also have only been in that one accident against a curb. I’m feeling slightly better about this.
Good tip on Toptiergas.com. I’m not concerned about my catalytic converter, but I would much rather than damn light weren’t on. But I cleared the codes there, so that’s taken care of for now.
Lots of sleet here now. Daughter tried to play in it like snow and quickly found out that sleet sucks.

WTF?
Finger lickin’ good ?
Media feeding frenzy
Gregory Bovino, U.S. Border Patrol commander, on Thursday defended his trench coat after California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) accused him of buying “SS garb.”
——-
The New York Times reported on Bovino’s coat Thursday, calling it “a flashpoint in the online conversation about ICE, in part because its historical antecedents are also impossible to ignore.” Online discourse has echoed Newsom’s remarks, comparing the coat to attire worn by uniformed Nazi officers under Adolf Hitler’s reign less than a century ago.
Hitler invented the trenchcoat.
Nazis everywhere!
Princeton University history professor Harold James told the newspaper that Bovino’s attire is “intended to intimidate and also provoke.”
“Using the coat to confront crowds with armed supporters, together with Bovino’s cropped hair and the (apparently) black or dark clothing underneath, gives the unmistakable whiff of dictators and of the 1930s,” James said.
The coat looms.
