Exciting days here in the Gulch. Every little village needs a crazy guy wandering the streets. In our case, it’s the son of a professor, the latter notorious for her rather eccentric behavior (like hitting on me). He was trespassed from our little business a year or so back in lieu of us pressing charges when we caught him stealing a vape pen. He decided on yesterday for his grand and unwelcome return. 10b0t expressed the unwelcome nature of his visit in a polite but firm manner. Hi-jinx ensued, which involved the crazy guy throwing various objects, both breakable and unbreakable, in 10b0t’s direction while screaming, “FUCK YOU, FAGGOT!” 10b0t was unamused, especially when the credit card reader connected with his forehead. Fortunately, 10b0t’s brain is a vestigial and non-functioning organ, so the joke was on the crazy guy. The police chief arrived shortly thereafter (he’s banging the deputy mayor and got his job by ousting the previous chief), viewed security videos, then rounded up the well-known perp. I suspect his mom will be calling me begging to not press charges just as she did when we caught him stealing.
Fortunately, WebDom did not have her carry with her, otherwise there would have been a multiply-perforated perp on the floor, not a positive for business in this little village.
Birthdays today include a guy whose reputation got some traction; a writer whose work had a twist; a libertarian pioneer; the answer to most people’s first question about genetics; a guy who was actually hit by Dreiser; the Pride of Baltimore; a guy whose pole was stable; the brilliant man who inspired CPRM; a guy who was a major contributor to the ruination of country music; proof that comedians don’t have to be funny; and the poor man’s Keanu Reeves.
And here are some Links that are well chosen.
I just have the urge to slap someone and scream, “STAY THE FUCK OUT OF IT!”
Laser pointer, cats. Let’s make sure that attention is focused on stupid shit, not anything important. (Non-paywall version)
More laser pointer, cats. But even stupider.
Expect preferential treatment for Diet Coke next.
“We just need to explain things better to those dumb rubes.” A proven winning strategy.
The recent opening of a Taco Bell is purely a coincidence.
Pie will attest that all kinds of shit can happen at bars’ closing times.
This is going to be a long one, sorry. But this is something with which I’ve got a longtime professional connection and how I make my living these days, so I can give some of the backstory: It starts with the scare 40-odd years ago concerning CFCs and the ozone layer. I was a chemistry grad student at the time and was rather skeptical of the claims. But evidence piled up that CFCs really were having a deleterious effect, and the data are what the data are. The solutions came with some reformulated fluorocarbons for aerosol propellants, refrigerants, and foaming agents. The new ones were more expensive and less efficient, but they didn’t punch holes in the ozone layer and were thus legally mandated. Perhaps not coincidentally, this also provided a windfall for the two companies that developed and patented the alternatives and thus had a monopoly (well, a duopoly) on those markets.
But like life itself, patents have an expiration, and as that day of reckoning neared, the two companies wondered, what can we do to keep this gravy train rolling? The new panic by then was Global Warming, so via carefully directed government research grants (I note that one of the companies was deeply in bed with Senator-For-Life Biden), it was suddenly announced that the replacement fluorocarbons had a high “Global Warming Potential” which of course must be dealt with (irrespective of the tiny impact from the overall usage). And lo and behold, they had just patented a new set of replacement fluorocarbons with reduced GWP, which again were more expensive and less efficient than the miracle substances that they replaced. A complete coincidence. Of course, the new materials were legally mandated and the older materials whose patent terms were running out were banned. A new windfall! The cynical among us might note that the reduced efficiency of the newer fluorocarbons for insulation and refrigeration meant an increase in CO2 emissions elsewhere from increased use of fuels and electricity, but these are things we don’t consider in legislative responses to well-publicized panics.
Inevitably, the patents on the latest generation of materials are starting to expire, leading to the question of, what contemporary panic can be brought to bear to move to the next gravy train? And here we are, the current panic about “forever chemicals” is a perfect excuse! Prediction: the new patents will be announced over the next two years along with the concomitant legislation banning the last generation and mandating the new one. Which will give the two large companies 20 more years to think up the next panic for fun and profit… And of course, the new ones will be yet further less efficient and more expensive. The saddest part is that I won’t be around to profit from that as I have been from today’s materials. But I have hope for the next generation of scientific grifters.
When up and coming American jazz stars do Japan tours, they’re usually with pickup bands for financial reasons. And that’s OK, we’re here to see the star, the rest of the band just needs to be tight and skilled. Now, Pat Bartley is definitely a star, probably the greatest living alto player, and cuts like this prove it. But every once in a while, there’s a surprise in that box of Crackerjacks. And this time, a pretty fine pianist as well, who absolutely kills it on a notoriously difficult classic, one that infamously stumped the great pianist Tommy Flanagan. The Old Guy just loves this shit.

Happy birthday Charles Goren!

The best Giant Steps
That is impressively heinous – well done.
Different giant steps.
I would have thought it was the sort of 80s music you love.
You don’t know me at all!
/runs crying from chat room
I will freely admit that my knowledge of Chemistry is at the survey course level, but doesn’t the fact that the chemicals last forever imply that they are inert and by extension not doing anything all that bad?
Helium is inert, but but enough of it can kill you.
SHHHHH!!!!!!!!
These are the same people that use really long half-lives as scare tactics for radiation, remember.
This line of argument has never really made sense to me. There are plenty of things that are ‘inert’ in the sense they will stay in the environment for a very long period of time but that doesn’t mean they are harmless to you. If one takes the term ‘forever chemical’ and takes it to mean it doesn’t interact with anything ever, then there’s some point to the ‘inert’ argument. But something can be long lived in the environment and is fine as long as it stays there undisturbed – did someone say ‘asbestos’ – but can cause significant harm is it makes its way into our food system or respiratory systems.
“Forever Chemicals” – don’t expect media or retards to be precise with their language. And authoritarian retards can sometimes stumble onto real issues (not claiming this is, don’t know enough about the topic, just objecting to facile argumentation), even if their rationale or understanding or solutions are, well, retarded.
That’s certainly true, but if the ‘forever chemicals’ were say heavy metals and getting into our food supply I would expect the articles to read “Heavy Metal Contamination of Food” not forever chemicals in the environment. The forever chemicals language is specifically used to create fear based on the longevity of the substance in the absence of any specific harm they can use to scare people. When there is specific harm they tout that loudly, even if it is minimally supported.
Asbestos’s effect is mechanical rather than chemical.
“Forever chemicals” has become more of a slogan referring to ANY fluorocarbon- the ones that truly are “forever” like PTFE are extremely non-toxic, the ones that are extremely toxic like PFOA are very much not “forever.” It’s a perfect guilt-by-association and a great way to perform eco-grift by putting a scare into people about perfectly useful and safe materials.
Asbestos’s effect is mechanical rather than chemical.
As I said, don’t expect precision in language; hell you can’t even expect that in the scientific literature anymore.
To re-iterate, I’m not endorsing the current panic, nor absolving it of it’s potentially grifting roots. I’m objecting the equally facile statements along the lines of “if it’s forever [using a literal meaning], how can it be harmful?” to dismiss questions that should be asked and put to rest – properly – if the issue has no merit. Your characterization is a start in that direction – and I’ll bet you a lot of people expressing concern don’t know the difference between PTFE and PFOA. PTFE obviously ‘wears off’ as any one using non-stick stuff knows, so it’s a natural question of “where does i go? Why does it ‘wear’ off? What does it do if it’s going into the body? Excreted directly? Remain inert in very different, very complex system?” And don’t be surprised when it takes a bit of convincing – people have been lied to for a very long time about knowledge of long term effects and safety of all kinds of things that they were told not to worry about.
I started buying more R134a from time to time when I heard about the global warming potential scam.
I remember the R12 ban. It did nothing. But was a hustle. R12 systems ran cooler. R134a systems seem to have higher failure rates as well. I’ll occasionally cut up a car from the 70s that still has a full charge in it while those I’ve cut up from the late 90s are bone dry.
Last two were camper ACs from 1976 that I wish o had the recovery equipment for.
HVAC guy replaced some parts on my home unit and said that our coolant was going to be obsolete (banned) in a few years and if we ever needed a pump or a condenser we’d have to buy an entire unit.
The EPA was one of Nixons worst legacies.
Obviously, using ice for refrigeration is now an existential threat.
Their using propane in the current batch of refrigerants, old school for a flammable reason.
If you use ice for refrigeration will it remove all the things in my fridge that are past their expiration date?
Only the Mexican food.

Happy (Belated) Birthday,
Woodrow Wilson,FDR,Bill ClintonBarack… Oh, hell! Too many to choose from! What day are you reading? I missed that one.
Well, SOMEONE changed out all the originally-posted birthdays after someone else pointed out that they were all for February 6th. 🙄
Thanks for the explanation. I thought my reading comprehension dropped to zero.
I confess I had to re-read this once to realize it is the new police chief and not Crazy Son of Professor doing the banging.
Morning all.
Given the hitting on you… there’s a porn movie plot in the making there… “Please kind restaurateur and professor with…. chemistry…. I’ll do anything”
And then Prime would turn it into an Unsolved Mysteries episode because I trust she’d be good enough to not leave evidence.
How’d of police should be an elected position or not exist.
Where I’m from the cops are always banging the dispatch girls or the new female city cops.
The latter one was doing two married city guys, a stater and a county.
Last I heard they all got paid Time off for the ‘investigation’ and careers continued.
Should be fired and barred from government employ for life.
Chief. Shitty autocorrect.
For decades, experts believed Homo sapiens and Neanderthals never interbred, until a groundbreaking 2002 discovery in Peştera cu Oase, Romania, changed that.
I note no incisors in the fossils shown in the video. How do we know they weren’t proto-vampires?
With Gérard Depardieu‘s popularity in the ‘80s/90s how did that not occur to them sooner?
Oh no – I can’t believe I’m missing men’s “Freeski Slopestyle” whatever the fuck that is supposed to be.
That sounds like the worst hip hop record.
Is Rachael Gunn competing?
Fortunately, 10b0t’s brain is a vestigial and non-functioning organ, so the joke was on the crazy guy.
Sorry l0b0t.
10b0t is short for lobotomized.
I always assumed he was the sole survivor of an ’80s cartoon ported from anime… “Go! Might L0b0ts!” or whatnot…
I can’t even with you people: the obvious reference

No idea what that is from but I thought the initial character is a one, not an “L”…?
In my little city, it’s an obviously mentally ill homeless person who spends hours at a time yelping and waving his arms at passing cars.
With the new crackhouse they put up across the street and next door to City Hall a couple summers ago and the daily visits from cops, ambulances, and fire trucks, he’s like a pig in slop with all the opportunities to “direct traffic”.
We had the bridge walker for years.

Then he got murdered by a couple of drunk Indians with a baseball bat. They got off.
He got replaced by a bevy of crackheads.

“For the following reasons, I urge you to conduct a thorough investigation into Justice Jackson’s attendance at this event and whether her presence at such an event complies with the obligation that a Supreme Court justice ‘act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary,’” Blackburn’s letter to Roberts reads, according to a statement from her office.
Roberts: Yeah, she’s a ‘tard, but you guys confirmed her, so we’re stuck with her for the next few decades.
I’d settle for an investigation into Justice Jackson’s ability to succeed at a long string of achievements for which she is clearly not qualified – graduating high school etc.
For a bunch of rich fucks you americans are trying to rob us poor romanians 🙁
Speaking of 10b0t, and since this is Super Bowl weekend, I never got a chance to reveal to him TT’s connection to this classic commercial , which 10b0t admired.
At the risk of doxxing myself to someone determined enough to do the research, TT’s dad was in charge of the Bud ad account for decades and was an often-accidental advertising genius. When the brewery asked him to come up with something extra special for this “Super Bowl” thing, he puzzled and pondered and finally said, “What else could I possibly tell the world about this beer? I’ve already said it all…”
Great anecdote. That was a great addition from a completely different timeline. Who could have imagined that making an ad about a brand, tying that to patriotism and simple brand elitism would become anathema.
Now we have brand ads that talk about body positivity or racism. Completely upside-down
Needs more Dylan Mulvany.

I’m surprised the main mouthpiece of the DNC managed to debunk the official Narrative in the first sentence.
Because the idea that the President knowingly spread a video of ape-Obamas is, frankly, ludicrous. I wonder if the Dems will grandstand for weeks over it now that there is an obvious explanation that even WaPo had to acknowledge.
They still trot out the “fine people” BS… I have faith this one will never die either.
I’m not sure I believe that he didn’t realize what was on the clip. That sounds like “My account was hacked”, to me.
Even if he did, he’s responsible for not knowing what he promoted.
Regardless, who really cares? The people complaining about this started the whole “showing Presidents as chimps” thing anyway, with Bush the Lesser.
Trump knows how to say “You’re fired!”. Would add to his credibility if he used it on the schmuck who is too dense to realize the current third rails in politics.
Well, I don’t believe that Trump personally views or writes anything that appears on any of the accounts to which he attaches his name.
But, yes, as the boss I agree that he is responsible & this was stupid. Especially when all of the institutions are venomously arrayed against you. Fortunately for him, he doesn’t really give a shit.
I don’t believe that Trump personally views or writes anything that appears on any of the accounts to which he attaches his name.
Scott Atlas, in his book on his time as an advisor to Trump during the Rona Panic, said that at least some of Trump’s tweets went through Jared Kushner before going out.
It would be nice if the president would act like a gentleman, but chimp videos are pretty small compared the problems our country is facing right now. I find it very hard to get mad about it.
Another one where… I just don’t care. Well, actually I do. You know how you stop this crap that is designed entirely to have a weapon to make other people shut up?
You say “I.DON’T.CARE”.
“But people will attack you and call you bad words! ” – You know what, they don’t believe it. It’s a weapon, don’t disarm them by agreeing to everything the say, constantly trying to police yourself until you’re in the corner they’ve created for you, disarm them by telling them, figuratively if you want literally if so inclined – “Fuck off with your disingenuous bullshit”
Further, they’ll just find the next thing. It’s all about keeping you off your feet until you are restricted to the places they want you to be.
“But people won’t vote for you!” – So? You know how we got to the point that the commie-fascists could shut people up? By not speaking up and pushing back. The vast swath of voters didn’t get to the point where these attacks are successful independently, they were ‘argued’ there in exactly the same way. The entire sphere of what is allowed in discourse was ceded to them. Take it back. It doesn’t matter how clean, sanitized, or towing of the lion your words are – you will be attacked because the point is not principle/idea, it’s “Shut those people up”. So you steer people back to focusing on what you think is important by not collapsing every time the thought-police find the next thing to attack you with.
“He’s playing right into their hands! You can’t do that in today’s society!” – You will always be playing right into their hands, because they are trying to make anything contrary to their agenda taboo by whatever means necessary. There’s no point in trying to play that game as you’ve already ceded the game and are just pretending to be playing, a sure path to losing. You don’t change ‘today’s society’ and what’s acceptable by always playing on their court by the – ever changing – rules they set.

I went to a place that advertised new york bagels. It was okay, though the lox bagel had a gorgonzola cream cheese which was a bit pungent for the salmon, a milder cheese would have worked better
Agreed, basic cream cheese if you’re doing salmon.
I cheated and had a bagel with cream cheese and lox last weekend. Totally worth being knocked out of ketosis.

Hahaha… Great minds think alike.
This missing whit women shit keeps getting out of hand.
Where da white women at?
CT cares not a whit.
The Guardian writing about Trump’s influence across the west is replite with abuses of language.
“Liberalism”, they label the most authoritarian western movement since WWII. The left really loves to label things as the opposite. The most illiberal parties are “liberal”. Censorship is freedom. Constant monitoring is privacy. Ugh…
And I oops. 🙄
Kraft is getting a lot of blowback for the ad. If wants to combat antisemitism, running snippets of Hebrew Hammer or Raid on Entebbe would have been much better.
That was exactly the point made in the linked article. I don’t want to be pitied, I want to be feared.
Put up the done footage of when they whacked the head of HAMAS. He looks at the drone and realizes it is game over and he is completely defeated. His weak attempt of throwing wood at the drone is the chef’s kiss.

Absent photos and videos, there’s not much in terms of proof. There is an email where he straight up says they killed 2 girls and buried them at Zorro Ranch. Todd Blanche could have the FBI there with cadaver dogs tomorrow.

I’m watching a current anime that has a gay couple in a perfectly normal relationship. There is no constant displays of affection and they occasionally bicker like any couple.
I haven’t seen anything like that on US TV in decades. Now the idea is to normalize the most extreme sexual relationships of all kinds.
Yeah, every gay man on TV these days is a flaming “queer”. It does get tiresome but in this age of extreme narcissism everywhere it’s not much of a surprise.
Not normalize. Normalize would mean doing what the anime is doing.

Sounds like a good way to garner charges on criminal conspiracy to obstruct law enforcement. But as mentioned (yesterday? day before?) I’m more law and order than most here, I think.
We shall see if the FBI is at all competent at infiltrating and monitoring such groups.
After years of spying on Americans with secret warrants to protect the deep state from people who are not of the uniparty, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to use those tools for actual law enforcement purposes..
I will take these commies seriously when they start inviting their illegal alien friends into their homes and feeding and caring for them for extended periods on their own dime instead of mine.
So… never.
I’m test driving Brave browser to replace Firefox. Any Brave users have recommendations for Glibs UX improvement plugins?
I’d just like to put in a vote for an article however it turns out. I know others of us use or have used Firefox, and I’ve tried a couple variations / spinoffs as Mozilla has annoyed me over the last couple of years, but keep drifting back to “have it set up how I like and it hasn’t pissed me off too badly yet”, so I’d love to hear how Brave worked out (or didn’t) for you.

The beauty of all this is that since they redact the ‘victims’ names and faces people will just assume the ‘girls’ are whatever age infuriates the most. So a 25 year old escort from Belarus taking a modelling class becomes a school girl, and the outrage rises. Meanwhile there’s no way to prosecute any of the VIPs because they didn’t solicit the prostitute, Epstein did, and anyway the statute of limitations has expired.
The whole thing is the epitome of modern click bait journalism. Maximum outrage created, no effort to actually demonstrate a crime that can be prosecuted, just endless innuendo everyone can latch onto to support their chosen hatreds.
“Would you agree that when somebody — a resident, a geriatric patient — walks out of your facility and freezes to death, that that’s a pretty, that’s a pretty significant event, right?” public defender Matthew Sheeley asked…
“I’m asking you, having heard that now, whether it’s possible that you failed or neglected to contact the staff about the alarm to Lynne’s door?” Sheeley asked.
“It’s possible,” Lehman said.
Either this paper has no idea of the distinction between a prosecutor/DA and a public defender or this lady got some quality representation.
“More than 35 cases of death cap poisonings have been reported to health officials since November 18, including four deaths and three liver transplants.
The California Department of Public Health is urging people to avoid mushroom foraging altogether this year because death cap mushrooms are easily confused with safe, edible varieties.”

Damn.
Somehow I have never felt the urge to eat random shit I find growing outside. And certainly not mushrooms of any kind.
I generally leave mushrooms in place with two exceptions- in NC while deer hunting I’d pick oyster mushrooms from downed oaks and while elk hunting in WA I’ll pick chanterelles. Both species are in specific habitats and very recognizable, plus I carry identification pictures on my phone.
Morells only.
Well this is it. I hope america enjoys pie’s hard earned moneys

That idiot was trying to start an Amazon boycott over the WaPo culling. I sent him a link to all the shit he sells on Amazon.
Really? CWAA.
I do sort of appreciate the narcissism that compels leftists to make assholes of themselves for all the world to see. Helps decide who to not pay attention to anymore.
“Members of Congress will gain access within days to the Justice Department’s closely guarded, unredacted Jeffrey Epstein files….
Lawmakers will be permitted to begin reviewing the sensitive materials starting on Monday morning inside secure Justice Department offices, according to a letter obtained by NBC News and confirmed by other sources familiar with the plans.
The access will allow elected officials, but not their staff, to examine millions of previously released documents in their original, unredacted form…
Under strict conditions outlined by the Justice Department, lawmakers must give 24 hours’ notice before reviewing the files and will be required to examine them in person on government computers.
They will be allowed to take handwritten notes but barred from bringing electronic devices or making digital copies.
The tightly controlled process underscores the sensitivity of the material, which has remained at the center of intense political pressure and public scrutiny.”

The whole redactions thing just stinks of coverup. Even if they wanted to prosecute anyone*, the statute of limitations has run on most every crime that might be documented in the files.
*they don’t
I’m test driving Brave browser to replace Firefox. Any Brave users have recommendations for Glibs UX improvement plugins?
I can’t tell you about that, but I have been using the Duck Duck Go browser for a while now, and I like it. Especially the youtube ad blocker.
I have a question on the whole voter ID/SAVE Act kerfuffle.
It’s being opposed because it supposedly discriminates against minorities, on account of so many of them not having ID.
Is there any evidence that minorities are less likely to have ID? Such as, 100% of wypipo have ID, and only 80% of blacks do?
How would we know? The don’t have ID, so we have to rely on models to estimate their numbers. Fortunately, the same people that do the climate change models provide the racial inequity modeling software, so you simply entered the desired result and it builds the assumptions needed to support your predetermined conclusion.
Is there any evidence that minorities are less likely to have ID? Such as, 100% of wypipo have ID, and only 80% of blacks do?
Don’t know, don’t care.
On the other hand, I love this classic.
I’m hearing that the law will only accept “Real ID” licenses. That is some bullshit IMHO.
I do have a birth certificate but I can imagine a lot of people don’t have one handy, and not just dumb minorities.
OTOH I guess a regular license doesn’t prove you’re a citizen so there is that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Here’s the bill text that passed the House.
The requirements are around voter registration. REAL ID is one possible ID accepted for voter registration. Passport is on the list. It looks to me like a non-REAL ID driver’s license with birth certificate will work based on the list.
The requirements are also only for elections for Federal office.
When I moved to NH in the late 90s, when I registered to vote I had to do it in person. I had to show documentation showing that I now lived in NH and was a US citizen. In PA before I moved to NH, I could register via the mail and I don’t remember handing over copies of documents.
and REAL ID is bullshit in general. I don’t have one and have no intentions of getting one.
The fact that I would have to take a day off work and travel to get a REAL ID is a big motivator for me not wanting to get one either.
Me. I don’t have enough ID with both my first and middle names, being one of those people who goes by his middle name.
My Social Security card is [first initial] [middle name] [last name].
I feel that pain.
Just checked and luckily both my SS card and birth certificate have my complete name.
Weirdly, the three CC’s I use the most have three different variations of my name but I have never had a problem using them even when I enter a combination that doesn’t match exactly what is on the card.
“Is there any evidence that minorities are less likely to have ID?”
No, none knows either number, so there is no way to know which number is bigger.
The other thing, if blacks don’t have ID, why aren’t they trying to solve that problem?
Probably because that doesn’t leave a gaping hole in the voting system that allows illegals to cast votes, which are likely to be Democrap votes if patterns hold steady. I really do believe this is the calculation for them.
If I recall, some states accept a variety of forms of ID, or they issue “voter ID” cards for free upon proving your identity. If minorities really do have trouble getting IDs, there are many easy ways to fix it besides turning elections into a free-for-all.
Also, I’ll start caring about the “disparate impact on minorities” with regards to voting when they acknowledge that the same thing applies to guns.
Oh, no. Trump refuses to apologize for racist video.
We all know he made it himself, down in the White House basement.
No, but he should fire the doofus that did make it.
It was a repost of someone else’s video, I believe. But yes, fire the idiot who posted it without watching it to the end.
I have been raising my hand and saying “ooooo ooooo pick me! pick me!” Since freshman year.
Finally someone is catching on.

I haven’t thought about the subject much in the last few decades but I do remember being struck by “the ozone is disappearing over the Earth’s poles because Karen uses spray lysol in Roosterpoot, MS”. I am still a bit skeptical. What else do you find at the poles?

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered.
Oooh! Bday boy Sinclair Lewis is from Sauk Centre, MN, where Munchkin calls home. She hates him and the town’s annual festival for him and “Main Street.” (I don’t trust her literary intuition, but her rage against MSP is tangible sludge (the sexy kind) that oozes out anytime she hears about it. (It’s about the most ‘popular’ place in America these days, ain’t it?)
Today and tomorrow off before my 10am orientation on Monday. I’ve got a few applications to look at (and likely fill) for other possibilities, but this is looking to be a weekend where I can just plop down and do whatever to get ready and actually rest ‘n enjoy my time. Once again, in an upside of this job swing, I’m not expecting my work to be anything close to ‘stressful.’
I am thinking of ways to maximize my schedule so I can get hours and a chance for at least Sunday off. Cabin fever has struck after well-over a year of never going out to meet folk, whom I have none to meet. I may make friends with bartenders w my club soda+lime if I have to.
Compelling public interest
A federal judge on Friday night ordered the Trump administration to unfreeze billions of dollars in funding for the Gateway rail tunnel project, a win for New York and New Jersey.
The ruling from U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas of the Southern District of New York said that “plaintiffs have adequately shown that the public interest would be harmed by a delay in a critical infrastructure project.”
Let’s send that case to Salt Lake City or Billings and see what they say.
The ruling from Vargas, an appointee of former President Joe Biden, was cheered by officials in New York and New Jersey. New York Attorney General Letitia James called it a “critical victory” for workers in the two states.
New Jersey Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said in a statement that “the order issued this evening should ensure that nearly 1,000 workers will be able to keep their jobs and continue their work on the Tunnel,” suggesting that construction could resume soon.
From the many to the few.
Democracy, baby!
Those 1,000 votes won’t buy themselves.
I guess divining the reason why the rebuild requires tax dollars when the original tunnels were built by a private company is an exercise left for the reader.
And there is some evidence that the original tunnel handled more trains than the current tunnel. With modern signaling technology, why do the tunnels need to be enlarged to handle the current, smaller traffic load?
I just skimmed a bunch of Guardian articles. Everything is still sexist and racist.
The fact that lots of people eagerly read that trash day in and day out and believe every word of it terrifies me.

Don’t you believe in the First Amendment?
If he or she works for me, then no.
Progressive fever dream or just Bill being Bill, but reportedly if he testified before Congress he is letting it be known behind the scenes that he will use the opportunity to make it all about Trump at every turn.
What if “Minority Voter X” has an ID but would prefer not to show it because of outstanding warrants?
*same can easily be true of white voter x, obviously
“And then there are “family values,” a whole range of social issues usually related to sexual behavior and typically expressed in censorious, moralizing terms. But the entire GOP family-values façade collapsed in 2016 at the mere utterance of two words: “Stormy” and “Daniels.” Likewise, the QAnon obsession with an elite, shadowy pedophile ring experienced a now-unsurprising twist when Donald Trump appeared in thousands of pages of the Epstein files. One could expand this list of Republican policy flip-flops almost indefinitely, but one of the more intriguing examples only recently hove into view, and deserves closer examination.”

Cogent, rational argument.
It’s almost like rambling, drug-fueled idiocy is a job requirement there.
Where will we get our warrior philosophers now?
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement Friday that Harvard “no longer meets the needs of the War Department or the military services.”
“For too long, this department has sent our best and brightest officers to Harvard, hoping the university would better understand and appreciate our warrior class,” Hegseth said. “Instead, too many of our officers came back looking too much like Harvard — heads full of globalist and radical ideologies that do not improve our fighting ranks.”
The end of American civil society.
“The Department of Homeland Security on Friday sent out a press release on Friday, revealing that 33,179 illegals are in California’s custody, yet the state government is refusing to honor the ICE detainers. The crimes by these prisoners include 399 homicides, 3,313 assaults, 3,171 burglaries, 1,011 robberies, 8,380 dangerous drugs offenses, 1,984 weapons offenses, and 1,293 sexual predatory offenses.
This policy by California has resulted in 4,561 criminal illegal aliens being released since January 20.”

“California Values Act” 🙄

Just desserts.
Coddle the communists long enough and they will turn around and bite you on the ass. What a surprise.
Question: Are there any pro-ICE demonstrators in Minnesoda? Or anywhere?
We have jobs?
