“No, I’m not putting troops anywhere,” Trump told reporters during the meeting. “If I were, I would not tell you, but I’m not putting troops.”

    • SDF-7

You can tell he’s a salesman and not a programmer. The Executive had better be putting the troops somewhere, even if it is domestic base postings. We don’t have a Phantom Zone projector yet, Trump… (“COME TO ME, BROTHER OF OMAR! KNEEL BEFORE DON!”)

Education Department says Treasury will take over some federal student loan responsibilities

It’s not libertarian, but part of me wants to see SWAT teams going after the people who don’t pay back their loans.

    • (((Jarflax

I agree that swatting would help with this problem, but it needs to happen earlier in their lives, on a more regular basis, from their parents, to be effective.

      • AlexinCT

They SWAT unit need to go after the people that allowed these fools to sign up for ridiculous shit, at premium costs, claiming that was college education. Any school with a studies degree program or where the humanities fight white history, needs to have those departments carpet bombed.

Education Department says Treasury will take over some federal student loan responsibilities

Revoking COVID19 subsidies, Obamacare and Obama’s take over of student loans are three of my top wish list items.

Of course, I’m sure a District Judge would explain to us that regardless of voting, will of Congress or anything else — Federal money must still be shoveled to the insurance industry, the education administration / DEI industry, etc…

    • Rat on a train

You can’t end the programs. People have come to rely on the spending.

      • SDF-7

But you can, of course, raise taxes. Because no one is relying on paying their own bills or anything…

    • WTF

Of course, I’m sure a District Judge would explain to us that regardless of voting, will of Congress or anything else — Federal money must still be shoveled to the insurance industry, the education administration / DEI industry, etc…

Why not? The judiciary has already usurped executive policy and decision-making, why not usurp congressional appropriation of funds?

    • AlexinCT

How the fuck did this happen? I can’t believe people still do not see what the democrats have done to them. The same cabal of crooks that promised free and abundant healthcare, then foisted Obamacare on us all, forcing every US citizen to buy insurance or pay a penalty, then went to give not just healthcare, but everything hocked in the vote buying welfare system to illegals. FOR FREE. Not really, for their vote: legal or illegal.

In a sane world the democrat pols would all be dragged to gallows for this shit by their supporters that have been betrayed.

    • Not Adahn

It seems like two things can be true:

Most illegal immigrant households are NOT on welfare, since there’ a barrier to entry in faking up the documentation needed.

Most legal immigrant households ARE on welfare, since those brought over as refugees or any other resettlement programs will have bennies baked into the resettlement process.

I guess it comes down to the ratio of legal/illegal immigrants.

      • AlexinCT

As someone that sponsored two immigrants, I believe legal immigrants have to sign an agreement they will not use any of the social system. Has this changed recently?

      • Not Adahn

See, I remember reading stories about asylum seekers getting set up with like six months of rent and a food allowance. Were your two just normies who wanted to move here or were they part of a Currently Popular Thing?

      • The Last American Hero

They let anyone come in and mouth the word asylum and get at the benes.

Add in the “temporary” refugee programs that have been going on for 30, yes 30 years, and the massive ID theft fraud that the cartels can no doubt facilitate for a small fee of course, and you get what you get.

      • Threedoor

Illegals get on it because their wages are not counted, their anchorbabies qualify for all the programs because their parents have no income.

    • Son of Fourscore

Undocumented immigrants have been a huge benefit to the U.S. economy, as this CATO Institute study shows.

Anecdotally, my friend here in Texas owns a roofing company that installed 200 roofs in 2024, about 160 last year, and in January he told me that he’ll be lucky to do 40 this year. The reason is because he simply doesn’t have the labor available to him. Some workers have gone back to Mexico and many of those who are here legally are afraid to show up to work. It’s the same for highway and road construction and repair. Y’all might want to invest in companies that make shock absorbers.

  8. DEG

The change comes after the Trump administration announced last year that it was giving the Education Department’s responsibilities to five different federal agencies as it aims to close the overarching department.

“Aims to close”. Huh. So when is the Trump administration going to bat for legislation to terminate the department like it did for the Big Beautiful Bill?

    • UnCivilServant

Moving the responsibilities is not closing the agency. It’s shuffling the deck chairs.

      • SDF-7

“This is a great reorg… Titanic, even… the best, the greatest!”

      • Gdragon

Deck chairs are now the responsibility of the Department of Furniture since the Department of Aquatic Relaxation has been eliminated. You don’t expect people to buy/bring their own chairs now do you?

      • DEG

Some of the legislation before Congress to end the DoE shuffles deck chairs.

I expect if the Trump admin actually does go to bat for legislation ending the DoE, they will support one of those bills so they can claim they ended the DoE. Pay no attention to all the programs still existing.

One of the problems with the foreign entanglements the Founders warned about is that other countries don’t have the same goals. Trump is trying to steer this thing to some kind of resolution before our Gulf allies and the global economy is destroyed.

Israel doesn’t give a shit about those things and would love it if Iran burned the Arab states into poverty.

    • AlexinCT

By your logic Israel also being attacked also seems to not matter?

    • Drake

That happens when you start a war.

What was not being targeted initially in Israel were the refineries and desalination plants.

Also not targeted yet, for at least another step up in the escalation ladder is Israel’s nuclear site in Dimona.

      • R C Dean

Err, depending on how you count these things, the “start a war” thing between Iran and Israel happened when Iran’s proxies crossed the border to murder, rape, torture, and kidnap Israelis on October 7.

    • R C Dean

Weirdly, the Gulf states have gone from being somewhere on the pro-Iran to pro-status quo spectrum, to being in favor of war on Iran and regime change. I guess it took the closure of Hormuz and being missiled by Iran to finally convince them an Iran that would close Hormuz and had the ability and willingness to missile them was a bad thing, for them. All those years of tolerating, if not supporting, the regime counted for absolutely nothing.

      • Drake

They have to tolerate each other because they share the Gulf. But different ethnicities and wings of Islam.

      • Threedoor

Ideally for the world all the flavors of that death cult go at it and kill eachother.

      • R C Dean

Looks like the Iranians stopped tolerating their neighbors, and their neighbors are returning the favor.

The surprising thing is, nobody apparently thought that it would come to this sooner or later. Iran controls Hormuz, builds massive missile stockpiles, is working very hard to get nukes, and once they have all that leverage, they’re never going to use it?

The fact that Iran has been attacking the United States in an ongoing low level war since 1979, and is murdering protesters on an industrial scale is dismissed as (((propaganda))).

I am still more worried that the left will put me in a camp at some point, but the Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson followers would happily do it as well because my paternal grandparents were (((Jews))). This has moved way beyond “avoid foreign entanglements”.

Delve, a YC-backed compliance startup that raised $32 million, has been accused of systematically faking SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance reports for hundreds of clients. According to a detailed Substack investigation by DeepDelver, a leaked Google spreadsheet containing links to hundreds of confidential draft audit reports revealed that Delve generates auditor conclusions before any auditor reviews evidence, uses the same template across 99.8% of reports, and relies on Indian certification mills operating through empty US shells instead of the “US-based CPA firms” they advertise. Here’s the breakdown:

    > 493 out of 494 leaked SOC 2 reports allegedly contain identical boilerplate text, including the same grammatical errors and nonsensical sentences, with only a company name, logo, org chart, and signature swapped in
    > Auditor conclusions and test procedures are reportedly pre-written in draft reports before clients even provide their company description, which would violate AICPA independence rules requiring auditors to independently design tests and form conclusions
    > All 259 Type II reports claim zero security incidents, zero personnel changes, zero customer terminations, and zero cyber incidents during the observation period, with identical “unable to test” conclusions across every client

First and second issues are not issues. All of those reports are total boilerplate, nobody in their right mind would write a new Shakespeare sonnet every time they have to do a report. As far as the conclusions looking positive before data is done, that also is part of boilerplate templates, since most people pass. The last point is concerning.

      • The Last American Hero

Mostly agree, except SOC reports have detailed descriptions of the processes used at the company, as well as detailed descriptions of the tests performed and the results, and what conditions, if any, mitigated any failure in control.

So even legit, clean reports for 2 different but very similar entities would have a lot of differences in the report. Less so in the auditor opinion itself where the industry has specific language they want to see in it.

The report also contains newly public allegations by Dolores Huerta, the renowned trade union activist and co-founder of UFW, that Chavez once pressured her to have sex with him on a work trip and then later raped her in a parked car – encounters that Huerta says led to pregnancies, which she strove to conceal before giving the resulting daughters away to be raised by others.”

Sanders described the incident, which took place at The Croissanterie restaurant in Little Rock, in a post on the X platform.

“Last week I was having lunch with two other moms at a restaurant when the owner approached a member of the State Police Executive Protection Detail and said my presence made their employees feel threatened and told us to leave,” she wrote.”

Good – all the usual suspects rushing to defend that person can make asses of themselves defending the indefensible. The more repulsive they reveal themselves to be, the better in the long run, at least if it leads to people maybe putting more effort into picking less horrible candidates.

Here in the smouldering wreckage of a once great nation

Three major reports out this month say President Trump has done serious damage to American democracy at remarkable speed since his return to the White House.

    ——-

Lindberg said V-Dem downgraded America’s rating based on the Trump administration concentrating executive power, overstepping laws, circumventing the Republican-led Congress as well as attacks on the news media and freedom of speech. Lindberg, a political scientist, is struck by the speed with which Trump has acted.

“Under the Trump administration, democracy has been rolled back as much during just one year as it took Modi in India and Erdogan in Turkey 10 years to accomplish, and Orban in Hungary four years,” said Lindberg, referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

All three of those leaders came to power through democratic elections, but scholars say they have since undermined checks and balances on executive power to try to ensure they remain in office.

Trump has had nothing but clear sailing. Not a check or balance to be seen.

    • WTF

Please, show us something Trump has done that every Dem president hasn’t also done.

      Oh, NPR, it figures.

  30. The Late P Brooks

“There’s just no question that what we’re seeing is the authoritarian playbook,” said Nyhan, “but there’s no guarantee that Trump will be able to operate this way after the midterms, let alone a successor after 2028.”

He’ll be too busy defending himself from impeachment to build his death camps.

    Most credible source

The US is no longer a democracy. One of the most credible global sources on the health of democratic nations now says this outright. The Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute at Gothenburg University reaches the alarming conclusion in its annual report, that the US is hurtling towards autocracy at a faster rate than Hungary and Turkey.

“Our data on the USA goes back to 1789. What we’re seeing now is the most severe magnitude of democratic backsliding ever in the country,” says Staffan Lindberg, founder of the institute.

Since 2012, Lindberg has led his small group of researchers in Sweden to become the world’s leading source for analysis of the health of global democracy. In their latest report, published on Tuesday, they conclude that the US, for the first time in more than half a century, has lost its long-term status as a liberal democracy. The country is now going through a rapid process of what the report’s authors call “autocratisation”.

Trump may be a jerk, but he’s no Woodrow Wilson.

    • Not Adahn

A single bright spot in the assessment of the US is that free and open elections are still being held,

But other than that the US isn’t a democracy!

      • rhywun

LOL another whopper. Unless by “free and open” they mean open to anyone in the world with a pulse or a postage stamp.

    • rhywun

Thanks, The Guardian. I needed that belly laugh.

  32. The Late P Brooks

US democracy is now back at the worst recorded level since 1965, when US civil rights laws first introduced de facto universal suffrage. All progress made since then has been erased, according to the report.

Worldwide, democracy has receded to its lowest levels since the mid-70s. “The world has never before seen as many countries autocratising at the same time,” Lindberg says.

A record 41% (3.4 billion) of the world’s population currently resides in countries where democracy is deteriorating, the report claims, adding that Washington is leading this global turn away from democracy.

We’re drowning in extreme right wing populism!

    • R.J.

Civil rights laws do not equate to democracy. They equate to progressivism.

      • rhywun

Look, “democracy” is whatever some smarmy, leftist Norwegian dude says it is.

How hard is that to understand?

      • R.J.

        Very true.

  33. The Late P Brooks

Meanwhile, the supreme court has also mostly abdicated power, and even when it does strike down Trump’s executive orders, he circumvents it, Lindberg tells me. He points out that there are more than 600 ongoing judicial procedures against the Trump administration in the courts.

The Supreme court has abdicated its sacred responsibility to rule against President Cartoon Villain in every instance!

The courts are clogged with suits contesting executive action, which proves Trump is running roughshod over law and precedent.

  34. The Late P Brooks

Some day there will be an immense memorial to the millions of Trump’s victims. Those innumerable noble patriots snuffed out for daring to whisper the faintest criticism of his despotic tyranny.

      • Threedoor

They need to be handed shovels and sent to be oilers on rock crushers for a month.

  35. The Late P Brooks

The core group of a dozen researchers in Gothenburg works with 4,200 researchers in 180 countries, using what they claim to be the largest global dataset on democracy, with more than 32m data points for 202 countries and territories, spanning from 1789 to 2025. “We have universal standards, but also people on the ground to tell us what is actually going on. The reports are 100% scientific, research-driven, and our data is free from bias and state influence, from general punditry and political considerations.”

    Indubitably.
