I must announce a scheduling interruption! How could I possibly post anything else besides Iron Sky tonight? In real life we have astronauts orbiting around the dark side of the moon at this moment. There has never been a more appropriate time to watch Iron Sky. Does this movie even need an introduction? Maybe for some of the younger kids. Here is the quip from IMDB, uncredited:
The Nazis set up a secret base on the far side of the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018.
Unfortunately, a lunar landing discovers them and the Nazi plan to conquer the earth is in peril! What will the Moon Nazis do?
This spawned a sequel which degraded the legacy of this excellent B movie. See below:
- Iron Sky: The Coming Race: Girl bosses and rotting Adolf Hitler riding a dinosaur, if I recall correctly. Avoid it, like you would a case of the crabs. I say this because I love you all. If you must watch it, don’t pay for it.
Trivia! 10% of the funding for this film came from fans who really believed in this project. You’ll see their names in the closing credits. (Courtesy IMDB).
I am going to cut this short, I really want to get this post out on time. I hit the submit button on Saturday, hopefully NASA has not killed our astronauts by the time this publishes.

So watch! Or Don’t! Everything is voluntary. Next week, we shall watch Mark of the Werebeard!, which was so crudely interrupted by Moon Nazis.
It’s Thursdays, remember there are no rules on Thursdays! Talk amongst yourselves about your garden, your bowels, or your pets! No rules apply!
Pouring one out for Penguin, and his excellent series that goes with this post so well. Secret Nazi President.

The sequel did indeed suck ass.
Haven’t watched it but I found Hitler riding a T-rex funny.
“Pouring one out for Penguin'”
Wait, he died?
No one knows (or at least they aren’t saying), he went AWOL may moons ago, I hope he is doing well in what ever place he’s in.
Same. Plenty of people stopped posting here, so I wouldn’t assume the worst.
Hopefully BakedPenguin is OK
My “Buddy System” suggestion that every regular poster here have at least one fellow glib that knows their real identity, so they can tell the rest of us if the missing jerk is dead or just decided to fuck off, and TBH most of us don’t give a rats ass any way.
There are a few folk I could email were it to come up. I have Derp on FB.
Richard has the addresses at least of those of us he gave pins to. I would assume actual names.
Scroll through posts and you’ll find my address to cause I don’t care if you send me anthrax or ricin.
After meeting fellow and fellowette Glibs at HH and other occasions I count them as real friends. People I would loan money to and expect to get it back.
These are folks I would never know otherwise but are like minded.
Can I send you a 1 1/4 inch hex wrench for working on oil rigs? I have used it for a paperweight for a long time.
*sends threedoor ANOTHER dick pic*
After meeting fellow and fellowette Glibs at HH and other occasions I count them as real friends.
Some of my best friends I see once per year.
*sends Threedoor my new anth-ricin invention*
My posting is spotty mostly due to intermittent internet issues. Unfortunately as a newbie I’m not much in tracking down dormant accounts.
1 1/4” hex wrench?!
I think the biggest one I have is 7/8”.
Largest I’ve used is 3/4. I don’t remember what I used it on now but I used it.
That’s sweet.
Fourscore is right.
I’ve only met a handful of you but those I did are solid folks.
A culture inside the larger one.
The kind of people I wouldn’t hesitate to go pick up at the airport if the needed a ride.
Granted I used to pick up hitch hikers before I got married.
Diving in
Who would win between Jews and Moon Nazis? On the one hand, the Nazis have a moonbase. On the other hand, Jews are desert people, and there is no water on the Moon.
Are space lasers effective against the moon?
In The Tick, Chairface Chippendale tried to write his name on the moon. I think I got the villain right.
In the same way one writes one’s name in the snow?
But that’s her hand-writing…
/old joke
But there’s also no weather to be controlled.
Bravo.
If I turned a fan on, on the moon, it wouldn’t blow? That just sucks, man.
Has Tres seen this?
https://tubitv.com/movies/100054123/blubberella
We discussed it a long time ago. I have never posted it.
Well, Uwe Boll is generally awful, so that’s probably a good thing.
Moon Beetle!
I hate Moon Nazis.
Those other ones were anti-smoking *and* anti-jazz. The worst, amiright?
The moon really needs to be pro-smoking, somehow. Smoke rings in space? Sign me right the fuck up.
The Venusian Minarchists are really into smoking. Of course everything on Venus tends to smoke anyway.
They had me at anti jazz.
Now I have to post Howard Moon in a jazz trance. Everytime I see it I think of OMWC.
Jazz isn’t something I listen to, but just respect that jazz led to blues –> rock n roll, and about all in between. That is all. For drums, I started w jazz in mid school, but only in school. Tho funk is where I’m kinda personally at.
Also Sowell’s great quote about what the US has done for the world: the Constitution, baseball, and jazz.

Pardon a minor quibble, but I’ve always been under the impression that blues led to jazz (and also to R&R.)
Year ago, snooping through the piles of CDs at a big box store that was going out of business, I found an incomplete set of a “Blues Masters” series on Rhino. The one I found most fascinating was Volume 10: Blues Roots. Starts with some 1970s-era recordings of traditional African music, moves on to very early (primitive, if you will) proto-blues, spirituals, “Rolling and Tumbling Blues” on a one-string hand bow, an honest-to-goodness field holler sung by a chain gang, and an honest-to-goodness minstrel show “walk-around” number. Highly recommended! If you can find it on CD with the liner notes, so much the better!
@GT: Your quibble is likely far more correct. Slave/chain gang songs certainly gave blues pretty much everything. Musically, I kinda just go from ragtime –> jazz/blues at about the same time in history, really. I can’t think of much difference, other than a more guitar focus, I suppose.
I wasn’t thinking of that. Though now, reminds me of Sam Cooke.
Blues is older than jazz, but jazz is much more international. American white people fell in love with jazz. English white people fell in love with the blues. Curious.
I love the Downfall callout
I shall watch it tonight! Or not, we’ll see.
I am back.
Welcome back.
Did you get the high school put together?
Meh, it was super boring. My daughter really wanted to know more about the vocational school, and the separate pick-up bus for that. Nothing. We had to sit through a one-hour pre-programmed lecture which repeated the same facts three times.
I have never heard of this.
Huh. OK, that is enough to get me to press Play.
They actually did the whole soundtrack. They did not just contribute music. Here it is on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/1dml6ZExDbxoKiBMAvgXtL
It’s “classical”. Not the weirdness they are usually known for.
Some of the melodies are Wagner.
They are great in concert. Very entertaining.
Huh. Things I learn. Rhy’s seems to be quite into a “Slovenian avant-garde music group associated with the industrial, martial, and neoclassical genres. Formed in 1980 in the mining town of Trbovlje, Slovenia (at the time the SR Slovenia within Yugoslavia), Laibach represents the musical wing of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) artist collective, a group which Laibach co-founded in 1984.”
Huh. I’m remarkably ignorant about such. “From the early days, the band was subject to controversies and bans due to their use of iconography with parodies and pastiches of elements from totalitarianism, nationalism and militarism, a concept they have preserved throughout their career. Censored in Yugoslavia, receiving a dissident status and a cult following in their home country… [and turned into] a national cultural icon.”
Much respect. I should know more about central Europe. Mom’s dad was the first in the family born in the US, to Polish immigrants. Kinda upset with myself I never visited, especially when I lived in Germany in ’08.
My favorite story of the dissidents is that woman who dubbed ALL English movies into whatever country during the Cold War. *googles* Oooh! I forgot she was Romanian! Pie’s childhood mistress, I’m sure. In many ways. I imagine Conan the Barbarian in her old-lady voice.
Irina Margareta Nistor was a Romanian translator who secretly dubbed over 3,000 banned Western movies into Romanian during the 1980s..”
“Alternative” radio played them by the late 80s; hell, even 120 Minutes played them by the early 90s. So yeah those of us of a certain age and in that “scene” will know them.
But yeah, they are certainly a perfect fit for this film. And BTW they are not the only central European band I like who have face the same “scandalous” past.
Here. This is newer than the other song posted. Probably would have been good as a Bonus Short Film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl6bWvzLaHs
Sarah Palin look-alike for president with a busty campaign manager.
Nice.
Lisa Ann?
Someone had to say it.
“In 2021, Dietze caused media outrage with a segment for the Daily Show when she compared U.S. health authorities’ actions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic to “Hitler times.” In the same interview, she claimed to take dietary advice from her cat.”
LOL
I LOVE IRON SKY. It’s so preposterous.
It’s a documentary.
That explains it.
I will now take the opportunity to pimp the 2010 Swedish (I think) movie Troll Hunter.
Found footage style, of which I am not so fond, but the trolls are the bomb.
Yes! I played that on 01/05/2023. First movie of the new year!
The sequel was absolutely vile, I could not even last through the opening 15 minutes. It’s on Netflix. They probably paid for it.
I think we’ve watched it here. I remember really enjoying it.
I love found footage style now, maybe not at first – I recall avoiding “Cloverfield” for years because it seemed so gimmicky but holy hell it’s really good.
My wife and I started to watch that.
The found footage style stopped us about ten minits in.
We did like the 2022 Norwegian Troll and its more campy sequel.
I played that on 01/05/2023
I remember it.
Blaire Witch, Cannibal Holocaust, Diary of the Dead, VHS, there are a bunch of good “found footage”.
I found the Troll Hunter post.
I missed it. Fuckin’ figures.
It’s been almost three years now. I can post it again, I think.
Imho, too much good stuff out there for re-runs.
I rented Blair Witch back in 2000.
I wanted my $1.34 back from Hastings for that abortion.
Blair Witch is what turned me off on the genre – still haven’t seen it.
Maybe try VHS first, and if you don’t hate it, try Blaire Witch. The sequel is awful.
This is getting silly.
No!
*Shocked face
Though it had boobs.
I’m out for the night. Thanks RJ!
I have wanted to see this since it came out.
I keep forgetting about it.
Passover ends and we get a Nazi movie. Sheesh. 😉
Space Master X-7 was kind of a dud, even though it was about a spacecraft coming back to earth covered with deadly mold. And it had Moe Howard. I felt like I needed to squeeze in one good space movie while the astronauts are still up there.
Besides, you love it!
No kink shaming!
Sadly, it means I have to return to work tomorrow. (We got the last two days off.)
On the bright side, everyone I know took the day off.
On the less bright side, I kind of have to run the show.
I’m Jewish and I did not get that much time off. You’ve been spoiled.
The (((owners))) are more generous with holidays than most big corporate fatcats. One reason I like the workplace.
I started an interesting project. One of the lurkers was having issues distinguishing fascism from communism, and when I read his reference material I saw why. The author suffers from verbal diarrhea, like most collegiates. Also the obsession about race and all the “-isms.” None of that helps to understand the difference between the governmental systems. So I made a chart, and showed how rights fall away as you march from anarchy to communism.
If you do not understand up front that communism has no private property, and fascism does, you end up confused and wondering why fascism is obsessed with race-hating. The whole racial hatred thing thing was a sidebar to the organizational structure of fascism, which was basically communism, but they let you keep your stuff, as long as you do what the government wants.
So I built the chart to cover all the major concepts from communism to anarchy on one axis, and god-given rights on another axis, and showed how those rights were removed (violated) as you went from anarchy to communism. Still a work in progress, but this might be keen when it is done. Is this worth an article?
of course it is worth an article
+1
And the race-obsession is clearly not really a “fascism” thing. Witness most of American history up to and including the present day.
But we only make everything about race because of you Nazis!
/prog
Seconded. Also point out that in Stalinist regimes (as in NK) the leader of the state effectively owns everything.
Yes.
Do it
Agree on the ‘of course write it up.’
(How do you know of these lurkers? How did you meet / how are you communicating? (Are you sleeping with he/she /it /them /us? I should know.))
Secret googly eyed alien technology.
Likely involved Probing as well.
I knew a lot of people, prior to joining this site. Good people who should be here but just don’t pull the trigger. This is one of the California lurkers, who I have known for about 40 years.
I would like to know people in meat space.
Jealous RJ.
With ya, 3door. I’m glad I’m starting this contract, but side-gig at Meijer will be most likely place for me to meet folk. It is right next to what fancy pantsy Carmel has for evening joints, but hrm.
Still very ‘Yankee in King Arthur’s Court’ going on in my realm.
I’m guessing by the wall of text that Ken Schultz is the lurker.
This site keeps checking my browser.
perhaps if you’d used an authentic browser, it wouldn’t need to,
You mean Fireboard isn’t a real browser?
Brave is being a PIA too. Mostly on other sites right now, but sometimes here.
Fireboard sounds like some native American open source browser.
How?
Refuses to show pictures on news sites, absolutely cannot support the multiple Twitter links on Twitchy, locks up scrolling sometimes.
That had some good moments.
You know what?
HOW ABOUT NOT LOGGING ME OUT EVERY TEN FUCKING MINUTES?
Fuck, fuckity , fuck, fuck, fuck.
FUCK.
I must be doing something wrong. I don’t get logged out every ten minutes. More like every other day.
The site remembers me.
I maybe get logged out once a week. And I can have Glibs open on my phone and on my computer at the same time. Or in two browser tabs when I am editing.
Hm. I don’t get that but it does happen more frequently than it used to. Maybe once a week or so instead of every two weeks like I thought it was always.
I’m still logged in, but I’ve been getting lots of 403 Error screens today. Like when I tried submitting this comment last time. First time I’ve had that occur, methinks. (He’s said that before? *rimshot*)
I’m on Chrome, cuz reasons.
I didn’t get logged out today but had a couple site freezes and everything went to white.
Sometimes my WiFi will glitch as it’s low bandwidth so I’ll turn it off and use cellular data but that’s sketch at my place as the closest tower is about four miles away or further.
I get that a lot but I scroll up or down and the content magically reappears. No idea what that is about.
I don’t know of that is bandwidth or the browser just cannot catch up and render the site. I get that too.
I get logged out once every couple of weeks.
Safari.
It’s because you touch yourself at night.
Well crap.
I’m not going to stop doing that.
I do it for my prostate health.
“at night”?
Must… post… link!

Thought on a favorite movie style that isn’t done much anymore: Well-made, written, exciting popcorn flicks. (I also don’t see movies anymore, to be quite honest. Project Hail Mary will be seen when it comes out here, methinks.) Thoughts:
Men in Black (only the first one); Speed; Pirates of the Caribbean (only the first one); True Lies; Willow (a stretch?); as I think backwards I’d add Back to the Future, but that’s up there in Best Flicks of All Time running, so I’ll stop now.
Movies that aren’t trying to send a big message, but know what they’re trying to do, and pull it off and nail the landing. The first MiB is outrageously good. (And the others.) I’d add fucking Knight’s Tale to that list. And am! Never any attempt to be serious, but it puts asses in the seats and everyone gets something out of it. (And it knows it’s being silly, crucially.)
Your list is solid.
Blarg.
Watching forty-seven episodes of Assassination Classroom to review the series is a slog not for the content but for the fact it’s forty-seven episodes. Just squeezing in enough time is the problem.
At least I’ll turn it in to 3-4 articles. And the piece after it is just a movie. Movies go faster.
Damn, dude. I hope that’s to help purge your inner self, and as much as I enjoy your write-ups, 47 eps sounds like self-flagellation. (NTTAWWT)
I appreciate your devotion to your craft. (And for culling the Batch of Unwatched.)
This might be a lot to watch… but there is another – 37 hours to Assassination Classroom’s 18.
From the dedthread:
The tunnels start just a few feet down, so they can’t build anything substantial on top of it (like the Corridor Park on top of the Amtrak tunnels) but the parks are a massive improvement. The old elevated highway utterly divided the city.
There are beer gardens and the like on that space now, so it’s not just open space.
From Threedoor’s earlier post. I cannot watch a movie alone anymore.
