Yes, I am making a reference to this song from “the 90’s”. Scare quotes intended.
This is my review of Fate Brewery Island Noir:

In the beginning of his reign of terror, there many were apprehensive of the worlds most infamous Palestinian. I can say that with certainty because Arafat is dead. Later, Nayib Bukele violated his country’s Constitution to the chagrin of people looking to be upset by authoritarians (TW: TOS). Standard Libertarian Disclaimer: I get it, he’s an authoritarian. Truly he is.
Too bad though, right wing authoritarianism has a decent enough track record in Latin America I am forced to overlook my libertarian principles and ask why nobody in American politics can be this entertaining.
Thousands of Salvadoran schoolchildren—and their families—are trying to adapt to the new rule approved by the government of Nayib Bukele, which requires them to go to school in a clean uniform, an “appropriate” haircut, and to greet politely before entering class. The regulation, which took effect on Wednesday, seeks to “strengthen discipline and order,” according to its proponent, new Minister of Education Karla Trigueros. The move has prompted a multitude of images and videos circulating on social media, showing the unusual inspections taking place at school gates. Many youngsters have visited barbershops and salons nationwide in recent days to bring their appearance into line with the government’s requirements.
This is not what drew attention from social media nerds nearly 8 months later(!). One of the banned hairstyles is known as “The Edgar”.
On principle, this only appears to apply to government run schools in El Salvador. So this isn’t exactly a fashion police. If anything this is more like Saddam Hussein making it socially acceptable to berate the Shia majority in his country into shaving their beards. Sort of. Turns out being a dictator has its perks in that you can tell the idiots in your country to not look like idiots—and men armed with guns will actually enforce such an edict. Seriously, what the fuck kind of hairdo is that? This guy looks like a goddamn cartoon.
One of these days I will need to see El Salvador myself, if nothing else but to see if dark beer is allowed in the country. This is a delightful specimen, in that somebody thought it was a good idea to take your bog standard dry Irish Stout, and make it suitable for warm climates. By suitable, I mean pack it with enough booze it will make the trip to the Caribbean more or less intact and still taste like what you remember. Too bad though. Some dudes just like to get drunk, and drank it at home. This is how “Foreign Export Stout” became a thing. Not because Jamaicans like the dark beer (man). Fine, maybe they do…but this one fits the style well enough to promote proper order and discipline. Fate Brewery Island Noir: 3.8/5 7.5% ABV, 35 IBU

Standard Libertarian Disclaimer: I get it, he’s an authoritarian. Truly he is.
At a past FreedomFest’s Latin America panel, one of the panelists took a question about Bukele. The panelist claims to be friends with Bukele. I don’t remember the question, but the answer could be summed up as, “He’s not a libertarian, he’s authoritarian. But he loves his country, wants to fix it, and is willing to listen to libertarians.”
Thousands of Salvadoran schoolchildren—and their families—are trying to adapt to the new rule approved by the government of Nayib Bukele, which requires them to go to school in a clean uniform, an “appropriate” haircut, and to greet politely before entering class.
Sounds like my old Catholic schools. But those were private schools, not government run.
By suitable, I mean pack it with enough booze it will make the trip to the Caribbean more or less intact and still taste like what you remember.
Oh yeah. I’d drink it.
When I toured the Guinness brewery in the pre-Rona Panic times, I got lunch at one of the restaurants in the brewery. I got a Guinness Foreign Extra Stout with my lunch. When I was wrapping up my lunch, the waiter brought a second Foreign Extra Stout over.
“I didn’t order that”
“The bartender poured it by mistake. You’re the only one drinking this in the restaurant. If you don’t take it, we’ll dump it. It’s on the house.”
“It’s not going to waste. Thank you!”
So I had two Foreign Export Stouts that day.
If their government schools are anything like the lawless school-to-prison pipeline shitholes like ours are, I would probably whole-heartedly support this mild effort at combatting that either way. That is an area where I might check whatever “liberatarian” principles I have at the door.

A bear attacked and injured two soldiers who were participating in a training exercise in a remote location at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on Thursday, military and state wildlife officials said Friday.
The U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division soldiers were hurt in the encounter with a brown bear while participating a “land navigation training event” at the base’s Arctic Valley training area, Lt. Col. Jo Nederhoed, a public affairs officer for the division, said in an email.
The soldiers were “receiving appropriate medical care” as of late Friday morning, Nederhoed said. The military was withholding details about their condition pending notification of their next of kin, she said.
Oh, you said “beer”.
It would have been funny if it were two female soldiers.
Field problems without live ammo pissed me off at fort Campbell.
You’d have to be an idiot not to be in the great white north without one in the chamber.
Fish and Game Regional Supervisor Cyndi Wardlow Needs to be sent out with bear spray.
These positions are filled with masters degrees in BS environmental studies and forestry and not by woodsmen.
We did ftx in shared woods during hunting season. 🙄
@Gustave: We had concurrent training and hunting seasons as well. Range Control would release training areas that weren’t being used to the hunting office. That office would allow in hunters up to a predesignated number per released area. In general no hunters could be in a used TA, we would permit archery, shotgun or blackpowder hunts in adjacent TA and modern arms only in areas that had a TA between the open area and troops training. I got involved only in situations that were “edge” cases. From my experience I know Ft Bragg and Ft Lewis both worked in a similar manner.
My game biologists were almost all hunters and I had several game & fish wardens on my police force. We also had several cooperative agreements with the state G&F for additional wardens and hunts we managed vice the state.
I never hunted on base.
I looked at the regulations and the limitations on where you could go and said no thanks.
I have an El Salvador connection. Guy is trying to get a rock crusher and a fleet of haul trucks together. It would be a great investment as if you want a load of rock delivering the country your out about three months or more as supply and infrastructure is crummy.
I’m about $10,000,000 short of making it happen.
Delivered in the country you are
That was garbled.

That looks like a maintenance nightmare.
Everything tropical/sub tropical/costal/humid is a maintenance nightmare.
Tell me about it. Finally getting a handle on humidity between the new wood stove and minsplits. Still using the dehumidifier but not as bad as it used to be.
3Door speaks the truth on tropical areas. Every single thing is a maintenance nightmare (okay we don’t worry about snow blowers) including things you wouldn’t consider as issues.
Humidity is the devil.
IF I ever retire and move I’m going from semi arid to desert.
I would try that beer.
The first thing I thought when I saw that haircut was Moe Howard.

“Post-Orban, the EU poses an even greater threat to US sovereignty”
Or, you know, Hungarian sovereignty. Because the voters literally just gave theirs away to Brussels. Whether out of Orban-fatigue or that’s what they really want, that is what they are going to get. Hard.
I fully expect to see a European caliphate within my lifetime.

Could also have done the meal plan. They still post those up daily/weekly, right?
I had lunch on CV64 during sea fair 96 headed to the port of Seattle.
Steak.

Brought a tear to my eye.
Restricting hair cuts in government schools.
Yuck.
I was the ponytail kid in jr high on. Got lots of crap for it but I was sick of haircuts and styling it. Then like an idiot I played army and had to shave and get haircuts again. One of the worst things in the military. I bet retention would go up signifigantly if men were allowed to look like men again. Hegseth is dead wrong on beards and hair, being pretty is too much wasted effort and distracts from the mission of the military and ends up getting more fools who look good promoted over guys that do their job well.
Back in the day I wanted to look military and do a good job. I was able to fool some of the people enough of the time to make it work.
I was a shit soldier.
Largely because I was used to doing a job and doing it correctly and then going home.
Everything we did when I was in was to time and make work.
I completely disagree. The whole point is everyone is supposed to look the same. That is why schools do it too – so kids aren’t wasting time on fashion or trying to impress each other.
2¢
Korean schools have a short list of acceptable haircuts and the kids all wear uniforms to school. (Couple in 100% of kids being 100% Korean, and yeah, it could be hard as fuck to tell kids apart until you learned their personality.)
I get both sides of the argument. With the way US schools are? Fuck it. Do it military style. ‘You’re here to learn.’ I also get groups of kids will make sure ‘Strict Non-Social Time’ will be explicitly social, no matter what.
Smaller communities and schools would allow both sides to have their own way. Since that won’t ever happen, I’m fairly certain I’m allowed to bitch about both when taken to the extreme. The conformity of Korean schools bled into the students’ minds, and K-12 day care centers we have here have absolved parents of pretty much any and all responsibility.
They both suck, cuz raising kids is always gonna suck. That’s kinda the point, the difficulty. I happily observe, not having made such commitment. ‘Twas wise of me.
Parts of raising kids suck.
It’s also the coolest thing I’ve ever done with my time and money.
Wish I could have a couple more of them.
And we raise them. We don’t farm them off to some baby raper at a daycare or the government. They are underfoot all the time and constantly undermining our efforts to keep the house tidy and get anything done.
Totally worth it.
Ideally there are no issues with school dress codes because schools would be 99.99% privatized and parents could pay for the schools they want, or not.
“Raising kids sucks” here = ‘Raising kids is a lot of work.’
We’re on the same page. There’s unimaginable rewards from having kids. But it’s a fuckload of work. Big reason why I hate govt schools and parents shirking their biological, personal, and every other duty they have vis a vis their children onto others.
I hate I have to pay for other people’s kids to be poorly educated. I’m rather offended(!) my tax-spawn are illiterate.
Yup, the money should follow the kids. Then we wouldn’t even be having any of this discussion.
Help me, doctorbot
In a new study published this week in the journal JAMA Network Open, researchers asked 21 frontier large language models (LLMs) to “play doctor” when confronted with realistic symptoms that an actual patient could feasibly ask about.
The results painted a damning picture. The AIs’ failure rates exceeded 80 percent when provided with given ambiguous symptoms that could match more than one condition, and for more straightforward cases that included including physical exam findings and lab results, they still failed 40 percent of the time. The researchers also found that unlike human clinicians, the “LLMs collapse prematurely onto single answers,” resulting in “weak performance” across all models.
“Despite continued improvements, off-the-shelf large language models are not ready for unsupervised clinical-grade deployment,” said corresponding author and Massachusetts General Hospital associate chair of innovation and commercialization Marc Succi in a statement. “Differential diagnoses are central to clinical reasoning and underlie the ‘art of medicine’ that AI cannot currently replicate,” he added.
Headline claims “millions” of people are turning to AI instead of legitimate human doctors. I wonder why.
I also wonder how a sample of human doctors would perform on the same test.
Web MD replaced my Dr years ago.
The time they sent me to get tested for syphalis when I told them I clearly had west Nile was the last straw.
West Nile sucks balls by the way.
One thing’s for sure: the AI industry is in dire need of regulatory oversight.

I don’t know where it gets its word list from, but it accepted some 2-letter combos that I don’t think are real words.
What happens to that whizbang ecoboost when it gets zinged to a 14,000 rpm mechanical overrev?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s safety recall report says that some of the pickup trucks may experience an intermittent selection signal of the transmission range sensor to the powertrain control module, which may lead to a temporary, unintended downshift into second gear. This may cause an abrupt reduction in wheel speed for a short period of time, which in some situations could cause the rear tires to slide until the vehicle speed slows.
Somebody linked this a day or two ago, but didn’t Ford already have a recall for this a year or two ago? Maybe a different model?
Speaking of ecoboost, coming to a Superduty next….
Our F150 wouldn’t upshift when going down hill in cruise control. A 2014. You had to turn off the cruise, put it in neutral, put it back in gear and hope it cleared the glitch. Thing would rev to the moon if you didn’t turn off the cruise before going down a little hill.

This handsome fellow was coiled up under a bench at the assisted living facility down here in Williamsburg. I relocated him to a nice wooded spot nearby.
That is a nice looking fellow.
Only bit me three times, which is pretty good for handling a racer.
First one I’ve ever seen in real life, too.
Must not have been a medal finalist if you managed to catch him.

The swarm of left-wing posts below the image is a nice touch. 🙄
Thanks, Imgur.
Never read the comments.
It’s weird cuz I’ve never seen “EXPLORE POSTS” on anyone else’s image before.
Cool snake, I’ve only caught one before. They are bitey, but the coachwhip I caught was worse
Coachwhips are one of the few non-venomous snakes I’d think twice before handling.

JD Vance reached out to me. I was pretty excited but he just said “Enjoy getting doxxed homo!” and hung up and l’m pretty sure I heard Trump laughing in the background so that’s disheartening

I’m going to doubt.
Real conversations between actual bros sound like this.
Discussion above about hunting on military bases reminds me of the shrieking bambi-hugger chimp-outs which would accompany any attempt to thin the massive deer population on the Air Force Academy land.
Asking agian, playtesters, tear down experts, shit talkers…need feedback on a game myself and boys are making.
Sorry, gaming days are long behind me. Plus no Windows.

Super happy in contract right now with a cash buyer. They balked at us countering with the repair clause and we relented. They came back with one big one (we knew about) and such minor things we are moving forward.
Excellent news.
Bigly if true
Source confirms to me that Joe diGenova will be sworn in on Monday as Counsel to the Attorney General to lead the Russia collusion hoax invesitgation.
He will work out of the Fort Pierce, FLA courthouse; a grand jury has been empaneled there since January.
Somehow, I’m not holding my breath.
“Clue” was really well done. The play is directly based on the film, with Wadsworth and Mrs. Scarlet especially diving into Tim Curry /Madeline Kahn. Thankfully, it wasn’t made into a musical, which Dad (incorrectly) told us.
They did all three endings, and considering how hard it is to pull that off in real time, they did an admirable job.
Funny enough, Mr. Green is still ‘gay,’ but he revealed his concerns being discovered by his Republican Party employers. The cast didn’t play it up, but the audience was happy to chuckle at those typical gay-bashing Republicans.
I find it ‘fun’ and revealing that the Left is upset, or seems to not understand, that nobody really gives a shit anymore. (I doubt they think about how negative bias largely resides in minorities they depend upon.)
Clue is only for watching the maid come down the stairs and nothing else. Okay; not really. I love the board game and the movie is fun and just silly enough.
The movie’s fucking brilliant. In the original release each theater would only play one of the endings; they weren’t put together til later. (Still haven’t found out how that worked. Would they play a different ending each time, or each theater got different versions, or if cities and regions got one v another version elsewhere, etc. I’ve looked!)
Yvette in Clue is ravishing. Mrs. White’s explanation for killing her, “I just hated her… so….much!” and her description, was a Kahn ad lib and the cast couldn’t stop laughing. I’m glad it survived and made it to the play. Everyone else has a plot with a motive. (Well. She was (reportedly) banging Mr. White.)
“FLAMES! On the side of my face… heaving! .. breathing… *heaving* breath…*
The left is permanently stuck around 1955. Considering that most of their policies have actually set back “can’t we all just get along” by decades, they are not entirely wrong to think that way.
The Left always has to be the ‘downtrodden.’ When society fixes its own bias, well, we have to develop a *new* sense of being trod upon! ‘MICROaggressions! That’s the ticket! Shit so small ya don’t actually notice?! That shit! aHa! WE notice everything!!’
Tedious and childish. They really should find that last part especially insulting, the biting way I mean it. Alas.
