Sunday Morning Retarded Links

by | Apr 26, 2026 | Beer, Daily Links, Education | 129 comments

I had a whole story ready to go about a giant (6’7″, 380 lb) tard nicknamed Smokey that I was tasked with bouncing from the cafĆ©. Including the artwork, which I won’t waste. But I’m not in the mood to tell my tale, given the loss of a woman who was a friend IRL and with whom I had several lively correspondences. Every time we talked, it reinforced my opinion that she was exceptionally smart, as well as being conversationally sharp, witty, funny, and (in the best senses) uninhibited. I was unfortunately nowhere near a computer last night, so I’m offering my toast now, with a mimosa (make fun of me for that all you like, it’s a girlie drink but it’s delicious).

Well death is an inevitable outcome of birth, and birthday highlights of the day include the Mother of the Blues; the Father of the Impenetrable; true Evil Incarnate; John Waters’s favorite filmmaker; a delightful sci-fi writer; one of my favorite authors, and recommended if you’re feeling suicidal; the Father of Harbor Place; arguably the funniest female actress of the 20th century; and a woman who is characterized as dumb, conniving, and pure evil, consistent with Michelle Obama and Nancy Reagan.

Speaking of pure evil, here’s Links.

So, anything else interesting happen last night?

Free and fair elections, I’m sure.

This will work out well. I do like how they chose a location where there were already several private sector competitors.

Nostalgia blast here- this is where my buddies and I would gather to smoke weed when I was a teenager.

Burn it all down and take that fucking Bill Nye with you.

When you think Canada is dumb, they double down.

If he didn’t manage a mother-daughter three way, he is a failure as a human.

Look, I hate Florida, too, but these are truly retarded reasons.

Let’s see, three of them are running for higher office, one was pushed out by Team Blue gerrymandering. Clearly Team Red is racist. And a non-paywall version.

Jesus fucking christ, they just can’t help themselves.

Not a Link, but a perfect headline to get the conspiracy theorists going.

Sometimes the Old Guy just wants to groove on rollicking bluegrass.

I had the pleasure of meeting Hayeksplosives in Paulden, NV. Went to local hangout and had a good time. Such a shame.

Of the Glibs I have met in person, 40% have now passed (SP and Hayeksplosives). I’m thinking I don’t like the math.

    • Sensei

      She will be missed.

I oddly have had similar sad occurrences with my Japan interests. My very first language exchange partner died in her 40s leaving two children and a husband.

This was followed by meeting an American in Japan married to an Australian woman. Great character and a Vietnam vet. Had just retired. We kept in touch and three weeks after he returned to Australia he was killed in an auto accident.

Those two were 2/3rds of the {{{GLIBBROADS}}} that I’ve talked to off of the site. I hope Salted Earth is doing well.

Black Republicans? I can’t believe the NYT would hallucinate such a thing – since it goes against everything they believe.

  7. Common Tater

“CNN also reported that Hamas, among other terrorist parties, was excluded from the elections as participation required candidates running to recognize Israel, support a two-state solution, and accept the program of the Palestine Liberation Organization.”

Maybe we can only have candidates that support the Constitution.

  8. Gender Traitor

arguably the funniest female actress of the 20th century

Can’t disagree, as I’ve mentioned how fresh memories of her Saturday evening antics had me giggling in church through much of the latter ’70s.

    • Tres Cool

I can still watch “Went With The Wind” and laugh.

      • Gender Traitor

Exactly the one I was thinking of. Quite possibly the all-time classic (though Harvey/Tim sketches as a body of work give it a run for the money.)

    • Tonio

And not just a comic actress, either. She appeared in the last four episodes of “Better Call Saul” (S6:E10-13) in a well played dramatic role.

The first scene featuring her I was all “wait, is that…she’s still alive?”

      • Common Tater

I must have not recognized her.

      • Tonio

Marion, the woman in the mobility scooter.

  9. juris imprudent

Chris Truax is an appellate attorney who served as Southern California chair for John McCain’s primary campaign in 2008

So speaking of retards, and making claims about Trump and dementia (and surely with no record whatsoever of saying something like that about Biden).

    • Ted S.

Yeah; I don’t recall one politician saying McCain should resign when he was diagnosed with that terminal brain tumor and stayed behind in Arizona.

  10. R C Dean

If he didn’t manage a mother-daughter three way, he is a failure as a human.

If those pix are real, that is one smokeshow of a 45 year old.

  11. rhywun

I do like how they chose a location where there were already several private sector competitors.

It is literally impossible to choose otherwise in America’s largest, densest city – given that the “food desert” thing is a fantasy pushed by grifters.

  12. Common Tater

“Every Black Republican Is Leaving the House, Erasing Diversity Gains
All four Black House Republicans are retiring after this year, a reflection of the striking and persistent lack of diversity in the G.O.P. ranks of Congress.”

    Who cares?

    • rhywun

The racist writers and readers of the NY Times?

  13. rhywun

I would like to say that I love the username “Hayeksplosives” too. I suspect that it has been used by someone else somewhere else but there are no others as far as I am concerned.

Next Saturday we pick up the bees at the bee store and start a new season. Hives are already set up, awaiting the new tenants. Countdown to Honey Harvest begins, Sep 20th this year. Mark your calendars.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

      Huh…there’s a bee store?

      • (((Jarflax

The Ehh store is a Canadian thing, the C store is very popular in Japan, but the Bee store is a honey of a place.

      • Ted S.

I used to pass by this place on a regular basis.

      • Gdragon

I got a pretty good chuckle imagining a cartoon bee dressed up like Apu leaning on a Slurpee machine and staring at the clock. Who needs AI?

“The Democratic Socialists of America rail against the one percent, but close to a third of them are clearing six-figure incomes a year, according to a newly surfaced internal survey.

As many as 28% of DSA members made more than $100,000, and 56% have cushy office jobs in academia, tech, the public or non-profit sector, white-collar work or health care…

And despite its frenzied push for equity, black membership was at a measly 4% — well below the group’s 15% share of the American population.

One area where the DSA had representation that far exceeded that of the general population: 10% of DSA members identified as non-binary and a staggering 32% identified as LGBTQIA+.”

    • (((Jarflax

I suspect they exceed the general population in virtually every category of mental illness as well.

    • juris imprudent

As many as 28% of DSA members made more than $100,000

      Wonder what percentage are trustifarians?

      • (((Jarflax

Trustifarians, or employed by NGOs entirely funded by Government dollars. There are some very well paid jobs in the grievance sector.

Hell, even semi-legit fundraising isn’t going to pay it. There is only source of unlimited, unaccountable funding!

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

They picture themselves as the class of agenda setters and as such they’ll never be penalized by their fellow leftist nutbags for their affluence much less put against the wall. It happens time and time again and the outcome is as predictable as the day is long.

  18. Grummun

I wasn’t on at all last night, so only read PM links this morning. I never met her, don’t recall that I even interacted with her on the site, but I could see from her posts that she was sharp and personable, an exceptional lady. I am saddened by her passing.

  19. Muzzled Woodchipper

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I’ve known her via the zooms for a few years. We had many a late night conversations, including a long one that wasn’t more than a couple days before she passed. I will definitely miss her.

    • The Other Kevin

Same. I wasn’t fortunate enough to meet her IRL but the bits I saw here, she n zoom, and on X showed me she was an exceptional person. We need more like her.

I was at a wedding last night so I only texted and glanced over the comments, but I see she made a big impression on those who did meet her.

RIP Hayek, you are already missed.

      Just don’t ‘crash’ into me.

      • UnCivilServant

I’ve been in two collisions involving other vehicles and two involving stationary objects.

1st stationary, 1st day I had my first car 1dt time driving alone, I clipped a mailbox and had to replace my wing mirror. Mailbox remained standing.

1st other car – Silverado driver flies down parking lot at blockbuster while I’m backing out of my spot, meets the rear corner of my car, minor damage.

2nd other car, Buick invents a lane to go around a car waiting to turn left, while I am turning left in the other direction. He plants his bumper in my wheel well, totals my Focus

2nd stationary – Trying to slow for a turn in wintery conditions, found less traction than expected, turn went wide and I took out a street sign.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I too am 2 of both.

1st other: A car tries to cut out behind a moving truck and directly into my path. I t-boned him, but was his fault. Both cars totaled. No one hurt.

2nd other: a dumb mf bumped my rear in traffic. No damage. We all went our merry way with no police called.

1st solo: I tapped the brakes on very fresh snow and skid a good ways before being stopped by a stone barrier. I thought we were going over the bridge.

2nd solo: I recently backed into a wall in a dimly lit parking garage. Minor damage on driver side rear quarter panel.

  22. SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

Good morning all! And as I said in the dead thread and zoom meeting, it was nice to attach voices and faces to user names. I hope no mirrors got broken trying to reflect my ugly bearded mug.

I personally called Von Vogt the King of Deus Ex Machina. Time after time he put his protagonists in impossible situations then always gave them an out.

He was a prolific writer who would set alarm clocks to wake him up regularly during the night so he could jot down ideas from his dreams to use for stories. Effectiveness unknown.

His stitch-up novel Voyage of the Space Beagle (compiled and reimagined from several stand-alone short stories) is likely the germ that inspired Star Trek.

The plot of the first episode of the Space Beagle (originally entitled Dark Destroyer, extensively rewritten for the novel) was essentially lifted for the Sigourney Weaver vehicle Aliens. Van Vogt sued for copyright infringement and won.

    • Tonio

Thanks. The only work of his that I recall reading is “Weapon Shops of Isher.” Very libertarian.

Didn’t know about the “Alien” connection. Going to have to revisit his work.

“The NAACP took to social media on Friday to defend their leftist comrades at the SPLC. This despite the revelations from the DOJ that the SPLC allegedly funded the KKK in addition to many other extremist hate organizations under the guise of paying “informants.”

“Trump’s DOJ has been weaponized by dangerous forces. Every organization and individual engaged in social justice should be alarmed. What we are seeing in real time is an administration seeking to leverage its position to target individuals and organizations that do not agree with its political thought,” NAACP President Derrick Johnson said….

“Nonprofits, NGOs, unions, faith-based groups, etc., strengthen our democracy because they influence and often implement public policy and provide essential services in support of and sometimes in lieu of government action. The NAACP stands in solidarity with SPLC and all organizations facing retaliation for their civil rights work and their efforts to keep all communities safe,” An NAACP statement says.”

The NAACP needs a financial colonoscopy.

I’d wager they’d turn up all sorts of crimes and shenannigans.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Nothing says a ā€œstrong democracyā€ like a NGO funding the KKK to give the appearance we have a KKK problem!

This is why our donations are so important. We can never give up on the idea that far right white supremacy is the biggest problem we face as a country, even if we have to pay for it ourselves!

Been said here more than once, “insufficient supply to meet the demand.”

  25. Timeloose

“A North Carolina school superintendent of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district was grilled by state lawmakers in the legislature after being accused of breaking state law having to do with parents’ rights and the inclusion of sexually inappropriate material in school libraries. When he was asked about a book that contained men dressed in BDSM, he didn’t take any issue with it and said that children may see it “in their community.””

    https://thepostmillennial.com/north-carolina-superintendent-defends-childrens-pride-book-featuring-bdsm-clothing-because-a-child-may-see-in-their-community

    Well, they shouldn’t.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Even if that’s true, it sounds more like a situation where people in those communities need to be arrested, and not one in which we offer the kids a public education on how wonderful sexual diversity is.

      • UnCivilServant

Arrested and put on the offender registry. That is in no way appropriate behavior for public.

    • juris imprudent

may see it ā€œin their community.ā€

That argument might fly in San Francisco, but in Chapel Hill?

      • Gender Traitor

Sadly, children may see any form of violence or perversion in their community, so I guess anything goes in school libraries, using that standard. šŸ™„

      • Chafed

That argument is strongly supported by Scott Weiner. He’s likely to be SF’s next Congressman.

    • rhywun

Amazing that you need a law to tell you that that radical leftist junk is inappropriate in a school library.

  27. The Late P Brooks

I hope there are some entertaining conspiracy theories about the News Prom shooter.

    • The Other Kevin

Already I’m seeing ā€œit was fakeā€ so you’ll get your wish.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

ā€œIt was fake just like Butlerā€ is the most common form of crazy I’m seeing this morning.

      • Chafed

I’m seeing it too. I don’t understand what drives such an obvious disconnect from reality.

    • juris imprudent

  29. The Other Kevin

I always thought it was exaggerating, but I’m convinced we’re in the middle of some type of commie revolution. They’re not exactly having a convention or wearing uniforms, but there’s a lot of people on the same page.

    • rhywun

Well, they have pretty comprehensively captured the Democratic party so there IS a convention.

ā€œWe’re not talking about delays in scientific exploration, we’re talking about the end of it,ā€ Nye told reporters on Capitol Hill at the time, ABC News reported. ā€œWhile we’re checking out, our competitors are checking in.ā€

It’s just like when Nathan Bedford Forrest burned down that library at Alexandria.

  31. The Late P Brooks

    First world problems-

I need a new phone/company. Apparently Verizon now owns Tracfone, which I have had for at least fifteen years. Recently they have made it a gigantic pain in the ass. The app no longer works; a new download (if possible on my antique Samsung) may or not help. Blah blah blah. I hardly ever even talk to anybody on the stupid thing but you can’t live without one. I never use it for computer stuff. No matter what, if I switch I’ll have to get a different phone (Holy shit phones are expensive) because this one’s locked to Tracfone.

Maybe I should look into one of those old geezer phones. Or I could just suck it up and take the path of least resistance, my superpower.

    Woe is me.

    • Fourscore

Geezer phone for me. About $25 a month, phone was $50, I think. Consumer Cellular something or another.

Calls, simple enough that I figured it out, with the instructions. I had a $200 a month Verizon, I never used the camera or anything else it does. No one calls me, maybe 1 a week, started getting telemarketing (2) last week.

  32. The Late P Brooks

I want to see, “The guy is a hard core MAGA redneck dead ender who wanted to kill journalists because they are mean to his patron saint Donald Trump.”

  33. cyto

    On the Canada woods article:

If you have not seen the protests video about “this is the woods….. this is not”, you really should find the time. It is one of the best illustrations of the idiocy of government bureaucracy.
